hey everyone good morning hope you're having an amazing day at mark wiens i'm in the southern thailand province of patalong and today we are gonna explore talenoy which means little sea uh so this province it's not along the coast but it has a very unique geographical landscape and ecosystem and it's a wetlands area it's well preserved there's canal systems it's known for its amazing lotus blossoms and also for its wildlife lots of birds so this morning we are gonna take a tour we're gonna get on a boat we're gonna take a tour of talenoy it's really an off the beaten path destination in thailand and then probably after this we're actually staying at a home stay which is on the lake uh so i'll give you a tour of our home stay as well but for now we're about to catch a boat [Music] it's about seven a.m it's a beautiful morning and we came here to the front to the pier taleno you can hire a boat right here very excited this is gonna be so cool and you can already just see how peaceful how beautiful how calm it is in the morning maybe two whoa micah are you ready oh this is a beautiful boat and the sun is just starting we're perfect time it's uh about it's a little over 7am and to my understanding you have to come here in the morning from about six to nine a.m or so i believe the lotus flowers are at full bloom so hopefully we see a lot of lotus and some wildlife this is gorgeous already and we just passed a bunch a huge patch of pakashet which is water mimosa oh that's one of my favorite vegetables oh and i just love how you just go straight through this vegetation oh that's amazing and into the lotus immediately it just changes the bright pink lotus unbelievable it's just uh it switched from like that pad of grass to just a sea of pink lotus flowers and pads [Applause] it's also so incredibly peaceful because we're the i think we're the only ones here you can't even see another boat on the water [Music] [Music] once we did get out here to the sea of lotus we did see a few more votes there are a few more votes this morning but really it's so peaceful it's so quiet and now there's just so many birds [Music] i think what's also important to note is that while this area is protected and uh i think it's a park but it is protected by the community it's also home to the community and so people do go fishing here you will pass fishermen i'm hoping that we're going to see some buffaloes in the water soon but there are villages around surrounding the lake as well it's not only an incredible preservation of nature and wetlands but it's also home to a community yeah it's kind of a beautiful section of inlet we're getting close to the bridge but the vegetation kind of changes then this is another haven for birds [Music] [Music] that bridge there it separates talenoi which is where we are in from the bigger lake which is a huge body of water huge and we just passed under thailand that's thailand's longest bridge we just came here just to kind of take a look captain is doing a little boat maintenance fixing that propeller again and then i think from here we'll turn back around and head back towards the lotus the sea of blooming lotus flowers again spectacular and it's really uh a lesser visited destination in thailand uh because i mean the whole the whole province of patalong because it's not on the ocean more inland it's just not as visited of a destination as some of the other places but that just makes it so well preserved so beautiful the ducks oh doc that's what i can't show and he picked us one of the lotus uh pods with the seeds which you can eat and i'm not gonna show it close up because i posted another video where some people have a phobia of the of that kind of like lots of little holes so i'm not gonna show that but i'm just gonna show you the seed once i take it out and you take out the seeds this is fresh from the talenoi exactly what i needed right now a local fresh neck and then you peel the skin like the size of a big peanut and then i think you're supposed to actually open it and there's a couple seeds in the center that you don't typically eat kind of tastes like a very refreshing raw peanut oh yeah it's good oh that's like milky way that's as fresh as possible almost like raw almond [Music] so [Music] and we are back to the dock back to the port we did ended up doing two full hours that was fantastic we saw so many birds and as we were coming back uh we saw an eagle but i had the wrong lens on uh but so many birds i think the highlight for me was just gliding across the lotus just blossoming blooming pink lotus a sea of lotus and then just gliding across the water across the algae across the plant life that was spectacular from here maybe either today or maybe tomorrow i'm gonna give you a tour of our homestay our home stay is along the lake and so i'll give you a quick tour of where we're staying here at taleno which is actually on the the main part of the lake though [Music] and later this afternoon we have now checked into our homestay the homestay is called homestead lungs and he is uh just a vibrant character with so much personality uncle that runs the guest house he's been cooking and he's he's so enthusiastic what an amazing local home so let's walk inside and i'll give you a quick tour but before i give you a tour of our room let's just quickly walk into the main area the main hangout living room dining room and kitchen all together because that's probably the coolest place and there's it's just full of antiques as [Music] well okay and welcome into the main house this is kind of the kitchen this is the living room this is the hangout room you see just antiques it's wood there's like wires going up it's such talk about a house with character and then welcome to the kitchen i love how they have all of these i need bolan do i these are traditional pots for cooking curry made from i think it's in thai it's called sankasi i think made from zinc which is all the traditional pots of spices going on this is where uncle does his cooking and he's quite a quite a cook and then there's just some storage around here and now come over to the side which is more of the living room hangout office area and then over here this is one of the coolest little corners of the house to sit in uh because it's within the room but you've got a direct just straight window out to the field come check this out so you've got you've got kind of i think this is kind of palmyra dry palm um that's the the entire roof up there and i'm just within this window window table here you do feel like you're in a tree house and we are on a stilted house uh traditional thai style but so cool okay let's continue i haven't been down here he said we can go i can go walk around at leisure wow wow yes 700 years old from the lake is in the sea you can see the roof tiles are they look like clay ceramic tiles and he said once they so did the floor out of those roof tiles from here but we are on an elevated and elevated uh stilted house as well [Applause] [Music] yes the old classic thai chinese spoons [Music] this is another old section of the house okay okay you're your room very nice oh it's so cool open air but it feels so cool open room open air completely open air you have okay okay natural light natural air just coming in but it's it's so cool in here i think because of the clay and the tiles and there's the shade get photo quick okay cup oh and you can just keep oh it just keeps connecting ah it's all connected i didn't know that come here now uncle is taking us on a full tour um there's just like it's like a whole network of rooms oh wow wow wow wow wow that is some of the old tiles and plates oh i need hong kong okay no no no no completely open to the elements you can take a bucket shower here outside i love it chinese chinese bowls and porcelain yeah oh wait he's to get a coconut micah for you change of plans from our room tour we got a drink of coconut fresh coconut and you don't see the you don't see the orange coconuts that much in thailand uh but i remember seeing there's lots of them in sri lanka the king coconut and south india wow [Music] oh man it's so refreshing it just never [Music] there's just no greater beverage on earth than a fresh coconut picked right off the tree seconds ago [Applause] [Music] and so uncle put us in this room which is all the way at the end uh it's nice that we have our own kind of little private room down here there's a table in the front [Music] and welcome to our roomie again uncle is such an incredible character with a huge heart and he just like that was totally random uh i thought he was going to be sleeping in his room and that's why i wanted to quickly do the tour of that front room but he was staying right there and he just like so much energy mike are you taking a nap already michael's already in here taking a nap resting micah are you having fun yes no full jump bed test but i think it's pretty nice beds are actually very nice and springy uh we're gonna sleep very well tonight and again use the mosquito nets because there are a lot of mosquitoes there's definitely gonna be a lot of insects yes that is great huh yeah okay and then final thing to show you is our bathroom which is uh within the bedroom got to bring my own light because there's no light other it's kind of a it's kind of dark in here there's just the natural light and a couple light bulbs shower is over in the corner and i think you actually just have to fill up the ceramic bowl container with water and then that water feeds to the shower but then maybe the coolest part of the bathroom is the toilet which is i mean it's just a normal toilet but i think it's been fixed so many times i think uncle is a real fix-it man so probably broke and then he attached a stick which holds up the toilet float and then you have to turn on the faucet so you have to turn on this faucet here to fill the water tank and then you pull up on the stick when you want to flush the toilet uncle is a he's a fix-it man okay and that completes the homestay tour of our room i think uncle said he's gonna make us a quick simple dinner tonight so i will include that next [Music] and now sitting down for dinner we have a little bit of gang some which is the sour curry with the lotus stems there's also kaitom kamin which is uh chicken boiled with turmeric yeah they call it uh yum yum kai blah a salad made with the fish eggs and then there's a little bit of nam pig papi which is shrimp paste chili dip and some a little bit of jengle [Music] caviar all the fish eggs are amazing such a like almost yolky texture to them and then full of herbs full of lemongrass and chili and this one is the gang song the sour curry turmeric and these are lotus stems in here [Music] and then finally this is the the jengkol this is going to go great with the the shrimp paste okay he said krill paste dip oh oh that jengkol is amazing mmm look me on my way crab so arrogant soap [Music] tom kamin with i think a winter melon in here just you taste the turmeric in there and just like a great soup and they also specifically made this for micah not spicy and the the winter melon just kind of melts in your mouth because it's so soft and i like the num prick too it's really good it goes great with rice [Music] ah that was a great dinner simple local the fish eggs were really awesome and something i liked is that their uncle and auntie they're just hanging out uh eating the same food and hanging out we're just hanging out in their house now just kind of just leisurely strolling enjoying the last bit of this evening and then lastly for this homestay they charge 1 500 baht per night which is about 50 dollars per night that's per night per adult uh and that's i mean that would be very expensive if it was just for the room but the reason is that he includes food your meals maybe two or three meals uh during your stay here and also the boat rides uh different boat rides and even tomorrow we're going to be taking a long boat ride especially in the morning a whole tour where we uh see the fishing we go fishing uh we're gonna see the sunrise i think that's definitely fair and i want to say big thank you to you for watching this video please remember to give it a thumbs up if you enjoyed it and remember to click subscribe i'm going to be publishing more videos travel guides and travel tips thanks again for watching goodbye from patalun and i will see you on the next video
