oh little robot you're the only one i can talk to it's true if i say anything anymore if i say anything anymore i'm an ist i'm a phobe i'm a white supremacist it's just ridiculous it was so exciting yesterday i went out to the to the river went down to the river trail i ran my three miles and i got nine minutes and 10 seconds per mile that is my best time yet i'm almost almost as fast as a 12 year old girl yay and i've been working man i've been working for the past month and a half two months i've been going out there multiple times a week i've been running my wife and i have done four 5ks already i go out there i look like a i look like an idiot i guess by gag i swear 12 year 12 year old girls lap me but with with my effort with going out there day after day after day i've gotten better i've improved i can actually see you know eight minute miles on the horizon and i'm so excited about that yay i'm doing better but you know you can't you can't tell anybody about that anymore because if i say that i've spent the past month and a half two months you're really working hard trying to get better getting myself into shape somehow that's fat shaming somebody else no you know don't you know somebody has a leg that doesn't allow them to run so the fact that you're talking about running that's fashion that's what that's what we get that's what we get out of this modern world that's why i like you robot i like you because i can just sit here and talk about the crap that i think is just completely normal and completely sane and say yay i'm doing a little bit better but anyways anyways can't piss off the snowflakes now can i so i'm gonna go talk to the jackasses i'm gonna go talk to the jackass youtube viewers for a little bit but when i'm done when i'm done we should sit down and have another one of these conversations okay okay a little robot let me go let me go talk to the no nuts out there hello again as you know i am eli the computer guy and i am so happy that you're here you're such a special little snowflake and i want you to know how much i care about your opinion how much i respect your feelings because really the feelings of special little snowflakes that's that's what's really important in this world it's not about getting better it's not about improving your situation it's not about empowering people hell no hell no that's for the nazis the important thing is that you feel okay ah not anywho yeah my real friends might be offense in this modern world in this modern world of complete insanity possibly the sanest thing that you can do is build some friends why make friends you can build them oh god but it is weird it is funny again went out there i've been working hard working hard trying to trying to improve my run time did three miles yesterday um flat so flat so fly and asheville flat is beautiful right so uh so i did the three miles the elevation change was six feet six feet of elevation but i always went out of there just hard ass hold fat flabby ass ass i got down to 9 10 miles very happy very proud about that but the funny part is the funny part is again it's the difference between like the youtube world and the real world see in the real world uh people would be happy for you people would be impressed with you know not necessarily impressed by the number but like yeah you go out there you make yourself better but like in the youtube social media world you say you're making yourself better and people get offended because apparently that's shaming then do you understand i can't run the fact that you're talking about running is an assault against me your words are violence i know violence apparently you don't i'm just saying yes run along run along and that's the thing like to be thinking about like are you in an empowering environment right if you're trying to go out there and if you're trying to lose weight if you're trying to run if you're trying to exercise in whatever way you're kind of trying to exercise and people are downers and they're blah whatever get rid of those jackasses get rid of those worthless pieces of human trash and try to go out there and actually find an empowering environment i was actually thinking about that today because i'm kind of tired again 9 10 miles are not exactly amazeballs or anything but for me they're good for me they're good and i gave it my i gave it my all out yesterday and so tonight tonight there's another pub run there's a pub run so the pub run is where you go to the pub you do your run you come back you drink a beer and then you're around other people it's getting nourishing in all kinds of different ways anyway so after my run yesterday my muscles are a little sore my muscles are a little sore and honestly honestly if i could skip the pub run tonight i probably would skip the pub run tonight but here's the thing this is where you talk about like an empowering community an empowering society so i invited one of my friends to start doing the pub runs and he started doing the pug runs a little while ago and then he invited one of his friends to start doing the pup runs and so that guy has done a couple of pub runs now here's the thing my original friend isn't able to be there tonight but this other friend was like hey i will see you at wednesday at the pub room and so he's like new he's like new so i'm like i'm like an old timer now you know being there a month and a half i'm an old timer so now i'm kind of like an old timer and he's still pretty new and so he is coming and he's expecting to see me so if i don't go tonight i'm kind of letting him down and so even though i'm kind of sore even though i'm kind of tired i'm like oh i guess i can run another three miles and drink a beer and that's empowering that's empowering like when when the environment that's where we talk about structural we talk about structural things to improve you when your environment pushes you to be better when your environment pushes you to do more when your environment supports the gains that you are trying to get that is the type of environment that you want uh so i'm gonna go run unfortunately unfortunately tonight it's not a six foot it's not a six foot elevation difference like 400 foot elevation difference oh frick running in that field just because that's the thing i ran like for years and years in maryland i had run and i stopped running to run and stuff but that's like maryland is pretty flat maryland like the hilliest the hilliest run i did in maryland is probably less than one of the flattest runs here almost um but that's the thing you go out there for like three miles oh my god it's three miles it's one mile like this which is that is very nice like one mile down that's very nice it's one mile flat okay not too bad then it's like one mile oh but anyways i told the guy i was gonna be there i told the guy i was gonna be there he's expecting me to be there i don't wanna let him down and so i'm gonna be there and i'm going to run a run run run run even if i do gag along the way that's the other thing that's hard too and i think that's that's one of the things like a lot of people don't they don't learn how to look stupid they don't learn how to feel weak because like one of the things you have to understand too here in asheville is everybody is such in shape everybody like when i say people here are in shape i'm not saying they can run five or six miles i'm not saying they do half marathons i'm not even saying they do marathons oh no oh no one of the guys one of the guys that leads uh one of the pub runs that i do uh literally one of the weeks he wasn't there and i was like oh uh where did he go or where is he and they're like oh he's up doing a hundred mile a run he's like what what i thought a marathon i thought a marathon was a lot doing a hundred mile run he does that a couple times a year a couple times a year he just spends a day going out a day and when i say a day i'm not saying eight to five i'm not saying six to six he spends a day it's like 23 hours of running you're like oh and then i was talking to somebody about that and i was like yeah well so i mean you know used to be the marathon so a hundred miles are there really any is there really anything longer out there than a hundred miles no yeah there's 200 mile runs like what what do you what do you mean there's 200 mile run what does that even mean i don't i don't even i can't get through that that through my head so you start and then like 200 miles later you stop and so that's the thing i think that's one of the things like a lot of people it's like these weird skills again especially if you're gonna be a technology professional it's these weird skills that you really need to get good at and one of the skills is being okay feeling stupid and being okay feeling weak right when you sit there and you're gagging and you're choking and you're barely getting through the run and then you grab a beer and you sit down you're like yeah so what are you up to again one of the guys i actually like spartan runs spartan runs are a thing you know what spartan runs are yeah you run 30 miles well that doesn't sound bad like you were just talking about 100 mile runs oh no you do 30 miles but within that 30 miles there's something like 18 obstacles so things like picking up 100 pound rocks and moving them a couple hundred feet after you've already run 15 miles or you know doing the tarzan swing or whatever and just sitting there and be like oh oh yeah i did pretty good at night i actually i actually ran up the hill i'm feeling pretty nice i knocked that three miles out how are you doing yeah well you know preparing for the spartan run this weekend uh i think i should be able to get my 30 miles done in a reasonable time it's it's some of those obstacles that are going to be difficult what what do you mean 30 miles what do you mean obstacles what the but anyways that's what i see with so many people that's what i see with so many young people is their egos have been so cuddled right they've been told they're so special they've been told they're so wonderful that they get into an environment where they are outmatched by 12 year old girls they don't know how to deal with that again when i talk about this 12 year old girl it's both a metaphor and a reality uh we just did that last 5k oh my god i swear to christ these kids were coming up to my nipples and they were just zipping the by and i think that's one of the big problems one of the big problems with with the younger generation is they've been told they're so special i've been told that they're so wonderful that when oh when they hit the moment when they see that they are outmatched by every in the room including the 12 year old kid and the 70 year old guy they just they just don't they just don't know how to deal with it and they shut the hell down why again like like it's a difference in mentality one of the things that i always say is why why do i want to deal with people that are lesser than me now don't get me wrong obviously i do education obviously i talk with people in the real world but one of the things i don't really want to be around my lessers right that's just like if i'm the smartest guy in the room if i'm the most athletic person in the room that's a bad real right what's the point of that right okay maybe it pads my ego i'm the coolest person in the room but if i don't have anybody to compete with in the room if i don't have anybody anybody to strive to keep up with in the room then i'm just i'm just going to languish i'm not it's going to be very difficult to get any better like for me i want to be the weakest stupidest in the room and again that's what's so horrible about the modern generations you talk about being the weakest stupidest stupidest in the room and they can't get it through their heads why the hell you want that it's because because that's how i get better if i am around my clear betters that forces me to strive to be better so that i have a place at the table again we think about motivations what one of the motivations that i care about is having a place at the table being able to sit at the table even if i'm gagging and coughing can barely keep up i want that place at the table because i want to know what the hell is going on right and so to be in the room and strive to be better to have that place on the table it's a very valuable thing but what you see with so many so many of the younger folks nowadays they've just they've just been told their ego is so important your ego is so important and feeling special and wonderful and being like a winner is so important that you put them into a room where they are outbacked by every in the room they just freeze up and then they go away and then they go away i can't deal with this they're all better than me yeah they are that's why you need to stay in the room not only do you need to stay in the room you need to target the lowest hanging fruit in that room and compete with them until you beat them and that's what you do as you work your way up the room and then when you get to be the smartest person in the room then you go to the next room where you're the stupidest person again but sadly sadly in this modern world young folk don't seem to grasp that concept but why would i want to be the stupidest person in the room but when i hang out with fat stupid slobs i'm the coolest person there yeah yeah anyways oh how are you oh my god we are 15 minutes into this video i haven't even gotten into what this video is about so let's go over and talk about this with uh with the cornell cornell university is shutting down because of the omicron variant and so i think this is an interesting story because it shows how omicron is spreading the disaster of how our institutions are dealing with omicron and the fact that um it appears that most people that are getting fed with omicron are actually already vaccinated and maybe a lot of them are also boosted so this is coming from the ultra right wing national public radio cornell shuts down its ithaca campus after significant signs of omicron variant found cornell university is shutting down its ithaca new york campus and is moving to alert level red its highest alert level due to what officials say is a rapid spread of covert 19 among the students as of tuesday afternoon the campus reported at 469 active student cases of the coronavirus and that for the week of december 6 about three percent of tests were positive among the students tested in an online letter to students cornell university president martha pollock said that campuses cover 19 testing lab team detected evidence of the omicron variant quote in a significant number of monday's positive student samples because of the closures across campus pollock said all final exams for the fall semester will be moved online and all campus activities including campus athletics are canceled the school's libraries are also closed for students in addition the school's recognition ceremony for fall graduates scheduled for uh december 18th is canceled so if you were going to uh going to be graduating this uh in the in the fall you're not going to get that graduation ceremony quote while i want to provide reassurance that to date we have not seen severe illness in any of our infected students we do have a role to play in reducing the spread of the disease in the broader community pollock said joel molina vice president for university relations told npr in an emailed statement that for the past 20 months the university has developed and followed a science-based approach to coven 19 decision making so we're going to talk about this later because everybody's like science science science science science and i did well we'll just juxtapose this uh they're saying science-based approach to cover 19 decision-making and the other article we'll talk about in this particular video is from insider record cornell students say they were left panicked and frustrated by the abrupt campus shutdown amid covet 19th spikes isn't that cool what's always kind of interesting again with how our decision makers are doing things nowadays they're like we are using a saw a practical science based decision process and then all the people that are affected by the decisions are like what the going on i don't understand what's going on it's like huh maybe saying just saying science-based decision-making is not enough the decisions which involve ongoing modeling and surveillance testing help campus officials identify positive cases early and minimize the spread of chronovirus on campus which is also interesting when we go over and take a look at this other article where they're like well from the students perspective quote virtually every case of the operon variant to date this is the horrible part has been found in fully fully vaccinated students a portion of whom have also received a booster shot we have not seen evidence of significant disease on our students to date and so this is the other currency thing when we talk about omicron we talk about vaccines we talk about vaccine mandates and the whole nine yards virtually every case of omicron to date has been found and fully of vaccinated students a portion of whom have also received a booster shot and again this is my concern with the government continuously focusing on the vaccines i am vaccinated i got my booster you might really think about doing it i am not i anti-vaccine not anti-booster but the problem is what we see with our governments is what we what we've heard especially out of the uk you know boris johnson over there he says the only way we're gonna get out of this is if everybody's vaccinated and you're like yeah but omicron cuts through the vaccine i mean like omicron is i don't know 40 times apparently more infectious than delta and it doesn't seem to give a damn about the vaccine so so when you have something that is massively more infectious than delta and seems to basically ignore the vaccine then why then why would it be that the only way you can get out of this is is through the vaccine those two things don't go together what's kind of interesting here then as we go over take a look at what the students are saying right because this is all coming from the decision makers we go over to insider and again cornell students left panicked and frustrated by canvas shutdowns uh the cornell university community is panicked in the wake of an abrupt campus shut down amid an alarming spike in kova 19 cases students told insider two students told insider the sudden disruption though not completely unexpected left the community anxious quote many students are simply exhausted rebecca harrison a phd candidate said over email many of us are frustrated by poor communication and clear lack of planning from cornell especially when we came back to campus from thanksgiving and again this is what we see time and time and time again from the decision makers the decision makers say we we have a science-based approach we have a process and then you go listen to the people that are affected by that process and they're like we have no idea a one minute is one thing the next minutes another we have no confidence in our decision makers because whatever the hell the decision makers are doing if they actually have a plan if if they actually have a plan they are not communicating any of it worth a damn and this is becoming a bigger and bigger issue as we deal with coven even after the university noted the increased danger students said they were told they would be expected to sit for in-person exams this week at 50 capacity even as rumors spread on campus quarantine capacity reaching its limit uh halabe a senior computer science major said on-campus residents who tested positive for the virus throughout the throughout the majority of the semester were being quarantined at the university's on-campus hotel but as cases spiked in recent days haleb said students who tested positive as well as some resident advisors reported that on-campus students who were sick with the virus were being told a quarantine in their dorm rooms white for it even if they lived with roommates who had not tested positive for the virus ah so what we want you to do what we want you to do we know you're infected uh so what we're gonna do is we're gonna put you in this room uh with uninfected people and you're expected to stay there the entire time with these uninfected people and this this is going to allow us to get past coven again you just what so you have people that are infected with coven you're putting them in with roommates that are not infected with coping what's your definition of science maybe that's the problem maybe that's the problem maybe i just don't understand what the definition of science really is um one twitter user described her experience testing positive on campus saying she received an email that says she should quarantine in her room despite sharing a washroom with floor mates uh jenya okay let's talk about how an ivy league institution is doing a job handling coven when there's a sudden rise on campus i'm at cornell university and i tested positive day before and was supposed to be relocated to a place to quarantine the next morning the next morning comes and i don't receive any calls or mails on what the next plan of action is then they are kind enough to send me a mail that i'll be quarantined in my own room which is perfectly fine but that means i'll be sharing a washroom with people on my floor so literally they're having these people quarantined with people that aren't sick with covid science i guess quote i don't recall call it ever suggesting that we ever had more than like 150 or 200 spaces harrison's told insider i don't see how they could possibly not have an excessive number of students quarantining in dorms with shared spaces today's announcement was the first communication we had from administration since they doubled down on in-person exams on saturday harrison told insider for many of us i think the bigger surprise wasn't that we moved to alert level red and were encouraged to leave but rather there was no meaningful intervention sooner that might have prevented this and again we go back to what cornell is saying and they're saying we have a science-based decision-making approach and the students are like what haleem said uh students were already stressed about their finals over the weekend after the university confirmed that they would take place in person uh despite rising cases students were told that even if you've been in contact with someone who tested positive you should still be going to your finals it's literally what they're pretty deciding again science it's a science-based approach uh see the science is is that if you're infected we're going to put you into a room with a whole bunch of uninfected people and then like their uninfection will cure you i think but now the sudden shutdown has left the community even more anxious as professors scramble to transfer already printed tests online sometimes for classes of hundreds uh quote we really don't know what next semester is going to look like hilib said from all of this and so i think this is the interesting thing and it shows it shows our institutions breaking down with dealing with it with a virus and it shows again the lack of leadership higher up the chain of command with biden with the cdc with falsey again think about this for a sec and is it you know microcosm isn't the macrocosm the microcosm is you have this university you have the university staff all patting themselves on the back saying that they have a scientific approach that they're monitoring things that they have things under control and then you look at the stupid the student body who has no clue what's going on the student body is saying wait a minute we didn't get communicated with very well wait a minute we're quarantined they are quarantining kovid and people infected with coven in rooms with people that are not infected with coven how does a make sense if that is science if that is science i need to go back to school apparently you know that's what that's what they say you know once you're out of school and you go back and you know re you read modern high school you know science books or whatever everything looks different again when i was in high school uh they were still teaching us about the rings of like electrons and all that kind of stuff so you have the neutron in the middle or whatever and you have the electrons and you head into rings and that's how we were taught atoms worked and then like 10 or 15 years later they were showing like atom clouds it's not really a ring it's these weird i don't know eight looking shaped clouds or whatever and that's what they say you know after you've been out of school for a while that they even science even how science is described changes apparently i need to go to school i'm in my mid-40s it's been a long time since i've been to high school so maybe i just do not understand science anyway maybe that's a problem people like me all the old-timers like me we're like this isn't science and then they're like no you don't understand you don't understand see modern science this is modern science this is modern science where your feelings matter this is modern science where we just pull crap out of our ass and then say it's science like where does that make sense you're quarantining young people with copin in rooms with young people that don't have covid and and then not communicating with it and again i think that's i think one of the interesting things here is again we talk about this with structural where where again one of my arguments with covid is that we are not going back to january of 2020 so we should we should be building for january of 2030. how can we use what we've learned now to build for january of 2030. and one of the interesting things that you see and you see how our institutions are failing is where they talk about transferring paper tests digitally right so you have all these professors who now have all of these paper tests that they have to transfer and make them digital so that students can take the test here's the thing here's the thing we know we know covet is going to be around for a while we know that there's going to be clusterfucks we know that co that omicron is actually a good not a bad thing to happen i'm not saying omicron is a good thing to happen but when we talk about variants and everything else omicron is not the worst freaking thing out there in the world and so one of the big questions here is why why is cornell still doing uh tests that would have to be transferred from paper uh to to digital why aren't why aren't they digital first at this point why haven't they improved their system for things like testing so that if if some variant comes out of left field that it's no big deal well you were going to be on your computer you know in the in the classroom in order to take the test and now you're gonna be in the computer in your dorm room to take the test right i don't know science eli it's science uh but again this is this is my frustration that's where i talk about like with well when i talk about with uh you know dojo derby when i talk about silicon dosha when i talk about government response and institutional response that's where we just still see that these institutions are running around like chickens with a head cut off they use words they use fancy words but those fancy words don't really mean anything and this creates this creates distrust in the system this creates distrust and so people people have to make decisions based off of the thought that everything can change overnight again i talk about this i want to go to web summit so for me to go to web summit it would have been many thousands of dollars airfare to web summit hotel room for a website for the whole nine yards to get my media pass for web summit web summit is a pretty good pretty good time to go but one of the things was not only did i have to be vaccinated uh to get go to web summit but then they also tested you because again you can get infected even if you're vaccinated they test you before you get into web summit and so one of my concerns is right i get an airplane here i spend a long time flying being around people and all that kind of stuff by the time i get to web summit there is the possibility even though i'm vaccinated even though i was shown no symptoms that i would test positive over covet and if i was testing positive for covert then i would not be able to get into web summit and i'd have to go into quarantine in lisbon and that would suck it would suck to spend many many thousands of dollars to spend ten days in a hotel room in lisbon and they get shut down the country right so again so it was uncertainty why did i not spend that money why didn't i not travel because of the uncertainty again this is one of the things i look at with with ces ces coming up still should i should i stay or should i go i i don't know but that this is one of my concerns is when we see omacrom when we see institution institutions say they have policies institutions say they have rules institutions say they're making they're making decisions based off of scientific you know hubba blue but the problem is is that we don't know even though ces is only three weeks away at this point there is a real possibility that you know within a week or within a couple of days of ces you know all the rules may get chucked out the window and all of a sudden airfare and hotel room and everything else all of that money goes to waste and these these are the things that people are thinking about as they make decisions uh for for the future again you know if you see a university getting shutting shut getting shut down one of the real questions then is for next semester is it better to get is it better to continue with the university or is it better to go and try to get a job right that's that's a massive decision right there going to getting a job you're getting professional experience you're earning money the whole nine yards staying in your college degree means you're more likely to come out get a degree maybe get a better job in the future but if you're sitting there and you have no idea and you more importantly you have no trust in the decision makers of the institutions that means making that decision becomes much harder and you start getting more weird stuff i would say so anyways that's my thought i think it's interesting using science are you sure are you sure i guess i guess it must be that whole thing with electrons i thought electrons did this apparently electrons do this maybe that's what is going on with science so i don't know what do you think about this oh what do you think about cornell shutting down their uh shutting down their campus because of omicron or ithaca campus because of omicron breaking out what do you think about the fact that it appears virtually every case of the omicron variant to date has been found in fully vaccinated students a portion of whom have also received a booster shot what do you think about the the administration talking about their science-based approach and then the students going what do you think about all this i don't know put your thoughts down below put your comments down below from the bottom of my heart from the bottom of my heart if i offended anybody by talking about going out there and running and trying going out there and trying to improve myself i apologize i apologize i should not make you feel bad for when i try to improve myself right i've seen i've seen the error of my ways i'm gonna go out there i'm gonna get a whole basket of bacon double cheeseburgers i'm gonna get a six pack of beer and i'm gonna sit in front and watch netflix for the next week just so i can gain an extra 20 pounds and get a little bit more out of shape so that the fat slobs out there that don't want to get off their asses you know so they so they don't feel offended by what i'm doing anywho again as i say the reason that i'm here the reason that i'm here is to shake my brain nipples this is not what i really care that much about i mean i care but not that much uh but i'm here to shake my brain nipples so i can get the ad revenue from youtube so i can do what i really care about with this which are the silicon dojo and the dojo derby vehicles so basically in january we're probably going to start having little dojo derby races so these are little vehicles that you can build um all the parts you can buy at amazon it has a full tech stack on here this is a quad core processor four gigs of ram full wi-fi stack full networking stack the whole nine yards basically we use this uh to build a vehicle and then we can erase the vehicles around and do little competitions and that type of thing and everybody can come everybody can come because it's genderless because even if you don't have legs it doesn't matter because the vehicle is running for you again that's one thing like when i get these little snotty-ass pieces of out there right this again with the whole socials i actually do care about that i actually do think about that i'm actually trying to build that into the systems that i'm creating but you know there's a difference between trying to build something that everybody can be involved in and me trying to get my fat ass into shape at least yeah whatever um but anyways so this is what i'm doing again silicon does your authority let's get cuberless free to the end user tech education that empowers you to do whatever it is that you want to do um if you want to support me there's a link down below uh i do uh professional development um zoom calls on thursdays thursdays from two to four pm we do the professional development calls you can ask about what programming languages to learn whether your certifications or go to college or any of that kind of thing and um and yeah that's about it that's about all i've got there's a there's a link for that down below and so with that i'm gonna um i'm gonna go i'm gonna do another couple of these videos um and then i'm gonna build robots and then i'm gonna go run tonight i'm gonna go run because somebody's expecting me to be there because i am in an environment that encourages and empowers me to try to do better i am an environment that empowers me to try to get to the level that i want to get to are you in an environment like that something to ponder
