hey it's dry bear and today I'd like to share with you seven mistakes you might be making right now in Baldur's Gate 3 that are drastically changing your experience through the game but first you should come hang out with me on my live stream I'm live every single day on twitch.tv forward slash dry bear if you don't come hang out with me in the community the next time you're putting on your socks your toenails gonna get caught on the way in which actually doesn't hurt it just feels really weird now as someone who is on their third playthrough full playthrough of the game I can tell you that I have made every single one of these mistakes the first one we're going to talk about is one that most people don't actually think about when they first start playing Baldur's Gate 3 and kind of takes them by surprise especially on their first playthrough and that is not respecting the passage of time in Baldur's Gate 3 unlike most RPGs that asks you to suspend your disbelief that time is passing some parts of the world as immersive as it can be are actually time limited which means that if something is going on that seems dire or pressing if you let allow too much time to pass that moment could have left you someone could no longer be available that you needed to turn a quest into someone who was fighting for their life but they were burning or bleeding or suffocating in some way if you let too much time pass that situation will change and permanently so that you won't be able to unless you reload make any alterations to what that is going on so if you aren't used to crpgs or the way Larry intends to do things in their games you really want to think about if there's something going on what you want to prioritize your time as now granted like most RPG games there are still a lot about the game that is truly going to be infinite you can leave your computer on for 24 hours while something seems dire and nothing is going to happen but that's not true with everything in the game like I mentioned without giving any spoilers we're showing footage of act one here on my third play for through to avoid spoilers for everybody but if you find someone who is in a very risky situation their life is in danger you have X amount of time to deal with that before something happens something changes or something moves on whether you like it or not and you can obviously just reload and go back to an earlier save if you want to undo it but you want to think about that as well and this goes for situations in the quest lines but also with your story and your companions as well there are only so many things that you can prioritize in each playthrough and if you spend time doing other things you will miss out on opportunities now some people may look at this as a negative personally I look at it as a positive because it adds to a high level of variety and replayability for the game itself because maybe you didn't do something one play through and you want to try and do it your next playthrough and you find out that it changes the world completely or a companion that left you your party permanently before is now in your apartment party for the rest of the game and you end up growing close or there's other opportunities so keep that in mind that the time that you spend in game primarily the the biggest way that you pass time is by long resting even if it's a partial rest if you end the day and then go to sleep on your bedroll and rest long rest you will be passing the day forward to the next day and some things will only be a couple days worth of time which means that if you rest a couple times your opportunity for that specific quest line or moment is going to pass and you won't get it back the next mistake that I see people making all the time is not surprising enemies kind of just walking in and I think if you're playing on the first two difficulties you may not notice that this is a big loss but as you push to tactician or maybe even the situations where you are forced to fight very difficult enemies it may become very obvious that allowing the enemy and you to be on equal footing at the start of the fight can be incredibly detrimental and so what you may want to do is consider surprising the enemy pressing shift C putting your whole party into hide finding an angle putting it in turn based mode and then getting the jump on the enemy which makes them lose their first turn essentially giving you two turns in a row where you can deal damage you can kill priority targets or you can make things easier for yourself that previously if you let those things happen especially on tactician where you can get one shot very easily you may end up having a party member go down and then you spend the rest of the fight trying to recover from that situation which you could have avoided if you just got the jump on the enemies the next mistake is not utilizing the benefits of out of combat actions in your if you're in combat and you're in turn based mode when you take an action your turn four actions is done unless you reset that you get one action per turn one reaction per turn and one bonus action per turn if you're out of combat and you wait a couple seconds after taking an action that will reset which means that you get to take another and there are plenty of things that you know you're going to do at the start of the fight anyways things like casting bless or casting true strike or casting uh Sanctuary or crap or casting like Mage Armor that lasts until next long rest these sorts of things can be better done outside of combat because you know that you're going to do them and they're going to start combat that way if they are a turn-based buff so things like bless what you can do is you can press shift space to enter into turn based mode then buff let it pass a turn and then go into combat right out of that that way it's not ticking down constantly and you're losing all of your your term bonuses or charges of that buff and you can kind of save that up for yourself individually next mistake that I see people using is or running into is not utilizing Elemental resistances to their fullest every enemy every character every unit in the game has resistance is no resistances strengths weaknesses that sort of thing so what you can do is you can take that to its Advantage so if you see that enemy is weak to force or weak the Thunder or weak to fire you can use that to punish them through various different means not only can characters use the spells that have those elements attached to them you can also have characters that aren't even spell casters cast a scroll for a specific thing say they're weak to thunder and you have a scroll of shatter you can use that to do deal damage rather than hitting them with a weapon you can also do things like dipping your weapon into different surfaces if there's acid or poison laying next to you you can use the dip action to coat your weapon in that element and then use it to hit the target you can also do things like put a candle on the ground and then you can dip your weapon into the candle a candle is a very lightweight item you can keep in your inventory you can place it down on the ground and all you have to do is hit the dip weapon action put it towards the candle and even that little little bit of flame will coat your entire weapon in Fire and you can use that for fire damage there's tons of ways you can add Elemental damage to your attacks that can do exceptional uh bonuses for you as you're playing the game and make things super awesome and a lot easier especially on the harder difficulties the next mistake I see people making all the time is not actually using the environment and the items and tools that they're given you can throw weapons if targets are weak to bludgeoning or piercing you can throw Alchemist fire to burn things down and you can also like you can see on screen with the spider fight if there's something that someone is standing on that's destructible you can just burn it or destroy it and cause them to fall there's plenty of destructible environments there's posts that hold up higher level uh things that may fall on top of enemies and deal damage to them you can also pick up items that you can carry with you that may do insanely beneficial things to you if you have a strength based character you can pick up these smoke powder barrels oil barrels wine barrels and carry those with you and you can put them down on the ground and detonate them to deal tons of extra damage to the Target as they blow up from that you can also do crazy things with setting up boxes to block doorways and making people go around or trying to uh get them in the right spot when they group all up and then cause extra damage to them when they are standing in the right spot you can have summons like you can summon like a rock the fire Elemental the Little Rock Boulder I've used that to block doorways in in areas that are very uh you know set up with a modern layout with doors and they'll have to Kill the Rock to get in they can't jump over it's too big it's in their way and then it can buy a lot of time for you to split the fight up and do really awesome things with that and almost everything in the game can be picked up and put in your inventory some things are very heavy but you can pick things up a great example of this is if you're a necromancer you can grab corpses that you would normally use to summon minions you can pick them up and put them in your inventory and walk around with them so that when you get into a fight and you're up against enemies that don't create corpses or those no corpses nearby to summon your minions you can just drop the corpse on the ground from your inventory that you saved from earlier on as creepy as it is and then cast the summon minion on it and get that corpse from out of nowhere it's like a little pocket Pokemon summon except a lot grosser don't forget that you can interact with the environment in many different ways if you find that an event is creating a noxious fume that you don't want to have create that you can grab items from your inventory and block it so if you throw the item on top of the vent it's going to block it prevent that gas from coming out and you can even trigger traps prematurely and get them out of your way and it's even easier to do this when you use the Tactical mode by pressing o which gives you a straight top down view on top of the vents and then use throw to throw any item that has weight on it on top of the vent close it off so things like that that you can use are really cool the next mistake that I see people making all the time is that they don't utilize space very efficiently or very effectively the number one thing that I see a lot of people doing is not really measuring out how far away the enemies are an easy way to get an advantage on a large group of enemies which you will run into often in Baldur's Gate 3 is to make them use their turn to get close to you so if you start about a dash length and a half away from each other where you're outside of ranged uh distance like bows and spells and obviously you would need to do a full Dash if your average movement speed to get close enough to melee the target if you step back slightly and then end your turn they will spend their turn coming to you using their actions and bonus actions to get to you and then you get to get the first attack on them but I see a lot of players sometimes just well the enemy is too far away I'm gonna the dash and run in and try and get in range and then the enemy gets to attack you first and you get hit that way you can also use choke points this way if you back up or climb higher and you make the enemy follow you if the enemy is out of range they will just use Dash or teleport or Misti step or whatever enemy you're facing they will have to use their turn to move to you and then when your turn starts they're in range you don't have to worry about that so you want to be using the space as effectively as you can and this goes for High Ground low ground as well you want to get those High Ground advantages on top of enemies and make sure that they have low ground disadvantage on you as well you also want to use that so that when you can group up on top of High Ground enemies that follow you can knock them over with all kinds of spell effects you know the thunderous arrows or Thunder Wave or shoving or gust of wind or whatever it is you can make them climb up to you on their turn knock them onto the ground they take damage on their turn they climb back up you knock them back down and that way you're getting free damage image and not taking any damage in return because you're using the environment for your benefit rather than allowing the enemy to punish you for not having used the bar environment at all the last mistake I see people making is a pretty common one and pretty straightforward if you don't play a lot of crpgs and that is not ungrouping or using turn-based mode to its fullest you can very easily see a fight coming up and you can press G to ungroup all your your teammates which means they won't follow each other if they split up and you can put all your melee in the right position to succeed in the upcoming fight you can put your ranged on The High Ground or a way to support their teammates without exposing themselves or you can put them in a way where they can go step forward use an attack step back and hide behind a wall which means the enemy won't have line of sight on them and they're safer that way you can give them an advantage from above and then you can kind of set up everyone to be in the right spot and the right time and also if they're ungrouped and one person attacks they won't All Join the combat together especially if they're all hiding so you want to put all your characters in the right spot press C or shift C put them all in hiding and then each character gets to get a free launch onto the target before the target even gets a turn they're surprised and you get the right moment to attack and it can really set you up for success in some really difficult encounters that otherwise you wouldn't have been able to overcome so press G un unlock all of your characters split them up put them in the right spot this goes for cinematic or campaign encounters as well where you get the someone gets to jump on you when the dialogue goes poorly if you know it's coming on your second playthrough or maybe you reload it and you want to try it again you get to spread your teammates out to spots that are in the right area and then start the dialogue and you can have that Advantage when the combat begins and you can also use turn based mode to get everyone in the right spot when you press shift space it goes into turn based mode and enemies stop moving if it's not their turn so you can really make sure that you line things up you don't get spotted in stealth that sort sort of thing so make sure you're using turn-based mode and ungrouping to get the biggest advantage that you can on the enemies that you're facing and that's what I've got for you today seven mistakes that I have made many times myself and I see people making uh when I'm watching streams and other things like that for the game itself so I hope you enjoy if you found value in the video leave a like down below leave a comment for the algorithm now this video gets seen by more people and of course I'll see you on my
