[Music] it's time to elevate our plants let's get them off of the floor i do a lot of diy stuff on instagram so i'm gonna compile some of the things that i did there and also show you some of the things i'm doing in this cottage and elsewhere back home so it's really about getting our plants off of the floor creating a plant stand from almost nothing or using things that aren't necessarily plant stands as plant stands and repurposing things into plant stands anyway enough of that let's just start with the plant stands and hangers one thing i did i don't know sometime last year was i took up you hear those birds they never stop they're still in the chimney i crazy i took a basket and i put a piece of wood it was just a disc from a tree that was cut that cut up to make something else at some point in time and i bought some legs online and i think i'm not sure where i got them from and i just screwed them into the wood between the basket and the wood and i had a instant plan stand it looks great you can do it with pretty much any basket a cloth basket a rattan basket sisal any type of material but it really lifts the plant off of that floor plane right we just want them up kind of more like eye level or a little bit below eye level so that's what that does so that's a really great way of creating something that's aesthetically pleasing with not a lot of money and maybe you have baskets even a laundry basket this is something else i did i had this hammock that was not really comfortable and kept falling over so i decided i was going to take it apart and i didn't know what i was going to do with it until i started looking at it when it was hanging up and i decided i'm going to make a plant hanger because we all need more hangers for our plants so i just unraveled the hammock and i tied it together and i just think it kind of came out really pretty and then eventually i kind of took different portions of it apart and i don't know i just i had some fun with it i still have the other part of the hammock i'll probably do another one one time sometime soon but i think it looks elegant and you can hang a lot of plants from that plant hanger i was not so sure how this was going to turn out but i had this idea in my head for a little while and i was actually hunting for children's chairs and my neighbor gave me some and i said okay this is perfect because i wanted to create a plant stand but by just putting the front ends of the chairs together and i i think i used like a metal uh some sort of metal anchoring thing i forgot what it's called a plate and i screwed it in the bottom and i just tied rope around the backs of the chairs and it kind of came out cute so that's something you can do too or you can just take a children's chair and put a plant on it because when you grow up you're a little too big for those chairs so they look good with plants i think anything looks good with plants on them but any type of old children's furniture is also a great plant stand this is something else you can do but don't go too high because it might fall over but you can stack up terra cotta and you can actually glue it together and create an elevated plant stand with terra cotta terracotta is not expensive and you can go as high as you want but just be careful because it might fall over if it's outside or you can use larger terracotta pots than i did and it definitely creates more of a of a base that is stable the other thing you can do too is you can turn over a larger planter and then put the plant on top of it so it gives you another how many inches i don't know depends on how many inches the bottom pot is but raise it off the floor by just using things like that you can use books and you can use suitcases you can use whatever you want because it's what we got is what we use at this point just regular pieces of wood i love wood i i do i really do but it looks so rustic and beautiful and you can just have like a wood block or you can kind of create your own wood stand by stacking wood or you can build out of wood you can make like you can use cedar and make beautiful plant stands out of that like very mid-century modern type or you can use you can use old wood recycled wood but it's all it all depends on how creative you are feeling but just a simple block of wood is easy you just plop the plant on top of it instant plant stand this is an idea i had i got i forgot where i got the idea from but i saw this fence post these fence posts and they decided i was going to use that as an outdoor plant stand so i hammered it into the ground and i secured a terracotta pot on it by using a saucer and drilling through it and adhering it that way and it just looks kind of cool and you can do a whole bunch of them together at different heights and have hanging plants so that's a really great idea for an outdoor garden you can maybe even do it indoors by putting it on just a large piece of wood and screwing it there so you can do whatever you want but this is the idea let's let the juices creative juices flow and the other thing you can do too if you want to hang a plant you can just take a piece of wood drill four holes on the in the corners and use rope or use chain and make a hanging plant shelf super easy to do and you can probably even have many levels it's just so beautiful i think and rustic or you can use more like refined wood like laminated wood whatever you think you that you've got or you want to make it out of whatever look you're looking for you can do it with that you can make it look modern or you can make it look rustic benches benches i love putting plants on benches little benches big benches the long benches it just they look beautiful you can paint the benches different colors and it just gives that just gives that space the plant love it needs i'm telling you like just a bench is great children's benches swinging benches i don't know about that i'm going crazy with the benches but they're kind of easy to find at antique stores at uh vintage fairs places like that you might even have some in your house but benches are perfect i started using candle holders recently for plants because they just look like the perfect place to put a four inch diameter or five inch diameter plant on it they just and you can hang them on the wall if you have the tall ones like the candelabra type no that's not right but just the tall candle holders and you can have them at different heights it's a really beautiful focal point for a table or for a fireplace or for a counter they're really and they're everywhere i see them everywhere i go so kind of easy access you can even make your own make your own candle holders since i moved into this cottage for a little while this this coat rack has turned into a plant rack and i'm sure you can do that with any type of coat rack especially i love that it has these little these little like semi-circle metal prongs that the plants fit perfectly in it so that is now a plant stand i think almost everything here is a plant stand except for the cloth like couches and stuff you don't put we don't put plants on on couches i haven't done that yet ladders i love ladders i absolutely love putting plants on ladders the kinds that have like two sides and the kinds that you lean up against the wall i haven't figured out how to do that yet because the only ones i have just have like the just like the round ladder rungs i guess they're called but you could probably put pieces of wood on there and they you could create a whole shelving system with ladders or you could hang the plants from the ladders that are leaning against the wall but ladders are perfect i love vintage ladders i love finding them i collect them i make things out of them but mainly i like to put plants on ladders because they're just perfect for showing off your plants anyway i just wanted to give you guys some different ideas so because you might be struggling with too many plants and no place to put them that happens it happens quickly and uh i just want you to know that there's many types of surfaces they can go on pretty much any surface but if you're looking for just smaller ideas you know look for smaller tables look for smaller benches look for smaller plant stands and you'll be amazed at different heights how beautiful they can look together anyway you guys thank you so much have a fabulous weekend i hope you find some cool things if you're going out if not i hope you can make some really cool things because you know we have to get through this together and try to stay sane that is the goal and the plans help us feel sane yes they do me slightly bye
