so much ice cream there's so much ice cream there's something that all of us learned this year and that is that we need to do what we can to remain on a budget whenever possible so i'm going to walk into walmart and i'm going to show you how to do a clean keto diet for less than 100 per month yes we can absolutely go in there we can't just pick dirty keto items we're going to pick good clean keto items that can allow you to do keto the right way so you get good results and we're going to keep it on an extreme budget let's see what we can find we're going to have some fun with this nice thing is wherever you live you can find a walmart so everything that i'm going to talk about here is going to be something that you could easily find and if you can find it at walmart you can usually find it at other stores so the nice thing is everything that we cover is probably something you could get at another store so you could at least get close to the kind of budget that we're working with here clean keto is all about keeping good healthy fatty acid profiles not having just garbage in there all the time however we are on a budget so we're not going to be able to go for the super upper echelon stuff we might get is a whole paycheck i mean whole foods but we can at least have some fun and get some pretty darn near perfect things let's roll walmarts are always wacky to film in because they don't like it when you film there that's why there's not too many good walmart grocery haul videos out there because people get popped before they ever get a chance to even check out but i'm gonna be pretty discreet doing this vlog style so maybe people think i'm just like facetiming with my wife while i'm grocery shopping or something who knows we're gonna start with produce and meat so i'm going to bounce around a little bit the reason that i say produce and meat is because i want most of your budget i shouldn't say most but i want the first part of your budget to be towards produce and meat because if all else fails at least this way you can have the healthy essentials that you need right at least you're filling most of your budget up with the good whole stuff versus uh going down the aisles first and loading up on the keto treats stuff like that which a can be expensive but b also just aren't what you want to completely fill up on [Music] when it comes to bang for the buck spinach is really going to get you pretty far now a lot of our veggies we can get frozen and i'll explain when we get to the frozen section why we really want to lean on that but spinach is one of those that you can really just utilize a lot and although i prefer to have an organic spinach simply because it's not on the clean 15 which is a group of foods that are okay to get non-organic i do think if you're on a strict budget having a little bit of spinach as long as you're cooking it because that's the goal don't eat raw spinach because it chelates okay it's high in oxalates so it can chelate a lot of the good foods that you are getting on keto to begin with so you should be getting this mainly to be used in eggs or cooking for some reason so there's three percent of our budget for the month right here but at least we have a nice big one and that will last you a good month as long as you roll it up and seal it nice and tight so we're going to pop on over really quick to the meat and get a couple of things there get that out of the way with our budget and then we're going to come back here i'm walking through the dairy right now there's a few things in the dairy cheese section that i'm gonna get i'm also gonna grab some bacon i'm gonna show you how to get the right stuff and we probably won't even use a whole lot of our budget we're aiming for a hundred dollars at this hall to last us a month so you could potentially divide this up if you need to do it in smaller shopping trips or anything like that let's hit up some eggs really quick just because these are definitely going to be a big part of our diet so let's see what we've got now there's some tomfoolery that comes along i didn't say that because my name is thomas but there's some kind of trickery that comes along with buying eggs okay and a lot of times it's not really the cage free you necessarily want to get it's not necessarily the pasture raised you usually want organic and free range let me see what they've got here free range now this is what i'm used to i'm used to seeing like this you know free range blue and brown eggs heritage bread amber yolks okay you're usually paying like seven dollars walmart in here mind you this is california prices so everything is inflated so if you get things if i can do this for a hundred dollars here then we are in really good good shape so we've got organic yeah we've got 4.68 cents for a dozen which is expensive let's see if there's a slightly cheaper option i would be aiming to have like maybe one whole egg and two additional yolks or maybe two whole eggs per day so if we were going if that's what you were doing right i would recommend intermittent fasting because it's going to save you some money okay that way you're essentially skipping breakfast so if you were to intermittent fast maybe two or three days per week let's just say that leaves you with let's say four days per week that you'd have breakfast and have eggs so you're left with 16 eggs so we really need 16 eggs to get through the month well if we're looking at 4.68 cents for 12 then we're not far off and then maybe we could find let's see here these eggs are not what you want to be leaning on if you're doing clean keto these are so high in omega-6s they can counteract a lot of the benefit but here's something that's a little bit better let's see these egglin's best cage-free organic okay so here's something to keep in mind the free range means that the chickens are actually this tells us right here raised on over eight acres they're probably just open and they're organic so this really is such a good deal the next best one would be these i'm just going to get one of these guys then what i'll do is i'll get these large organic eggs that are 350 and i'll get two egg cartons but one is the cage-free pasta or pasture raised organic and the other is just straight up organic why am i doing this i'm diversifying if i can get one batch that's really good and one batch that's semi-good then at least i have 24 eggs half of which are i would consider a seven on a scale of one to ten and the other one's like a nine on a scale of one to ten it ends up balancing out and i ended up knocking off a dollar fifty which doesn't sound like much but this is a lot of my protein source okay so now i've spent already ten percent of my budget but i've got spinach and eggs you're thinking what the heck else can this guy even get like how are you gonna stay under 100 bucks you'll see so we already covered like one meal for at least four or five days out of the week so that's great we're already making great progress and now we've got the beef which i think we can get some good deals here let's see we got wow that is a very good price on bison by the way nine dollars a pound for bison is great but you know that we can't fly with that that's going to put us way over budget so what about if we go with regular ground beef there are some rules i want you to follow if you're going to go with ground beef that is not grass-fed grass finished like this stuff this one's 578 a pound which is great and we might get one of those but if you're not going to be able to go for that you need to pay attention to a couple things most of the toxins most of the bad things that are going to result from a meat being grain fed and not grass-fed are going to be stored in the fat so we want to try to get lean meat we want to try to get lean ground beef so maybe we're aiming for like a 90 or a 93 or if they even have it in 97 or 99 which i have seen before but anyhow let's see what we have here so here's what's funny though you have a 93 lean not grass-fed beef and it's 5.42 for a pound okay and that's not even grass-fed grass finished so then we kind of go on down the line and we see okay well here's a 93-7 that's in a tube that gets us down to 443 per pound but then i mean we have the organic grass fed that's not quite as lean but at least it's organic grass-fed or sorry not organic but yeah this one is holy cow okay so we have grass-fed ground beef no added hormones no antibiotics that already makes a huge difference and then we have organic so this one's only 4.96 this one is literally about the same price as the one that is not grass-fed granted it's not as lean but at least it's grass-fed so if you're one person we have 16 ounces here you would probably be consuming roughly i would say like six to six ounces or so so you're probably going to get close to three servings out of each of these if you were to actually space it out right and actually weigh your meals now i'm talking about doing this right so you truly lose weight and truly get the results that you want okay so if that was the case we have three meals here let's just call it two and a half so let's say we had ground beef i don't know 20 days out of the month just whether it's through lunch whether it's with dinner anything like that what is that math worked out too so that would be if this gets us three meals so three six nine 12. so if we got four of them we would get ourselves 12 meals so that's pretty awesome so right there i can spend 20 on beef but let's just decide maybe we don't want to have that much beef and let's just get three meals and three meals this so we have six meals that we can get with beef but that's not quite enough let's do nine meals with beef and now we're probably at let's see we got fifteen dollars we've got twenty dollars we've got twenty three fifty and we've got twenty six dollars and fifty cents we're a quarter of the way through our budget we have a good amount of meat now let's see what other stuff we can get i'm not a big fan of the chicken they have at walmart they do have some organic i believe actually i'm not seeing any yeah they do but it's 565 and it's for chicken thigh filets which i really recommend that we go chicken breast when it comes to chicken and the reason simply is because the fatty acid profile of chicken poultry in general is not that great if i was going to have a fattier cut of meat it would be coming from beef it wouldn't be coming from chicken so i know chicken thigh is a big piece of the keto diet in a lot of people's eyes i don't think so i think it's okay now and then but especially especially if it has the skin on it we don't really want to do it it's an easier way to get calories in but come on we're trying to cut some calories while doing the keto diet so we yield more body fat as fuel we don't want to be adding fuel in from fats all the time like people say fat bombs this fat bombs that no what we're really after is tapping into our bodies stored fat tissues organic chicken here it's 743 per pound so i think we might be better off going down the frozen chicken aisle let's see what we have i told you we'd be bouncing around a little bit but frozen meat is a really good place to start people think that frozen meat's bad no a lot of times you get a better bargain with frozen meat because it's what they're able to freeze immediately so you can get decently quality quality stuff decent quality stuff excuse me but you also just find better bargains because there's less turnover okay there's less churn there's less of this overall wastage that's happening at the store okay they call it shrink right things that get stolen things that go bad so we have less shrink which means the prices get passed on to us as the consumer now as long as you know how to defrost things right you can also cook directly from frozen there's a it's taboo to cook from frozen that's not the case like cooking from frozen is great and it works really well you have to start out slow and then you slowly increase the heat but let's see what we have i don't see much in the way of the ground beef that i would really want per say turkey burgers that's not a bad price okay this is what we want to look for no antibiotics ever vegetarian fed doesn't really mean anything let me see what these differences are oh one season one's not let's knock it the season and save some money this is so great okay so we have let's see what's in this stuff salt and rosemary extract i know it's not organic turkey i know it's not amazing but we just got ourselves how many how many of these six burgers six meals for five dollars and ninety eight cents you can absolutely we can do this we can totally get it under a hundred bucks i'm going to try my best to get it really close to there so convenience right not only do we just save some money but how easy it is to pop one of those things into the microwave or pop it on the skillet or pop it in the broiler whatever it's super easy and it's already good to go and you throw a little salt and black pepper on it you're good to go now i'm doubtful if we're gonna find the organic chicken in the frozen section so that's a little bit of a bummer but i think we can still get ourselves a really good deal if we're just looking to have chicken now and then i'm all about diversifying the kinds of meats that you have so we already have some good grass-fed beef we already have some ground turkey we already have some eggs we are and we're getting the clean stuff we're not getting the total garbage you just have to look a little bit more um so i think i'll get like a smaller thing of frozen chicken okay i'm not gonna get organic but i'm gonna get diced now you pay a little bit more okay so i'm paying what 350 a pound but for diced the reason that i get this is it is prep central it makes prep so easy so if i can get diced chicken i can throw this in the skillet with some stir fry veggies which we'll probably get to in just a second and be off to the races so yes it's a little bit more to pay for it diced but it is just worth it from a prep standpoint so i'm going to get this now there's some things that i don't like and again we have to just sacrifice a couple things what do i see here where is say the ingredients okay it does have a little solution of water and sea salt and a little bit of chicken broth so that's really the bummer that we get out of it is we're not getting the same value that we would think we'd be getting um oh well it's all good i'm big on the right kinds of fish being able to get good clean omega-3s on a keto diet is critical what's the first thing people do when they start a keto diet they eat tons and tons of bacon tons and tons of cheese tons of vegetable oils and what that does is that drives up what is called the omega-6 ratio in your body which counteracts everything that we're really after with the keto diets what we're after is trying to modulate inflammation omega-6 is skyrocket inflammation so what i'm trying to say is we need to do whatever we can to lower the omega-6 ratio that means choosing fish that is high in omega-3s if you have more omega-3s in the body it actually takes away some of the enzyme that would process omega-6s and what that means is you're left with a net positive balance of omega-3s generally speaking if you work hard at it so i aim for the right kinds of fish i really try to get some good quality salmon in now we can do a lot with canned salmon and we can do a lot with frozen salmon so i'm gonna probably choose one or the other but i might grab like one can of canned salmon in a little bit just to show you what the price point is like but let's take a look at different kind of salmon options they have for 97 cents per ounce we can get wild alaskan sockeye salmon okay now wild doesn't necessarily mean it's wild caught but i think it is in this case and then if we go over to pink salmon it still says it's wild caught and we get down to wow 24 cents per ounce that's really good price and it says wild caught on that i'm going to open this freezer up and i'm going to take a look a little bit deceiving there this product comes from a fishery that has been independently certified so it's coming from a fishery i don't know if that's let's see what's in this label here pink salmon product of china wild caught in russia processed in china hmm a little bit sketchy let me see what this other one says okay compare that to sockeye salmon product of the united states wildcat if it's products united states and it's sake it's getting caught up in probably bristol bay up in alaska now that is pretty expensive though that's less than a pound and it's 11.64 cents and you definitely want to avoid tilapia i'm just going to keep it brief on that i've talked about that in a lot of videos cod is another good one to go with it's usually not farm raised cod is usually wild caught but i really like to get more bang for the buck and get the salmon if we can so i think we might end up going with the canned salmon in this case just because the frozen options aren't amazing what about shrimp yes shrimp is one of the better proteins that you get on keto let's see what we have i would just opt for like the medium shrimp so what's really cool is check out the protein content of this stuff i know we do have shrimp some water sea salt some salt yes that's not a good deal though we have so much zinc in this it's tremendous 12 grams of protein so four servings this is probably more like six bucks so it's probably gonna be more like three servings if we actually got the right amount of protein that we really are trying to get out of it 12 grams of protein is not that much but it's a pretty good price to only pay 5 and 30 cents for this now let me see 12 ounces well they're all 12 ounce bags so this does still seem to be a pretty good bargain so basically we have three meals out of this so just to add up let's see we've got basically six six-ish meals here probably more like seven seven good meals out of these eggs okay then we have three meals out of these shrimp so that gives us 10 meals then we have another six meals out of this that's 16 meals then we have another let's see there's how many servings in this 18 grams is perfect so we could go with probably eight servings in this so it's 24 servings then we have 27 servings 30 servings 33 servings we have 33 servings of protein already if we assume that maybe a few days per month again a couple days a week at least we are doing some kind of intermittent fasting something like that we are probably going to be able to omit at least a couple days a week of meals in terms of breakfasts so what does that mean well that means our total amount of meals that we would need would be something like this we're going to say that we have 90 meals in a given month we've already got a good 30 something of them covered we're still going to go get some canned fish and some canned meat and things like that but let's try to get a little bit more to cover us through the month and that's where i do think even a little bit more chicken might come in handy because i think then for the buck we get a little bit more protein with our chicken here so 6.96 and we can get eight more meals so i'm gonna go with that okay we probably only have to get another 20 30 20 meals or so which we can easily get with some tuna stuff like that nice thing is by doing this we're not getting the garbage down the other sections first we're getting all the good stuff here let's see anything else in the frozen department we haven't even touched dairy right not all of our meals need to be protein from meat we can absolutely get some cottage cheese we can get some yogurt things like that i hope that i'm staying on budget see i'm doing this all like kind of guessing as i go and let's talk veggies for a second you thought that we were gonna have to spend a bunch of money on veggies you seen these prices here one dollar things like that awesome prices so veggies when you get them frozen they're flash frozen which means that they're preserving a lot of the nutrients now if you envision picking up some veggies from the regular part of your produce store or your grocery store the produce department what's going to happen is those veggies have been picked then they sit on a truck for however long and then they sit in a staging area then they go on the shelf so they oxidize very quick so you usually get better value as far as nutrient profile is concerned by going with the actual frozen ones and i'm telling you it's one of the best secrets like people don't realize what a good deal you get it is awesome and people just have this issue with buying frozen because they feel like it's cheap or it's just weird it's not i do it all the time here we have 11 cents per ounce for this big bag which is good quality because that's the florets it's not just the um it's not just the stocks like some of them are and then if we look at this we have 8.4 cents per ounce compared to see this is why you have to look you think that a lot of times you're going to get a better bargain by buying it in a big bag we had 11 cents per ounce versus a smaller bag at 8.4 cents per ounce much cheaper this way and then we have a big bag here which is going to be 8.2 cents per ounce but let me just give you a little tip in terms of buying frozen veggies once you open that bag it's frostbite not frostbite what am i saying um freezer burn central so if you get smaller bags you're usually looking at two or three meals with them but you're able to preserve it a little bit better it's not going to get freezer burnt it's not going to lose some of the nutrients through that process however a lot of the health benefit that you get you can still get from the broccoli cuts i'm a big fan of getting my cruciferous vegetables in so if this gives me four servings four one cup servings this is four meals right here so i'm gonna get at least 12 meals with broccoli so i get three of these whopping whopping three dollars for that asparagus i definitely want to get some too so i'm gonna get two asparagus cause they're a little bit more expensive at 277. let's get that out there we go put these in my eggs do something different with it just to get those veggies in this is zucchini blend oh there's not much in there dollar 48 but it will spice things up and it will get something a little different i'm going to get it it's worth it doing this all the clean way then we get into the fancier frozen area where this stuff is probably not going to be on budget for us remember we're trying to keep it super cheap but this steaming bag stuff is pretty convenient i will say now it's not the best because yeah microwaves everyone has their little vices with them brussels sprouts sorry distracted 1.97 that's a pretty good price and these are actually cooking the bag ones so we could probably get four servings probably get like three or four meals out of this really um let me get two of those that's not a bad price and there's something i want to show you sometimes you see these things like this this 350 for this right it's gonna be so deceiving rice cauliflower and quinoa that is not gonna be keto friendly first of all there's quinoa in it but a lot of times things that are marketed as cauliflower are not just straight up cauliflower they have a bunch of other things in them too and let's say you want to have that fish that we just got or that diced chicken on top of some rice cauliflower well check this out 16.5 cents dollar 95 for some rice cauliflower and that is a really good price okay and then here we have well that's kind of funny because that's a lot more expensive for the value size just because you're not getting good value brands so let's get let's get two of these actually let's get three of them some rice cauliflowers okay i think we're pretty good in the frozen section now you really should be probably eliminating some of these tasty things maybe we can give ourselves one treat let's get ourselves one treat here it's these delicious keto chocolate chip waffles and keto regular waffles i'm going to get these as my one treat because i've got six waffles in here if i want to have a keto treat i want to feel like i'm living a little bit this is absolutely keto friendly granted it's a little high in the oleic acid sunflower oil which i'm not the biggest fan of but we gotta allow ourselves to have a little bit of a treat still kind of nice to see that they have these keto options here and then let's see here what's this this is interesting i see this fat bombs here what is this okay snickerdoodle what is in this we have coconut oil palm oil sugar-free dark chocolate with palm oil chocolate liquor nice stevia sweetener milk fat soy lecithin you know what besides the soy lecithin this is actually pretty darn clean i mean it's expensive it's not gonna make the cut today but a really cool keto walmart find and then this cauliflower food stuff again it's not gonna fit oh there's another flavor this chocolate that's a really cool find check out cauliflower foods this is really cool cauliflower foods uh used to start with just like pizza crusts now they have these keto items look at this okay granted this is not 100 keto you probably would want to be a little bit easy with it let's try the that's the regular lasagna let's try this one which is more of a chicken enchilada bake that's still fairly high so i wouldn't really call it keto but it is definitely low carb 12 grams of net carbs versus 11 grams of net carbs just nice to see that kind of stuff that's not cheap though okay i mean that's five percent of your budget right there so we don't really want to be getting this now but if you wanted yourself a little keto treat you could do it now what grocery trip isn't complete without getting a little bit of ice cream and if we go five dollars over budget we know that we messed up with the ice cream right let's see we got to get a little bit of something good so much ice cream there's so much ice cream where's the keto ice creams i'm looking for the halo top the enlightened things like that do they have yes they have the keto versions what's wild is if you see brands like halo top with their keto ice creams versus say their rebel creamery or other ones you may be a little bit deceiving because you think oh my gosh well there's a lot of calories in these keto ice creams well if you compare them to like the halo tops like the rebel creamy creamery seems really really calorically dense but it's also super dense ice cream whereas like the halo top is super injected with air and very fluffy so if you were to melt it down gram for gram it's about the same as far as caloric density goes now halo top has these cool keto variations which are just fun jelly donut flavor but i'm gonna jump right to the punch if you're gonna splurge and you're gonna have a 3.88 cents this halo top white chocolate macadamia is so good it is not clean keto it is dirty keto but you have to live life i am such a big fan of taking just a little bit of a mental break i eat super clean mediterranean keto all the time and i'm telling you that having a little break now and then is crucial having that instead of let's take a look at this for example these carb smart bars are what you want to go for i mean we spent the exact same amount of price essentially on some ice cream granted you might get a few more bars out of this carb wise you could justify the same thing as far as keto but look at this milk coconut oil maltitol which is a sugar alcohol which not only can kick you out of keto it can cause all kinds of issues it still has sugar in it then we have polydextrose then we have soybean oil dutch cocoa which is fine whey glycerin calcium carbonate soluble corn fiber natural flavor it is a bunch of just garbage in there you don't want that clean keto is all ooh you know what i think i might have found something even better let's do this instead so instead of getting the tub of ice oh no they're not the keto ones dang it i don't think so work because yeah i don't see them so halo top and enlightened came out with these bars right they did come out with them on the keto version but unfortunately walmart doesn't have the keto bars so we're stuck with just the regular ice cream that would have been the same price we would have gotten six bars because we have to somehow try to make this last for i would say try to make it last four servings there's three servings in there if you can do it so that you have like one little bit of ice cream once a week on the weekend uh it might work out great or take one of those waffles and put some of this halo top ice cream on it we have a total keto friendly meal that's going to just completely feel like a cheese yogurt let's go grab some cottage cheese let's grab some bacon stuff like that let's grab some dairy i'm a big fan of getting unsweetened almond milk there's a lot of rules you could follow but it's walmart we don't have a lot of options now i'm going to start saving as much as i can so we're going to go original with the unsweetened because the uns oops i don't see that unsweetened original here we go because the unsweetened vanilla is going to have some natural flavorings in there that i don't want now we're talking a month here so we're probably gonna need two and that way you can have protein shakes you can have your stuff like that i'm not gonna factor protein powder into our budget here because i feel like that's something that lasts you a lot longer than a month we can go take a look at what they have just to get an idea though and i'm gonna tell you right now ditch the creamers and just go for some heavy cream go for heavy cream instead of half and half and here's why okay most of the milk sugars and everything like that is going to be in the half and half where the heavy cream is just heavy cream you don't have the milk sugars you have really clean stuff for the most part and you can get by with a lot better feeling a lot better so with that said we want to ditch some of these creamers okay and we want to go with the heavy cream which we can have as a multi-faceted approach we can do a lot of different things with it and let's see what we have they do have horizon organic so you notice how there's some things i focus on getting organic and some things i don't heavy cream is one of the things that i am going to get organic so i'm gonna get this heavy cream it's four dollars and eighteen cents and i'm gonna try to make this last me a month because there's 32 servings in here and i only need a tablespoon of my coffee but i don't have coffee every morning so maybe i could uh you know mix it up with something else now if i really wanted to one of the things that i could have done is maybe put out the ice cream and got another heavy cream because i do kind of feel like one of the nice treats that you could do as a matter of fact i'm gonna do that i'm gonna put the ice cream back i'm gonna get two things of heavy cream [Music] okay now i'm back i'm gonna grab another heavy cream because what i feel i could do for dessert that is much better than having the halo top is i could whip up some of this heavy cream and i can have a small amount of frozen berries so i could have a little bit of blueberries like a quarter cup to a half a cup and it's not going to kick me out of keto mixed with some heavy whipping cream that's whipped up with maybe a little bit of stevia or something like that granted some of the items i'm going to get are going to last me longer than a month so you have to grant me a little bit of amnesty there with the overall budget and what it's going to end up being for the course of a month now we're in the sour cream department which i want to be able to really determine if i want sour cream i don't know if i really truly need it i don't see any organic sour cream but i do see at least some daisy at a good price and at least with sour cream it's cultured so you have a probiotic effect so it's kind of like yogurt where it's not as important to get organic because at least the micro biome benefit helps you out there and two dollars for sour cream which is going to provide me with just a great way to flavor up a lot of what i've got is terrific now they don't have the cottage cheese they would normally get i usually like to get good culture cottage cheese and cottage cheese is one of those things where if you're going to get it it really should be the right kind it should be good cottage cheese good quality stuff and unfortunately walmart doesn't have a whole lot of good quality cottage cheese just because it's a case in protein with yogurt you're not eating the case in protein as much with cottage cheese you're eating pretty much straight up case in protein and casein protein is the part of the dairy that you have to be the most careful of it is the most that can that cause the damage to you it can cause an inflammatory response so we want to be careful with that so i'm going to lean more towards yogurt than cottage cheese in this case but if i was at another store that had a good quality organic cottage cheese i would have gone for that just some really easy whipped and maybe whipped you get more bang for the buck and i always try to go for the third less fat cottage cheese if i can because why you don't need the extra fats like you might as well go with one that's not uh do they have there we go we have a walmart brand new chatel just gonna get one of those because i'm gonna mainly use it for cooking but you could make yourself a cheesecake or something like that so take half of this mix it up with some of that heavy cream and a little bit of stevia splenda or a little bit of stevia or excuse not splenda but truvia or something like that and you have yourself a nice little dessert treat on that note if this is gonna last me for a month let's get two but remember get the third less fat you don't have to load up on all the fats common misconception that you have to have more fats on keto no protein is the key fats are just there to give you a little bit of fuel you want your body to run on your stored fat tissues not on the exogenous fats coming in all these plant-based butters which are pure hydrogenated stuff look at this all this is a blend of palm fruit palm kernel canola it's just not what we want okay good clean butter let's see if they have just some like kerrygold or something to there we go perfect here's ooh i don't want to spend that though that's wow this is a cool find you have to look closely okay so i i could have dropped 3.96 on the kerrygold brand name okay kerrygold grass fed grass fish good for butter coffee and then i was about to say oh this is a great find vital farms at 350. i love this brand it tastes good but then i saw this what is this danish creamer's european style butter for this price and take a look at this a term like grass fed can be broadly applied having grass is just part of a cow's diet can make a statement accurate but misleading our milk comes from pasture-raised cows on family farms they spend their days outside so they put their money where their mouth is and it's cheaper i just found my butter for the month you should not be cooking with butter you should be cooking with some kind of avocado oil or maybe a macadamia nut oil or if it's at low temperature perhaps in olive oil anyhow i'm gonna ramble on here let's run back and grab some yogurts really quick but hey a lot of the stuff that i'm talking about that's not the perishables you can get through thrive market so i want you to check them out i put a link down below so that way if you don't have time to go to the grocery store or maybe you're concerned about going to the grocery store right now with the crazy times thrive market has supported me so much as far as being my go-to for getting my groceries delivered to my doorstep so highly highly highly recommend that you check them out i've put a link down below so they're an online membership-based grocery store and what that means is you go online you sort by the diet that you want to eat so in this case i would sort by keto diet and it gives me hundreds of items that are keto friendly and then i can get them added to my cart and they get delivered to my doorstep a lot of times cheaper than what i would spend at most grocery stores especially the upper end grocery stores so if you're on a budget it might not be a bad idea to check out thrive market to at least get some of the pantry essentials that you would normally have to spend a ton of money on at whole foods so please do check them out special link down below in the description thank you thrive market for all the support brief here otherwise i'll spin forever talking about cheese the short answer is the more the cheese is aged the better so things like pecorino romano things like parmesan things like that all are going to be very very good uh even if they're not the highest quality they're better than other cheeses of equal quality in terms of aging and stuff like that where if i wanted to get some higher quality cheeses i might find them here granted it blows a lot of my budget so what the heck do i do do i spend the money on the expensive cheese or do i do something else if i was going to spend the money on the more expensive cheeses i would probably get like the goat cheese here i would do something like that where it's 250 for goat cheese which is by far the best highest quality ketogenic cheese and i say that because goat cheese is unique in that it actually has about 30 mcts in it to begin with and that means that it can help convert into ketones much easier so tremendous tremendous fine there for two dollars and 46 cents but i'm afraid i'm spending a little too much on other stuff so i'm gonna find some other more mainstream cheeses and show you what you have to go what i'm gonna try to find here is maybe some some a gouda gouda is going to have a higher value of vitamin k2 in it which is going to make my life a little bit easier as far as absorbing calcium and utilizing vitamin d but i'm not seeming to find it this is where it gets hard if i'm on a budget i want to get the fancy cheeses but i really can't i mean it's just difficult and i'm having a hard time finding the gouda i'm having a hard time finding what i would really need this is where things get tough this is where really things start to kick in with whatever you're doing as far as your budget shopping goes you really have to get creative like this at costco you can get a block for like eight dollars that's so much bigger so sometimes you end up just getting such better prices at costco because walmart just doesn't cater itself to the fancy cheese demographic so i think their prices end up being marked up a little bit so here's what we're gonna do instead we're gonna get some finely shredded parmesan because it's two dollars and 22 cents and this will probably last me close to a month i can put in my eggs i can put it on my chicken and i feel like i'm at least getting the highest quality cheese i can get without getting organic without getting super perfect okay at least this is aged at least i know it has the microbial cultures to it at least it has what i'm looking for and at least just the aging process breaks down some of the casein protein so it's a little bit easier on my gut if i'm gonna have a cheese it's gonna be this one let it be known that there are better cheese options this is just what i'm having to get on my budget now we get to the hot dogs do they have applegate farms or anything like that let me look it doesn't look like they have the good hot dogs the ones that i really want to be focusing on the rule with bacon you've probably seen this in some of my videos before if you're a veteran of my channel is that you want to get ones that have a thick ribbon of fat on them because that means that it's more of the saturated fat versus the marbled potential poly and monounsaturated fats so a good example is here we have thick ribbons of fat that would be easy to trim off not that we're going to trim them off but that means it's saturated fat which is much more stable for cooking versus something like this where it's more a little bit more marbled in there now the reason that matters so much is when you're going to cook bacon at relatively high temperature the saturated fat can handle it the polyunsaturated fats and the monounsaturated fats that are in the pork which is very high in monounsaturated fat doesn't really handle a high cooking temperature well it denatures and goes through what's called lipid peroxidation that can denature in your body and be relatively unhealthy so what do we do which one do we choose we have to remember that we're on a budget we also have to factor in all the other stuff that goes into this oscar meyer i know is not the cleanest so and don't worry by the way about the uh nitrites and nitrates it's not as big of a deal as people make it seem what is this great value for 347 that's look at that thick ribbon of fat very little marbling and we have salt sugar that's a little bit of a bummer but it's just a little bit in the sodium erythemate which i don't like what's this one here original uncured bacon here we go thick cut uncured even better price 44.9 cents per ounce 41.5 cents per ounce we found it farmer john has a decent one let's see what's in it pork water sea salt a little bit of cane sugar celery just cherry powder bingo no preservatives nothing weird and we have our bacon okay not a ton of bacon and it is five bucks but it's not that much of a difference and remember these are california prices everything's inflated here so this is probably more like 350 somewhere else i know some of you want to have bacon every day but you're not gonna have bacon every day on this budget okay you can flip unless you want to get rid of some other stuff and just have lots of bacon point is is we're trying to make it as reasonable as we can i feel like i'm probably encroaching on my budget here pretty quick so let's see here i wanted to get some yogurt because i feel like from the gut biome effect it's so good for me and i wasn't able to get my cottage cheese i was able to get a little bit of my daisy sour cream but i really want to help my gut i really want to get some good stuff as far as what's going to support my gut microbiome while i'm going through this ketogenic change right if i'm adding uh removing carbs and adding more fats my gut biom's gonna have to adjust to that i want to be able to provide it with a little bit of homeostasis as far as the cultures are concerned so yogurt should be in my diet at least a couple times per week and when i look at this the fire is pretty expensive now i do love that too good has this two grams of sugar version which you can get good flavored yogurt with sweetened with stevia so it tastes like a dessert so it's six bucks not what i want to spend so let's go ahead and let's see what about chobani here there we go six grams of carbs cultured non-fat milk is the only ingredient and it's 4.68 so this serves as a protein meal for me big question is how many servings are in it we've got five servings so i could have it a little over one time per week i would really ideally like to get two of those um i don't know if it's gonna be in my budget i'm gonna get two though because i feel like it's just so important and i'm really you know what i'm not i'm gonna stick it with one a week on a tight budget and make it work next time i can swap something else out if you really wanted to have more yogurt like twice a week like for dessert or something like that i would recommend getting two now we have to go get some of the things i talk about my other videos we've got to go grab a little bit of olive oil or avocado oil we've got to grab some of these good healthy fats and what about some snacks we really shouldn't be going down the snack aisle but i want to show you some of the stuff we could get if we were on a super budget and still wanted to have some treats what about some pork rinds where's some pork rinds really decent prices for these i mean 2.66 for a party size bag and then you just have to look out for this ingredient you should be getting ones that do not have monosodium glutamate or torulius generally to release is not that bad it's not as bad as monosodium glutamate but with max you're better off to just get the original because look at the ingredients here all we have is fried pork skins and that's it salt no other ingredients just pork skins and salt i'm not going to worry about them i don't feel like i need them right now i've got plenty of other stuff and i'm gonna save the two bucks but that is definitely a good bargain fine that you could add in your 100 budget i completely thought that that red pop-up was a person standing behind me so i was like dodging i'm like oh sorry sorry sorry and then i'm like oh you're a box you're probably not mad that i'm here okay the nut section let's see what we can find wow all right clean keto for 100 with nuts in the equation is probably not even really a thing especially if we're going to get good healthy macadamia nuts which are going to be 5.42 for this which is a good deal but considering there's only four servings it's just not worth it so what bargain nut should we get considering what we're getting already i don't think we even need nuts like we have the good fatty acid profile that we would need we don't really need it i usually recommend going for macadamia nuts or going for something that doesn't have like a skin like an almond because a lot of times you end up with just a poor fatty acid profile and also phytic acid which can culture or it's not culture but chelate minerals in the gut so there's lots of people around so i'm talking quiet what i would do is i would probably get a big bag of these and have them last for a long time just try not to eat a bunch of them get the ones that are raw and that are not roasted in oil i'll show you what you have to look out for at least okay look at this these are almonds roasted in vegetable oil okay along with corn malted dextrin you just don't want that you want dry roasted so see if we can find dry roasted well that's just generally what you want to look for okay so avoid these if you're doing clean keto and just go for the whole natural ones because all we have in here is almonds if you were doing it perfectly you would want organic they spray the bottom of the tree when they are harvesting these or when they're growing them and then when they harvest them the nuts fall to the ground and they roll around with all the pesticides and everything like that here's some dry roasted ones check this out for dry roasted and lightly salted almonds dry roasted there's no oils we could do this now they're not raw which isn't the end of the world but you would really want to limit yourself to probably like one ounce per day but we have 25 servings per container so we have just about a month's worth of our almonds here do not have more than an ounce a day that's 170 calories you don't need to be having handfuls of nuts there's two more things i really want to get here and then we can really check out and we'll be good to go and i think that we'll be fairly comfortable with what we have could i have gotten more fun stuff yeah absolutely but i just don't want there to be any excuse you can do clean keto still have a couple treats still have some fun stuff on an absolute budget let's keep rolling i want to find some canned meat i want to find some good sweetener and i want to find a good oil is not keto people say it all the time they ask about it it's not keto at all it's pure fructose one of the first things that would kick you out of keto would be this so i would not recommend having it then we have things like swerve oh this is a great thing i like this usually i have to get this online so monk fruit in the raw however this one is not that good of a value because this is one that you use more for baking and it's malted dextrin and monk fruit extract what i would really like to see is like a liquid monk fruit but i'm not sure if they have it here almost every stevia or monk fruit that you're going to get in a packet is going to be coupled with malted extra i'll show you what i mean now it's not the end of the world just remember that it's not also ideal so here we have organic stevia and this one like for example oh this one's not as bad as this one's erythritol and stevia but i want straight up stevia so what's this 2.36 cents we have still erythritol i want straight-up stevia i don't want erythritol i want clean stuff that i could have so that i could have it in my coffee in a fasted state erythritol would technically break my fast dextrose and stevia leaf extract now it doesn't have the erythritol in it which is what i really was concerned with see this is a true zero calorie sweetener with zero carbs versus the erythritol gives that two grams of carbs even though technically it's a sugar alcohol so be very very careful with that so for 4.28 cents i have my stevia and i need it because if i'm going to be sweetening up my yogurt or if i'm going to be using my heavy whipping cream and actually making a sweet treat then i really would need it so i'm going to get it but it might put me over budget i'm going to get it i could factor in it maybe i would get rid of the almonds because i think this is more important for what i'm doing healthy oils let's see what we've got here they've got so many good selections here you've got dug fat which is going to be way too expensive so we're not going to use it but we have organic coconut oil unrefined which is what we would want for four dollars and 12 cents for organic okay now i'm not as worried about organic coconut oil why is that well because generally it's fairly clean to begin with so i don't worry about it too much i worry more about the refining process because the refining changes the fatty acids a little bit okay it actually can change the free fatty acid content in the oil itself so i'm not as worried about it now in this case like we have refined coconut oil look at this it says naturally refined not really sure what that means best oil for cooking blah blah blah but 20.8 cents per ounce versus this being 29 cents per ounce and it's actually organic and unrefined that's a really good price okay but then what about this 21.6 cents per ounce for 100 luanna organic coconut oil for 21.6 cents per ounce this would last me much much longer and i feel like at least it's organic so 29.5 cents you know it's quite a bit cheaper it's almost a third less then another fat that you would recommend that you use is ghee so we could get ghee instead of coconut oil but it is more expensive i vacillate back and forth so what i do is i would say one month use coconut oil one month switch to ghee one month coconut oil one month cook with it do different things with it and have a little bit of fun with it that way you're switching it up and you're getting different fatty acid profiles so in this case i think this is going to be the winner actually excuse me this is going to be the winner and we can go with that not going to worry about it right now i don't think it's super necessary i just wanted to throw it in there i'm nervous i think i might be a little bit over 100 bucks but we'll live i think you know if i have to spend five extra bucks then i feel okay with it um because a lot of the stuff will bleed over into the next month this maranatha almond butter look at the ingredients here not all of them are like this but like they add sugars to this one all right so this one is not the one with sugars that's the no sugar added so you have to look for that compared to this they have three grams added sugar that adds up really quick so what do we want in the way of nut butters the selection isn't amazing here they do have some of the fun stuff but come on 10 of your budget and one thing of almond butter just don't think it's realistic so the question is do we get almond butter do we maybe put back one of the um you know what i'm gonna do i'm gonna i'm gonna have black coffee a couple days per week i'm gonna put back one of these of my heavy creams and that way some days i can have my heavy cream in my coffee and some days i can have my dessert treat this way i can at least get some almond butter and feel like i'm satiating myself because i feel like if i have some almond butter i have a tablespoon of it and i don't feel like eating for a couple hours it gets me through the diet a lot easier so i'm going to do that so in that case we go with this creamy almond butter no sugar salt added it's separated like it should be it's 41.5 cents per ounce which tells me that it's a pretty darn good price because we look at that compared to 58.2 cents per ounce that's not bad at all could we find it cheaper at another store honestly we probably could but it looks pretty decent for where we are now so what you have to do is you have to kind of rotate what you get and what i mean by that is like this month i'm getting almond butter and i probably won't eat all of that almond butter i mean if you're like me on a good day you you can control yourself and on a bad day i might eat that whole thing of almond butter sorry i'm just putting this other heavy cream back here's the tuna over here so we're gonna grab some of that but the next month i might get something different like some more mayonnaise or something right so i'm rotating so one month i get the almond butter one month i get the mayonnaise because i know they're going to last a couple months because you don't want to get it all at once and when you're first starting out there's sort of this loading phase where you're going to spend a little bit more because you're having to stock up so what i usually say is budget for like 150 to 200 your first month and then 100 bucks a month maintenance thereafter great way to save some money you don't want to eat a bunch of it but if you're on a strict budget for a shorter amount of time it's all good the nice thing is even though rachel ray says that the albacore is good stuff the albacore is much higher mercury content so we want the chunk light tuna so for example this we have two dollars and fifty cents for a four pack of chunk like tuna always get it in water do not get it in oil even if it says it's in olive oil it's much harder to control the amount of calories you're getting in i would rather you control the fats so for example take your chunk like tuna and then add some good quality mayonnaise in there that doesn't have a bunch of soybean oil those are kind of the rules that we want to follow we don't want a bunch of soybean oil we want good healthy fats when we're doing this also tremendous fine with mackerel and sardines sardines in water is what we would want to get because again we don't want them in the oil because we don't know much about it even though this is olive oil you know it's not going to be good quality olive oil and even beechcliff for a dollar 14 we can get sardines in water sardines are sardines they're gonna be wild caught generally but they have the best fatty acid profile so if i get two of these suckers then i've got a couple a couple of meals whoops that would work for me dropping stuff all over the place now i could have gotten you know something different i could have gotten these plus or and put something else back and got more of these it's all about rotating so in this case i got two dollars worth of sardines which is going to be two to four good meals depending on how i break it up but at least i get the really good quality fatty acid profile now for the tuna i can't believe how much more expensive tuna has gotten so two dollars and fifty cents and this is going to give me each can one can drain is 22 grams of protein so i've got four more meals here mix it up with a little bit of avocado mayonnaise which by the way don't use like regular mayonnaise which happens to be right here next to the tuna conveniently because look at what's in it soybean oil try to go for a healthier mayonnaise like one with avocado oil or something like that i feel like i got the basics of what we need here there's always going to be something and i probably went over budget a tiny bit so let's see what it ends up being we got our veggies we got our meat and at least we got all the clean stuff to do keto right and we can get the fats in from other sources whenever possible in a perfect world i would have spent a little bit more money on the oils i would have gotten some more like olive oil i would have gotten some avocado oil things like that to rotate it up i have the coconut oil at home so i think i'm in good shape but you definitely want to lean on those healthy fats and not get the fats from the meat sources get the fats from the good healthy monounsaturated fats that truly make it like mediterranean style keto the lime is forever right now so i figured i'd hop over here and show you things that aren't exactly going to fit in the budget but we can at least look at the protein bars and things that they have now now if you allocated things right for example like these suzy good fats bars which i'm a big fan of we have how many bars in here we have four bars for 6.98 so for a little over a dollar we could end up having a meal because there are enough calories in this to be a meal 200 calories totally keto friendly 12 grams of carbs 7 grams of fiber so definitely keto friendly and they taste delicious that is one that is a clean brand i do not like the fit crunch i'm not a big fan of the lenny and larry's the pure protein has quite a bit of garbage in it the quests are okay they've changed their ingredients a little bit i used to always say they send you on a quest to the toilet still kind of do it's just a little bit more of a slow trek to the toilet versus a instaquest to the toilet just because they've changed some stuff so the love good fats bars if you're on a budget and you wanted to be able to have something that's like a sweet treat sort of like a cheat meal replacement cheat meal meal replacement that still fits keto but tastes like a cheat that would be a good one to go with all kinds of different stuff here and we can look at the protein powders really quick too just to show you where you can get a bargain looks like we've got all kinds of different ones now i would usually go with [Music] a gold standard whey even though that's a whey concentrate and away isolate here's an isolate protein what's in this one for 18 bucks we've got whey protein isolate milk protein isolate nope i went straight up whey protein isolate if i was going to get one this this iso dymatize iso 100 what's in this hydrolyzed whey protein isolate whey protein isolate there we go it's got sucralose in it that sucks oh iso here what's this unflavored oh heck yes look at this what's oh way protein isolate and soy lesser than that is it 1.25 per ounce we have what 16 servings for 19 bucks this is an epic find i don't have it in my budget right now but heck yes that is a tremendous protein to get at walmart for that price compared to 84 cents per ounce what do we have here we have 28 servings pre whey protein isolate dutch cocoa non-gmo less than inulin fiber nope i already don't like it with the inulin that's going to bloat me this is just straight up pure that's awesome let's go check out let's see if i made the budget i think i'm a little over but it's all good hopefully we learned some stuff out of this i can't wait to tell you this funny story that just happened to me oh my gosh it never seems to blow me away at what people think basically someone saw that i was buying a bunch of frozen food and they made a comment that i shouldn't be eating so much frozen food because it looked like my cart was full of junk even though it's full of frozen veggies and frozen anyhow i'll explain in a minute i don't think it looks that bad it looks pretty darn clean the question is am i going to hit 100 bucks i i don't know i'm i'm thinking i'll be over for sure [Music] you know we got pretty on close 127 bucks for a month's worth of groceries with plenty of trickle over into next month i'm very very happy with this disappointed that i didn't make my goal of a hundred bucks but okay if i had gotten rid of a couple of the things that i really probably could have gotten away with then i think we'd be right there point is i stocked up i absolutely can do keto for 100 a month in a clean fashion and if i had gone into walmart and wasn't trying to focus on the clean stuff i could have gotten this probably down to 80 bucks point is it's all about the kinds of foods that you pick the specific ratios of fats and everything like that now i'm set and i feel like i can really just follow a program that's going to work for me so as always keep it locked in here in my channel thanks as always and i'll see you tomorrow
