CAN I BEAT A POKÉMON SOULSILVER HARDCORE NUZLOCKE WITH ONLY DARK TYPES!? (Pokémon Challenge)

welcome everyone my name is soph and this is my attempt to beat a hardcore nuzlocke of pokemon soul silver with only dark type pokemon the four wheel set for this run is listed down below but put simply only the first dark type encounter in each root or area can be caught if a pokemon faints it must be permanently boxed no items except held items in battle party pokemon levels are limited to the next gym leader or the final league member's ace and finally the battle mode must be put on set at all times heart gold and souls over perhaps the greatest pokemon remakes of all time and well it's looking like it might stay that way if i'm honest today we're going to be attempting a run that has never been done before and there's good reason for this the encounters are just an absolutely crazy situation but i think i've found a way to make it possible there are a lot of dark types available in the entirety of these remakes however a lot of them are limited to the post game and on the face of it it seems impossible to complete a run since the first available dark type seems to be umbreon around the 4th gem but there is an entirely legitimate way of circumventing that and i can't wait for the challenge speaking of challenges before we get into it i'd like to introduce you to a game that has been incredibly fun and challenging for me in my down time frag pro shooter the sponsor oak had such big okay let me rephrase that why is that pokeball so big uh i love naming myself with all capitals it's like everyone is yelling my name all the time are you ready it's time to pick our starter and with no dark types here and all of them having neutral typings against dark anything is fair game so i decided to go with my least pick jodo starter cyndaquil who i nicknamed sugar ray we're going to use him for just a bit of the game intro and you'll see why sylph i want you to have these to help with your task oh well thank you what these nuts [Music] hi mr pokemon i oh oh my i i'm sorry i i didn't know after setting silver's stolen pokemon on fire we get framed by him and the police are after us it wasn't me i swear it was no papa before we set off on our journey we say goodbye to our mom and i want to remind you guys if you guys are doing your own run in these games to have her save your money trust me she can actually send you some great items with it here we go on our adventure you can't climb ledges listen i can do whatever the i want this guy's all sad about not being able to light up the dark cave and well look what we have a pokemon that's literally on fire all right never mind i still can't see sh we quickly arrive in violet city the location of the first gym but where in the world are we gonna get a dark tie itself i'm glad you asked we're gonna use none other than the pokey walker which thankfully has two dark types available to us early in game the first comes from an in-game location called the suburban area where with 500 watts we can find a level 11 murkrow a very cool pokemon in my opinion i nicknamed him revan and revan has a quiet nature plus special attack and minus speed which is pretty damn bad and we also got the insomnia ability instead of super luck which raises critical hit ratios so not the best start but hey this singular encounter makes the run possible in the first place with a viable dark encounter obtained it's time to box sugar ray oh god no wait wait i mean this one goodbye old friend the sprout tower provides some amazing training for revan as not only are the bellsprout weak to us but they also give attack evs right before the elder i'm realizing with murkrow obtained at level 11 there's no way we can face him with revan alone and not past the level cap so sugar ray call it a comeback i just send him out into battle before immediately switching to revan who's able to sweep through the elders pokemon with relative ease and remain at the level cap of 13. nice it's time for the violet gym which always saves us because we can skip right past all the trainers the first gym leader is faulkner a flying type trainer and i'm not sure how to feel about our chances but there's not much we can do with only one pokemon but go for it he leaves with a pidgey and i go for pursuit right away but it barely doesn't kill on what must be like one hp then he hits us with sand attack thankfully our attack pulls through to take him out and we get the level up keep in mind hardcore nuzlocke rules allow you to level up mid battle you just have to be at or below the level cap when it starts in comes his final pokemon pidgeotto and we outspeed with pursuit for about a quarter before he hits a tackle we then miss our next attack though and he uses a roost oh no our lowered accuracy plus his pidgeotto being able to get roost recovery more than we're able to do damage results in a brutal back and forth and in the end there was just no hope as he takes us down with a third health left this is gonna be tricky as for the rules we're forced to wipe to the start of the game so see you when we get back attempt number two and i'm feeling a little bit better we have a new murkrow which i named revan ii and this is his dark side variant you star wars fans out there will know what i'm talking about revan was initially a jedi but grew stronger with the dark side and hopefully our murkrow does the same we got a neutral nature this time and our attack seems to be slightly higher iv'd so let's see if we can make this happen i thought with our higher attack we'd ko the pidgey but nope again just barely survives and hits us with sand attack before we can take him down we hit pidgeotto like last time and then he uses gust for a quarter before we actually hit him again this time and this time he didn't use roost huh another pursuit then brings him to literally one hp we get hit down to 15 hp but because we can out speed we can then just take him out alrighty then that works first badge acquired and we get the roost tm2 which is great for us up ahead we can grab the rock smash hm and i went back to route 29 to find an hm pokemon and found a shiny pidgey out of nowhere we've definitely found some shinies before in our runs but i think this has to be the earliest one ever i catch it and nickname it c3po because well he's golden after catching a rattata we can officially use rock smash and i head to the ruins of alps to smash the rocks here yes you can get fossils here but you can also get shards which you can then head to this berrydude and violet to exchange them for amazing berries including citrus berries if you get the right color pretty amazing for early game up ahead we can also grab the shell bell item for recovery and we arrive at union cave now we have a problem here revan is getting over leveled and quickly thankfully we have a saving grace our second and final dark pokemon we can get from the pokewalker it offers a special event location called rally which has a really cool encounter for us sableye which is available after 1000 steps at level 15. we catch one and nickname it treya and treya has a hasty plus speed and minus defense nature she has the keen eye ability so its accuracy can't be lowered and treya helps with the xp load a lot and also allows us to battle effectively against rock types with nightshade which otherwise might have been a problem our journey brings us to azalea town which has some team rocket shenanigans going on and our good buddy kurt says that he's gonna go give them a lesson in pain he then proceeds to fall down the slowpoke well and breaks his back uh how'd that lesson go my friend treya ends up being amazing against the rockets with her normal immunity and poison resistance what a monster man these poor slowpokes having their cut off what tails i i said tails don't know why they decided to bleep that weirdos with that it's time for the second gem the bug type azalea gym normally we have a bit of trouble here but revan learned wing attack recently which performs amazingly through the trainers however we have an issue a big one there's a double battle up ahead that is forced because we have to flick the switch and revan is already too high leveled the only way we can avoid it is by not having two pokemon so oh boy i'm forced to deposit treya and only bring revan to make it to the next gym leader bugsy bugsy only really has one threat against us but it's a big one his lead scyther he goes for focused energy on his first turn then super effective wing attack does big damage but he has a citrus berry he then hits us with quick attack but thankfully no crit and another wing attack takes him down just barely even after his berry that could have been terrifying if he had used u-turn which would have been neutral on us but i did have roost which we could have used to heal since he'd have to switch into either kokuna or metapod which was my initial plan regardless we got lucky with his move choices and the damage range from there both his kokuna and metapod are easy one hikeos with wing attack for the win nerve-wracking after that focused energy though that's for sure before leaving the town silver challenges us to battle and i really have to watch the level cap here as it only goes up by 2 to 19 which revan is already at he leads with a ghastly and i lead with revan for the instant ko with pursuit in comes crocona and i hit him twice with wing attack merely for the damage he hit his second scary face so this confirmed what i was gonna do anyway switch to treya here to share the xp and were able to take him down with nightshade after getting hit by one water gun his final pokemon is zubat and i tried to flinch him with astonish but it didn't work twice in a row so we got hit with a 55 accuracy supersonic but thankfully we made it through for a third hit and the ko not bad leading into the azalea forest this old lady says stay out of mischief looking at the pokemon we're with you're not going to listen to her are you after catching the farfetch'd we're given the cut hm and i quickly rushed back to their house to test something and how did you guys get back here before me lots of people don't know this but if you come back here the kid actually gives you the charcoal item which i have a feeling will be useful for later goodness gracious are you okay my dude interestingly sableye learns headbutt of all moves so i teach it to her for some extra damage output i'd have imagined the sableye would just kind of fly through objects that dried the headbutt but i digress at the end of the forest the kimono girl is looking for the exit and i was about to tell her but oh yeah follow that thing why don't you the creepy demented ghost through the dark forest real smart avoiding all the trainers i can we arrive in goldenrod city where the next gym is i decide to hit up the department store to grab some tms like protect for a particular reason it's time for the goldenrod gym a normal type gym and treya is perfect here being immune to all their stab moves although we did have a challenging time with a snubble due to it having intimidate and bite but we pulled through before the gym leader i make sure to teach treyarch the protect tm we bought and something occurs to me i head north of goldenrod to route 35 where we can grab the payback tm which not only gives us same type attack bonus or stab but also doubles in damage if used after the opponent moves after theory crafting for this battle this might be our only hope the third gym leader is the infamous whitney and she leads with the clefairy as i send out revan i hit it with wing attack for over half but her q charm ability activates uh-oh she uses mimic and then we're unable to move on the next turn so she hits us with wing attack but it doesn't do too much and thankfully we're able to move on the next turn to take it out and get some shell bell recovery her last pokemon is miltank and this thing is terrifying you might think treya is a go-to here but don't forget that she has this crappy ability meaning she can hit ghost types with normal stab moves we got hit below half with stomp before hitting her with wing attack and her shell bell brought us just above half so i went for another attack and she hit us down to just 2 hp with stomp and we flinched absolutely brutal i'm forced to switch now so in comes treya and whitney went for rollout exactly what i was hoping for since we can cancel the chain with protect if it starts getting too strong but then she misses her next one as i hit her heart with payback on the next turn she then hits us with stomp and we flinch again oh no another hit brings us to just 14 hp before our bury but we flinch again another stop brings us to just 8 hp thanks to our barry and double power payback is able to do the job honestly payback is the only way we could have done substantial damage so i am very grateful it was available this early third badge the police are after me again and this time i have a creepy demon hiding behind me totally not conspicuous this guy in the gate says i cannot take bug types uh okay if you said i can't stand bug types i'd understand but take that is a uh weird choice of words my dude talk about conspicuous up ahead we can grab the quickclaw and the dig tm from the secret fence entrance as well as the sooth bell which is going to be very important shortly alright i have something written here in my script about using the squirt bottle on sudowudo but i am not saying this out loud so moving on we next arrive in ecruteak city and heading to the pokemon center we encounter bill the creator of the pc and he has something very important for us if we go back to his house in goldenrod now he gives us none other than an eevee as a gift our next encounter i nicknamed him crait and crait has a hasty plus speed and minus defense nature i make sure to put the sooth bell on him right away to race his friendship going east of ecritique to route 42 we can find the shadow claw tm amazing for treya since she doesn't learn it until level 39 by level up our next objective is not dying in the burn tower and not because this place is three seconds from collapsing on itself but because no papa is here and he's very angry that we even looked at the legendaries below the only real difference here was magnemite but we had rock smash on treya which helps and croc and i used scary face which only powered up our payback further so we managed quite well the equity gym is up next and although we have a type advantage here i've definitely learned not to underestimate it revan absolutely annihilates all the trainers with pursuit though as he's a surprisingly fast unevolved pokemon with a 91 base speed he also learned assurance which i replaced pursuit with since ai opponents have rarely switched anyway before the gym leader i decided to teach him the taunt tm we got as i feel that might be very helpful moving forward the fourth gym leader is morty the ghost trainer he leads with a ghastly and assurance is an immediate one-hit ko it comes his gengar next and here is the key normally his pokemon are terrifying because they can out speed and put you to sleep but revan has insomnia so he can't do that the best he can do is resisted shadow ball which does almost exactly half then assurance brings him to a quarter before his berry and our berry brings us above half so i think we can survive another and we do which is 2 hp left closer than i thought before we can then ko him i thought he'd go for hypnosis at some point but did he somehow know that we had insomnia now if my calcs are correct the speed tier is very close with his haunters so i decide to play it safe by switching into treya who gets hit by two nightshades in a row before payback obliterates him his final pokemon comes out a higher level haunter and here i go for priority shadow sneak we learned recently and it actually ko's amazing stuff our travels bring us to the pokeathlon dome where i was hoping for an amazing team development but upon doing further research i found out that yes the dust stone can be obtained here but only after you get the national decks and the same goes for the bug catching contest too there is no way to get it before the post game well that certainly throws a wrench into my plans authente i am not in the mood right now well hopefully this guy will help us and don't even ask me how to pronounce his name he's gonna let us know when the safari zone is open which might help our odds a bit upon arriving in olivine we can pick up the good rod from this dude which is gonna be crucial for an encounter of ours later while traveling to the next town we can grab the plug tm which i'm actually gonna teach to revin since it has the same power as a wing attack but with the additional benefit of stealing berries too we arrive in cienwood city one of the most nostalgic places in pokemon for me for some reason and hey hey buddy sorry for scaring you earlier i i hope you're okay it's time for the cnw gym a fighting type gym now on the face of it fighting seems terrifying being super effective against the type that we're working with but one of our pokemon is a part flying type which is super effective against it and the other is part ghost which is immune to it so a very interesting type dynamic as revit is able to sweep through the trainers with relative ease with that being said the gym leader chuck is a different story his team is still brutal for us after theory crafting for a while i think i've found out our only option but it's very risky he leaves with a prime ape and i leave with revan i was hoping for the ko here with pluck but prime ape just barely survives and uses double team he then hyper potions and we miss our next pluck but we can out speed on the next turn to bring him back to the red then he uses super effective rock slide but as i thought we survive on just 13 hp and can ko him on the next turn in comes an even bigger threat poliwrath surf is a two-hit ko on both our pokemon so i can't switch but here's part of my plan i out-speed him and use roost then he tried hypnosis not knowing that we're insomnia well that answers that question i then use pluck which steals and uses his citrus berry and then he hits us with a body slam to below half pluck did just barely less than half though so i decided to just kind of spam roost until he uses body slam again not surf as we could get to a point we can survive two of them he keeps using surf though so it's too risky i know the ai randomly selects moves when we're within ko range so i just go for pluck we don't get the hyrule though but he went for focus punch so it was a free hit however he now hyper potions but this time our pluck gets a slightly higher roll so we might be able to do it now and we do oh man that was way too close for comfort but we did it after getting the fly hm from chuck's wife i use it on c-3po as i'm not sure i want to get rid of pluck on revan just yet ah a shiny pokemon flying us around just beautiful after curing amphi atop the olivine lighthouse we get an important call for once as informs us that the safari zone is now open thank god because we need new encounters a long journey has us finally arrive and there's one hitch in our plans after completing his first task in order to get the biomes that we need we have to wait for him to assign us our next task so i put the game down for a while an excruciating weight later and he finally calls us to let us know that he's ready and in the end we're able to fish in the wetland biome after placing 10 objects netting us none other than a core fish why are you so difficult to find we catch it successfully and nicknamed him bane and bane has a hearty neutral nature oh we also battled these two trainers and i was like oh a cute couple but okay you two totally know what you're doing here due to our extraordinarily limited encounters and the fact that the safari zone encounters are harder to obtain and have different biome areas we have one more encounter we can grab here that will also evolve into a dark type a larvitar in the mountain biome i nicknamed him tyranus and he has a sassy plus special offense and minus speed nature which is meh a ton of grinding later and we have a few team upgrades for the first time first bane evolves into a crawdad giving us some powerful water coverage and is definitely a fave underrated pokemon of mine shortly after tyranus evolves into a pupitar and learns payback too a good move for him as the night time descends upon us we also had an additional evolution as evie's friendship is finally high enough to evolve him into a beautiful umbreon oh man it looks so damn cool on the overworld at night gorgeous up ahead at the lake of rage we can pick up the choice specs a great item although we have all primarily physical attackers bane also hypes himself up and tells us he's a big boy so it's time for his rite of passage test as we pit him against the shiny gyarados not only does his hypercutter abodely block intimidate but i also taught him the rock tomb tm which does good damage and lowers his speed so bane passes the test with flying colors in the mahogany shop lance hyper beams a man to death all in a day's work and we finish off the rocket hideout during the process we found the thief tm which is great since it's very hard to find type boosting items in this game our battle with team rocket admin petrol went amazingly well since tyranus ended up being an incredible counter to him taking down his zubat coughing and raticate with rock slide while resisting every single one of their moves feels like we're finally having some momentum on our side hey hey no wait wait my murkrow's in love with you don't leave from our humble start as a young boy on a heroic effort we've teamed up with not only someone who just murdered a human but also commands us to mass slaughter electrodes this wouldn't have anything to do with this whole dark theme we've got going on would it the mahogany gym is upon us an ice type gym and krait is able to do a great job tanking most attacks and slamming abominations like this with bite now i've decided to come here next because the level cap is actually lower than the olivine gym the sixth gym leader is priced the ice type trainer and his team is a bit concerning but i come up with a plan and set up crawdad accordingly with a hearthstone attach that we got from an onyx using thief let's see if it works he leads with a seal and i send out bane here's the amazing thing bane learned taunt right at the level cap so now i prevent seal from using hail or rest i then repeatedly hit it with rock tomb to drop at speed and all it can hit us with is icy wind which also lowers our speed he did heal but by timing our taunts correctly we could take it down with only 22 hp damage in comes piloswine next and i didn't want to teach vain surf yet because we're waiting for a physical move and the move deleter is way further down the line so we get hit by mud bomb before i hit him with rock tomb to drop his speed he then missed his next one and we hit him with bubble beam down to the red before his berry activates another mud bomb brings us to just 21 hp before we can then take him down his final pokemon is dugong which can be quite annoying and i thought we could get a taunt off on him but we're too low so i switch to treya as he hits us with aurora beam i use fago for the priority flinch then start hitting him with rock smash hoping for the defense drops we didn't get one though as we're both brought to a third so i switch into crate and i use tail whip to lower his defense as i don't want him to heal again but he uses rest from there though i can use tail whip a few more times before a few bites do the job after he heals with us at about half a bit messier than planned but we pulled through up next is the olivine gym led by the steel trainer jasmine her team had me a bit stumped but i ended up teaching umbreon to dig tm ahead of time and he's able to take down both of her magnemites with a 4 times super effective out speed in comes her final pokemon steelix so i switch into bane who gets his defense lowered i then use bubble beam but it doesn't ko and her berry activates but her iron tail is resisted by us so another takes her down for the seventh batch infiltrating the radio tower we get to don a rocket uniform and man crawdon fits in so well as a team rocket pokemon it's not even funny we sneakily creep into the building and no papa not right now please arriving at the director's office we get absolutely bamboozled by petrol who challenges us to battle now normally the big threat here is a self-destructing pokemon but this time we have a ghost type thankfully so we can avoid it at least for the first few pokemon is we got poisoned and brought too low however a combination of krait whose defenses are fantastic and pupitar who's also a great option who resists both self-destruct and poison moves was able to complete the job with hearthstone boosted rock slide while going after the card key in the basement nopapa challenges us to a battle and i was actually prepared this time he leads with golbat and we got flinched by bite and then hit by confuse ray regardless tyranis breaks through to connect the rockslide ko sneezel then comes out and i switched into sablai to get rid of confusion and then back into pupitar for the rockslide ko with us being brought to just 24 hp we now have an amazing counter to for alligator 2 as bean resists water gun and crunch but thrash still put in work against us so after bringing it low i put crate out there to finish him off from there magnemite was a one heckel with dig and hunter by one faint attack solid ariana grande is up next and i came up with a fantastic strategy against her she leads with arbok so i send out tyranus i immediately switched due to the intimidate into krait and as i suspected she used glare which activates umbreon synchronized and paralyzes her then our cherry berry heals us oh my god dig does big damage and she paralyzes us again but we still out speed and take her down with faint attack murkrow comes out so i switch into tyranus who ko's it in one rock slide after being hit by nightshade her final pokemon is vileplume and i switch into revan whose insomnia ability causes her to fail sleep powder and then pluck takes her down in two attacks sometimes you gotta give yourself credit for playing well and that was hilariously op sorry ariana grande the final rocket battle is against archer and basically i put the choice specs on bane and smashed through his entire team with bubble beam of all things with us being brought to two-thirds works for me a long journey through the ice cave nets us the waterfall hm the exact move i was waiting to give bane this whole time as his attack is way better than his special attack we then arrive in blackthorne city the location of the eighth and final gym before the gym though i head south to route 45 for a very particular reason this side of the dark cave is the only entrance through which we can finally finally get the black glasses item to boost our dark type moves why they made that inaccessible until now i will never know the blackthorne gym is upon us and bane serves as a monster here with his newly learned night slash and also resisting a lot of the moves that the trainers attempt to use on us as they have a lot of water types for some reason i am so happy that cronut is so good in this gen as just a generation before he was kind of trash since both water and dark were special types but now he can use his physical prowess the 8th gym leader is the dragon trainer claire her team is terrifying as always and i theorycrafted for a while and even upped our eevees where i thought we'd need them she leaves with a gyarados with intimidate and fortunately we have the perfect counter bane the most she can do against us is 40 hp with dragon rage so i hit it with night slash which does just over half as i thought another dragon rage brings us low but our berry brings us above half again then a second night slash finishes her off in comes one of her dragonaires and i figured she'd go for thunder wave here so i used taunt and she did so the prediction pays off from there night slash doesn't quite ko so we get hit by dragon pulse to just 17 hp but another one ko's her her other dragonair comes in next and here i decide to switch into treya dragon pulse brings her to just above half and then i hit her with fake out for the priority flinch and some shell bow recovery another dragon pulse brings us to just 19 hp and then i hit her with a massive power payback but she survives on like two hp but we do have shadow sneak i was unsure if she'd save her for restores for kingdra but she did use it here very unfortunate here i switch into crate who gets hit by aqua tail and then hit a faint attack before she uses thunder wave uh-oh this does paralyze her as well though so we still outspeed and make it through for the ko in comes her final pokemon kingdra a big threat for our team and i was not expecting krait to be paralyzed at this point she uses smoke screen to lower our accuracy twice but we got two tail whips off in the meantime hydropump then does huge damage to below half before our berry then fate attack does just less than half i was thinking of maybe switching here but i don't think murkrow can take a single hydro pump even so i stay in land another faint attack and she survives in the red before her berry oh no now here i thought for a while and decided to ask myself how could this go wrong it's a good mindset to have in nuzlockes if i'm honest i realize that if i use faint attacks she might survive in the red yes we could try to quick attack after but she'll probably full restore so i decided to go for quick attack here to ensure a faint attack ko range instead it all depends if we survive her next attack and make it through paralysis and we do to win our eighth badge unbelievable a return to equity kaz's face the kimono girls quite a tough challenge as you have to face them all consecutively with no healing or switching between battles thankfully we had enough type coverage to manage them as revan walled umbreon quite well despite confusion nonsense we could use sucker punch to prioritize and one hit kos beyond flareon was handled by a switch into bane who merely got hit by a fire blast a switch into tyrannos then completely walled their jolteon then finally vaporeon was handled by beans resistance and night slash power the mystical ceremony centuries of safekeeping made possible is enacted to summon the almighty legendary pokemon lugia and as always we make sure to kill that and end the entire jodo region's hopes and dreams with that we arrive and make our way through the perilous victory road and along the way we found the earthquake tm quite an amazing move of course but i'm gonna save it for later at the end stands our rival no papa but i had leveled up quite near the league's level cap so he was mostly manageable although we had two close calls bane's fight against for alligator which was a slugfest all the way down to 25 hp and also murkrow fighting haunter after being hit by both a shadow ball and curse which brought us to just 6 hp by the time cadabra switched in a couple close calls for sure but after fulfilling the rest of our evs and getting any needed tms and items it's time for the pokemon league the first elite four member is will the psychic trainer on the face of it this seems like a freebie for us but he does have some tricks up his sleeve i lead with revan with the metronome item attached from the game corner and i hit zatu with faint attack but it barely survives in the red and uses u-turn into jinx amazingly though as i thought we do even outspeed jinx and we're gathering power on faint attack so it goes down immediately in comes exeggutor next and it survives low in the red as well unfortunately and sets up reflect that is not good he then four restores before another brings him to just above half then another brings him into the red again then he smashes us with egg bomb before we can ko that was a bit unexpected so now slobro is too much for us to handle so i switch into bane who handles him with a couple night slashes his low health zatu is then easily ko'd and his final zatu comes out it hits us with an area lace to below half before night slash is a one hit ko on it messier than i thought that's for sure next up is koga the poison type trainer he leaves with the ariados so i leave with revan and immediately smash it with fly for the ko muk comes out next and i thought gunkshot would destroy revan so i switched into tyranus who resists but we do get poisoned we can then one hiko it with stab super effective earthquake though next up is fortress so i switch into treya so he can't self-destruct but he switches into venomoth here i merely switch into bane who gets confused by supersonic then hit by gust but we make it through for the rock tomb ko fortress is then a switch back into treya but then he switches into crowbat we hit it with shadowclaw on the switch then he gets a crit with wing attack to take us all the way to 40 hp yikes payback then brings him low before his bury but i have to switch here i tried to go into tyranus but we missed rock slide since he went for double team and poison was bringing us too low so i switched into krait who finished him off with several faint attacks as he healed and brought us to just 39 hp in the process his final pokemon is fortress who can't hit trail with anything that he has so it is a very long grind but eventually we take it down with a combination of shadowclaw and payback the third elite 4 member is the fighting trainer bruno again fighting seems terrifying for us but we do have our secret weapon he leads with a hitmontop and i send out revan who immediately ko's him with fly after being hit by quick attack in comes hitmonchan next and since we outspeed we can use fly to avoid the ice punch and ko him as well in comes onyx next so i'm forced to switch into bane who can one hit kom with a wave incense boosted waterfall after he just used sandstorm hitmonlee is up next a big threat now that bane is out there but i have a plan for this thing i know he's going to use high jump kicks so i switch into treya as he gets the recoil damage since he can't hit us i then switch knowing he won't use that again against a ghost type and he hits us with swagger now that we have a rock type out there i assumed he'd go for the high jump kick again so i bait it and he does so he ko's himself from recoil as i send out treya again amazing his final pokemon is a big threat machamp and i hit it with shadowclaw before rockslide brings us just above half another shadow claw brings him to just below half after his berry and then another rock slide brings us low i'm forced to switch so i go into bang knowing he'll rock slide and then i need all the power i can get if i'm to pull this off waterfall hits and it does indeed take him down a tough one for sure but i think we played well the final elite four member is karen a fellow dark type trainer and one whose philosophy i share she leads with umbreon and i lead with bane this umbreon can be super annoying with confuse ray and double team but i hit him with taunt right away so he can't do that and two waterfalls then ko him beautiful vileplume is then handled by a switch into revan with fly after we get hit by petal dance and in comes gengar now here i was very worried about her using destiny bond so i used roost but she went for shadow ball oh i can never predict this thing here i realize the better option is probably just to sucker punch as i don't think destiny bond activates it so if she uses it we won't ko her to activate it and it looks like she was going for shadow ball again as it works and just gets the one hit ko crisis averted hound doom is then handled by a switch into bane with waterfall although we got brought low by two flamethrowers then murkrow is an easy switch into tyranus for the rock slide ko it's time for the final battle the champion lance the dragon master this battle is absolutely terrifying we have no ice coverage for his dragonite so i thought forever about what it is we could possibly do with the best plan i have it's time to see if we can merge victorious he leads with a gyarados and we've learned that bane is a perfect counter i use rock tomb first this time so that we can then out speed him on the next turn with night slash and the plan works as we get a crit to take him down not sure if we needed that but grateful for the high crit ratio regardless in comes one of his dragonites and i know he'd send out the one that has thunder against bain so i switch into tyranus who's immune we then get hit by dragon rush low on the next turn then land a rock slide but no ko i have to switch so i send in krait and dragon rush hits for just less than half before he misses the hyper beam so i got a tail whip off he then hits a hyper beam and gets a crit down to just 7 hp before our berry holy that was close our next faint attack then just barely doesn't ko knowing he has to recharge i take the chance to switch as i'd rather have him heal when i'm prepared so i send out bane for the rock tomb to drop his speed that way i can attack again and out speed to ko him while wasting his former store nice his next dragonite then misses dragon rush so rock tomb hits it then we out speed and hit with night slash but no crit this time and it lands a thunder wave it then misses hyper beam though so another attack kos wow aerodactyl comes out next hits us with a thunder fang to 48 hp then we land a waterfall for the one hit ko his final dragonite comes out next though and i have nothing i can switch into outrage so i have to let bane go to help accelerate his confusion rest in peace brother here i send out treya who doesn't even survive one outrage but he also doesn't get confused oh no here i send out revan though and use fly so he misses and gets confused from outrage while we're in the air and fly does less than half but he hits himself in confusion but has a citrus berry man oh man i have no choice though and i don't want to bring him into forest door range with fly so i go for a faint attack and he hits himself again and it looks like the plan worked as i can now hit him with priority sucker punch for the ko holy his final pokemon is a charizard and i know we have speed so i go for fly to hit him below half air slash then brings us to 34 hp and one more fly is able to finish him off and end the battle unbelievable i honestly thought we were done for after a few of those turns but we pulled it off with three pokemon remaining that was quite the battle and becoming champion feels nice and all but our journey is not over the biggest challenge is yet to come but first fuente professor oak gives us the national decks at olivine city and this finally finally allows us to take on the pokeathlon to get a dust stone which they do indeed have in stock today fortunately enough with this we can finally evolve our starter pokemon imagine that evolving your starter in the post game as revan evolves into a beastly haunch crow look at him he's ready boys now that a new selection of pokemon has been unlocked in the safari zone and it is the post game we can pick up two more encounters first a nuzleaf in the meadow biome which i nicknamed malgus malgus has a quiet plus special attack and minus speed nature not good at all but we'll take it we can also catch a skoropie who i nicknamed plagueis and plagueis has a gentle plus special defense and minus defense nature after getting a leaf stone we can finally evolve malgus into an awesome shiftery those of you who are relatively new to my channel might not know that shiftery was actually my original mascot pokemon but admittedly he's kinda hideous plagueis also evolves into a drapeon after learning some great level up moves and this is also a perfect candidate for our earthquake tm making him quite a beast indeed with that we can now board the ss aqua into the kanto region one of my favorite parts of any pokemon game we arrive in vermilion city and honestly nothing beats the feeling i had as a young kid returning to kanto in gold and silver regardless the gym leaders in kanto are generally quite easy at this point in the game you generally have some good type coverage and have all of your evs fulfilled and your new encounters can also have the perfect ev setup so they don't have to have crappy evs from beating the story as such lieutenant surge for instance was an easy job for plagueis with earthquake and high speed but i made sure to use a pp up in case elektro double teamed us into oblivion up ahead past saffron we can go to route 7 during the night time for a 5 chance for our next encounter it takes a while but eventually we did find it a hound hour which is only available in the post game for some reason i threw an ultra ball and then immediately realized oh god it has roar but it just used ember but i am taking no chances this turn and throw my master ball i name her zanna and zanna has a hasty plus speed and minus defense nature after some grinding zanna evolves into a beastly hound doom such a cool team addition erica's gym for instance gets absolutely slaughtered by her with flamethrower and there was not even a chance we eventually arrive in pewter city where we thankfully now have malgus to take care of rock water and ground types and every single one of brock's pokemon is four times weak to grass so yeah malgus is a monster after the battle we have our final evolution too as tyranus finally evolves into a tyranitar one of my favorite pokemon ever leading to our final destination on route 28 we can find our final encounter a sneasel which is only available after you get all 16 badges which is completely ridiculous we're not going to use it but i do catch it and nickname adventurous for the memories speaking of memories we can take one last photograph with our team before the ultimate challenge mount silver in here we find the expert belt a fantastic item to increase super effective moves further before making it to the peak where the most powerful trainer in the two regions awaits red himself i prepared as best i could but there's no telling what might happen let's go for it he leads with his level 88 pikachu and i lead with tyranitar this way we stop the hail and create a sandstorm instead crucially important to prevent 100 accuracy blizzards from his pokemon knowing pikachu has iron tail and a crit would kill us immediately i switch into drapion who tanks it above half but gets the defense drop we then outspeed it though and ko it with earthquake it comes snorlax next and i go for crunch for a third before he uses blizzard we won't survive another so i switch into tyranitar and crunch just barely doesn't ko but with our increased special defense from the weather we tank two blizzards and the sandstorm ko's him blastoise comes out next and i cannot take a focus blast so i have to switch but into what i end up going into crait our best defensive pokemon but not only does he land focus blast but he gets the special defense drop too oh no not good at all he misses his next one but we miss toxic as well why he hits his next one we survive on just 40 hp and finally landed toxic i'm forced to switch so i send in revan but he gets another special defense drop how i can't even land a focus blast when i try i go for fly but he out speeds and hits a 70 accuracy blizzard and instantly kos how is he hitting all these moves that would have been amazing with toxic damage midair but nope our starter is dead here i send in malgus though who can ko with razor leaf immediately charizard comes out next which is an easy switch into tyranus who tanks two flair blitz to koat with four times super effective rock slide lapras comes out next and i know he's gonna go for a water move so i switch in malgus who tanks it and responds with an expert belt boosted leaf storm which i kept for additional power and i was worried this lapras is quite bulky and has ice moves but it gets the job done in comes the venusaur and we have the perfect counter zanna as he goes for sludge bomb but he gets a crit to bring us down to just two hp but the sandstorm then takes us out are you kidding me i go into plagueis here for some damage with crunch before sludge bomb ko's him as well this is bad i send malgus out and faint attack just barely doesn't ko before he gets slammed with sludge bomb i was hoping the sandstorm would do him in but nope survives on like one hp well this is the end i send out krait and quick attack is tempting but i know he'll full restore so i go for faint attack which does like nothing i hit him one more time to below half before sludge bomb takes down crait our final pokemon is tyrannus but we get out sped here and he uses sleep powder worst possible scenario he then hits us with giga drain we survive in the red thanks to sandstorm but he gets a recovery too but we wake up and land a double power payback which obliterates him no way i was stunned this victory this run this was special i can't believe we got taken down to just one pokemon honestly i thought we had this pretty easily but we had such bad luck towards the end regardless we did it we beat a pokemon soul silver hardcore nuzlocke with
