hey everybody it's Leroy from Lira gaming and in today's bothers Gear 3 guide we're going to be looking at the College of lore subclass for The Bard in my opinion the true jack of all trades when it comes to both skills and spells and Baldur's Gate 3. in this video we're going to cover features a level 1 of character creation including ability recommendations I'm going to give you a full level 2 to 12 breakdown as well as I'm going to show you all spells available as you level up I'm going to provide you some general equipment recommendations towards the end as well as my thoughts on multi-classing the College of lower Bard you can use timestamps below to jump to areas that most interest you and remember to drop a like and leave a comment below with your thoughts feedback and questions and now without further Ado let's check out the College of lore bard okay here we are at level one and it's important to know the bards their primary ability is charisma and you're going to have saving through proficiencies and dexterity and Charisma your hit die is 1d8 hit points per level and you're gonna start with proficiencies with simple weapons hand crossbows long swords Ray Pierce short swords and light armor now at level one you're gonna get to pick two can trips four level one spells you're gonna gain the action bardic inspiration the super famous ability that you can utilize to influence a variety of checks including Attack rules ability checks and saving throws yes you can use this in conversations and it's important to note that you can either cast a sonic character and have it last until the long rest so utilize it whenever they need it it also is something that will pop up as an option for example during conversations that you can kind of cast as needed and it is a bonus action and then you're gonna gain two level one spell slots when it comes to your cant trips here are all the options I will go ahead and mouse over all of them you can pause the video at any point to read over the details and I'll do the same thing for the Spells so here are the level one spells that the birds get and they do get a variety of spells some are very in line of what you'd see with like clerics or Druids some are much more in line what you would see some Wizards or sorcerers so they have a very diverse spell book you do get to pick a starting instrument and that is thematic and kind of for looks and for sounds but outside of that you can equip any kind of instrument as you level up now when it comes to Ability points I recommend eight strength 16x30 12 Constitution 14 intelligence 8 wisdom and 16 charisma now you may wonder why I have 14 intelligence and that's because this character is really good as a jack of all trades kind of know-it-all character so you may very well in addition to utilizing them for your charisma checks also utilize them for intelligence checks because unlike a lot of other classes you're going to notice you get to pick your three skill proficiencies from just about every single ability here you will automatically get acrobatics and persuasion of skills or rather my foreign why I'm choosing 14 intelligence and that's because this subclass is very much a know-it-all and so you're going to be able to not only use them as your party phase for Charisma checks but it could potentially utilize them for your intelligence checks and this is possible because when you go into skill proficiencies you're going to notice you can literally be proficient in any skill in the game you're going to automatically get acrobatics and performance but then you can for example pick persuasion and maybe you want nature or an investigation you'll pick it a lot of the intelligence based skills that a lot of times other builds tend to leave out or avoid for one reason or another or for a lot of classes unfortunately intelligence is a dump stop well this can be a character where you swap that up and you can cover those weaknesses on this character all right at level two you're gonna get another level one spell slot and you're gonna get Jack of all trades again feeding into that know it all setup your vast experience makes you more likely to succeed in any undertaking and half of your proficiency bonus rounded down two ability checks that you are not proficient in you're also going to get sung of rest you and your allies are revitalized as though you would have taken a short rest so basically this gives you three short risks per long rest you're going to gain the option to replace the spell and you're going to add another level one spell now level three you are gonna finally get to choose your subclass and we're going to be choosing College of lore now you're going to be receiving a level one spell slot uh two level two spell slots you will additionally get to replace the spell you're gonna gain a level one spell you're gonna get a subclass feature called cutting words where you can use Wick to distract the creature and sap its confidence and then you're actually going to get expertise this is normally something that is only associated with Rogues but here you can basically get double skill proficiency and two skills that you're already proficient in so again really feeds into that specialization as we mentioned earlier in addition to this you're gonna get to be proficient in three more skills so again way more options than anybody else and then as far as your level 2 skills go here they are I'll Mouse over them again so you can check them out and pause it if you want to see the details as mentioned before they have a variety of offensive defensive and support spells now I did want to point out something about cutting words basically it's a modification to your bardic inspiration in combat you can cast it against enemies and what it's going to do it's gonna give them a debuff to their attack roll ability check or saving throw just like a partic inspiration it's going to scale so at level five it's going to go to 1d8 bonus and at 10th level it'll be 1d10 bonus or rather negative effect to that enemy so that's what's cutting words does for you in combat all right at level four you're gonna go ahead and get one level two spell slot you're going to get in another cant trip you're gonna get to gain another spell and the ability to replace the spell now when it comes to Feats you cannot go wrong with ability improvements to increase your charisma on this character if you find yourself utilizing concentration suppose on a regular basis then wordcaster is good as it's going to give you advantage on saving throats to maintain concentrations on spells and then I can also recommend actor here uniquely especially if you want to role play really heavily that face of the party it's not only going to increase your charisma by one but your proficiency bonus is doubled for deception and performance checks so this is definitely interesting if you want to be that Sly a little bit more sneaky a little bit more mischievous face of your party do note if you go and do the hack Quest and help her out you can get your charisma plus one even more so between this feat and the plus one point from the hag will get you to 18 and then you can just use one more ability Improvement to get it to 20. so that's one really good recommendation for you all right a level five we're gonna get two level three spell slots you're gonna get font of inspiration so you regain all your bardic inspiration after a long or short rest now and then improve bardic inspiration so now the bonus gained from it is going to be plus 1d8 and again the debuff version against enemies also gets upgraded you get to replace the spell and you get to pick another spell now it does include level three options so I will go ahead and have you take a look at those and as before you can have a nice variety of spells at level six you're gonna get one more level three spell slot gonna get counter charm so as an action for three turns you any any allies within nine meters have an advantage on saving throws against being Charmed you're gonna gain another spell from your normal spell book you can replace a spell but also very importantly you get to add two spells from magical secrets and this is a very very versified spell book you're gonna notice it's a even greater variety of very powerful spells across spells that normally only clerics would get or Wizards Etc so again whether it's haste the lining line of spells AOE healing everything is here so not only is this classic jack of all trades when it comes to your skills but also your spells so those are your level threes we're also going to show you level twos now you're likely to pick probably the higher level ones but you never know there are some lower level spells that you can upcast that can be quite powerful from lower levels so I figured I would show you all of them and do note it did include hex as an option and even Eldridge brast even though it's a cant rip this is very unique because normally most classes cannot get that at level seven you're gonna get a level four spell slot you're gonna have an option to replace a spell and again now you're gonna get to pick another spell now it does include level four spells we'll go ahead and show those to you a big standout is greater invisibility also a very rare spell for most classes and this makes it so you can actually stay invisible after doing actions or attacks very powerful I love late you're gonna get another level 4 spell slot you'll have the ability to add another spell replace the spell and then pick another feat at level nine you're gonna get a level 4 spell slot we're gonna get you a level five spell slot you're gonna get to gain a spell and replace a spell and now you do have access to level five spell so here they are and once again a combination of some of the most powerful spells in the game foreign you're going to get another level 5 spell slot you can upgrade your Bardock inspiration again now it's going to give you a plus 1d10 bonus and a debuff version is going to debuff the enemies by 1d10 you get to pick another cant trip you get to pick another spell you're also gonna get the ability to get expertise in two more skills that you have leveled up you're also going to get the ability to add two the hell you also can get the ability to add two more skills to your expertise line so they have to obviously have proficiency but now those skills are going to get even higher to a more extreme level and if that wasn't enough you get to pick two more spells from magical secrets and again this that really Diversified field you've already seen the level one two and three versions of the Spells but now you're gonna see the four and five and again these are absolutely ridiculous options very good options across the spell books from every other caster at level 11 you're gonna get a level cells at level 11 you're gonna get a level six spell slot you can replace the spell and you will get access to level six spells and here are the two that you get access to and then finally level 12 you're gonna get to replace the spell you can pick another spell that's level six or below and you're gonna pick your final feet all right now let's go ahead and talk about equipment The Bard is an interesting class because it tends to be quite Nimble they are a very diverse caster and support character and they can also multi-class quite well as their Charisma based you could very easily combo with with a paladin or warlock to give them a variety of other spells also it's not uncommon to combo with them actually with a cleric and so this you all right let's talk about equipment for a moment now bards are really good for multi-classing so I do want to point out that if you multi-class with a class that gives you access to more diverse event armor that will change this Baseline though obviously they are proficient of light armor that leans into being able to get higher bonuses from dexterity to Armor class there's a lot of really good light armor out there that can lean into a stealthy playthrough if you want to be more roguelike for example if you really just want to be a support Caster as well you can do that you have a variety of hand crossbows for examples rapiers Etc if you do want to kind of get in the mix a little bit but do be careful if you build this character out to be a skill monkey of high Charisma High Intelligence dexterity you're not going to have as high Constitution they're not meant to be tanky so the equipment I would say is Gonna Wanna be focused on supporting whatever playstyle you focus on so if you want to be more of that diverse Caster then pick up jewelry that's going to give you extra spell slots uh pick up jewelry and items that are going to make it so you get access to even more spells and spell casts um you can never go wrong of course of kind of survival items like a cloak of protection or ring of protection and then other weapons you're going to be obviously limited depending on what your proficiencies are if you're pure barred sticking with something like a rape here is going to be probably the best option as far as damage while also taking uh effect of your dexterity and if you're multi-class then obviously adapt your equipment choices to what's allotted and allowed now finally let's talk about multi-classing this is a phenomenal now let's finally talk about multi-classing The Bard and this board subclass in particular is phenomenal for multi-classing everything from supporting other Charisma based classes like the Paladin or the Warlock to give them more spell casting options more spell slots and again probably the best access to a variety of spells or you could surprise yourself and combo it with something like a cleric so clerics have some great proficiencies when it comes to armors and weapons and some good class features but their Spellbook is very focused so if you want to have a more diverse spell book as a cleric you can add levels of The Bard and that is very very powerful and effective as well all right guys that brings us to the end of my college of lore subclass kind of beginner's guide for The Bard I hope you guys found it helpful if you did make sure to drop a like subscribe to see more content from me and as always thank you for all your support and I'll see you guys in the next video foreign [Music]
