#492 Metal Grinding Balls The Life of an Owner Operator Flatbed Truck Driver

all right now i remember what they're called grinding balls i honestly don't know what they're used for they're going to a cement place so i don't know if they put them in like the cement mixer or what all right good morning we're uh we're at the tennessean truck stop on i-65 here i'm gonna spin you around i don't know the name of the town it's kind of a mom-and-pop place it's a nice place a nice big parking they got a little ice cream shop up there or mcdonald's across the street but uh it's a nice little truck stop swinging back around don't get dizzy so we got over here yesterday afternoon and we're about 40 an hour away from where we got to deliver this stuff to and then we're going to run up to pulaski tennessee and pick up our reload and it is supposed to rain today i got my rain jacket i have a feeling i'm going to get wet today wet and muddy let's get started here uh so we're gonna go get on i think it's 64 or 62 highway 62 i got here yesterday afternoon and then i just did paperwork all day yesterday head southwest on us 31 alternate south catching up on expense reports and stuff like that half a mile turn left onto the i-65 south ramp to huntsville they got some cool trucks right there so i've been watching my fuel mileage coming over here i'm getting about five five and a half what i expected like i said these trucks always got bad fuel mileage so it doesn't hurt my feelings that much truck's running good though there's a little tiny pilot right here and i actually bought fuel right there yesterday but that place is a pain in the butt to get in and out of turn left onto the i-65 south ramp continue on i-65 south for eight miles 64. so yeah we're going to go down and get on uh highway 64. and where we got to go to and this is supposed to be like a solar farm thing where we got to go to is right off 64 which makes it a little easy and then when we reload all we got to do is get right back on 64 and head right up to pulaski maybe i'll get a little lucky this rain will hold off for a little while all right [Music] so [Music] so [Music] i am at the right place i am at the right place that that way i gotta get past the turn there so see what we're getting into here so all right we're getting down here so so yes sir yeah i think i'm stuck all right we got unloaded they were nice enough to help me considering how windy it is out there and uh i am stuck in the dirt so they're gonna unload the truck right here the uh truck sat down sunk down when i stopped it sunk down in the dirt so hopefully it won't take up too long the guy in front of me he loaded at the same place and he had four foot tarps i don't know if you guys can see it hang on a second but they're unloading him here let me just try to zoom in handling so they're unloading him up there but he had four foot tarps all right hang on so we'll wait till we get unloaded and then we got about an hour over to our next pickup all right we're uh near where we're supposed to pick up i think if i can figure it out if i can figure out what i'm supposed to do here take the next left then turn right okay turn you off so you don't start yelling straight so i'm assuming i'm supposed to pull on the scale here we're supposed to pick up what to call grinding balls and i honestly don't know what it looks like or what we're getting or how ugly it's going to be come on there all right let's figure it out all right it's the end of the day we're over here in mary mariana florida at the ta truck stop i'm parked in reserve parking we had a good day got unloaded this morning we drove let me see how far we went today let's see we drove 467 miles today got unloaded got untarped got reloaded drove down here from right here we got about 160 miles to go for tomorrow uh we gotta reload not tomorrow but wednesday uh going up to ohio so we got a good reload already i picked up metal drums it's been a long time since i hauled metal drums so i wanted to go outside and show you guys what it looks like um they're not that bad they're not loose they they're on pat there's two per pallet and they're banded together if that makes sense so it makes a little easier but uh let's go outside and we'll take a look the truck next to me is running so it might be a little noisy so this is what we got and um they are um oh i can't remember what they called him now hang on all right now i remember what they're called grinding balls it's the end of the day and i can't i'm i'm kind of tired but they're called grinding balls and i picked one up off the ground i think this is a bigger one those say three quarter inch but it's made out of metal there you can see made out of metal i honestly don't know what they're used for they're going to a cement place so i don't know if they put them in like the cement mixer or what but uh that's what they're called grinding balls so you can see how i got them on here so they got uh so there's this is one pallet right here and they got two they're so they're little skinny pallets they're gonna come in the front so you see uh so it's just a little skinny pallet with two barrels on there the barrels are banded together you can see how i put the strap in the front there hold them up and then the backpack here same kind of thing but they got three barrels so there's three pallets back here so you see the one two and three and then we got the straps crisscross in the back they're riding good they've got above almost 41 000 pounds on the trailer so they're riding good looking good turn the light up a little bit oh anyway it's the end of the day it's nice to be down in florida it's a little warm not warm but it's nice nice we're uh we're at the ta if you can see that up there all right i'm gonna go take a shower take our 10 hour break hit it again tomorrow so thanks for watching
