#210 Car Fire Florida Scales and No More Rails for Me The Life of an Owner Operator Truck Driver

all right good morning we're outside of Macon Georgia at the lovestruck stop as you can see there's the love sign I didn't stay here last night I stayed north of Atlanta and Calhoun Calhoun Georgia I woke up early this morning and drove out of Atlanta drove to Atlanta this is i-75 and if you look way out there I don't know if you can see it but there's a sign that's where the split is for 475 making goes off that way 475 kind of like the bypass around Macon Georgia and it runs back into 75 but it uh it rained all day yesterday and then it's snowed yesterday morning but I'll talk more about that once we get rolling but let's take a look at our our load we got here now as you if you look closely you see you see that point right there that one there there's a big metal box or crate right in there and then the way I strap these down when I have to use my straps is I just run the straps underneath the boards these boards are a little bit flexible to give a little bit they give a little bit and then if you count these other straps these are some metal tool boxes that are in there but we'll we'll open the back up and take a look so I had to take if you look see that that's a bow right there and then the other ones right there I had to take two bows out and two bows hook into these these metal pieces right here because it was just like I said it was just a little bit too tall but this load called four six-foot tarps when I booked the load so I was I was pretty sure it was gonna fit in here so let me let me open up the back of the trailer and it will crawl up in there my trailer is a mess I was in such a hurry yesterday or day before yesterday I didn't have a chance to clean it up from all them coils but here's a look from the other side here so you can see where the that crate is in there that's what it looks like all right let me open the back of the trailer and we'll take a look all right we got the back of the trailer open you can take a look so hopefully let's see if it get enough light yeah there goes so this what we got it's big I don't know what's in there or what it is but as you can see that's a bow on the ground right there my trailers a mess I didn't clean up anything from when I unloaded those coils I just left it all in here but what I did is there's there's two little lifting eye hooks right there on all four corners I just put a piece of carpet to help protect that right there and it I've had to do this before I've actually had to do this with coils sometimes a coil be so big in here and what I'll do on the outside you saw how its roped on one side I'll loosen up the ropes and and it can go up a good I would say about 8 10 inches the only other thing I did it's hard to see but there's other metal toolboxes are in the front and what I did is I put a chain around the front and a chain around the back because these things aren't real heavy sometimes it's hard to keep them in the trailer from sliding around so as you can see I put that chain around like that and then one in the front and then it kind of squeezes all of this stuff together if you look down the side there but kind of squeezes it all together it kind of keeps her from sliding around so you can see how I did that originally I was gonna put that piece of felt up on the top up there but the carpet worked better so so they are racing around on the interstate today there's the interstate sorry I made you guys dizzy hang on a second but there's the interstate motorcycle racing by somebody through their truck mattress out on the ground and there's the love sign so uh let me finish I'll put this up I'll close this back up go get another cup of coffee from right here we got about three hundred and forty miles I think down to Tampa and this is going to some power of power plant I believe so it's a it's the tool and whatever they have to do is what it is I'm not too sure what it is all right let me close this back up and I thank you guys in a bit okay I got everything put away to go so I stopped him out Vernon on Friday we got loaded I got done I made it down the mountain burning about I don't know five six o'clock somewhere around there and I put a video together and and then I went to shower that night and then I woke up in the morning I was like hi I'm gonna go ahead and go to Walmart do my shopping and then I'll do some laundry and take off all right hang on one second you see a guy doing this tarps I wonder if I dropped my tarps off if he'll fix mine too I still have to fix mine mine are still yeah so he throw in a fix of charms so so yesterday morning I went over to Walmart early bought my groceries came back to the truck and by the time I come back to the truck it was starting to snow I was like are you crazy kidding me so it started snowing pretty good I was like I gotta get out of here cuz I have to be down in Florida so it snowed pretty good all the way almost down to Paducah and then it turned into rain what - I see but I did want to say one thing somebody made the suggestion back way back when I was up in Erie Pennsylvania and all that snow and I was complaining about the snow building up on the window somebody had made the suggestion put your Sun Visor down and it helps hold the heat up by the window and I did that yesterday and man if that didn't work it was it worked really good kept the snow down so from the ice build up so anyway whoever told me that little tip I appreciate it because all these years I never would have thought about that of using the Sun visors to hold the heat so that that did work everyone's appreciated ah see so we got to be a Tampa and seven almost downtown Tampa to over by the water we got to be there at 7:00 in the morning so I think we're gonna wake up early tomorrow and hit in the Tampa firmly trying to beat a little bit of the rush-hour I don't know what I'm gonna do out of Tampa yet I don't have a reload yet most likely we're gonna deadhead out of Tampa and most likely we're gonna have to take the side kit down which I understood and all that coming down here so it takes me I don't know anywhere between 20 and 30 minutes to take the site get down it takes longer to Waffle to tarp up than anything all right let's see there we go mr. tango yeah we did it rain all day yesterday I mean they stood men and it was nice this morning the Sun star was shining this morning it it was pretty nice see here you're ready to go do it mr. Gere okay let's we're gonna make my way down to Valdosta the next stop will be probably somewhere in Florida on the other side of the state line so traffic's been moving pretty good once we get down into Florida on 75 they're usually traffic it's a little heavier some tiny squeeze there run the tires up on the curb always trying to do that slows off the tire [Music] all right yeah they just built that love so it'll take them some time to figure out the gun did occur all right let's get out of here there's nothing me talking we're gonna make it way south and thank you guys we'll get the floor yeah fire care of us guys here's your dummy set for a little while Majumdar can't make out the mall that it's fully ablaze so just kick back and relax they're saying it don't throw bleep at the destruction zone so a my dad's room once they get it out northbound or southbound southbound side and organ okay here we go to stop red basket if you want to art stick hope you have brought your supper you're going to be waiting along you got a car fire up there that's 11 trapped on black come on elders are firemen looks like they put it out already and it's off to the side I'm back and say yeah I got it home it looks to me like here buzz barking - hammering all right we we're stuck in traffic and I think you guys see a smoke up there somebody said there's a car on fire but as you can see we're in the construction zone this lane here is blocked off there's cones these guys are all over the place but this lanes blocked off they said the car is off in that lane right there the fire trucks just got there they didn't say it was an accident they just said the car caught on fire so I'm not too sure what the deal is but looks like we might be stuck here for a bit and then see right there nope bugs are you know it's getting that time of year starting to warm up bugs are getting on the windshield so once we get moving then well let's see where we are well there's a 50 mile marker and you'll hear me say I see if you can see it if you can see it or not but that says 50 some people call them yard stickers some keeping people calling mile markers but it is a mile marker but the that got 50 miles then we can keep track of where you're at we've got 50 miles down to the state line I don't know it should be should be moving pretty quick though and we got see how far we go we got 275 miles to Tampa but I don't know how far we're gonna get down I think there's like a rest area like 30 miles before you get to Tampa so we might end up there today all right one last look so you can still see the smoke out there but see if they get traffic moving here in a little bit all right yeah they're starting to let cars go by now I think they got it under control all right talk to you a bit I'm coming up on the fire way they were saying on the CB didn't look like anybody got see what kind of car it is see if we can make out what kind of card it is Florida exactly Yoda [Music] all right back to Roland back to Roland see you guys will get Florida you hi you guys get the watch back up to the scale here and Lord we got the rent light we'll see so you just pay attention see the sign says 45 miles an hour slow down to 45 and then once we get right up here you see where it says 100 foot in there intervals so there's basically two truck links and then see the little platforms on the ground right there that's where they sway you so the way this is going by and they see if we got the green light in the red light so we're gonna follow the bypass lane and we're not out of the woods yet just because we got the bypass like that sign right there prepare to stop when flashing so for some reason they made a mistake or if you made a mistake and they want you they'll let you know once we get up here so this still says prepared stop no if it's not flashing we still got a green light and we'll maintaining about 45 miles an hour and there okay now we're out of the woods now we we're good to go here speed up and they got flirting at agriculture inspection three miles so I I don't sometimes it will be in so that they don't great past does work for agriculture inspection unless you have agriculture products on the truck then you have to stop but I never do so anyway we'll get down here see what happens in there Coltrane collection okay coming up on the agriculture check it says free pass trucks following cabs signal no bypass for loads with agriculture I think that's how you say all those birds let's see what happens here we got a green light so we are good to go so you can see all the trucks pulling in and I think it's similar to California's kind of thing California's stopped there they stopped everybody but just like California in Florida big produce states I think that's what they're checking make sure you don't bring any bugs and you're not supposed to you see the antenna over the road it's going to read that free pass let them know that I throw by hey got some trucks coming out so we'll pull over one lane here let these guys get out we've got about three more hours Sophie about 5:30 ish ever take a little bit by the time we get down there and like I said we got to be down there first thing in the morning so we will wake up early in the morning trying to head down there before it's too late for traffic it's too bad against the first thing all right and get back over here behave myself and I'll talk to you guys in a bit all right end of the day we're over here camped out in the rest area um we got about thirty miles to go tomorrow I don't know what we're gonna do for reload yet I've been looking at some loads out of Alabama so I'll make a decision in the morning what I'm gonna do dinner nothing around here so I'm gonna have deadhead out of Florida which I know coming down here I do is I always take that in consideration but we'll see where we end up oh I tell you what I saw on the load board I saw some more of those rails out of what's up Port Royal Port Royal South Carolina ain't taking no more of those rails but anyway that's it easy Dave actually I got a early start this morning went to bed early last night actually got early start tomorrow might be a little stressful dealing with Tampa but he'll be all right all right time for dinner make a salad and get ready for tomorrow so talk to you later thanks
