Hi everyone,
So in today's video, we're gonna talk about when you start as a beginner to stop looking
like this and start looking more like this. Hello, and welcome to Kaprun, the Kitzsteinhorn,
in Zell am See Kaprun, I'm Christian Aigner, full cert Canadian, and full cert Austrian ski
instructor, I'm here to give you a couple of tips, but before that, let's get one question out of the
way. Can adults learn how to ski, a definite YES. Why should adults learn how to ski, because
it's fun, it;'s the best winter sport activity with your kids your family your friends,
you're outside, you're doing something healthy, and you can enjoy views like this. Let's not waste
any time follow along, watch this video and enjoy. The most important part of your
equipment are actually the boots, inside our ski boots we only want
to wear a thin sock, the whole boot should fit relatively snug, that's the connector
between your body and the snow. In ski boots, if they are too big and too loose, your feet will
just move around and nothing is going to happen, so go and see some expert at a ski shop where
you can rent the boot that fits you, now here, with this boot, it would actually be too
loose, your boots should feel really tight, as tight as possible as loose as it needs to
be, the other thing we need are some skis, for a beginner, I would recommend the
length pretty much from the chest to the nose somewhere in between there, but please
tryst your ski instructors in the first lesson. Make sure you wear lots of different layers,
not just one thick jacket. If it gets hot, it's easy to take one layer off, the other
thing, get some safety stuff, wear some gloves put some goggles on, the helmet and
protect your skin with some sunscreen. The next tip in today's video is actually
about your own body, up here in the mountains with this elevation we have less oxygen available,
so we need to be fit, add some exercises in your daily routines, brunch your teeth while doing some
squats, make your coffee while doing some lunges, bus also get serious about some interval training
go push yourself doing some cycling, some hiking always take the stairs not the elevator
and find some exercises for your legs and your core and get in shape. Your overall
fitness will help you, you will feel better in the evenings, you'll have more energy and very
often you can prevent some injuries with it, make it your mission before your next ski
trip, to get in shape, and that starts today. Another tip in today's lesson is actually the
better you ski, the more fun you will have, its really amazing when you can go ski with
pretty much anyone because your own ability is not holding you back, you can ski off-piste you
can ski bumps, you can ski all around the world, for myself, I love skiing because I am never
at the point where I cannot improve any more, just be careful when you start learning to
ski you might get really hooked on this sport and want to get better and want to ski as much
as you can, make sure to go with a professional ski instructor either in a private lesson or a
grpaup lesson, let them help you to learn how to stop to learn how to do turns and make it
safe overall on the mountain, afterwards when you need some milage, go get some books, some
magazines, watch some youtube videos like this, to get a little bit more of an idea or even
don't be afraid of technology and put a digital ski coach like Carv into your boots to actually
monitor your skiing and improvements throughout the time, you can even swipe through the app and
get some particular tips for your own skiing. The next tip, is to take it easy on yourself,
choose the right terrain for yourself, here we have a nice and easy slope, a blue slope
where we can gradually get into our own skiing, wearing those skis, you might not just bring
yourself into danger, but you could actually ski into another person, take them out
injury them and not just ruin your own day, but ruin someone else's day, that's why we really
recommend you take your time on the easy slopes, build confidence and then go off as an
intermediate skier on terrain and enjoy. it's similar when you learn how to drive, you're
not racing in a formula one car the next day. How do you actually know you are ready for a
bit more difficult terrain, well when you are able to control your speed through turning that
is the time where you can slightly progress, going onto a little bit more difficult stuff,
but remember, take it easy, you're not in a rush, let's just see this steeper slope where I can
then really ease into it and enjoy the process. It's time to wrap up today's
lesson, keep those things in mind, get the right equipment for your first days
on ski get there in the best shape possible, when you're skiing in the ski resort, find the
appropriate terrain for yourselves, and the better you are the more fun you will actually
have, so try and find someone to teach you. And by all seriousness, skiing is also
a bit about the social aspect of things and enjoy a beverage with your
friends by the end of the day.
