hey everyone hope you're having an amazing day it's mark wiens i am in chiang rai northern thailand and for a few nights i have the honor to stay at landia lodge which is an eco-friendly hill tribe run lodge nestled high in the mountains overlooking the mekong river valley so in this video i am gonna walk you around uh the lodge i'm gonna show you specifically our eco-friendly uh house that we're staying in which is spectacularly built and the view is impressive and then tonight dinner and breakfast and dancing is included uh in our package that we're staying here and then we'll wake up and have breakfast but i'm gonna share this entire experience and what you can expect when you stay at lanjia lodge in chiang rai [Music] let's start the tour from just outside of the lodge and really quickly to mention again this is a community based community run lodge that supports two main villages in this mountaintop village there's two main ethnic minority groups hill tribes number one is the hmong community which i think is mostly concentrated right down the hill and then the other ethnic group is the lahu people which i think most of them are a little ways up the hill and so a lot of the proceeds uh from when you stay here from when you eat here from when you come here goes directly back into the community so that's the first fantastic reason to stay here and this is the entrance gate here langiolage bamboo gate actually i filmed a quick clip when we got here this morning uh the staff meet you at the gate and then bring your luggage and push carts down the down the trail to your uh house to your cottage yes [Laughter] i was just reading on the langia lodge website butlanjia actually means peaceful in hmong and you will immediately sense peace when you come here the moment you you arrive there's four cottages and each cottage is a self-contained unit with four rooms in it so those are all spread out down the hill and then over on this side is the kitchen and also the check-in counter kind of the office and that's all that's all it includes is just those five five main buildings so maybe we'll just quickly go take a look at the the kitchen first and then i'll walk you down the hill uh and i'll show you give you a complete tour of our cottage gonna just quickly walk over to the kitchen and office section this is the office and the reception right here in this window and then enter into the door this is the kitchen and we've already done some cooking here some local food which was spectacular they do serve local food uh dishes from the mountainside from the hilltribe villages and communities but then they also have some western appliances some ovens they also do serve some western food as well i think especially for breakfast and baking but they can yeah they can also take requests about what you want to eat when you're here as well very nice kitchen and very spacious [Music] and i asked kunsan who is the manager i asked him what style is the are the cottages built in because we are in a hmong and a lahu village and he told me that they're a contemporary new design but the styles are very much taken from the local community from both the hmong and the lahu and then on top of that you have to just admire the amazing construction on the slope on the side of the mountain [Music] the first thing to do is take off your shoes right at the entrance and now officially welcome to our room atlanta lodge and our entire hut entire house cottage and again there are four different rooms within this it's one single cottage there's two rooms here at the back two at the front and then this communal section here in the front and then also the patio dec veranda community section without a doubt this deck this veranda this balcony whatever you want to call it is the highlight the view the breeze that passes through here the relaxation the peace the langea which is the peace will just overwhelm you and it's it's a breathtaking view if you look the valley there you can see in the distance the mekong river so we've got the river there and then in the distance behind across the river those mountains are in lao and then the design and construction which is so part of such a part of nature and just incorporates the natural elements it's spectacular truly is a it's beautiful [Music] on this deck there are tables to sit at low tables and cushions to recline on and sofas surrounding the entire deck for you to relax on oh yeah now i don't want to get up [Music] and now to give you a quick tour of our room we got room number two something that i love that you can't see through the video is the aroma the smell of the bamboo which has this natural almost grass kind of smell to it uh the fresh green bamboo i love the construction i love the weave of bamboo all the way from the floor to the walls to the roof is even covered the ceiling is covered in a bamboo weave a different bamboo weave we do have a window overlooking the deck overlooking the village and the mountain and then on this side there's a bamboo bench there's some water there's some towels uh there's a little bamboo stool as well oh wow that bed is incredibly soft oh my god that's like a balloon the bed that was actually my first time to jump down on the bed it's like a giant balloon it's so soft it's so fluffy micah is definitely enjoying the bounciness of the mattress as well uh and then they were kind enough to add a third mattress here for micah so this could be a family room with a if you have a child and come here as well okay and it's a great thing that the mattress and the beds are very stable okay the bathroom the bathroom again everything is covered in the bamboo matte latticework weave and everything is natural the wood the bamboo the light fixtures the even the hangers and even the toilet paper dispenser and then the shower is in here surrounded by these brown almost pink colored tiles and one more thing to mention is that there's no ac in this room and i am here in the winter so the weather is cool and you wouldn't want an ac if they had an ac and i do also believe that in the hot season in the warmer season that it does cool off at night especially and because of the airflow design it remains cool the way they've made it so just just to let you know there's no ac [Music] and that completes the tour of our cottage and our room that we're staying in at langia lodge from here we have dinner at 6 p.m and they're going to perform some of the local mong and lahu dances right here on the patio and then also this communal deck is where you eat your meals too so we'll have dinner we'll have the dancing they're gonna make a fire tonight and then tomorrow morning breakfast is also included so i'll show you everything [Music] it's 6 p.m it's almost fully dark and as the sun went all the way down uh it really cools off and they're just about to serve dinner three different dishes there's chicken fried with garlic there's masaman curry there's patrick gang which is a curry stir-fry with long beans and some vegetables and then oh and also a soup i'll start with that masaman curry potatoes chicken coconut milk yeah oh there's onions in there too it's mild but just really warm hearty thick rich comforting yeah the potato is awesome just melts in your mouth okay the puppet gang there's kaffir lime leaves in here there's chicken there's long beans there's onions oh yeah that's really good thick rich the crunch of the onions and the long beans the fragrance of the kaffir lime leaves i think it's stuffed a stuffed melon is it bitter melon not bitter melon it's just a melon right a cucumber yeah that's good that simple cooked cucumber is actually delicious chicken stir-fried with garlic [Music] and i think most of the dishes oh i love the garlic in there the fried garlic in there i think most of the dishes are simple they're not overly spicy i think the whole family everyone can enjoy this meal and you do taste the freshness of the ingredients and the hardiness the warmness of them what you need [Music] i'd like to introduce our local guy tomorrow here okay thank you from here oh okay thank you oh nice okay nice to meet you nice to meet you thank you very much and mom tried to dance as the traditional dance so distance the meaning of then is to step the grass in the plantation field not to grow ah okay small pipe is also made by wood and bamboo but it's bigger okay more will dance [Music] first [Music] [Applause] watch out [Music] [Music] [Music] one more thing before we end the day they set up the mosquito net for you so we're gonna sleep well the fresh air and good night i will see you in the morning for breakfast it is cold this morning like i can almost i actually need a really big jacket slept like a baby it was really cold but the the blankets are very warm so that was uh yeah i slept this again just just lives up to its name peaceful langia great coffee too yeah local organic i need it really nice coffee [Applause] breakfast is served and last night you could choose from three different breakfast sets and order in the morning there was an egg set there was a fried rice thai set and then the healthy set so i got that healthy set comes with fruit the bread looks really good toasted bread there's some granola there's some yogurt there's a freshly squeezed juice and i'm not sure what type of juice this is watermelon it's very freshly baked very crispy good yogurt and then finally the toast it almost looks like a has a little bit of a purple almost could be a purple sticky rice or purple oh that tastes like rice berry could it be rice berry that's the peanut butter [Music] i love peanut butter just finishing up with breakfast and now the sun is starting to come out it's starting to warm up but that is gonna conclude this tour of landia lodge and a couple things to mention number one is that we paid about five thousand baht per night staying here um and that includes the double room and then for three people that price also includes dinner breakfast the cultural dance and also typically a a complimentary tour of the village of the community but i didn't show that in this video because we're going to be doing some more extensive community tours especially with cooking in other videos uh which you can see that i'm gonna post but that being said the price is uh inclusive of all of that and so when you think about that entire package for me i think it really is worth it and not to mention the price is not all this is not just a lodge you're not just paying for the accommodation for the food but it is also a percentage of everything that you spend here goes back to the community uh to improving the conditions the living conditions the education this really is a community supporting lodge and so it's a bigger picture it's a bigger uh goal yeah i would highly recommend lanjia lodge uh come check it out when you are in chiang rai for an amazing more than a just a stay but an experience and so that's going to be it for this video i want to say a big thank you for watching and also remember to check out the other videos that we're making here especially focused on food and thanks again for watching i will see you on the next video
