lenten season we always and we continue to offer ourselves to god in service and knowing about ourselves especially of our weaknesses and it does include in this holy sacrifice of the mass all our personal intentions and all those intentions offered here by the pilgrims and devotees of senor santolino brothers and sisters let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries i confess to almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that i have released in my thoughts and in my words and what they have done and what they have failed to do through my fault through my fold through my most grippers full therefore i ask the blessed mary of our virgin all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters pray for me the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us everlasting life [Music] me [Music] prices [Music] lord have mercy [Music] let us spray grant almighty god through the yearly observances of holy lent that we may grow in understanding of the riches hidden in christ and by worthy conduct pursue their effects through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever r amen a reading from the book of deuteronomy moses spoke to the people saying the priest shall receive the basket from you and shall set it in front of the altar of the lord your god then you shall declare before the lord your god my father was a wandering aramian went down to egypt with a small household and lived there as an alien but there he became a nation great strong and numerous when the egyptians maltreated and oppressed us imposing hard labor upon us we cried to the lord the god of our fathers and he heard our cry and saw our affliction our toil and our oppression he brought us out of egypt with a strong hand and outstretched arm with terri terrifying power with signs and wonders and bringing us into this country it gave us this land flowing with milk and honey therefore i have now brought to you the first fruits of the products of the soil which you o lord have given me and having set them before the lord your god you shall bow down in his presence the word of the lord thanks be to god be with me lord when i am in trouble [Music] with me lord when i am in trouble you who dwell in the shelter of the most high who abide in the shadow of the almighty [Music] say to the lord my refuge and fortress my god in whom i trust no evil shall be for you nor shall affliction come near your [Music] he has given command about you that they guard you in all your ways upon their hands they shall bear you up lest you dash your foot against a stone you shall tread upon the ass path of viper you shall trample down the lion and the dragon because she clings to me i will deliver him i will set him on high because he acknowledges my name he shall call upon me and i will answer him i will be with him in this dress i will deliver him and glorify him [Music] when i am in trouble [Music] a reading from the letter of saint paul to the romans brothers and sisters what does scripture say the word is near you in your mouth and in your heart that is the word of faith that we preach for if you confess with your mouth that jesus is lord and believe in your heart that god raised him from the dead you will be saved for one believes with a heart and so is justified and one confesses with a mouth and so is saved for the scripture says no one who believes in him will be put to shame for there is no distinction between jew and greek the same lord is lord of all enriching all who call upon him for everyone who calls on the name of the lord will be saved the word of the lord r thanks be to god [Music] we are here for your world [Music] [Music] we all are here for yours [Music] a reading from the holy gospel according to luke glory to you filled with the holy spirit jesus returned from the jordan and was led by the spirit into the desert for 40 days to be tempted by the devil he ate nothing during those days and when they were over he was hungry the devil said to him if you are the son of god command this stone to become bread jesus answered him it is written one does not live on bread alone then he took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a single instant the devil said to him i shall give to you all this power and glory for it has been handed over to me and i may give it to whomever i wish all this will be yours if you worship me jesus said to him in replying it is written you shall worship the lord your god and him alone shall you serve then he led him to jerusalem made him stand on the parapet of the temple and said to him if you are the son of god throw yourself down from here for it is written he will command his angels concerning you to guard you and with their hands they will support you lest you dash your foot against a stone jesus said to him in reply it also says you shall not put the lord your god to the test when the devil had finished every temptation he departed from him for a time brothers and sisters the gospel of the lord good day and good morning my dear brothers and sisters and greetings also to our listeners over the radio from bombo radio and also to our online parishioners who are watching with us in this live streaming of our mass if i may ask my dear brothers and sisters when we woke up this morning or how was your day when we woke up this morning for sure you already had a plan to to attend the mass you woke up early to prepare the things that needed to be done and along that kind of the preparation with your brothers and sisters have you asked yourselves what were you more concerned of were you more concerned of what outfit are you going to wear and because you have thought of what kind of dress that i would that you would wear you have changed so many clothes no or rather my brothers and sisters you are more concerned of that you were looking forward of what you would learn from the mass today especially if our readings especially of the homily of the frees or were you more concerned where would you go after attending the mass have you thought about these things with your brothers and sisters and if it is yes and if you have only thought of it because i've mentioned it then there are things and it is true that sometimes we are not aware of the things that we are doing that we are more focused on the things that we want or the things that we like to do what is then the lesson of our readings today especially in this first sunday of lent our gospel today my dear brothers and sisters from the gospel of luke is leading us about knowing ourselves and what is the importance of knowing ourselves because when we are aware of who we are as a person when we know where are our strengths and where our weaknesses then we would know where we should grow we would know how to strengthen and how to face our own weaknesses and when it comes to the strengths of ourselves of course we want to to share where we are good at but how about on the things that we are weak of and i think in instances that we are so weak it is in times of temptations when we have our own weaknesses temptations would would really come but before that my brothers and sisters it's good to share to you a beautiful video campaign of the department of justice it is a election advocacy rather my brothers and sisters it's a video that it has three settings the first setting with your brothers and sisters is that there's this street vendor selling fishbowl tempura you know and um and there's this guy who wanted to to buy a fish ball and he asked how much is the fish ball and the vendor said that it's two pieces for one peso and at the back at the mine of the one the buyer he thought of himself that i should take 24 pieces and just only pay 10 pesos so that's what he did and in the second set setting with your brothers and sisters at at the workplace there was this one of the members of their co-workers who was hospitalized and they were he was that person was asking for money and so his co-employees were gathering in a meeting and and they thought that they should contribute for a specific amount that they could help that they could assist to their co-employee and so when each of them gave their own contribution the one who initiated the the donation drive took 1 000 pesos and she said at the back of her head no one knows that i am taking this amount and then the third the third setting of that video my brothers and sisters is about a mayor who has received two proposals of a project from his secretary and the first proposal was about the it is a good proposal that could help a lot of people but this is another proposal that was provided that was prepared by his compare so the mayor thought yeah i would rather choose the project of my compari because i would receive a lot of commission mr brothers and sisters what's the beauty of this message of this video is that we are being taught no matter how small the offense is no matter how small the corruption is it will always and remain corruption and what is then the relevance of this of this video by their brothers and sisters over gospel there was a twist at the end of the video they realized and they were aware the three characters in that video were aware of what they were doing and the twist was they corrected their action the one who bought the fishbowl paid the exact amount the one who took one thousand pesos returned one thousand pesos and the mayor then chose the better project that could help the common good of his citizens so you you know my dear brothers and sisters it is very crucial it is very important that we are aware of what we are doing we are aware of the decisions that we make my dear brothers and sisters as i said temptations are strong when we are not aware of our desires temptations are strong when when we are isolated or we when we are alone in our gospel my dear brothers and sisters jesus was tempted and we might ask why was jesus tempted he was god he was so powerful but why was he tempted and you know what is more interesting in our gospel it was the holy spirit that led jesus to the desert so does this make sense it was the holy spirit who is leading jesus to the desert and face those temptations by the devil you know my dear brothers and sisters the lesson here is that jesus this suffering that jesus endured in the desert it was a suffering with a purpose it was a suffering with a cause jesus in our gospel today my dear brothers and sisters wants us to realize that god also knows who we are he knows our weaknesses and it has given him the right and the reason that no one else knows better than us and that is god and when you say to yourself when you're facing troubles when you say to yourself that no one knows what i am going through don't say that my dear brothers and sisters because jesus our god have experienced our human weaknesses our human weaknesses jesus knew how it feels to lost a best friend when he lost lazarus jesus knows how it feels to be betrayed by his friend jodas you know let us realize that god knows us and that when we are in trouble just like in our responsorial psalm when we are in trouble know that you are not alone when we face the temptations when we are in trouble because jesus knows how we feel that we are not alone and i hope my dear brothers and sisters every time that we face our own temptations the reality no temptations are real in life and let us not deny it yes temptation is not a sin but when we give into the temptation then it is there we commit sin the challenge first my dear brothers and sisters here is in every temptation we should be aware of the things that we do we should be aware of our surroundings we should be aware of where the things are leading us because when we fall it would be painful when we fail god it would be painful but we are reminded just like in our first reading moses there recalled how they were saved by god from their slavery in egypt but this with the pain that they were suffering from being a slave they were thankful they were thankful that god saved them and so in this season of lent by their brothers and sisters let us continue to reflect who we are as a person am i a perfectionist person am i a lazy person are my actions hurting other people or do i just care about myself it is knowing oneself that we would know where to go and how we should live our life amen please arise as we profess our faith i believe in one god the father almighty maker of heaven heard of all things visible and invisible i believe in one lord jesus christ the only begotten son of god born of the father before all ages god from god light from light true god from true god begotten not made consubstantial with the father through him all things were made for us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven and by the holy spirit was incarnate of the virgin mary and became man for our sake he was crucified under conscious father he suffered death and was buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the and receive the scriptures hand of the father he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end i believe in the holy spirit the lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets i believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church i confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and i look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come amen heavenly father renew us in your covenant of mercy that leads us to everlasting life with humble hearts we pray lord graciously hear us lord graciously hear us may the church leaders find strength in the christ in the desert whenever they are tempted to live a life against the gospel we pray lord graciously hear us may the civil leaders be empowered by your love o lord so that they may use material and spiritual gifts for common good we pray lord graciously hear us may filipino migrants believing witnesses of jesus salvific love so that the reign of god may spread throughout the world through them we pray lord graciously hear us as we go through this pandemic may we courageously witness to jesus christ through the faith-inspired works of peace justice love and compassion we pray lord graciously hear us may those who are preparing for baptism and reception into the catholic church be guided by the spirit of wisdom and peace we pray lord graciously hear us may those who called upon your name in faith o father during their earthly journey hear the voice of christ welcoming them into the joy of heaven we pray lord graciously hear us let us pray for the urgent concerns of our community and our personal intentions we pray lord hear us father to the spirit you led jesus into the desert to prepare him for his mission of mercy lead us by the same spirit during this lenten journey that we may be spiritually prepared to celebrate the resurrection we ask this through christ our lord amen say lord receive all my liberties my give me your love and your grace that's enough for me your love and your grace [Music] pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty for the father of glory beast [Music] holy church give us the right disposition so lord we pray to make these offerings for with them we celebrate the beginning of this venerable and sacred time through christ our lord amen the lord be with you and with your spirit lift up your hearts let us give thanks to the lord our god it is right in jesus name it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god through christ our lord by abstaining 40 long days from earthly food he consecrated through his fast the pattern of our lenten observance and by overturning all the snares of the ancient serpent taught us to cast out the leaven of malice so that celebrating worthily the paschal mystery we might pass over at last to the eternal paschal feast and so with the company of angels and saints as we sing the hymn of your praise without end we acclaim [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] is [Music] the lord [Music] you are indeed holy lord the father of holiness may holy therefore his gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ascended once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for if this is the chalice of my blood the blood of a new and eternal covenant which we poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith [Music] you have sent us [Music] [Applause] [Music] set us free therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord a bread of life for the chalice of salvation giving thanks that have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be guided into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope who say our bishop and all that clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of their resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god saint joseph her most chaste spouse with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we be married to be co-ears to eternal life and we praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father in each of holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever [Music] [Music] [Music] at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say oh [Music] is [Music] and [Music] deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days but the help of your mercy we will be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ [Music] [Music] lord jesus christ the center of apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but in the fate of your church and gracefully grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign for ever and ever the peace of the lord be with you always let us offer each other the sign of peace um away the sins of the world [Music] me
