Baldur's Gate 3 - Why You Should Spare the HAG (Act 1 & 3)

in Baldur's Gate 3 you have the chance to encounter the hag known as Auntie Ethel and she's the main villain you have to deal with during one of the games very involved side quests in which your objective is to save a woman named Marina from Ethel's filthy clutches you want to play the hero so badly fine that's make this interesting [Music] now in the final part of the questline you get to fight Auntie Ethel herself in all her disgusting glory and if you manage to get her to low enough Health she'll start pleading with you to let her go in which she rewards you with a permanent stat boost if you agree as long as you let her take Marina with her wait oh wait just a tick kidding me is a waste of time I'll find a way to return always have always will but she's pleased so how about we be civilized about this hmm I have something you want I know I like jadiri let me leave with the girl and I'll give you power you want to be stronger tougher smarter done anything is possible just let me keep the girl to her babe don't you dare take the offer no power is worth such a cruel price it's your choice sweetness now any sane person would end on the Ethel right then and there in order to keep her from doing her evil Mojo however if you let her go while also succeeding a dialogue check you can make Ethel leave by not only letting Marina go but also giving you the stat boost as well ew greedy little balance fine here foreign ERS I'll not soon forget this witness you have my word now Ethel at this point is extremely angry with you and understandably so as you just robbed her of her lunch but thankfully she leaves a small snack in the form of a clump of her own hair and so you now have a permanent stat boost to choose from that provides you with plus one to one of your abilities Nita on the other hand letting her go might seem like a bad idea at first right I mean killing her means that you put a stop to her right well not exactly and here's a giant spoiler warning for act 3 because the quest line actually picks up again in Baldur's Gate itself so when you get to Baldur's Gate you'll sooner or later during your exploration come across victims of a hag that roams the city an intruder these people are under my protection I'll not let you harm them hearken to my words Wicked creature return to the pit of evil from whence you came and if Marina is still alive then she is one of these victims that's hanging around an abandoned building and she tasks you with hunting down the hag yet again to end her once and for all while also asking you to save a kidnapped child that's mysteriously disappeared you too I've come a long way since we last met decided I was sick and tired of feeling stupid helpless so I decided I wasn't going to be a victim anymore this group is made of survivors people like me who've been hurt by Hags I brought them together to fight back we tracked a hug to the city lost her Trail right after she snatched a little girl now after a long and arduous investigation you'll soon enough find Auntie Ethel's new lair in Baldur's Gate oh the big top hero finally showed up I told you pepper you can't hurt me without killing little Xander I have your feet so do the heroic thing yeah thank you and this time it's revealed that you can't actually kill her permanently unless you destroyed three magical mushrooms that Grant her immortality by letting her be reborn again and again and she isn't going anywhere [Laughter] and so no matter if you kill her in act one she comes back yet again through these mushrooms and so by not sparing anti-ethylene act 1 you miss out on the chance of making your character permanently Stronger All without any real bad side effects well except for the people still in her thrall that you find in her Lair but so far I haven't found any mention of these individuals after letting Ethel live in act one so they seem to Simply disappear into thin air in any case I highly recommend sparing Ethel despite the moral implications as the reward for doing so is honestly one of the better early game rewards anyway let me know what you did to anti-ethylene your own playthrough and do let me know if there's any other variations you'd like me to cover as always thank you to my wonderful and spin Squad members for supporting the channel and have a great day miss protein signing out
