[Music] hello welcome back to city planner plays where we are building the city of ashland in clearwater county and we have some big plans today we are going to build out our waterfront and build a really spectacular beach and this will round out our play through in ashland for the time being but before we get to that there are a couple more things i want to do in the courthouse area we have this really interesting place now but i feel like there's more that we could do here and we're gonna do it so one of the things that was suggested in patreon was pedestrianizing this street here and first of all we're missing something big uh we're missing our street names so i think that we should take a look at that so i talked about how i wanted this to be a special street it's difficult to have a special street without naming our streets this will be umbrella way and what i want to do here to make this a special street is to pedestrianize it so we're going to use this really fun pedestrian street mod or asset that we got make sure we don't ruin everything bring that to ground level we are going to pedestrianize this so this is a one-way street it does a couple of things first you can see it adds these benches and it makes it feel a little bit different than all the other streets that we have it's mainly a pedestrian street but it will allow people let me look at tmpe we look at our vehicles that are allowed here right now everything is allowed we're gonna take that down no cars no transit just garbage uh freight and police so i think this is a good improvement for this street and it's gonna make it feel like a special place but we can do a little bit better here and i said that we're gonna focus on our coast and we're gonna do that but i do wanna do one quick thing i got these cool planter assets and i thought it would be really nice to have a couple of these here with some trees just a little bit a little something to make this a little bit more unique the other thing i want to check is night what does this look like at night we have some lighting but probably not enough for this kind of street so what i'm actually thinking about doing i'm going to grab this street i'll go through in here and i'm going to actually take the lights and remove them interesting so it's actually not showing me that as an option so i'm thinking that this is showing up as a road decoration let's just hide everything interesting so perhaps it's showing up as a tree yeah not exactly sure why that is occurring but i'm gonna still add a couple more lights here now it's a well-lit street it's a unique place and i like it i think that this would be an excellent place to go and hang out so very pleased with that we're going to take this back to noonish and one thing that i haven't done or a couple things that i noticed first of all if you look at the buildings that are spawning they're a little bit different here than here and i you know i was trying to figure out why it's pretty straightforward so the reason why is because i have this district here that is a little bit weird so we're gonna fix it okay and this should clean things up my building themes in this district were different than this other district and that was causing some of the issues that we had so i clearly don't want to continue to have those sorts of issues the other thing with glade square so when i look at the themes we have brick downtown and mansion district and that's it and that's okay but we're going to see that this isn't really going to fill in all that well so what i'm thinking is i might actually add in historic american as well and that should help this fill in a bit it might actually take brick downtown away from here just because some of the buildings it's spawning i don't love so hopefully this improves the aesthetics in this area you can see things starting to fill in now after i made those couple of changes so we'll let that continue to happen and in the meantime we're going to get some key walls built so i want to use some of these from the most recent content creator pack and what we're going to do is we're going to turn off our grid because i really want to focus on our road guides to place these i'm going to place a couple down where i know i can get them really straight and because this is a network it operates exactly like oh i see we need water too so we'll focus on that because this is a network it operates in the exact same way that roads do so if you can do it with a road you can do it with the key wall look at that quick and easy so i'm gonna go through and quickly add key walls and i think i'm gonna add them from here all the way around [Music] i might actually go all the way over here and end it right here so i'll do that right now okay so now we've got to clean up some stuff you can tell that we have some walls that just aren't really conforming well but i am noticing some water issues so i'm going to pause it for a quick beat take a look at our budget and let's just crank this for a minute whoa our power budget is through the roof too i'm going to take that down because we're over producing power so we're burning money what's going to turn our roads budget back to 100 this should help out quite a bit okay there we go we're good okay so these two endpoints didn't actually connect so we're getting some weird stuff going on so i think we're just going to redraw this we'll do it straight yep and it'll curve it for us anyway which is perfect and over here i think we're just gonna extend the earth out a little bit can i get that to blend a bit there we go and as we do this we should go through and make sure that we don't have any lumpies and bumpies around the outside because we don't want to see that that the earth poking up there what i just like to do is go around and use move it finding places where the walls look a little bit low and using objects surrounding that are approximately the height you want the wall to be and use that align it to that object height i think most of the rest of this is pretty good the main question we have now is what is the value of this and the value of this is that we can add pedestrian facilities to kind of flank this area and make connections so i don't want to use these ones that terraform like that so what we're going to do is just use our standard pedestrian connections and try to find places you know where we can make some targeted pedestrian connections so i do have anarchy on and one of the reasons i like that is i'm able to go through and line it up pretty nicely with the wall so i'm going to run this in the back of these properties run it over and it already made the connection for us that's that's nice but i want to formalize that connection just in case there we go very nice one connection down many to go so i'm going to pause this because we're going to have an opportunity in just a minute that's not going to come back you see that as i'm doing this i'm getting zoning in some of these areas and that's a great benefit to us we're going to have all these new areas that we can zone and i want to take advantage of that okay so the next thing that we need to do is get our zoning back and there are a couple ways that you can do this the way that i found to be the most convenient for me is to just go through grab a road and just kind of upgrade roads keep your collision off hopefully we don't have trees popping up we're just going to upgrade this and as you go through and upgrade it you'll see that your zoning comes too and we did unfortunately get a number of trees coming up maybe i will turn collision on just and hope for the best hopefully we don't destroy a bunch of homes and look at this we got a couple wonky areas but for the most part we're in a much better spot uh with our zoning so i'm i'm very happy with how this turned out i don't know what's going on here i wonder if this is our zoning toolkit yeah i just broke it so the other thing that this could be if we come here and look at our heights yeah there's a little bit of a difference here and noticing that there are a couple locations where we still do not have our object heights right and this is one of those little things that i think makes all the difference in the world let's see if that improved anything for us and it did so now we have zoning here it was just a weird height issue so one of those things to take a look at all right so this is going to be a real thriving and bustling place and uh another another height issue i'm guessing okay so now i think we're good uh so like i was saying i think this is gonna be a really thriving and bustling place once we get everything completed here but we just wanna get everything right because we're not gonna have a second chance at this and in fact speaking of second chances we probably should have taken a look at this area before we fixed everything because we had an opportunity when there were some gaps in here to run some pads through some cut throughs and we missed that opportunity and now you can see that these blocks have all filled in right here there was an opportunity to come through and maybe make a connection somewhere else it's a really long block this is basically two blocks so having a pedestrian crossing there would have been a really exceptional but we didn't do that so we're gonna have to live with what we've created interestingly i'm thinking a little bit this is an interesting street we could have probably instead of having such a long drive created a street connection here yeah i'm gonna do that i'm gonna call my first mulligan unless you consider this all mulligans in which case i'm just calling another one so i put i'll put this here and then i'm going to change my zoning to keep everything nice and straight make sure we're not zoning here or there and then we'll resume this now we've created another block so that is a good thing in my in my opinion very good very good so one thing we need to do here is think about landscaping this has created a very special pedestrian way i wish that we could sneak a path through here in reality but probably beg for an easement and get rejected because what homeowner in their right mind would go yeah i'd like to have strangers walking next to my house that sounds fun i mean someone i'm i'm probably one that might depending so i do think we have a slight opportunity here uh to have trees growing out of our roads obviously that's the opportunity [Laughter] i just need to be really careful whenever i turn off uh when i go into anarchy and i i select road collision i always create issues i should probably just never do it so what i'm going to do here now i noticed that we could potentially have some zoning so interestingly i can just go through and upgrade these and it's adding zoning along here which is what i was hoping for here we go so i just want to throw in a couple more commercial properties and maybe even some residential properties in here and i think we might use our first higher density zoning now i know that they're getting a lot of the same building but it's going to be fine this will we're going to make it very targeted and not do all that much to interrupt the flow of this area let's speed this up for a second watch it build out we're burning we are burning well we're about to add more kindling to the fire because it's landscaping and i was waiting for this to uh to build out a little bit so i could add some landscaping why wait the time is now so i'm going to be very judicious with my use of landscaping here the primary reason is i know that people aren't going to want to have a bunch of trees blocking their view of the water that said i think that it's very important that we have some landscaping here so we'll get some near the path connections all right this is this is pretty good so i would love to get some small bushes back here and i think that that's all you could really get away with would be something smaller you know what i'm gonna skip it i just think that you'd fight tooth and nail you might get a couple of trees back here but the bushes they're not gonna be anything regular so maybe you get a couple of trees in between homes okay and i mixed up the trees a little bit here that so we have a little bit of species variety learned that from my wife and uh we're watching a small fire here at this mansion just uh added some added some landscaping to jazz it up so i know that we need some water and i think that we could use this triangular parcel as a place to either get in one of our lovely pumping stations so this is a little bigger than i it's one of those things i could probably get that back here this is a city-owned lot already makes sense to have it back here by the municipal parking good access to everything so why not all right away too so we'll go right through the parking lot hopefully that puts us in a place where we can back off a little bit on our water sewage treatment will continue to be a bit of an issue okay but we've taken our budget down let's see sewage treatment we should probably take care of that right away after we replace a bit of this landscaping and hide this a little bit with some with uh some smaller foliage there we go just what this guy wants to who's gonna he's gonna work on this the door is covered there we go it's the little things the little details speaking of which there we go little details it makes me happy it it uh it brings a lot to the game in my opinion and you can see that the down this it's not downtown but it is feeling much more bumpies it's feeling much more downtown like and uh i really like the way that this has turned out down here except for this [Music] now i really like the way it's turned out just had to back that up a bit and we're getting some pedestrian activity back here we got some it's not overwhelming certainly not overwhelming but some at least it's a place where you could observe the water and it's a water body that we haven't named yet but that's something i think i want to do at least this area we're going to call this the ashland bay if you have an idea for the name of the greater water body the name of the ocean please drop it in the comments i want to know i want a good name for it so we're gonna we're gonna leave courthouse square after naming this and oh we cannot have myrtle square square that uh we're asking for trouble there where this go where is this little district now go away myrtle right near the fire we know what is up there so the load on this building is terrible i'm gonna see if i can yeah i might need to remove that building i don't like the way that loads in at all we'll see anyway back to it so what i want to do is look at this area and imagine it as a grand park so we're going to create a park there right now this will be ashland beach and there's a lot of neat things that i think we can do here we're going to need some patience and one of the things that i'm losing patience with is this landfill so i've tried to empty it it for some reason will stop emptying we're going to do the the cheat way of of of resolving our issue with that just delete it so we're going to make these folks over here landfill employees i assume we're now out of work yeah she she is an attendant to the pharmacy what are we doing at the wow yeah you're unemployed cedric young is unemployed works at the at the busy corner shop unemployed so i don't know exactly why these folks felt the need to be at the dump but they were there so unfortunately we just uh made their day a little bit harder all right so at the beach i've got a couple of things that i want to do first i don't want to deal with any tree issues so we're going to go through and remove basically all the trees in this area there we go three of trees not something i like so we're going to have a hotel over here i want to have kind of a some sort of wall separating the beach from the flatlands we're gonna have a forested area up here thinking some fishing piers maybe uh some shops and then i want to have a marina so a lot of different things to think about and along with that we're going to do a little bit of i guess making this feel a little bit more active and maybe even developing this area so a lot to get to all in short order so i picked up this great hotel ass asset that i love it's the beach hotel we're gonna place that right here and that is in the wrong direction in my humble opinion oh yeah that is nice so what we're going to do i want to have a road kind of leading into the hotel so i think we're going to take this cobblestone lane we've got anarchy on so we can do whatever we want much better so now this is all lining up we can align this to the same height one thing that we could do if we really wanted to go the next level with this would be to go ahead come in here make sure that we don't have any street lamps or anything and maybe we're going to do that okay just knowing that i'm not going to do anything with the road names right now i just i wanted to get those off i am noticing we have a lot of crosswalks and i do want to make a quick change we're going to hide some of these arrows road signs and the level crossings intersection markings just right here there we go cleans that up so it's a little bit more natural looking people can cross right here that's fine we don't need two sets of markers truthfully even here i'm a little dubious on it but i'll let that one slide so interestingly the hotel kind of spills over here a bit onto the sidewalk which is kind of neat aesthetic so one of the reasons i wanted the hotel in the park area is i have a pool asset that i want to use that i know won't work unless it's in a park area or on a roadside roadside interestingly it's upset that i don't have a park gate so there we go we're going to add that pool there i also need a road this is clearly a garbage dumpster area so we're going to need some sort of service road to reach that and i think that the road i want to use is going to be our drive from the parking lot roads set now i'm going to try to line this up so i have not none of my guides on right now except for angle let's get that on much better much much better i'm just going to line this up and we'll end it actually by this trash area we don't need this to go any further than there very nice very nice and this i think we're going to want some sort of fencing around it so let's look for the perfect fence truthfully i think the perfect fence might be one of our vanilla fences this park fence is so incredibly useful and i sometimes like to turn my grid on for this sort of thing you're going to see why in a second so i'm able to really get a nice straight fence i don't mind overshooting it because i can eliminate these oddball areas so the other thing i'm going to do is leave an opening because we're going to want to be able to get to the beach at some point so we're in a pretty darn good spot with this the one thing that you can see is clearly missing is any concrete we've always got a solution for that uh so i'm going to try it in the patreon someone did pose the question am i worried about reaching the no limit and i truly am so i'm going to try to use this a little bit more sparingly than i have been so what that means is bigger segments and trying to use this straight segment more than anything else okay so the rest of this except for around the edges i think i can use surface painter for so i'm just kind of gonna fill around the edges get close i think over here we could leave it if we really wanted to but i would think that this would be paved all right lots of concrete right by the beach so that's not a big deal because we're going to use our planters and we're going to continue to use these we'll bring it down to one and really liven this place up with some landscape i'm realizing what a fool's errand it is to try to get this spacing right myself especially when i have prop line tool and can do all of the dirty work in that tool so we'll throw our anarchy on and accept increase our spacing maybe 32 that's actually quite far so we'll go 12. okay so i wanted to move that one that was in front of the crosswalk clearly not ada accessible if we have it like that and back here i think we'll throw in something tropical so we'll have this in planters now don't ask me what they do with those palms in the winter it's probably overdone but that's okay you know we love our palm trees even though it's a temperate climate and now let's think a little bit more about what other types of decorations we'd expect to see here and i think that really it's it's some normal trees we don't want to completely block the views of the ocean but we certainly want to have some other sort of tree here we need to load up our planters too okay i like that i think this is looking really good so i do think we're going to want to throw a couple of bushes down along the side of this drive i would imagine that the city says you know clearly this is a drive aisle we're not going to want to have all of these beach goers looking at your garbage truck entering we're going to require very thick landscaping there we go and you can see some but not everything and that's exactly what we wanted that is beautiful what a lovely asset so i do want to take a couple quick peeks at this we got seven visitors that's uh that's a little disappointing hopefully things get better so i want to add one point we're gonna make this spawn point i wonder nope can't just drag it there we go so that is the perfect spot for this in my mind and our little hotel is done the ashland beach motel that and that would be beautiful you're sitting here by the pool you got a wonderful view of the water just for the time being we'll see if we will see if we maintain that so now i kind of want to get started on this beach i wanted to put this down first because this is a really critical part of what we're doing here but it's not everything that we're doing here so i picked up this really fun key wall and since we have key anarchy on we can use it so this key wall right here i think we're just going to extend it over so we have this and i'll take a look at this in just a second and show you how nice of an asset it is but i want to think about how i'm going to measure this what i think we're going to do we're going to turn on our road guideline for a second right in the center i want to open this up we'll open it up four units in either direction all right so you might be looking at this wondering what in the heck am i doing well i've got some ideas so this is going to be the height of our land and we're going to drop the beach down in fact i think i want to bring this over a little bit too and this will be the edge of our beach and i think it's going to turn out really really interestingly okay so we've got some work to do so here's what we're gonna do we're gonna go through and we're gonna do a whole bunch of terraforming which is always a little bit scary but we need to we need a bigger beach so i'm gonna go on this so when we look at our lines you can tell that this line is just a notch above the water so this is going to be our beach height and we'll bring more sand in if if bill gates can bring sand from hawaii to his house in seattle i think that we can bring some sand from other parts of ashland into the city it's completely rational in my mind interestingly there's something happening here that is preventing me from doing what i want to do no worries moving things just a little bit did the trick so we need to get out of here and run this fast to let the water do its thing now you might be wondering would the city ever look at this project as something that's feasible and reasonable and i think that it would this would be a significant tourist attraction and a significant public amenity for the city obviously we've got a cliff here we'll deal with that in just a second but now we've let the water clear out a bit no no no no no no well i guess i guess this is what we get for planting trees well at least uh ashland's finest right here trying to do something but man what a fire and i don't think that we have fire helicopters so we're kind of just in a rough spot see if we can qualify for fire helicopters we can so let's get this placed somewhere because we are in dire straits where somewhere might be might actually be along this area there we go this is not the flattest area it's not the most perfect i think we might need to level out some things to make this work and we are going to want some sort of landscape buffer here i think that we're going to try to try to be a little uh judicious with this though yeah that'll that'll be good enough we will uh learn from some of our lessons how are things looking over here yeah you know crispy but it could have been a lot worse it could have been a lot worse so back to what we were doing so i think i just went a little bit too intense on the brush and the platinum on the slope tool okay so the main problem huh i should have just been kept terraforming because that'll uh that'll take out that fire in fact there's no better place to have a fire uh so what i wanted to make sure that i was doing was creating a large enough beach and interestingly i i realized quickly on that the problem i was having is i wasn't um so i wasn't actually extending out you gotta overshoot where you want the beach to end and that's what i wasn't doing so now we're gonna add some sand you can imagine the sand going up a little bit beyond this very good okay so this is what i was hoping for now we are in a spot that's pretty good in my mind so i kind of just want to raise this up to create that relief we'll lower it over here and remember this is a pedestrian network so we're gonna need to have targeted connections so that's gonna be very important and i wanna take a look at the terrain now you can fill some of this in some wonkiness going on with some of the corners here some of that's just raising and lowering this until you get it to a place where it's not breaking all right so now we've got this beautiful beachfront with a little bit of charring we need to set up our gates so let's go back through and i'm thinking that maybe i'm okay with a big park gate here i just really want it to be centered if we're gonna have it look at those cars just load up the parking lot so now and that's actually an interesting thought we don't have any parking for the hotel we're assuming that all of it's taking place there's really no place so i'm gonna steal this asset over here and then maybe we're gonna adjust this accordingly so we've just created some beachfront parking now this is parking that they could clearly direct their their guests to utilize and then i think i'm going to use surface painter again to clean up the edges this is where surface painter is not exactly on its finest behavior when you end up close to a sidewalk it just gets a little wonky it's like we'll probably just leave it and let good enough be good enough right here even though we just had a major fire and landscaping is still important and we are going to continue to place it myrtle will not dissuade me there we go so i think that we would want to have some sort of path connection here we're gonna we're gonna have a number of pads that we place at this point so we've got one there we're gonna add one straight into that area and let's actually go through and we'll do our propolis paths we'll bring that right down using our angle that is terrible so why don't we think about that again so i i did want to use the propolis path they just don't look as good as some of these other ones that we have so we're just gonna have those there and we need to clean up our sand the sand looks really weird around the edge of these pads that looks a lot better so i'm gonna i'm gonna have another another few paths through here just kind of recreational facilities whoa that people could utilize to get around we're gonna leave this wide open i don't think anyone really cares to walk around here maybe you know well we'll have we'll have one what i'm trying to do here is just give people options for recreational facilities recreational walking or running you imagine this is a very scenic place if you could have a few different options for running you would take it and then we are going to try to get a path up here this one's going to be a little more challenging i think we might need to call a mulligan on this shoreline just a little bit give ourselves enough space to operate get this thing to sneak down this way this would be a beautiful coastal run only problem is it's not flat so we're gonna need to do a little bit of that on our own these are the pads that assume that uh you have someone grading for you creating your paths and we all know how much i like to do that that that's not not very much at all i'd like to just leave it [Laughter] so that's better i think that we're in a in a spot that uh i can feel comfortable leaving this so you might wonder how are people going to get down to the beach right now they're walking you see them there you are this is elsa crowley she's a senior she's unemployed and she's going to the holly residence elsa that's a long walk she's going to the neighborhood shop yet she is wow she's at the beach okay well that's the scenic route so what i want to do to try to encourage some activities using these invisible pedestrian paths um i'm curious though can i upgrade i can so what that tells me is to first create a bunch of normal paths down here first we've also got to make another path connection out here and we're going to make some pads through the beach now i want these to feel natural so i'm going to have them kind of curving around i'm not going to touch it but i'm going to allow that junction to just occur so we don't get any weird tearing when we finally do bring our uh when we do upgrade these to the our clear pads or our invisible pads now these are going to be important for a number of reasons first of all i want to have volleyball so we go through here we have some volleyball and you can see it needs to be on a road again we're getting some wonky height stuff going on and i think i'm just gonna make it worse so this is where move it comes in handy so here's an interesting thing you see that there's some some discoloration around here if you go into into the uh right right here into the surface tool use the last tool and you just color it it gets rid of that i guess this is another way we could have an invisible path we could actually delete our path although we have lights so um that's another option though i i didn't even think to do that interesting so we've got that and i want to have some restroom facilities down here so we used them in the last episode but that's okay we'll use them again so we're going to use our custom restroom and i think this is a really fantastic facility not one that we should paint but certainly one that we could have down here oh that's interesting i can i can actually lower it up and down into this key wall so i was thinking just putting it kind of close to volleyball thinking that you could wash the sand off your feet you use the showers clean up after you're done i might put another one over here as well so i picked up these really neat pergolas that i think we're gonna add down here as well so this will be a spot where you could with your family come and have a picnic in a covered area we'll also have one over here i think that's about as far as we want to go so we have some surfboards and other assets i think that would be really neat to see on the beach this is someone who's getting set up to go wind sailing i have a couple of these i did pick up a surf shop now this is a low density commercial growable i want to have that here but i do need to get zoning there if i want it to stay there we go a little surf shop see the trees are growing back next to it perfect all right so the big and most important part of this whole endeavor is going to be places for people to sit so i've got a number of props and we're just going to kind of sprinkle them throughout the beach so some of these umbrellas in this pack that i have that are aren't working correctly the the load is broken so something to be aware of so these rainbow ones are about the only ones i can get working that's fine i like the way they look i think that uh they look pretty authentic and reasonable not very we're not gonna have a ton of variety i guess i could have these little ones [Laughter] and i could certainly use some of these other uh umbrellas too they're just a little to me they don't fit so and then i got some towels so i've got a couple different assets so i have this one that has three different towels we're just gonna rotate these a bit these people are going to have a tough time with high tide because it's uh going to be a challenge might have a wet towel you can right you can click on the on the right mouse button to kind of rotate these a little bit to give it a little bit more variety so i'm doing that a bit probably not as much as i should nice thing about the single towels is that they change colors the other ones do too i guess not really it's not the same all right so now we need a beach ball so we're gonna throw a couple beach balls down here and some tubes i want these to you know one of the problems i'm not going to have a lot a lot of people down here by not a lot i mean there will be none this is just decoration so i wanted to look like maybe everyone's out swimming maybe that's why there's no activity so we'll even have some lifeguard stations and all of these assets are available in the props are in the in the in the list i have for today's episode but you know most of them are going to be empty unfortunately and then last but not least we need to upgrade these we're going to make them the 16 foot wide path so they'll be extra wide there we go and we've at least simulated some activity now you can see that there are people walking along these paths to get places they're coming down to the beach this guy with his cane he's really excited he's going quickly and uh you know i think someone needs to tell aspen walker which is really an interesting name uh who he resides at the spruce residence i like that that you know maybe this is a weird place to use a cane um you're gonna sink into the sand so a little bit of cleanup around these assets you get this grass shadow we don't want that we don't want that at all and then this probably would have liked some level land we could do that we can facilitate that to get rid of that grass we will just level that out a bit that'll do the trick okay so i think that we've uh done a really good job of making this feel like an active space so again bringing more character and life to the city uh one of the other things that maybe i should have done [Music] so i'm wondering where all these people are going and i think they might just be let's let's speed this up and look oh i guess they're all actually just going to play volleyball which makes perfect sense so we've got a nice little lively beachfront we got people we got activity we are not using our main gate so they're gonna believe that no one's actually here that's okay we will deal we're not gonna deal with this garbage issues dang it this is my fault that is what happens when you go off script and you do something because it feels good and that something was eliminating the dump so i'm going to add one more landfill over here this one is not in a great spot our processing is that's our reserves are almost full there they are almost full there as well we could use a more robust garbage solution for the community but we're not really there in terms of our our finances or our population i guess our finances are fine there we go so cleaned things up a bit and we're doing just fine doing just fine well i'm over here though i did pick up an asset that i want to take a look at but before we get back to the beach so i got this guard rail and i think that this would be very useful to have over here so this is a network asset which is helpful because it means that it just conforms and works like a normal fence and this is just a really steep embankment and that looks bad so it's funny there were two versions of this there was one that i could use move it to lower it so there's this one that you know conforms to completely conforms to the ground and there was another one that didn't and i clearly grabbed the one that is probably not the most useful in this situation this would not be the greatest place to attempt to pull off the road you're not gonna be able to but you will be safe you're going to bounce right back although truthfully these are in the wrong direction you might just say the intent was there the intent was there and the fix is going to be horrible and we're going to break it so i'm going to i'm going to let it be i'm going to let it be so over here i want to do something big so first of all now that we have all of this stuff gone i think that the city would go through and try to reimagine some of the roads in this area we want this to be a special place so we're going to use some of our cobblestone roads that we've loved so much we'll extend these over here i think we're just going to completely re-imagine this area go through an entirely new process and and way of thinking about this so we're gonna reorient our grid this will be the city coming back through after reacquiring or after acquiring all of these properties and thinking how do we make this a special place we won't eliminate the entirety of what used to be here but we are going to eliminate a great deal of it so we've got our invisible pads over here and they're causing us some issues now so i might upgrade these back to being visible pads for the time being just so i know what i'm doing and i don't break them okay so this is kind of what i'm thinking would work well in this area and there's a very specific reason that i'm getting so picky with all of this and i clearly have prop anarchy on because i'm letting everything pop up through it's not my intention okay so the reason i wanted to do this is we're gonna have a pocket of higher density and we're gonna have some fishing piers and and other things that make this place feel special one of the things that we're gonna have that's gonna make the place feel the most special is this here so we have this really neat pier 15 flea market that i think would be a really nice amenity in the downtown and it will fill out our area over here so i want to center this on the road and then i clearly want the height to be reasonable too and right now what i'm thinking about is the view that you get you're in the downtown you're by the post office you look down and there's pier 15 it's the flea market and it's the place that you can't wait to go so i do want to use bob and do one quick thing with this so alt b click on this and i really hate some of the uh crates and different things that are associated with this it doesn't add anything to me it's just a little bit cleaner um i i know truthfully i'm okay getting rid of the tents too and there's this invisible parking spaces i don't want anyone parking there so we're gonna get rid of that as well and we will figure out the parking situation on our own that is slick i love that all right so i do wish that i would have put a key wall here it doesn't need to be fancy it could just be one of our basic key walls so we're going to do that now with anarchy you can do anything so we're going to add that wall into the mix there we go a nice key wall and i think that we're going to try to maintain that over here and then we'll end this at the beach so we've got a little bit of work to do to make this look reasonable there we go took a little bit more and i'm gonna remove some of the sand here because it's just a little extreme and truthfully it's it's in all of these properties as well so it makes perfect sense in my mind to back this out a bit okay so now they all have beach access but not necessarily beach in their backyards perfect so let's get our key wall nice and straight because we're going to be doing some interesting things in just a moment there we go to me this feels good this feels very good the water coming up here doesn't feel good and also the the height of the key wall in some of these areas is a little bit off there we go that's about as good as i'm going to get it so we're going to leave that there and what i want to do is is have some fishing clear so i picked up a really neat asset for this one as well let's take a look so we've got these docks now the interesting thing is these have roads associated with them so we're going to need to take those off so the way that we're going to do this is we're going to use the touch it mod and we're going to select the asset that we want to change this actually might be hard in there in its current location so let's move this and then we'll move it where we want it to be so it wants to be in the park let's put them both right there then we'll go through into here going to touch it and click on this icon click on that and we should be able to just delete that there we go and now we can use move it to move just this rotate this around okay so now with both of these assets we're going to also want to go and take a look at our bob settings and what i'm going to do here is we have these invisible parking and i've already removed this in my in my uh my playthrough but that normally there are cars that spawn in front of this and it's really awful to look at so i would i would highly recommend if you use this prop to get rid of that pop that parking using bob interestingly i thought we had a fishing boat associated with this and now it's gone not the end of the world but it's kind of weird just kind of weird all right so a little bit of a decorating there just to make it look a little bit cleaner the nice thing about these ro this road particular road asset because the sidewalk is different it doesn't get disrupted i can't accidentally delete the sidewalk over here so that's nice all right so this is going to kind of be the centerpiece of this area some fishing docks where there'll be fishermen and women and we have this pier so we're going to also need some parking for this it's maybe not the greatest land use in the world but it is a land use that you would fully expect to see here and we have it and the nice thing is this has connected power to our pier which we weren't expecting to happen so you take the winds where you get them alright so now i want to take this i kind of noticed that this this roadway network's a little bit wonky here so i'd love to clean this up a bit it's just not going to happen that's okay so back to our invisible paths let's get those uh upgraded downgraded i guess depending how you want to look at it and now i want to do a bit of zoning in here and i really want to mix the zoning up so i know that that's controversial but it's what i'm going to do so we're going to have a couple of high density buildings zoned in here and then a whole bunch of lower density a whole bunch of residential now here you can see that the zoning is really wonky so i'm going to go through here and just turn zoning off on a couple of streets and that'll clean things up for me and that's that's all i really want in this area we're gonna do the exact same thing over here and it's not cleaning it up this is part of the remnant of our old network it'll be fine one thing i do know that we i you know we're going to need in this area is parking i know that we have that part that's surface parking but that's not going to be enough so we're going to add a parking lot again i'm looking at places where maybe zoning doesn't matter all that much and eliminating zoning there because when you do that you consolidate it on these other streets and you get more density you can see that now we have this very whoa we're a small city overnight that was wild we went and gained a bunch of population very quickly we're getting lots of transit that isn't necessarily appropriate here just yet but it's still very interesting we get some more policies uh we get trains that's huge that's huge so that's the one thing that uh you know the region's gonna need if we come back to ashland it's gonna be for trains and that's it's going to be for trains so that would be the reason so i did go through and i modified a couple of the uh a couple of the building themes we just didn't have a lot of variety so i added some vanilla buildings in not 100 sold on all of them just yet wow that's cool you look over here and that's what you see that mural that feels authentic i like that jimmy jazz all right and we're getting this dense downtown you can imagine that this block is likely a candidate for redevelopment doesn't necessarily need to be you know this higher density stuff but it could certainly be some lower density attached buildings i don't think that this makes a ton of sense anymore in this area but it's there we're going to leave it we are going to get water pipes underneath our roads because we're struggling you can see that this is following our old right-of-way which would have been released at this point and obviously we would have needed to recreate that right-of-way this whole area would have been re-platted and it would have been quite the endeavor this isn't a uh i just decided to to redo this runway network and make it great overnight sort of thing this is a the city came up with a plan and it took 50 years to implement and it's now done and everyone's everyone that started on this is gone but uh the current planners and current citizens really thank them for having the vision to do something that you know really they're never gonna see i think that takes a special kind of person uh to be able to do that you know i i will admit readily that it is hard in my profession when you're working on a project that you know you're never going to see the results of it at one point i remember working at a place where i wanted to increase connectivity but i was never gonna see that happen it's never my career you've got to put yourself in a certain mindset be able to make that happen okay so we're filling in a bit here it certainly adds some landscaping to to make this feel a little bit more complete and i've been loving this little regular bush i might just add this in a few different places here right that feels good you just got density coming up along the coast it's blocking up some of these view corridors or some of the views that some of these low-density homes had but you'd fully expect that this land is valuable the city just created a really interesting tax-based opportunity for themselves and really improved its tax base uh by allowing this density here so last but not least i we need to add some trees here i was going to create a marina i'm not necessarily sold on that right now in fact i think that this is probably good enough and maybe we'll hold off on the marina until we get to another community so here i'm just trying to to define this or kind of fill in this space a little bit i think with these grasses you could kind of outline some of these okay so the look i wanted to go for here was kind of a natural area that has been tamed a little bit with some paths and maybe even the nature reserve pads but it worked a little bit better in here but i want it to feel like a natural beach that you you're going up here and it's a little bit tame but it's very very natural just been left to its own devices and it feels good because of that it feels like you got a little bit of nature right in the city so i really really like the way this turned out i think it's slick i hope that you like that too so let me know in the comments though and then at the very end of this episode we're at the end we uh we're in ashland ashland is feeling like it's own little we've got more we've got the the jane goodall institute don't sleep on your education another verde beach morning mulligans with phil of that and then verde beach and interestingly this is kcpp which means that we are west of the mississippi right so i want this to be somewhere deep in the city so every now and then you end up with a billboard that you're like how did that end up there well that was because someone back when this was a little town that didn't have any rules decided to put a billboard up and keep it and it upsets everyone right now but it still exists there's nothing that anyone can do about it so we've got this one it's gonna be right here and it's gonna upset everyone but it's gonna tell them you know eminent domain solves all next let's get regain our bearings we're over here we are telling everyone to go to verde beach on the other side we're saying verde beach again the verde beach tourism board is working overtime letting everyone know verde beach is where it's at [Laughter] and here's another one so you might wonder why i'm moving it and the reason for that is these need to be on a road to be placed [Music] but once you have them off a road you can move it so these are going to make their way into verde beach as well actually this one we're going to move we want this one on the way out of town because we want you to remember on your way out of town like subscribe and leave a comment on your way in you should be thinking about you know you could head to verde beach so the other thing is this is insinuating that verde beach is that way it's that way or at least the airport is [Laughter] so i'm very happy one very last thing i want to do i want to create a beach atmosphere along here as well and then kind of bring a road along this way to show that the city doesn't just have a random road over here it's not just this isn't a road just for the ashland family it's actually for all the wealthy families let's turn off our angle we'll get this right here and then we're gonna have some low density zoning so we will need water pipes here [Music] no problem and we have our prop anarchy on so our roads are all crazy we'll get those fixed and then i want to make sure that our district is correct then we'll need to use a little bit of eminent domain here there we go so what i want to do here is add some privacy fences we're going to do this kind of in a line just going down we'll turn all of these off so there'll be a deed restriction on these three homes they're not able to put in a fence they have to share their frontage so that's why we're not giving them their privacy fence and i'm sure that that would come in right at time of development they would see that there's really not a good way sort of giving them all like 10 feet or something ridiculous so interestingly i can't get this on the water no matter what type of anarchy i'm using so if i want to get these closer to the water i'm just gonna have to use move it at the end of the world i don't think it necessarily needs to be closer we're not gonna allow these folks to privatize the waterfront in that way actually interesting these are supposed to be mansions but they're not okay so now we have all of this you might wonder what are we gonna do now well everyone needs a dock or at least some of the people need a dock and it's not gonna be an extravagant one just one that gets us out into the water so now i'm going to copy this and we're just going to add this sort of dock to a couple of different properties a number of different depths right now i just want to have a couple of other things that make this come to life so we've got some boards and probably the most important part you're going to have docs boats so we're going to give a lot of these folks sailboats they're not they're certainly affluent but they're not yacht people like the ashlands so we they they know their role in that way and then we'll get some of the motor boats as well just a nice kayak so we just something to bring some life into this area and you can see that now it seems like they're using all of this coast that they have available to them and that feels a lot better to me it feels a lot more natural so i'm going back and forth on that whole marina idea the one thing that i really wanted to get in was i'll show you i had this really neat marina club so i think i might work this in okay this is just too cool of an asset not to use it so what this is is it's a club and oh it's not right it's not right i've gotta fix this so i'm gonna bring these all up together okay so this is a restaurant and pier and i do need to restrict parking a bit on here either way this is crazy the amount of parking that we have occurring in this in this area but it's a restaurant it's up here you can imagine this being a very lively spot to be hmm so i'm just looking to see what boat would actually fit here and it's none of them the yacht maybe i guess you could go on to the second story so ultimately what you'd need to get this to work is to lower the lower this down the whole coast considering that's not going to be in the cards it might just eliminate this and leave it as kind of a sightseeing pier for now we'll figure the rest out later so we'll just leave it like that it's just a restaurant a place to come and hang out we've got to get rid of those cars in this road even if it's the last thing that we do no parking on that side of the road perfect and uh this is hopping this is crazy there's so much activity down here completely changes the way that ashland feels in my mind and uh for the better for the better so a couple more trees and then we're going to call it a day and call it some time on ashland so it feels like tmpe is really uh doing some things with parking in this area because you can see it every now and then recalculating and recalibrating this area it's been interesting watching that happen but i think i think we're about done and boy this feels different feels way different i love it i really really like it i think it's really neat so ashland it's uh it's been real but i think it's it's time to move on uh one more bit of landscaping these folks are not gonna deal with everyone looking in there we go that's a little more believable in my mind yeah yeah that that's good so we've got a bustling city and uh we're ready to go on to the next place we've got really healthy residential demand which is gonna help us in our next city so i apologize that this was a little bit of a longer one but i really wanted
