Abandoned 1946 international, will it run after 50 years?

in the last video we picked up this 1949 International that had been sitting in the same spot for over 50 years sunk Underneath the Tree on this guy's property it was used by his father as a farm truck you can see by the steak bed or what's left of the stake bed they used to haul hay with it now that we got it up on a trailer on the property let's take a little walk around this thing a little bit closer look see what we're working with so what he told me is his grandfather kind of would drive this around the farm and he lost his eyesight and he would like hit some stuff but I'm not sure how true that is because you've ever worked with these old trucks this metal is thick to knock a hole in that he would had to have been doing at least 25 30 miles an hour or more and these trucks only go 45 so he was he was going full speed ahead when he hit whatever he hit we put some marvelous mysterious oil on the handles but they're still frozen up yeah yeah this should be going in and out to latch the door we're not getting no movement there we'll probably have to take this off this will probably let us get to the door latch and the uh the window crank let's see we got a little bit of movement see that also when I first looked at this truck I thought there was no gas tank I'm used to seeing them right here across the back seat but there is a gas tank it's down there underneath the cab why did it rust there but it didn't rust the floors you'd think that would be the first thing to go but I guess it got it there maybe the window leaked and it it got down in there I'm not sure I'd like to open this glove box and see what's inside of it this window crank I think you'd let these it let the bottom of the window out no action there this is cool um there's some storage up here I think that's interesting on my 1950 GMC it's just headliner so it's kind of cool that there's storage there it's kind of convenient the shifter levers locked up uh the clutch is not locked up it goes back and forth with the brake it's locked up it's frozen master cylinder is probably going to need some attention that's for sure no gas pedal carburetor's gone use your foot to start it there's your starting nothing locked up all right here's your choke you pull this cable out and that'd be your choke one of these has got to be your throttle this is your choke and then I don't know what this is then you put your key in here and turn it press the starter we got 43 000 miles on it hard to read but this is your temp gauge I can't read what the other ones are I'm not sure which one is the gas gauge and which one is the amp gauge here's your window wiper so what's cool about this truck it's actually a short bed usually you'll see three pillars right one here there'll be one right before the fender and one after looks like there was a piece of trim or some kind of guard Shield that went there rims are rusted through uh we've been trying to figure out what bolt patterns these fit so we can put some different rims on it I'm sure someone watching this screaming in the comments right now saying I know what bolt pattern that is that's a Chevy or it's a Ford but we don't know so we're gonna figure it out so this right here this is not original I don't believe this right here is is metal like corrugated metal and I'm 100 positive this would be a wood would have been a wood bed um they were using wood beds all the way through the 50s this is 1946 I know this would have been a wood bed so I wonder if it was a wood bed and I'm trying to look for runners or signs that there was wood I don't see I see the cross members but I don't see the old rails and and wood maybe this was a metal bed I don't know someone tell me in the comments I'm sure was this a wood bed Factory or was this an option was it metal because I don't know of any truck from the 40s were the where the bed was actually metal there's always wood this wood see it gets wet and it holds water up against the uh bed there and that's why it rusts out right there so high yeah this lighting right here see this was hit hard somebody really abused this truck I'm telling you this wiring is not usable as soon as you hook a battery to it it's going to short out you're going to have problems um and the end we're probably gonna have to put another wiring harness in this to get rid of this cloth wrapped wiring this isn't going to work we want to make a 12 volt replace all these lights but this tag check that out manufactured by International Harvester Chicago USA I love that I wish I saw more of that USA um I can't read what that model says I tried to read it yesterday I don't I thought it was the measurements of the bed it says six and a half and that says one six eight uh nine two but I don't maybe that's a six and a half foot bed let's try let's see what that is six well it's six inches after that eight seventy eight yep six and a half foot I guess that Tech's right all right another rusted out Ram it's no big deal no big deal we haven't found anything super major yet that would say this truck can't go back on the road boom right there where it sticks down in there right here too but you know what that's what makes it cool I mean I'm telling you that's what makes this truck cool man this thing is so wicked look at those cab corners can you believe those aren't rotted out this right here see that cable running down this was your break oh it moves all right what do we have here this appears to be a chain for the bed well if it would line up oh yeah it looks like we have that one on the other side got ourselves a wrench maybe we can use this not a lot of going on up there can't even get underneath the new car so much wiring and stuff this thing is like empty that's your vent if you push that out there's got to be an event up here yeah your Cal vent comes up what if that'll work [Music] right there check out the underneath this thing we got rear end leaf springs drive shaft oh brother oh no gas tanks brought it out that's gonna have to come out uh oh well we weren't probably I mean we're gonna use an auxiliary gas tank anyway so oh here's the other battery cable perfect [Music] out leaf springs frames not rotted out I mean I know it looks bad on the surface but really this truck's about halfway solid I'll be honest about halfway solid it's actually flexible oh man no way we're gonna be able to use that but it's flexible that's funny foreign [Music] that's not a big deal we don't need that to start it got spark plugs it's a cross member right here is supposed to be folded down and hooked somewhere around here but they took it off and folded it up probably because it got hit right here uh we got no carburetor so we're gonna have to find one locate one um we got plug wires I'm sure we got a six volt coil there all the spark plugs have been sitting in it hopefully motor's not locked up I this thing's been sitting with an open carb open intake for over 50 years I can't see this thing turning over without a fight tell you the truth got our old Generator we got some uh cut wires well it doesn't matter anyway we're not going to be using any of this it's not gonna it's not gonna work sure fuel line got your uh um vacuum advance and then this choke or no that might have been throttle this might have been choke those cables that we eat inside there we've got lots of cobwebs lots of spider friends uh voltage regulator nice all right well let's dig into it all right let's crank open this dude see what's going on I think it's about 99 locked yep [Music] um oh my gosh what that crank is turning no you see that there's no way see it I gotta tell you I can't believe that no no she's a runner oh my gosh I can't believe oh did it not turn all the way over yeah I did or didn't well it it stopped that's not there we go there we go here let's just go ahead and douse it look down into that intake and see if there's any dirt down there I mean that's impossible I am surprised gosh I am surprised look down here and I'll pour some down there so while you're turning it look down in there and see if there's a bunch of dirt can you hold some pressure on that belt okay we went back foreign [Music] all right we're going back and forth [Music] sorry okay okay we're going wow I don't know why someone did this this cross member right here supposed to hook oh I think that was part of this incident probably right I'd say what a person could do would be to uh go in the front like with a piece stick a piece of wood or something right here and then hook something around it and just pull it real easy yeah it'll be nice and straight and you can yank on it you know just pull it real easy don't see nothing it's dark down in there well we're gonna you want to blow it out and just pour some stuff down it and put a rag in it you ain't got no air oh yeah yeah [Music] you want me to blow off the rest of it no not with that open intake I could drop something down at like the last video would you please check the oil on this thing oh it's got some oil you smell any gas in there no it's just extremely old oil yeah extremely old it's probably I mean it smells old some Vehicles didn't even have oil filters cloth wrapped wires we got spark plug wires we got a distributor we got what is that oh there's your I think that's your vacuum advance down there got a coil got a generator I'll go over here and see if that I still see if I still got that right I still got that two barrel my microphone gave out here for some reason I'm not sure why but uh we're gonna go ahead and move this truck underneath this tree because we don't have anywhere to put it in the shade we can't get it off of the trailer and uh you know it's over 100 degrees in the sun it just kills you I'm not going to pressure wash the whole thing right now just the engine bay because there's so much dirt and stuff caked around the intake the exhaust and especially the spark plug holes whenever you go to take those plugs out you don't want dirt falling down into the cylinder so we're just going to clean off the engine bay so we can get down in here it has a couple of Single Barrel Chevy carburetors we put them on there and the bolts don't match up it's too wide so we put a put our feelers out there we called a couple friends we knew we think we might have located a carburetor so we're gonna go there and pick that up and we measured it so we think it's going to work maybe that it yeah I'm pretty sure that's what it said there's not a second one in there right that is the right one and we picked up the wrong one it says Ford hmm I don't know we just picked some random guy's trailer to walk into sweet it's almost the right fuel line will hook up um what about the uh vacuum advance does that go right there yeah it's pretty close throttling choke cables can hook up to here 49 to 51. 49-51 what it says Ron sent me a listing for him for what uh the carburetors for records oh the rebuild kit no you should find out what it is uh so that 8va carburetor spark plugs look a little fouled up though I don't know it could be evidence as to what was going on at the time of yeah at the time of separation so there's a 7 8 today yeah this these things are fouled up yeah you said h8 h a eight ha like hahaha all right so this is a a H that we it's somewhere around like a 40 it says 47 to 51 Ford and it definitely looks identical to that see that see that picture see that you see this oh yeah and you know when you buy a kit they usually come with like it'll rebuild a few different ones okay so pour some marble down here I've just been narrowing down what the hell it is uh we got a natural funnel right in the head there turn the waste all out [Music] it's been over and over see if we got any push I need to buy a new uh marvelous squirter I need a new Marvel squirter see that spline right there that's for a uh hand crank when you used to put the tool in there and turn it by hand and lo and behold I was searching in the truck here's the tool to turn it by hand so we're actually going to use that thing good foreign so this belt is loose and it keeps slipping see that I'm gonna unloosen the bolt on that generator pry it out tighten it up tighten that up so I don't have to keep pressing on it with my finger and you guys are not going to believe what I just saw I swear to you I saw a scorpion crawl out of that cylinder hole and go in that back one I don't know how we're going to get that scorpion out maybe if I turn the engine over it might crawl out but I'm telling you it went in number six cylinder hold a scorpion you guys got to keep an eye out for him yeah if I turn this engine over hopefully that thing gets out of there where's my ratchet where's my ratchet I just had it oh that thing still might be in here and even though even though you're turning it like that it still it the clutch has probably got a bunch of dirt on it and it's still getting caught that's better I might be able to turn it over there it is there it is that thing is I gotta get some brake cleaners to spray on that thing my half inch dropped there it is you see it [Music] I'm not sure if the motor is not turning over all the way because it might be in gear you see me pushing this clutch pedal the clutch Fork is moving got the gear selector kind of unstuck but we're just not really sure when it's in neutral [Music] all right lift up on it all right I'm trying to lift up on it there we go oh I see it it's meant to pull that cable it's not I mean I'm moving it but it's not moving the cable or anything [Music] obviously designed to be worked on right here foreign [Music] needs to be maybe it's not maybe there's some adjustment somewhere so when you move this it moves on the transmission when you pull this this way that is supposed to engage somehow you got to get it unstuck because we don't know if it's in neutral we don't know if the motor is not going a full Revolution because it's in gear you know all right so we got it to work so if you press your clutch in if you pull up see how that goes back and you go all the way up you have a gear and another gear and you go forward you have another gear and then probably reverse so it's working now neutral not sure which gear [Music] poly reverse did you try and grease something I agree [Music] if you guys don't have a locking Grease attachment on your grease gun you're missing out I bought this thing and it's the bit's been a lifesaver I love it [Music] let me just push this clutch in all right it's hitting something hard so I'm going backwards with it that's a that is a hard hit something I'll go forward there's another hard hit [Music] um in order to get leverage from a different angle I'm going to take the flywheel cover off get a pry bar under here pry on the flywheel and see if we can't knock it loose ah oh no I'm trying to be as careful as I can taking these screws off because if I round off these flat heads before I can knock them loose then you're gonna have a tough time getting that cover off this is not good got one all right oh all right all we got to do is get that last one off come on oh yes [Music] foreign [Music] get to that flywheel maybe I can pry it maybe if we I don't know if it's on a rough spot if we can get past it oh it's hard all right she's turning though oh I think we got past it okay okay let me um I'm gonna go up top let me turn it with the fan let me see if I can get some rotations I'm gonna just leave you guys under here to look at this flywheel because you're looking at the motor turning anyway we hit another hard spot [Music] let's try this again hit another hard spot it might just be a rust ring you're gonna cut what wires uh the wires oh going okay we can't use them anyway so do I hook up the ground to the negative or the positive yeah just hook it up negative negative and positive and positive well there you go break over she won't know [Music] foreign a little more marble in there for good luck [Music] all right ready yeah go ahead all right real good 80. smoke coming out of the cylinder that's even better not too good what was that uh it's cranking 25. that one hit 60. okay fair enough yeah all right foreign that one hit that one hit 40. it's not too good all right go ahead all right that that's good that one that one got 60. okay all right well two probably three cylinders now yeah oh yeah that one's going that one was going up to 80. good this is uh spark plug cleaner and Chester now they're going in nice and smooth but you've already got it boy that's all it is foreign [Music] I did all right go ahead [Music] sparking at the plug yeah foreign [Music] [Laughter] and decided to go ahead and rebuild the carburetor we have it apart and we've had it soaking in carb cleaner overnight we heard it get pretty flighty yesterday we're pretty sure it's going to run it's got decent enough compression to go as we were pouring gas down yesterday the gas was just leaking all over the place I mean the gaskets are completely shot so we'll throw a rebuild kit in it clean it out make sure all the passages aren't blocked off and we'll try it again brand new seat foreign [Applause] [Music] we're getting a lot of fire out of the exhaust [Music] Ed [Music] [Laughter] [Music] knocking it ran very smooth we had to cut it off because we don't have a radiator for it and I also want to give a big shout out to AutoZone we called everybody we called Napa Riley Merles AutoZone was the only one that had a kit for the carburetor it's like a 47 or 48 Ford this isn't sponsored by them but maybe one day we'll be sponsored by AutoZone who knows maybe somebody watching this you never know who hears things but that kit works great if we didn't have that we would have been stalled for days you know I don't know where we would have found that kit so that was awesome quick I I've been abusing this thing for a decade now she never gives it up and she gets under anything foreign somebody commented and said that the brakes on this truck were the same as a 1944 which I appreciate that comment I'm actually going to check and see if that's true because that might make brake parts for this thing easier to get um I have no idea what we're gonna see when we take these off but I'm hoping I can rebuild get a kit and rebuild the master cylinder get a kit and rebuild the wheel cylinders put new brake shoes on it put new uh brake hoses on it rebuild the whole braking system Frozen all right let's go to the other side [Music] not as bad as I thought for these rooms sitting down in the mud in the moisture I think they'd be a lot worse the only one that seems to not want to come off is the one on the front wheel well there's nothing to even take off foreign see what I'm talking about there ain't even a lug nut to take off [Music] okay [Music] [Music] [Music]
