#529 A Smokey Montana The Life of an Owner Operator Flatbed Truck Driver

hello back here take a look at that dorsey trailer like i said so it's been one year since i bought the trailer it's 2020. dorsey aluminum giant 48 feet long got a lift axle [Music] do [Music] bye [Music] so all right we got loaded we're uh over here in butte montana at the pilot i just fueled up this would be the last cheap fuel for a while so uh mercer price was 3 28 a gallon 323 something like this would that the last cheap fuel that's what we got i don't know what they do but big chunks of metal so 32 almost 33 000 pounds so they got them banded to the pallets but i went ahead and put put 52 000 on there i'm too heavy but everything looking good i don't know let me pan around slowly not to make you dizzy but you see all the haze that's all smoke it from the fires i don't know how far away we are from the fires but uh it is smoky so today's plan is to get to knee high knee high nephi um utah i want to get south of salt lake city so that's the plan so let's get going all right gotta go get on 15 south now like i was saying there is no easy way to get from here to my house you might as well just say my house because where we got to go in arizona is pretty close so you can take 15 down into utah kind of cut through the woods in utah come out there on i-40 um but it's all two-lane roads back through the woods and everything i have just found it's easier to stay on 15. stay on 15 all the way down to las vegas and then we'll cut from las vegas over to phoenix [Music] it's just easier now i fueled up here because i keep reading about fuel shortages like salt lake city las vegas so every time i get to half a tank i'm just gonna stop and pop it off now once we get down to uh arizona fuel will be a little cheaper but i'd like to get through salt lake city before traffic gets bad all right here's our eggs for 15 south all right i'll talk to you a bit [Music] do [Music] [Applause] [Music] do [Music] all right headed over here to idaho falls we're at the uh loves truck stop bailey wants some camera time but uh we're gonna take our 30 minute break get it out of the way and then we'll be good to go through salt lake city just trying to beat some of the traffic there's a fight a little bit more time there's an army surplus store over there i'd like to go walk around there that'd be pretty cool um we'll go outside remember i said that was the last of the cheap fuel up there in butte so if it shows up four dollars and four dollars and fourteen cents cash price for fuel it was cash price for the pump was three what was it 338 something like that so uh quite a difference that's why i said that's probably the cheapest fuel or we got the cheapest fuel until we get down arizona loads doing pretty good these are pretty simple nothing hard at all they're riding good there's a couple good-looking trucks in the parking lot here peterbilt right there oh oh yeah it's been so long since i've been up here i had to get the atlas out and look at the atlas where we're going well we got the tires everything looks good i've been running the generator a lot the last couple of days and it's still doing good all right so i had to get the atlas out so i can see where i was going it's been so long it's been so long since i've been up here but uh all right let's finish up our break we'll go out another 5-10 minutes finish up our break and get going all right we're over here in bigham bingham city utah it's four o'clock local time we're going to have to go through st louis or salt lake city during rush hour i'm just looking on google maps right now see how bad it looks got about 145 miles down to where i want to go to park i don't want to drive too late tonight i got four hours of 47 minutes left on my clock i probably got about two and a half three hours of driving i don't want to uh drive too late because i don't know this area up here i don't know truck stops and how fast they fill up so i don't want to take a chance of driving till late at night we're doing pretty good though we've got since we've gotten loaded or since we got fuel we've gone about 350 miles since we got loaded we've gone about 370 months the traffic has definitely started to pick up more i just want to get past salt lake city today so i have to deal with it tomorrow we do that tomorrow is going to be not too bad of a day we'll uh we'll get down to uh on the other side of las vegas tomorrow and maybe all the way down to king king kingsman arizona kingman arizona i don't come up this way and all these uh all of these uh cities and towns i just don't know so all right let's make it through salt lake talk to you a bit [Music] all right it's the end of the day i've actually already took a shower we made it over here to knee i think it's knee high utah we drove 521 miles today um so tomorrow we're going to make it down to probably kingman arizona and then saturday we'll run to the house from kingman's bike it's about 350 350 miles from kingman to the house and then that'll get us there on saturday we'll spend the sunday and then monday i'll go deliver this stuff and uh figure out what i'm going to do traffic down through salt lake city kind of
