today I will show how to create this really simple and interesting photo manipulation so let's start hey guys it's pneumonia and welcome to another really fun episode recently I did several for manipulation tutorials that were a little bit longer and maybe a little bit more advanced but today I decided to do one really simple easy basic for manipulation tutorial that will still be really interesting and you will still learn a lot of interesting tips and tricks in this one so stay with me till the end of this episode and enjoy the journey so land of fun begin raid guys we will start with this image and this is the only one that I will do a selection here in the tutorial because all other images that I will use in this tutorial for example like this one I already made a selection before I start recording this tutorial and here I already select everything just to save the time for this tutorial but here on this image I want to show you one really cool trick how to select the cliff and the tree's leaves and everything pretty easy in photoshop so let's do that first first thing this will be like two part selections I will select all of this with two separate selection and selections and blend them into one so first I will use the quick selection tool right here zoom it a little bit make make a bigger brush and just quickly select this parts that are easily selectable so like this okay in this clip right here and I will not be like 100% precise because this part of the cliff will be in the dark so some imperfections will not be so visible and that's cool to know when you're doing your photo manipulations to know your final result how it will be because you can save some time when you're doing your selections if you know that some parts will not be visible then you need to span you don't need to spend like a lot of time selecting some things so I will just fast forward quickly ready guys and this is like really rough selection so to see what you selected you can use one really cool trick just press Q on a keyboard to enter quick mask and everything what is not read is selected or you can go just right here and click on this so Q is to enter and exit the quick mask also when you're in the quick mask you can use brush B on a keyboard I will use like harder brush something like this and smaller okay 100% opacity right here and I will use black and white brush so with the black I can hide everything so everything that I hide it that I paint it with this red color will be out of my selection and everything what I paint with white what I include here actually it will be included in our selection if I press Q you will see that I expanded my selection so I don't want to do that I just want to refine some address like right here and one more trick to show you if you don't like this red color or maybe want to change the opacity of this red quick mask you can just double click on this okay and you have this dialog box so you can change the opacity and change the color for example blue 21% press ok and you have different options here so I like to use red and I will leave it to run 50% so that's okay for my taste so I will just quickly again I will fast forward I'll just quickly paint with with the white brush this part right here I want to refine it because this will be more visible this will not be in such dark as parts down below so I will be back real soon right guys and that's it I just tweaked some parts here and there but as you can see this is not a perfect selection yet but because this will be more like a silhouette we are perfectly okay with this so now we'll press key on a keyboard to exit the quick mask and to bring back our selection and then I will click on the layer mask icon right here to make masks out of our selection okay we are halfway there now we need to bring back our trees branches leaves etc so now I will show you one really cool trick in Photoshop how you can bring back those parts in the mask using channels in Photoshop channels are really powerful selection tools in Photoshop so master it practice experiment with that I will show one way how you can use the channels and also guys if you're not familiar how to select anything in Photoshop you can watch my tutorial about that you can find a link right here so let's go back to the channels if we press and hold shift on a keyboard and click on the mask we will hide everything that is masked out and now we need to have everything visible and then go to channels okay and this is our mask as you can see it's already in the channels but what we need to play with is red green and blue channels we need to find which of those three channels has the highest contrast between the subject that we want to mask out and the background so here the subject is the tree's leaves etc and let's find which one is the best for that so this is okay but not so high contrast the green okay but the blue has the highest contrast between the leaves and the background so that's good we will use blue we'll just drag it here on the new channel layer to make a copy we have a blue copy and now I'll press ctrl or command L to bring back to bring the levels in and I will play with the level so I increase the blacks as you know guys you are making the mask out of it and mask is only black and white so we need to make everything that we want to use white and everything that we don't want to use black but here we'll create opposite and then invert it will create black leaves and trees and white and then we will invert it so let's bring back this and then increase the highlights but not too much like this will blow out everything we don't want to do like that I will show you the trick I can do it because for example look at look at those leaves here if I blow it out I will lose some details I don't want that so this is pretty much okay and then some mid-tones like that even more blacks and we are cool I will press ok and now I will use Dodge and burn tools right here so first I will use the burn tool and I will set it to effect only shadows and we can play with the exposure so I will start with maybe around 50% and just paint the bigger brush on the leaves and now we're getting our leaves black we need to get in order to have it 100% black and it will only affect the leaves because we set here the range to affect only the shadows so I will just fast forward this because I will just paint over the leaves ready guys and now I will use dodge tool and set it to affect only the highlights and now our paint here to make highlights completely white as you can see I will be more careful around these small branches and here inside trees a little bit and this mountain right here I want to remove it completely but now because this is still so similar we need to be a little bit more careful around this and I will not spend too much time tweaking this so I will be a little bit faster a little bit more destructive so maybe I will erase a few leaves here and there because of the time sake of this tutorial I don't need to select like 100% perfect but this is the technique you need just to play be patient and west on time in this this is really easy just take sometimes sometimes it's really fast so depends of damage your masking out ready ice now I will use the black brush okay just a brush black color and 100% opacity and maybe something around 50 60 I don't know and just paint here because I want this to be completely black just slowly paying back some parts of the tree like this and if I'm not sure if something needs to be selected or not I can go just back to RGB and see how okay this needs to be selected so I'll paint right here so this is cool and and this so we're almost done let me see now this everything can I can paint everything here with black because you don't have any kind of sky here etc so all of this right here let's make a selection with a lasso tool all of this right here can be completely black okay then go back to blue copy layer and just fill it and a black that's good right guys now I'll use the lasso tool and select make a selection around the tree like this and right here okay and just invert the selection shift control I or shift command I on the Mac I have inverted and just fill it with white color like that that's cool now let me see I need to use that tool to tweak this a little bit to clean out this and we're done of course I can use the burn tool and just fix those leaves right here but I will leave that to you to make selection perfect but now that we have our pre selected I can press ctrl or command I to invert everything and then ctrl hold ctrl or command key click on the channel here and you will load this as a mask go back to RGB back to layers shift-click on this and just click on the mask make sure that mask is selected and just fill it with white color white color is currently our foreground color so ctrl or command + backspace and that's it guys and now as you can see we have everything so please cliff leaves everything is selected and now we can continue our tutorial I just wanted to show you this technique in this tutorial because it's really helpful and it can save you some time in nerves in a lot of situations and now you know that you can make your final mask out of several different selections and you can use different metals just to select each part of the image and blend everything together into final mask so let's go back to our photo manipulation right guys so this was basically the longer part of this tutorial now everything will be much faster and more interesting so lets blend several different images here together so first what I like to do I like to move this a little bit to the left and then to bring back another image another cliff this one here I already made a selection out of that so I'll just copy here and put it paste it right there press ctrl command T right click flip horizontal and just put it somewhere here and also I want to make this smaller something like this bring it a little bit out of the scene and this is cool but I also want to modify the shape of this cliff right here so to do that I will name this cliff number one this is number two then I will go to clip number one and right click on the layer mask and say apply a layer mask that's it I don't need a layer mask for this because I already have everything that I need so I will just go to filter and liquify so liquify and just modify the shape of this cliff so just move this everything a little bit to the right like this maybe to make the brush even bigger like that and this is one way how I can do it you can use this form tool and warp it several different ways so this is maybe my preferred method for for this situation so it's like that I will press ok and as you can see not bad this is before this is after and maybe I did too much now I can use transform work and just bring this up a little it like that okay or bring this down a little bit but I'm pretty satisfied how this look right looks right now I can bring it in maybe a little bit and this one too so this is cool then I would go to another document and find this thing right here copied and paste it right here ctrl command T make it smaller and just rotate it something like like this I will place it somewhere here for now and then we will draw some ropes here but now let's let's first place all our things in our image so this is girl okay then this one just simple things here there I'll paste it just below the cliffs okay move it right here move it all the way down and just make it touch bigger something like like this maybe let me see this is cool so maybe like this I'll press okay and this is really nice then let's go to another one I like to bring back the sky just paste the sky here I can put it below make it smaller like that maybe even smaller okay this is cool and now we'll go here to the landscape let's rename everything this is sky okay and I will create a mask right here and then I lose brush really soft brush and a bigger one 100 percent opacity black brush and just nest out with really soft brush this there are several things I can maybe leave some clouds I don't know that's an option I need to decide this should I leave that or not or maybe I can make like really clean sky with nice soft transition right here so this is option 2 okay I love it like this okay now let's bring the moon I will use elliptical marquee tool just press a whole shift to make circle and just select the moon it doesn't need to be like 100% precise it was still the clap looks like a moon like that i'll press control/command c go back to our image control command we this is moon okay I will make it smaller put it somewhere here maybe this is nice size but maybe even smaller I don't know maybe even smaller like that okay and this is it for now and maybe we can we can add some birds here and there we have our bird so I don't know let's just select a few of them like this cop it bring it back right here paste it this is birds and now what we need to do we need to put it in a multiply blending mode right and as you can see we have some still like really transparent gray color visible and we'll fix that with the levels I'll just press ctrl command L and just add some brightness okay because it's multiply blending mode we need to make it bright and that's it now i'll press control/command t make everything smaller and maybe put some birds right right here I know we can always tweak it but now everything is in a mess we need to match light the color stones and this it's really easy to be done in these situations and it's really fun so let me show you that to match the light right here you need to play with some curves or exposure adjustment players or letters or whatever you want in these situations I will in this situation right here I'll play with the exporer adjustment layer but before that let's just draw some ropes quickly here it's right there okay I will create a new layer below that ropes and I've leaves just the black color just black brush like 70 or 80 percent opacity make it smaller like this or even smaller and click right here press and hold shift click right there same here click press and hold shift click right there and now what I like to do I like to select both of it and bring it below the cliff so now we have impression that this is clipped somewhere there below the cliff and that's cool maybe let me see just to see the overall size of everything it's okay now let's match everything together so I will select both of the cliffs press ctrl command G to put in your group and then I will add exposure adjustment layer that I will clip to affect only the group right here then I will lower the exposure okay as you can see this is cool I can make it completely silhouette but I don't want that and I can increase the gamma correction so as you can see we can play with those these two sliders and make everything director now I will play with mask of exposure adjustment layer I will use white brush really really soft brush 0% hardness and maybe 10 or so maybe even less 5 percent opacity and just paint back some parts from the moon lights from the moon here on maybe 10% opacity just be a little bit faster actually I will use the black color sorry guys my mistake and now again I have that famous problem they have a big light right here that is facing towards to me and I'm not sure if this is too much lights here or not but for your homework when you're practicing this it will be in a better position so make sure to to nail it better that then I'm doing right now and guys just spend more time to make this even believable go to air relief like just add some brightness to the edge of the leaf right here like it's spilling some lights from the moon it will be more believable in case you want to zoom this in but if in case you want to put it in this just like this like smaller version then it doesn't have sense to date because it won't be visible actually so make sure to know where will you put your father manipulation so this is cool let me just see okay I need to put some lights right here maybe 0.5% opacity and let me see maybe some lights right here on the rock this one this one right here just paint back son lights and I will fast forward this guy if you want to see my full tutorial on how to paint light on your images you can find on the link right here alright guys so this is just the really fast job it should be better but let me see just really quickly even more lights here on the grass but this is pretty much okay for now and now let's do the same for the girl right here again export adjustment layer clip to affect only depth layer down below make everything darker like this this is cool that's a zoomit yeah I really like it now I'll go again here and tweaks and details I will just speak for myself just actually just to show you guys what you can do and how you should do it if this will be like a larger print if you're not doing just for Instagram for Instagram just more version like this these details won't be visible but just to show what you should do I will just bounce forward and you can you can see so I'm just painting lights back here 10% opacity or maybe 20% and just painting lights back so let's do it right guys so this is just for you to get a point you need to play some paint some like backlight from the moon and her if this will be visible but if this won't be visible there is no point to do that there is no point to waste your time so just for the sake of this tutorial I did this to show how you can do it but this is it okay let's go back to the landscape landscape is a little bit different story still I will use exposure and do the same just make it darker just like this but not too much but now we need to fix some colours on landscape and everything yes I will use solid color adjustment layer and just choose some some blue color maybe like this press ok clip it affect only the landscape and put it in overlay blending mode so as you can see this is really cool now we can tweak the colors so I can just go double click and maybe use an hour tone but this is cool or I can sample just this color right here okay and also we can lower the opacity so we can load your passed in that's cool also another thing what we can do we can put you in saturation adjustment layer in between and just lower the situation of the landscape down below because I don't want to be so saturated so that's another thing another way how you can do this is just with the hue and saturation adjustment layer try experiment do for yourself I will not show here I'm just giving you a hint you can do it with just consideration just layer so plate okay so this is for now okay we'll still tweak it even more now let's add some bluish tint on the cliffs right here so I will just press alt or option key drag it over the top right here clip to affect only cliffs and let's play with the opacity that's cool I can even apply the same mask to this one I will do that press alt or option key drag it right here yes so we have the same mask and I really like that so I can even emphasize this and now we are not there yet now let's play with the moon I will add a new layer for the moon and I will use black color actually white color okay 10 percent opacity it just make brush bigger and bigger and just paint sunlight from the moon so that's cool you can decide how many how much right this should be you can always lower the opacity and also I can colorize the moon a little bit with the hue and saturation adjustment layer clip to affect only the moon click colorize and maybe a little more yellowish so just have that yellow more let me see not bad not bad at all we can always play with that but now I'll select light hue saturation and more group it and name it move ok guys so now we need to merge everything together into one layer apply a final color correction and we are done so let's do that to merge everything together I will go to the top layer press shift ctrl Alt key or shift command option key on a Mac and merge everything together and then I will go to filter and camera oh you know that's you know that that's one of my favorite ways to color grade my image at the end but let me show you another way how you can do it because we are always doing it the same way let's just hide this create just curves adjustment layer right and just play with some colors I like to add a little bit more blue to the shadows and lower some blue from highlights also I will go to a color blending mode because I don't want to mess with lightness I just want to play with the colors then with the greens I will add some greens to the shadows okay and then I can remove some greens from the highlights and mid-tones to add more variety in it and then red I can add even more red here you can see it depends how I like to tweak this play with this so this is one way I can do it and actually I really like this so this is this is cool before and after it's really fun so another way you can do that you can even go with maybe color balance so play with that tweak colors even more maybe you want your highlights to be like more ads you can do that right here or more cyan whatever you want more yellow so it's up to you okay but now I'll show how you can do that in a camera - so let's reveal this layer go to filter camera filter and now let's just expand this little leaf let's play with things right here I will add a little bit more contrast open the shadows just touch and then I will go to split toning so similar that we did with the curves I will a little bit more bluish tone to the shadows and some reddish tones the highlights see basically almost the same what we did with the curves we can change like we did with the color balance we can change the hue of highlights but I'll leave it to the radish and I will lower the intensity of that red parts only I will limit it actually only to the brightest part so like like this okay and let me see before and after yeah just a small small tweaks here and there that's cool then I will go right here and increase the clarity because clarity it's really good for this one so I'll increase it a little bit why not I will lower the situation but I will increase vibrance a little bit so again before and after really nice maybe play with overall my white balance if you want you can that's it and I will just sharpen here just quick sharpening let me see yeah so not too much and that's basically it guys I can also add some kind of vignette to those and that's it so let me see if I hide this before and after before and after I like it really cool of course there are still a lot of possibilities a lot of tweaks to be done here I'm leaving that to you you can also make this like a book cover so you can just add some text for example I can I can type Dreamland okay make it bigger like it's for a book cover and I'm the outer so oops and that's it this is my new novel about I don't know what but it's it's cool let's censor this that's good and now guys I have my book cover for my new book read guys we are finally done with this tutorial of course there are a lot of things here to be done if you want I'm now leaving everything to you and up to your imagination you can even add some animal ski we can change the background you can add you don't need to have like that nature landscape you can add some cities and pyramids whatever you want you can have different skies and crazy colors or you can even add some clouds to be below that girl and some space about I don't know whatever you want be creative try to imagine different things and play with this this is really simple and easy way how you can combine elements together and to create something really nice and cool also guys if you have any questions regarding to this episode please leave them down there in the comment section below I will be glad to answer
