[Music] we're out again today in the mountains of Vermont on a beautiful day in a place that I visited in the early spring with Eddie but we found the grindstone and after chatting with the landowner a little bit he went up and he retrieved the grindstone it's got it in his garden and we were talking and it seems like maybe we missed a home site out here he and his family have been hunting this land as long as they can remember and they're pretty sure there's a place that I haven't found yet and so we're out here to try to find that see what kind of treasures might be in the ground this place is absolutely gorgeous there's stone walls everywhere in this little babbling brook the leaves are just starting to turn and fall a little bit so we're gonna enjoy it while we're here and see what we can find [Music] [Music] just to kind of give you an idea of the land that we're traversing today I know it's hard with the lens of the camera to be able to tell elevation angle and all that this is straight up and down you can tell from the trees and this is the the pitch that we're trying to walk straight on on this Ridge it probably would be easier walking if I went way up there and walked along the top of the ridge but I'm tired already we're gonna stay on the edge here and walk with our feet sideways hopefully get there soon [Music] I'm still walking along I just had to stop these are the probably the biggest trees I've seen in the woods this here is taller than me for sure it's six foot I've got this one here this one here this one here they're enormous let's go look to see this I think there's treasure inside of there I saw something living in there is impressive we don't have much old-growth left in Vermont but here's a some of it at least alright keep walking I think we're almost there all right well I to an area now that I've never been to before there's just a massive stone wall through the way over there there's lots of big trees and I don't see any home sites any obvious home sites but I have a suspicion that this is where he was talking about I think this might be it so we're gonna unpack take our gear out and get set up and swipe around and find something here all right first find this site and it's giving us a pretty good idea of the age and what else we might be able to find a little pewter button and I was just thinking about how thick it is it's very very thick and heavy way more then then I'm used to finding and when I was looking at this I don't know if you'll be able to see it but it's just the right angle up there do you see that right there I thought that maybe that was a crown like a royal provincials button but the more I look at it it decide is bent in a crack that just happened to crack in the shape of a crown my heart started beating so fast but uh it's just your standard pewter button after all all right let's uh cool find anyways let's throw in the bed and keep going all right well we just got a mystery piece of blood here kind of a curved piece of lead I might even be pewter it's kind of stiff so I don't know really be anything I guess all right well I just rechecked this hole and I don't know there's more stuff in it maybe it's more of whatever I just found but uh there's more there it is it's more piece of that lead pewter alright well I think that we have a little bit better picture here what it was this is a spoon bowl pewter spoon very very old here's the rest some of the handle it's a little bit more of the handle and I found this in the same hole just a piece of pottery there's no designs or writing or anything on it but for sure alright well that's it it's exciting see what else we can find alright we've got our first high tone here 74 75 that's pretty good that's a disc of some kind is that a button oh I don't think so I don't see a shank anywhere nice could that be a little little coin let me see if I can get it cleaned up a little bit all right well unfortunately it's just as crumbly as can be and sometimes when I shine the light on it just sideways I can make out a little bit of a bust facing maybe right you can see that the nose on the right there which would leave me to believe probably a george ii british coin which are pretty common around these parts at sites this age could also be a connecticut coin or any number of things really but certainly morale-boosting again I haven't found a home site yet but that doesn't necessarily mean there isn't one maybe they just didn't have a basement and the stones got taken for a newer home lower down the mountain alright let's see what else we can find here so I was walking along you know we metal detect your mind tends to wander and I got thinking about a couple of the most common questions I get asked one is aren't you afraid of snakes snakes luckily for us we don't have any venomous snakes they say that around here on the tops of the mountains we have something called a timber rattler which is poisonous venomous but I've never seen one nobody I know has ever seen one and nobody that I know that they know has ever seen one somewhere they exist but not enough to take precautions against them so no no snakes and that really nervous about anything but getting lost and even then I'm not really worried about too much alright we're gonna keep going out a little bit longer so you can find a few more things alright well we just got a little mystery right in here Isis suspect it's a button but we'll see you we'll clean it off together here whoa look at that thing that has got to be one of the most ornate buttons I've seen unless yeah that's definitely a button you see it's pewter it would have been cast you can see the cast line and where the shank used to be look at that thing holy smokes that is intricate this would have been God I have to imagine a very wealthy person was wearing this lady man I don't know you tell me that is a very old very expensive button that's an expensive-looking button crazy alright well we're gonna be very careful with this it was super crumbly see if we find a few more things alright well we just got another pewter button and this thing is incredible hopefully you can see that with the glare from the Sun I think that that's just a like a flower I'm pretty sure that's what it is but if I think if I learn otherwise I'll certainly let you know but that's a pretty one shank is gone but you can see the casting line of where it was molded like this yeah looks like probably like this incredible that's beautiful alright let's keep going see if maybe we can find some more of these oh well that sounds pretty good 79 79 see alright I had to stop the camera and move it away as the metal detector was picking up the tripod you see how deep this hole is it's crazy whatever it is is is pretty close here and I dig out the rest of the way together whoo look at that nice man I was starting to think that this wasn't worth it but holy smokes it is look at that a beautiful colonial shoe buckle Wow unbelievable that is beautiful is there any more parts of it in here doesn't seem like it yeah it doesn't get much better than that this was born on the shoes and boots of what you would imagine the stereotypical pilgrim looks like another reason I find these so interesting is because they're not part of fashion at all anymore nobody wears big buckles on their shoes like this and when you see and think about something like this it really takes you back to that time incredible all right well this is the find of the day so far see what else we could find so I was just wandering around detecting looking around just spotted this which is a big rock with a little quartz stone on top actually there's a couple others and it's hard to imagine how rocks like that get on top of other rocks if not put there by someone I don't know is there treasure buried underneath a rock have they been sitting there since the last ice age who knows little little things like that it's most mysterious to me I suppose somebody could have sat him there but why spend some time around this area I'll let you know if I find out this [Music] all right we've got a pretty nice height zone here to see all right well I can't see it yet but I'm gonna bring the camera around and zoom in for the recovery here all right when I put my shovel in and just try to go off to the edge here and work it out all right you think it's in the shovel ooh there it is that's a pewter spoon another pewter spoon old one to get that bent back hmm the back is interesting no maker's mark snow pewter spoon probably 1700s beautiful all right that's a good sign let's keep going all right well today's the day of the very pretty pewter buttons check this one out look at that I say it over and over again in my videos but the time and effort that went into creating something like this back then this is a mold all right you can see there's a scene back there so somebody wasn't engraving this one this was you know melted lead pewter into a mold and created this I actually found the a mold for one of these unfortunately I don't have the design side I have the shank side I found one it's brass it's really really cool I find I find so many buttons it only makes sense that I would one day find the the button mold it's actually just part one of three three different pieces but this would have been poured and then had been all cleaned up by hand all the little excess sprues and stuff hanging off of it but I mean come on look at that imagine this on the jacket or coat of somebody walking around these woods 250 maybe 300 years ago mind boggling really really cool I find a lot of buttons but I try to appreciate each one and think about where it came from and what its story might be all right let's keep going keeping you find a few more things today all right well I was just about to call it quits for the day I think I might have just found a hilar high tone and if it's if it's something good we'll call it the last thing the day let's see we can find here it's pretty good it's a mid seventies tone let's see I've got a back camera any pointers hitting it now it's closer there it is I can see it you see that man that looks like a coin to me aha some we can get it identified here hope so seems pretty dry it's in pretty good shape let's get my flashlight out here all right well it's not perfect but this makes the day for sure you can see that there's a lady stand-in there that's Britannia we flip this over check it out that's a right-facing bust and on the right side it says connect co NN EC for Connecticut this is Connecticut copper that's awesome I don't think I'm going to get a date off the bottom but it's probably late 1780s 1787 1788 somewhere around there which is an amazing find anytime you can find a state coin in this very short period of time they were made is try to describe how awesome that is that is incredible Connecticut copper all right well good last hole I'd say I'm sure lots of people who metal detector do this if it gets towards the end of the day and if you didn't find anything that you got really excited about just kind of get on this this path of like all right just one more one more hole and you dig one more hole and it's a bullet and you're like all right well that one doesn't count ready go find something else one more hole and I lucked out this time awesome alright let's uh pack up and get out of here alright well we had a heat warning today it's over 90 degrees and I've had enough I just can't I can't do any more today so let's check it out all right this is uh this is everything you would expect to find at a mid to late 1700s home site I said I suspect we didn't find a cellar but somebody was living here for sure we've got a bunch of pieces of pewter spoon the handle on the bowl of this got a whole nother handle here two other little tiny bowls and two other little tiny handles we did find a couple pieces of pottery I don't know why I hung on it out threw it in my bag but that's what that is piece of Potter who knows what that was really a bowl of a glass who knows look at all of these beautiful buttons this one is like the most intricate I think I've ever seen and then we have to kind of starburst II flower patterns and then two really thick beefy pewter buns that don't have a design on them our shoe buckle look at that thing it's like immaculate it's brass you can see it has this nice green patina on it yeah it doesn't get much better than that and when it comes to colonial artifact and and lastly we have the two coins that we found today one of them is just blank who knows what and the other one is definitely a confirmed Connecticut copper as far as finding coins it's it's definitely one of my favorite copper coins to find any of the state coins really but uh Connecticut I find fairly frequently and it's always exciting alright folks so we are definitely going to come back here again the landowner actually expressed an interest of coming out here and borrowing one of my metal detectors and coming with me so maybe we'll make that happen as well all right it's time to get out of here we got a long walk ahead of ourselves thanks for watching [Music] you
