let's look at the standing lineup for the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates who go in one and own is second game Omar Moreno will lead it off in play center Tim Foley the shortstop will bat in the Tuhoe Dave Parker's in right field batting third the cleanup batter Willie Stargell playing first base John Milner will bat 5th he'll play left-field Bill Madlock is batting sixth and playing third edik will do the catching agenda in bat seventh Phil garner batting eighth and playing second and Big Jim baby 12 and four want to know what the Reds this year that is also his lifetime against them so that is it the top third Marino Foley Parker the middle third Stargell Milner Matlock the bottom third op gunner and Bibby for the Reds Dave Collins will lead it off and playwright Joe Morgan second base batting second Dave concepción is the shortstop hitting third George Foster the left fielder is batting cleanup Johnny Bench will do the catching and hit fifth dan driessen's at first base and he'll bat six Ray Knight at third base and he'll be batting seventh for John McNamara's Reds Cesaire Geronimo in center batting eighth than Frank Pastore with a record of six and seven oh and one with the Bucks that is also his lifetime because he was a rookie this year he's an impressive pitcher and as the Reds faked the field past Oriole be headed for the hill in a moment with this lineup but the top third Collins Morgan and concepción in the middle three faster Benson Driessen the bottom third Knight Geronimo and pastori Pastore now as you see just going across the line he's a flamethrower with the two guys going here today Nelson Briles it's possible they might have to measure the mileage on the Richter scale rather than miles per hour they both can bring it they certainly do and we faced frank fitori in his first major league appearance and even though we knocked him out somewhere in around the fourth inning he was still throwing the ball very well was sent to the minor leagues has since come back and established himself as their number two pitcher in their rotation throws the ball very well in all fairness to in the day we knocked him out he was really put on the spot that but the day Seaver tried to warm up a couple of times and I don't mean just briefly he was done in that bullpen that story really went to the hill in that game on short notice they certainly did and it's difficult to prepare for a game when when at the last minute they said hey the starter can't make it you're in there and it's his first major league start it's against a fine pirate ballclub a lot of pressure was put on him and maybe that's one thing that has helped him have the success later in the year alright his battery mate is Johnny Bench their infield first around a third 22 Dan Driessen is it furnished Joe Morgan number eight at second shirt stop Davey concepción number 13 is the shortstop ray Knight 25 at third in centerfield today they've changed it it'll be safer Geronimo number 20 since we're studying the right-hander George Foster their kingpin and left number 15 and Dave Cowens 29 in right pirate coaches r-rahman check at first Joe Lynette a third Pastore is getting close now to being ready and Johnny Bench directing the youngster well last night there were so many things that went according to the script of the 79 pirates gars home run got us off and going the sacrifice fly by Foley I thought that one of the keys and one of the turning points was when bench got the triple and they did not score another one was of course the outstanding infield play again by Matlock and Foley and Giner and Stargell they all came in for a piece of the credit there with the double plays and the other fine play on the infield I thought the versatility came through along with the bullpen that was one of the big points that I tried to make during yesterday's pregame and also on other shows over the weekend that when we got here the maneuverability that Chuck Tanner had would help him when we that come to the front last night when he pinch ran for Foley is regular shortstop and we went on to get the big home run from Stargell and take the one game edge Marino is ready we're all ready and the first pitch of this game from Pastore is a strike and we're underway Moreno last night was 1 for 5 their center fielders planting straightaway the other two outfielders are Phan toward the foul lines fouled off and it's strike 2 to the Antelope Foley will be max then Parker it broke out into a beautiful day ideal for the players here another day one of pitchers got a feel like he's pumped up when he gets out here today well today it's a beautiful day to pitch nice cool breeze blowing thing to might come into play later in the game was a Sun field and left bouncer margin made it close but they got a minute's one away margin to Driessen sucked him to first Moreno out on the ground ball it looked as though maybe Morgan had just ever so slightly a bit of trouble getting that ball loose to get it out of there Omar hits the ball up the middle just a little bit Morgan playing him relatively up the middle has a little trouble of putting a clean handle on it and with a speed of Moreno you can't take anything for granted almost beat the play but Morgan got him in time here's Tim Foley went 2 for 4 last night drove in a run with a sacrifice fly he's playing on two legs that have really got him gimpy boy there for the strike if this were the part of the season where you get afforded we've got about five guys who need a week off but not today bounced foul and it's strike 2 so past story gets out in front of both of the hitters ended up getting Marino on a ground ball let's see what he does with Foley the Reds who won the last bye game and a half the Bucs who won the East by 2 both came strong after the all-star game to do it each team had to go into the final weekend indeed the Pirates the final day to put it away almost chased that breaking ball as he threw it in the dirt but laid off and it's 1 & 2 no game tomorrow next game will be Friday at Three Rivers do not know who our pitcher will be they will start lacoste here's the one to fly ball right-center Geronimo has the speed to be there easily and it's two down Rowley up to Geronimo in medium right-center now we'll go to the Cobra Dave Parker was 1 for 4 last night came on strong in the last two weeks he hung out some blue dieters I'll tell you especially in that series over the weekend with the Cubs if he'd have been hit like that around Labor Day and gone on its air Keith Hernandez would have felt some footsteps at the young right-hander Pastore facing parker had a good cut there but fouled it off and it's strike one Stargell would be next there's nobody on in two away you look for edges and you look for lips I say that the fact that Seaver wasn't able to win the opening game and even when he wasn't around their top reliever was the loser that's got to give you a big lift their top reliever hadn't given up a home run in his last 42 games and with Stargell home run coming in the 43rd game manager John McNamara said hey you got to go with your best I went with my best and you beat him he said that has to give a lot of credit to that pirate ballclub no balls two strikes third straight hitter he's been out in front o and 2 1 & 2 and just like last night the first time up copra shows the good eye 1 & 2 to Dave Parker nobody on in front of him 2 down opening inning lat up a bouncer down the right side it'll be fouled about five feet outside the bag what does he throw for his change basically it's a straight change he likes to try and turn it over just a little bit and as we mentioned he has matured since the first time that we saw him he didn't have the confidence to throw that changeup and and snap the breaking ball with as much authority as as he is shown he's going to do today he's establishing his number one pitch and that's his fastball and there are the pirate wives those who were able and those who were invited to come on the trip one ball and two strikes heat upstairs three up and three down so fast re passes the first test against the good hitting pirates we played a half an inning the Bucs go down 1 2 3 the Cincinnati Reds are just now coming into bath it's something to see when the fehb see generation plays the game [Music] my neighborhood I know just where to go to get more for my money across the street for the best dry cleaning for shoes I come here and to get more for the money my family saves we go to our neighborhood Mellon Bank they helped us choose a payment savings account and it feels good to know that our money's earning interest right up until the day we need it like today you get a good feeling for saving at your neighborhood Mellon Bank hi Jim baby getting in the warm-up tosses twelve and four when he stepped into that rotation as the other starter well he really came on and did his thing and especially the two big games against Chicago he just pitched marvelous baseball and as you're looking to see the defense that will show ed out his battle remate Stargell and garner on the right side of the infield on the left side Foley and Matlock the outfield left to right today Milner Moreno and Parker Jim Bibby beat this club once in relief this year that is his victory against them for the season and lifetime they talk about some pitchers maturing later in life as far as doing their best even though Bibby had some flashes of form at Texas and at Cleveland I really believe he's pitched his best baseball the last 10 or 12 weeks as far as doing the things with the things that he does best there's a liner into left center and marina will be right there to take care of columns so Collins who went 2 for 5 last night and made one of the great catches in the game on Parker goes after fibbies first pitch Bibby has great stuff and when he stays with the stuff that really gets him here he can be a tough pitcher well you like the see Jim stay aggressive he needs to challenge the hitters throwing that good fastball getting his breaking ball over the plate and when he does that as he has done in his last two starts he is pitching the best baseball of his career right now Joe Morgan went over for last night veterans second baseman many people say than when he came over in the Houston deal several years ago he was the glue that set up that infield and really had some great years with his bat as well and sent them on to Championships one ball and no strikes Joe Morgan native of Bonham Texas but makes his home out in the Bay Area now battle even it one and one concepción as their on-deck hitter centerfielder and right fielder playing Morgan to pull the left fielder Milner playing in just about straightaway so there's a big gap in left-center that's a foul way back up in the upper deck above the press box down into the mezzanine as Morgan watches the track of that ball one ball and two strikes and marginal surprise you he'll jerk one on you once in a while got surprising power for a small guy you have to be careful what you're doing with it mean it hasn't been able to hit that home run ball as as good this year mainly because of a lot of physical problems the one two from Bibby took a little something off that breaking ball and got it inside too much and it's 2 & 2 in the regular season we were 4 and 8 including 3 & 3 here and a 2 2 served up by the big right-hander then he didn't get that where he wanted it at all he let go of that wrong or it slipped or something because that was way up now he's got a full count on Morgan and he walks a lot he left them in walks again this year he walked 93 times the payoff on the way and he ends up walking him so Martin becomes the face first base runner and he does if I had to face on balls now gotta be careful more than when he's a base runner also well that's been Joe's forte as we take a look at the last pitch from Bibby follows down on the dirt then there really wasn't any question as far as Morgan was concerned but when he gets on that base he also makes things happen much like our Omar Moreno if you walk him it's almost a cinch double David concepción last night played sparkling shortstop and went 2 for 5 with his back Aldus Ensenada crowd coming to life a little bit as Morgan is sent back to the base by Vivi's throw over and you take a look at both of them here Stargell holding Morgan Bibby working on concepción Stargell still likes to have fun even if it is a playoff game it's happy on the shoulder and the conversation would be worth there into Morgan's been a regular at Willie's bowling tournament every fall and they're pretty good friends but not right now he's edging a little and he's going you don't throw him out on that steel stole it clearly on Bibby and we have talked about baby during the year he's here it is again let auth comes out of the chute pretty well but Morgan got such a good jump and knowing that Bibby is slow to home plate figured that just a good jump was all I need he was off and running with a play beats it easily baby with that big long trunk although I would say the second half of the season he improved a lot on holding the runners flyball right field Parker's going to be right there Morgan will not have any thoughts about moving over to third against that rifle and it's two away yeah Joe just goes half way knowing that against that kind of an arm there's no percentage in trying to go to third base and especially with faster coming up faster last night one for three a towering home run the deep left-center he was 1 for 3 with the homer and drove in a couple of runs he was hurt several of the games that we played them this year so he didn't have those big figures against the Pirates that he usually does batting now as you look in from Center and there are certainly all the principals at this moment Morgan the potential run score right there at second Bibby's on the mound foster is the batter Edie drops the fingers and let's see what he opens up on him right here one ball and no strikes and Fibby first playoff experience we talked about those funny Kanna butterflies for these games he's got a few one ball and no strikes really put a wrinkle in that one but it went outside so he's behind this for their two balls in those strengths that's a pigeons eye view of riverfront new balls no strikes Morgan walked after one out stole second while concepción was batting it's now 2 away Tommy's worked in three different spots and missed all three Johnny Bench doesn't get any easier they can throw some bats at you benches on deck over to the right side baby taking a little extra time he'll be the guy that will produce the most perspiration here today even if it is a fall day walked in two walks in the inning now he's gotta look at Johnny bench's faster reaches first there's Morgan at second two down in the opening inning and Johnny banks stepping in last night bench was two for three so with two on and two out bench who came on strong especially with the long ball in the second half playoffs nothing new to this fellow and it seems like he's one of those playoff and World Series and all-star guys who rises to the occasion when the full spotlight is on got that one where we want it got out in front of the hitter something hadn't been doing there the baserunners Morgan its second and faster at first looking down from up above the first base side no balls one strike Fibby agrees to the sign he'd get a strength one count on the Cincinnati catcher power against power that was probably the best fastball that Jim baby is thrown so far this game reached back was challenging Johnny Bench and I certainly would like Jim to do that a little more maintaining the idea of don't throw it down the middle but just try and hit the outer three or four inches in the inner three four inches of the plate it's always changed the pattern hare he fell behind two or three hitters walk Morgan and faster now he's in front of bench Oh two pitch by the fence and Parker's got a holiday bench going to the opposite side took Parker deep just this side of the fence in deep right center field the crowd cheering with their hearts their ball really wasn't hit that well and after it got up it didn't carry and Parker's stayed right with it ran right under it and it's no runs no hits no errors a couple of walks two reds left we have played an inning it's the Pirates nothing in the Reds nothing [Music] here's to the Pittsburgh we know [Music] [Music] we gone to the second and Stargell Milner and Matlock are due up the middle third of the check Tanner carrot here today and as Pastore Tunes it up for the second we'll remind you this copyrighted telecast is authorized under television rights granted by the Pirates solely for the entertainment of our audience and any publication reproduction or other use of the pictures descriptions or accounts of this game without the express written consent of the Pirates is prohibited so the best in the East against the best in the West in the western hometown of sin see the Bucs in the Reds they have dominated postseason play since it began in 69 and Willie Stargell who hit the three run homer last night that wanted waiting here for a moment to step in and lead off the second is one hit last night wish I could always dictate things were going to happen it turned out last night when I said he was hitless and this would be a good start and this is it and the next thing I knew it was over the fence for a three-run homer Willie said that was a type of pitch last night that even if I'm I'm in a big slump that's the pitch that I will still hit that he tried to work me inside then got the ball just down and over the plate a little bit then he said I knew it was gone when I hit it and the ball goes outside to him here for an opener in the second one a no to Captain Willie Milner's on deck Matlock down in the hole stee-rike and it's one-on-one those of us who have been around long enough to see this guy play all these years and have a title of being the MVP slip away one year it just be poetic justice to see him crown it here at the age of 38 to be the MVP a lot of us are rooting for that Matt oh you betcha two balls in one strike two and two the captain doesn't get cheated when he swings and misses everybody who's Pastore working for the red fouled off 2 & 2 I think one of the things that will help willy-nilly is the focus that was put on our club the last week or two and the number of media members from over around the country that came in and saw firsthand not only how great a player he was which they had to know if they had covered the game at all but his influence on the team and all the other aspects that we know that we're with him every day that the other people don't know that had a chance to see firsthand in his home ballpark well that's certainly true and illustrate his leadership there was one point where everybody was saying you know we're tired were hurt Stargell ends up walking to start the second he's the first pirate baserunner of the day and as as Willie got up on the trunk and he said hey we're all tired we're all her we have to grind this thing out get it going and some one of the fall players said yep you aren't playing every day Willie you've just been kind of platooned at first base and he said is that right that's the time he went into manager Chuck Tanner and he said I'm in there every game the rest of the year we're going to do it nobody is going to say that I'm a part-time player anymore and he has done it alright John Milner the left fielder wore a size five counter last night and there's the young right-hander frank fitori stepping into a standing assignment in Game two of the playoffs a Valda Milner you got the Bucks one two three in the first inning with little or no trouble Marino bounced the second Foley flied to Center and Parker's struck out now he's walked Stargell as a leadoff batter in the second starts off with a ball to Milner and a fly ball out of the left field Foster flips the glasses right just short of the edge of the track and it is one away Milner after his counterpart George Foster in left Bill Madlock third base will step in and here it is again on that last swing no no not being able to get clear through the ball hits the ball to left field and we see in past stories follow-through that he has basically a good wind-up gets all the way through the ball and took a little off that with his changeup Matlock went 2 for 5 last night dog he'd like to include that game in his season average that might have been enough to make him a 303 [Music] interesting note that to call be made about Madlock there's a shop too short concepción had to go to the hole a little bit that fired on to Morgan in turn the middleman gets it on to the recent and it's a double play no runs no hits no errors a walk DP nobody left we played an inning and a half as the DoublePlay completed for you there to see just how it happened it's still the Pirates nothing in the reds nothing [Music] a good quarterback does its homework on and off the field that's probably one of the three of us are all drinking a lot beer from Miller he lights got 1/3 less calories than the regular beer and it's less filling plus it tastes great and you know it's important to have a command of facts like that it's middle discipline really you're darn right because if you know every position every option and every formation you'll never get your signals crossed that's everything you always wanted in a beer unless hey listen up favorite fans have you've enjoyed this great season with the Bucs and want to be part of the bucket you should consider becoming a pirate season ticket holder the Pirates offer many different types of plans such as full season night games only Sunday games only add a new general admission season ticket player it's so reasonable anyone can afford it want to know more about it call during the game today 3:00 to 350 80 for further information you just dial three two three five oh eight Oh Danny Driessen their first baseman will lead it off against Bibby in the second nothing but goose eggs on the board as Bibby works to Driessen shot through the right side basic first place headed this game belongs to their first baseman dan Driessen with Driessen on with nobody out and night the third baseman will be stepping in night last night was over five he struck out to end the game Don Robinson came out of that bullpen humming John McNamara's coaches a run plaza at first and Russ Nixon to third so they've got a base runner on in bibby who walked a couple in the first innings going to have to go right back to that stretch it's the first one in and it's strike one to the third baseman Geronimo will be next captain Willie Stargell holding against recent recent sharply hitting that ball getting it between Stargell and gainer on in the right to start the inning ray night pressure didn't bother him as the throw goes over and it's not closed on Driessen I had will go to the split for you so you can take a look at Bibby as he works on night and see what Driessen might have in mind he's got good speed and he's going Moreno will throw to third it will be late how SATA fires and he got back to the Reds first and third the Bucks here with back-to-back singles and with Driessen going he made it easily and we're going to get another look the basic hit and run play the ball was down and over the plate Knight not trying to pull the ball hits it right up the middle and good daring base running by Driessen let the speed take care of himself pulls into third and metal I thought he had a shot at the runner at first but didn't quite get it over there in time as night came back there's the running of Driessen again just taking that look over picked up the ball followed the ball knew right where it was all the time I've runners first and third vivianne a full blown Jam here with Geronimo a left-hand batting outfielder first appearance of this series Cruz played Center for them last night our poll friends going to go to work that's Jim Rooker and a strike did you run him oh a key here if he could get him with a pitcher due up next the Jim Rucker who had a frustrating year with all the injuries in the disabled list a couple of times knowing that he will not get a start in the playoffs you look at the runners Greeson third and there's Knight at first Rooker is the long man here today foul back got out in front of him two strikes Geronimo's staring down at his third-base coach arrest Nixon no balls two strikes Driessen started with a single through the right side then they flip the run and hit on and there's Jim Rooker working in the Pittsburgh bullpen see what he does with an o2 comes up empty oh there's a big one now he's going to be looking at the pitcher that was a very big strikeout certainly was concentrated on throwing good hard stuff keeping it up in the strike zone Geronimo is just absolutely not able to catch up with a good fastball by Bibby in a key situation [Music] and fast Aria will be stepping in runners at first and third now with Driessen speed and a Pastore as some ability as a butter I'd say we got to be awake here third-base coach are learning the runner setting up the play we put on almost any time right now mr. Bibby is airing it out playing good old country hardball there's no no room for finesse you have to go get this man right here they don't want a bunt go for the strikeout runners on the corners with one down second inning no score if they be trying to pitch out of a tough spot here in the second I didn't miss by much it'll even the count that story gonna look down at his third-base coach again Nixon got a little alex grammas enemy must wear out a uniform a week keeps his hands clean one ball and one strike at bivy he's drenched he could work up a sweat pitching in the Arctic must be something down here that's bothering the plate on fire a little bit fall from the bullpen Rooker trying to hump up a little bit God went away from him all right now everybody's ready again get a one ball one strike count on his mound opponent and but there's just one away Powder River and it's 1 & 2 you know actually the Reds if story's going to make it out they would prefer almost that he would strike out so that the next here Collins would have a shot at driving in the runs they do not want the pitcher they hit into a double play 1 & 2 the count as the runners lead at third and first Pastore with a chance to help himself and bibby with a chance to get out of a mess he's going to get that run Hall Greeson will tag Moreno's throw will come to one to nothing lives past story gave it enough of a ride into Sutter [Applause] and the Reds break on top sacrifice fly RBI for Frank foul story babies been throwing that ball by them up there and evidently just didn't have quite as much on that pitch Pastore able to get enough bat on the ball to drive drive the fight of Moreno of the run scoring all right now he's got a look at the top man in there owner Dave Collins who in the first inning lined out to Center and he didn't wait long he got into the batter's box jumped on Bibby's first offering but as he lined at the left center Moreno was right there to grab it runner at first - Oh a and a strike called on calendars Ray Knight who worked the run and hit for them he's at first base and it paid off because the sacrifice fly but best story got three sent home and the Reds are in front one to nothing in the bottom of the second inning bright sunshine here now it was most of the morning then about noon it clouded up but now it looks as though we should have no problem with the weather just sends him back with a token throw it doesn't have a good move he doesn't burn it over there very often he's just trying to keep Nate close that's the way it looks from our dugout in the third base side Collins stepping back up in there showed bunt but took it for a strike and now he's in a hole Owen - that's the skipper of the ridge his first year managing this team brought him to the title in the West Rooker continues to heat up in our bullpen Malins making him wait a little bit [Applause] they've been adding agreement now he's ready night edging but not going breaking ball hung at high one end to Joe Morgan is due up next for sensei is number 25 or a night with a base hit on at first pirates were there black caps today and those gold stars show up a little better the fact they don't even wear em on me gold caps the one to night is running throwdowns going to be so and base for night it's a breaking ball with an off-speed pitch it still comes out of the chute pretty well and I thought fully had a shot but he tags him high and runners in there I think for me Fabi had him I think so because the the runner went in with his bent leg tagged the bag with his bent leg not his straight leg and Paulie thought that he had a shot at him even though he tagged him high right now a runner in scoring position in the person of Ray Knight in the count is 2 & 2 on Collins Reds are leading one to nothing Pastore got Driessen home or the sacrifice fly so a lot of activity here in the first two innings Bibby is throwing a lot of pitches might catalog that for later down the road 2 & 2 Debbie takes a lot of time working quickly is not one of the things that Bibby is known for I had with the runner behind him at second and he'll check back there [Music] strike sob Collins second strikeout of the inning and of the game for Bibby but the Cincinnati Reds scratch first they get a run on a couple of hits a sacrifice fly there weren't any errors in one man was left night who had singled and stolen second was left right there so we played two innings the Reds are in front Cincinnati one Pittsburgh Pirates nothing under our contractual arrangements with the Pirates for this telecast the announcers for this game have been selected by station KDKA TV subject to the approval of the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball club well this has had a chance for another pirate fan at home that has some fun as we play giant eagle homerun sweepstakes and this is it for Harold S Parsons of Pittsburgh a Harold can route the Bucks home during this half of the third if a pirate hits one out of here Harold Parsons of Pittsburgh going to win $400 worth of Giant Eagle groceries and as we go into the third inning it will be the bottom third of the order a dot fill diner and Jim Bibby all capable of putting Harold Parsons on easy street with a truckload of groceries from Giant Eagle and head out last night who was one for five stepping into the batter's box garner who homered last night is on deck reg was one run and two hits Pirates are scoreless with no hits but we're really just going to the third inning Frank Pastore who leads one to nothing drove it in himself with a sacrifice fly working now to a dot and it's ball one they uh pretty much straight away and all the a few spots there's a bouncer out behind second morgan throwing just it nipping at the wire [Applause] so Morgan's come up with a couple of pretty good plays on Marino to start the game and now here on a top well it was a chopper that was headed up the middle five head on might have a base hit but the ball hangs up just a little bit Morgan going over cutting the ball off throws on the run in just nips it out at first base nice play Joe Morgan I had that'll bring up Johnny the second baseman and here's another look fact that he could get that much on the throw almost leaning toward the second base bag that throw had enough on it if he lollipops that thing over us beats it out there's a bouncer to Morgan again comes up on him but Rose on diners out two down in the third though Joe Morgan getting the work out here he didn't have to charge that one that ball was hit sharply those are the canyon where chest protector on huh even when you're playing on the in fear i Jim Bibby I'll step in Carol des Parsons of Pittsburgh is still our Giant Eagle home rotten contestant $400 riding here at Big Piston Jack won he had a couple this year one ball and no strength get eight 4:45 during the season two home runs and five RBIs two balls and no strikes maybe the batter marina would be next Pastore put the run on the board for them doesn't seem out of the question that bivy should be able to counter two balls in those dragons inning number three game 279 nationally Championship Series at riverfront fall free a youngster with a chance of a lifetime here today Frank passed over and a strike to Vivek three balls one strike with nobody on in follow them and two down autumn diner both handled on ground balls by Joe Morgan pirates still looking for the first hit and vivvy ends up walking not only the second pass issued by Pastore to go with one strikeout so pity putting on that jacket bench and pastori gonna have a little chat as they both head to the hill but well that's going on Bibby is moving down to first base Omar Moreno will be the batter Aleman check checks in with Viv's the other walk went to Stargell in the second inning the out of the of the two walks that he's passed out of the two guys with the biggest strike zone's well I think here with with Bibby he just got a little careless and then after he fell behind he was trying so hard to throw a strike he didn't actually throw the ball he aimed it wasn't unable to come back and get Bibby Harold Parsons of Pittsburgh still our contestant there's a flyball into left centerfield going to be easy for foster and the side is been retired [Applause] no runs and no hits no errors to walk the Bibby and he was left no home run was hit during this Giant Eagle sweepstakes inning but no one ever loses here and our contestant Harold s Parsons will receive a certificate for ten Tastykake family packs and a year's supply of daily juice products redeemable at your grocer my next Giant Eagle sweepstakes ending today will be worth $500 we played two and a half Reds won pirates nothing [Music] in the third inning for the Cincinnati Reds Joe Morgan Dave concepción and George Foster will be due up against Jim Bibby was a little late coming out because he was a base runner another great crowd here at Riverfront and that's the way it out of luck Friday when we come home at Three Rivers well clomp it gave you a lot of thrills all year long battled as hard as they could got into the playoffs how to be a big big welcome for this ballclub because they've got some guys who have given you their all in 79 in the Pittsburgh area giving you a lot to be proud of and you gotta show them just how much you think of them by filling three rivers for that playoff game on Friday certainly true and here Jim Febby has got his work cut out for him this inning we have two three and four coming up the big inning for him to try and shut them down because if they get something going early on in the inning they've got the bumpers coming up behind Morgan and Martin walked in the first inning and stole a base they've stolen two bases one in each of the first two innings this is with the breaking ball to Morgan leading it off in the Cincinnati third the 100 from bibs and he got that one in where we wanted it stand it off for the amounts and in the first and miss came inside with that one and even that ball and a strike 1 & 2 chill Annette and Harvey headaches are usually pretty hired on Bibby each inning when he's in on that bench there's a high pop shallow left center pulley out Foley's play to make and Foley squeezes it it's one away and by being hard on Bibby I don't mean that there can't anchor is with him they just try to keep reminding him fee aggressive you're better when you do it and sometimes a couple of guys doing it and not giving you a chance to let up just keeps you right on top of your best pitching well it certainly does and they do it in a way that they're more reminding him than anything else and they also want him to be aggressive because it makes him work a little faster right this is concepción who flied to right in the opening inning he's 2 for 6 in the series breaking ball went down an away from him and it's one ball and no strikes it's epsiode batting when nobody on and went away Bibby has walked a couple he struck out two he's given up two hits and he's on the short end of a one to nothing game but we're early it's just the bottom of the third inning and the strike is called to make it one and one on the brilliant shortstop for the Reds David concepción and just as we are proud of Willie Stargell and think he how to get the MVP Cincinnati fans and members of their club will give you just as 20 arguments for this guy they're up the fence bounces back to Moreno concepción standing with a double didn't miss much of going out of here the way Milner acted I think maybe he thought he was going to have a play right at the base of that fence and here it is as he goes back he's checking to see where the fence is then realizes there that it's going to come down off that fence and Moreno will be right there for the carom and it's a double for concepción well it was such a high drive Milo that milord ripped it back with a ball hoping that it would come down at the base of the fence it did not carried into the fence and Concepcion indeed is on with that two base hit so they're right back threatening they picked up a run in the second that's going to put our bullpen to work it'll be Jim Rooker again he's already headed out of the fire end of the dugout going to the bullpen down the left-field line plastered the batter foster walked in the first inning one ball no strikes shock Tanana is going to be watching his big right-hander very carefully Chuck showed him last night he wasn't reluctant to make moves and use a lot of his bullpen use this bench the one Oh spike is in there one ball one strike foster batting with concepción at second Johnny bench's on deck it's the Cincinnati third George posture the last five years been one of the best run producers in baseball and concepción is his target now of course it's up and it's - and why baby must keep concepción and nine because he has base-stealing speed and third base in the minds of a lot of base runners is easier to steal in second so we have to watch it two balls one strike not a level it on foster two and two the front of boobies cap tells the tale of the canopy areas had as the willie stargell awards are prominent it's some big ballgames for us right after that all-star break and then coming down the stretch the two to battle filler so if concepción going back to touch second base he's there with a double in one away Reds about hit the Pirates free to nothing lead in the score to one another pay off do they be thinking a little extra time as he glances down into that bull fencing Rooker throwing for the second straight inning [Applause] walking faster for the second straight time three passes issued by Bibby now it will bring up Johnny Ben bench flied to right in the first inning and here it is again show you the location threw it in the dirt well again a situation where they didn't want to give in to that power hitting George Foster so elected to throw the breaking ball if he wants to chase it okay but situation they didn't want to give in and almost paced around him RB havoc you saw there the pitching coach Ian Chuck Tanner getting together seeing what they think of the work that Bibby's doing here and Johnny Bench over one two four four in the series two on one out there's concepción headed for third the throw is going to be in time a beautiful throw by OTT especially considering that a right-hand batter was right there that he had to throw through early was and I thought concepción had a pretty good jump and as as we said earlier you have to watch him there's a breaking ball down and away odd came up and put it right on the money probably the only type of throw that could got out as sliding concepción he had to be going on his own because George Foster did not go ahead and steal second base he's still at first concepción knows with that look right there that hey I got a go just didn't make it Oh an excellent throw by a tie now it's two away and the pitch defense is a strike two even at one and one there it is again and don't just put that glove down let him tag himself out as he came into the bag I certainly did put it right there and you like Matlock does he stays right in there puts the ball down lets the runner tag himself out one ball one strike there's a high pop Edie and Stargell both moving Stargell play to make midway between the line in the mound and the COTS dealing a big play there and the Bucks get out of it Billy was in trouble with a double and a walk but he gets out of it with nobodies scoring no runs one hit no errors a walk I caught stealing in one left we have played through three another tough tight one just like you expected it after three innings the Reds won and the Pirates nothing [Music] the next three innings are sponsored in part by light fare from Miller everything you've always wanted it a beer and less and it part by Mellon Bank you get a good feeling for saving at Mellon Bank well we've played three of game two in the National League Championship Series Reds leading one nothing the Bucks have been called on they make some big defensive plays already and they've made him nilly certainly have and Jim Bibby although he's been in trouble has been able to come back and get the outs when he's needed them so he's hanging right in there the Reds are playing tough well I'd expect it to be a great series and it has been the crucial game last night pirates winning it now trailing one nothing as we go to inning number four of game two all the color and drama and excitement is here at Riverfront and of course the scene will shift to Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium over the weekend Foley leading off the fourth inning against Pastore and a base set into right field pirates get their first hit of the game a leadoff single by Foley and for Tim his third hit of the series well you know the bucks are gonna come out swinging the first pitch that's anywhere close they're going to go ahead and hit it the best way they can that ball was in on Tim just a little bit but it was up and he was able to get his hands through and serve it over the second baseman's head all right the totals here in the fourth the Reds one run three hits no errors the Pirates no runs one hit and no errors Parker Cincinnati product you'd like nothing better than to do a number on the Reds in this series Oprah won on this ball game and one for five in the series Frank Pastore read starting pitcher one-nothing said to Natalie centerfield Foster plays it off the carpet Foley will stop at second pretty much the same combination we put together in the 11th inning of last night's game paulien Parker with back-to-back leadoff singles so there are the running mates two on nobody out in the fourth pirates in front one to nothing when Parker really hit that ball that ball was starts tonight I have a feeling if baby concepción would have been able to get up high enough to get that ball but he would have ended a blunt landing on his back that ball would have carried him another 10 feet here's Willie Stargell he walked his first time up where's the big hero of last night's game and there were quite a few guys who wore the hero role very well last night pitch is swung on and fouled down the left side out of play strike one Folie a leadoff single to right he's now at second marker after his line drive single to left at first top of the fourth Reds leading one nothing they got their run on the bottom of the second when Frank fest story it a sacrifice fly the Senators scored and recent well hit left-center field foster going back warning track it's over his head fully we'll have to stop it third factor at second startles at second they got two men they got literally hung up will they go hurry back the front of Driessen he's out while we had a traffic jam at second base first it was Parker and Foley that were both standing near the second base bag and fooling with the third Stargell we'll get credit for a base hit on the warning track in left-center field and then is erased as Foster's throat came back into concepción and then on to Driessen it was a footrace to the bag and greased and wanted nilly I guess Paulie was here's the play again he's racing got Willy definitely he just out 8l ran Willy Willy not being known for his feet Paulie must have thought that Foster had a good shot at catching the ball and was going to tag up at 2nd place he was not halfway was going to tag up especially with no one out he could have been on third base head had Foster been able to make that over-the-shoulder catch he couldn't have thrown anyone out and parker feeling exactly the same way now the ball drops in Willy thought hey I got a double for sure Montague just running it screaming hey we'll get back over here come on come on and again he loses the footrace Parker watching the play but we just got jammed up a little bit and it cost us an out so now with first base up and they're going to put Milner on what's the percentages there in that situation is that a half way situation for foliar is that a good gamble to try to tag up on that well especially with nobody out it's a real good gamble to tag up because as I mentioned Foster is going to have to make it over the shoulder running catch and you should be able to walk to walk the 3rd and Parker watching you tag up well again possibly tag up and be able to go to second base but we just didn't get that job done in that situation and Willie more or less running Parker off of second base we got caught in the run-down situation i frank Pastore issues the intentional walk to milder so the bases are loaded for the pirates with fully 1/3 Parker at second Milner at first and Bill Madlock the batter the Reds are leading one to nothing we're in the fourth inning quita baserunning watch that runner ahead of you what's that runner ahead of you Madlock facing Pastore the young right-hander really put together an impressive second half for the reds and he got the starting assignment in Game two [Applause] got him on the ropes we want to polish him off right here don't let them up keep the pressure on top of the fourth apparently something bothering pastor he walked down off the mound Pastore as he steps and stands in the center of the diamond surrounded by pirate base brothers now we're ready bench with a sign for Pastore one ball and one strike twenty to thirty let off the inning with a single to right Parker after his line shot singled over the glove of concepción he's now at second Milner received the intentional walk he's at first one out laughter - shark concepción the Morgan one on the first not in time and the Pirates have tied the game 1-1 fully scores the run Matlock's ground ball they tried for the double play but did not get it just wasn't hit hard they tried to turn it Morgan makes a good pivot but the speed of Bill Madlock beats the play at first and Foley does score on the play Miller coming in on Morgan bad locks at first Parker at third two away in the inning and the batter is catch her head on Morgan made a five play to retire hot in the third one one ball game fourth meant in Game two of the National League Championship Series if they run Matlock in this situation not going in the first pitch that's in for a called strike Parker over at third potential go-ahead run Matlock the runner at first sets up the situation of Matlock and deep steals and they can pitch around a dot but yeah garner hitting behind him bachelors shark concepción throws the Driessen five plays one by Morgan to the third one by concepción here in the fourth the Pirates have tied the game up the concepción play that closed off the pirate fourth the Bucs in the fourth one run on three hits after three and a fitting to play in Game two of the series the Pirates won and the Reds won good afternoon john paul ii has now arrived in philadelphia about 1 hour behind schedule and in just a matter of moments he will celebrate mass possibly the largest mass so far in his six city the Pope is in Philadelphia and rate Tannehill and Eyewitness News is there thank you Ray Tannehill and the Eyewitness News team for that we got out of the bottom of the fourth inning in this 1 1 ballgame matter of fact the totals are even here this afternoon the big play in the fourth inning was the play on the Stargell Paul Foley gonna tag off second base well the first he was going to play it halfway and then he saw the Foster was going to have trouble with it goes on and tags up coming back but then he's reading the play he's trying to see what's going to happen if they get in a long enough run down then maybe he's going to try and help the runner out by by jockeying back and forth around third-base but we just were running with our heads down a little bit didn't watch runners in front of us and it might have taken us out of a big inning Dan Driessen leads off the bottom of the fourth Driessen with a base hit scored the rez run in the second that was indeed a pivotal play and a series of plays on the top of the inning but the Bucks got a run tied it up in one one recent facing Fibby and Biff he's out in front of the left-handed a first base for the Reds no balls and two strikes brain I have to follow them say Shire Geronimo that's her right side garner the Stargell Driessen is that one away [Music] here's third baseman ray Knight at the base hit to Center in the second ball game tied at 1-1 we're in the bottom of the fourth inning these two clubs battling for the right to go to the World Series night pops it up Stargell take a charge and two away [Music] Tippy's not had an easy inning yet he liked to have one here [Music] the centerfielder says our Geronimo he struck out of a second [Music] pirates won the Reg won the last to the fourth jampacked Riverfront Stadium the second game of the series 50p falls behind 2 and Oh his last two starts complete game victories Dale baron not eligible but with the team as is Joe Coleman beby wants to come back and get Geronimo here if he can make that pitcher leadoff the following inning well I'd say of the name Parra look at Taylor that name has been in postseason competition here's the 2 2 pitch struck him out he did get him so that is strikeout number three for Jim Bibby and the Reds go down quietly in the fourth after four innings of play from Cincinnati Ohio it's our becos one of the Cincinnati Reds one this is that you can hurt the buxom during this half of the fifth inning if a homerun is hit our contestant Joanne roughing of Pittsburgh will win $500 worth of Giant Eagle groceries in our Championship Series sweepstakes inning and in the fifth it'll be garner Bibby and Moreno against Frank Pastore Ellie this is Game two now the Pirates lead in the series right now one game to none let's talk about the strategy back and forth in the psychology if the Bucks take it to nothin advantaged go home what's the feeling there would you'd say well then it boils down to the Bucks only have to win one out of three at home and they've done very well at home it's what it does for the Reds and Johnny McNamara he has to scramble with everything he has to try and pull it out winning three games in a row which percentage speaking you know it it's very difficult to do his pitching he will not and not be able to go with any one particular pitcher he can't afford to let one pitcher get in trouble very much he's just going to have to scramble like crazy where we can set and elect our pitchers as it goes Garner leading off the fifth Ryan dr.colin sliding catch a safe garner is safe at first second base umpire Frank fully ruled no catch and are going to have our first major rhubarb for this championship series full a has said no catch here's the second base umpire John Kibler is the right field on fire but I think that fully felt he had the best look at it McNamara trying to cool his club down here and as we've seen a couple of times this year after some discussion an umpire has gone to one of his compadre 'its and asked did you see the ball better than I did did I make the wrong call and in one instance there was a change tall for our benefit but here I don't know if pulley is indeed going to appeal to John Kibler who was down the right-field line now the question would be did he see the ball step on the artificial surface if he felt his own mind that he did then he'd have to stick with his call but fully trying to get reason in here with back Tamara it's a one-run ball game in the fifth inning it's funny Collins came in really hot sing he caught the ball and McNamara was the one that telling Collins wait a minute wait a minute let's talk this thing out and now it's fully that's telling McNamara hey wait a minute calm down we'll discuss this thing intellectually now John Kibler the right-field umpire is coming into the discussion he's the umpire that just come into your picture now it was Pauly who made the definitive call he went running out into shallow right center fields indicating that it was a no catch and the garner is on in the second lighter similar play to the catch that Collins made on Parker in last night's game Frank pulli second based on fire now ed Montague the whole plate of fire walking into the conversation the argument continues on this line drive off the bat of garner as the argument continues practice faster he is warming up on the mound Dave Collins you know I didn't think Collins tucked in all that quickly I thought I'd say it here's the line drive to right will see it from a couple of different angles Collins didn't get a real good start accelerated right at the last minute comes down gets his bub under the ball but I'm sure the question is did it pop out and he claims he caught it and from this angle was difficult to see because his ball was thought he was behind it but here it appears as though he does catch it the ball never did pop out of his glove it appears as though he does make the catch but it was so quick it was difficult I guess for the umpire to make a clean decision it looked like a puff the ball out of his glove momentarily you can see from the way that his glove was turned down towards the ground that there's a split second there where you think that the ball hit the carpet but from this angle here I think it's clear that he made the grass but being the prejudiced Pittsburgh broadcaster they am I thought it was safe all the way this year no no I I thought he made I thought he made the catch from that angle right there that there were three angles that we showed you the second one appeared to give us the best look hang in there Dave nice try but I tell you the way that that second replay that we showed you you can see there here right there you can see that from fully standpoint and full ease on the other side really that he's got to see some baseball there and keep in mind too that the outfielders do not use a closed web that it's more or less an H web in an age pattern you can see a lot of baseball while it's in the glove good point in a good point bevy budding night look ii personally know Morgan and Morgan just does get the corner of the bag so the sacrifice goes 5-4 is gray night kind of this lollipop the ball to Morgan Gardner moved down a second based on the sacrifice concepción they're asking Gardner what he thought of the play here's that fun when they're asking Morgan to stretch a little bit higher than his his true size he makes a fine play and has to stab at that bag twice but the second time in nailed the corner all right so it's diner at second here's the bunt again good bunt by Bibby in placing it down that third base line but night kind of getting crossed up there a little bit taking a look at second base and then not picking up the target real well at first base almost threw the ball away so Gardner is in scoring position with one away and Moreno the batter he's over to has grounded out and flied out one one ballgame we're in the fifth inning fouled out of play strike one this our jackpot inning garner let it off with that single to right and Joanne roughing is our Giant Eagle playoff contestant in this fifth inning pirates with four hits in the game we had three in the fourth inning in scoring our opening run tied the game up at 1-1 Frank Pastore the right-hander facing Omar Moreno Geronimo has it Carter fluffed as if he might be tagging but never moved two away [Applause] [Music] that was just a little reminder on the part of Caesar Geronimo he's saying hey Dave Parker could throw well some other people can throw well but I still got one of the best arms in major-league baseball and I'll just demonstrate that fact right here Paulie steps in he's 1 for 2 in the 4th inning singled to right and scored and gets some action in the Cincinnati bullpen of course now we've got a trio of left-handed batters due up after Foley it looks like the left-hander Charlie Leibrandt warming up they placed him on their active list when they disabled bottom yesterday won one ballgame garner at second two outs [Applause] Rollie batting for Jillian roughing chef Tanner's ballclub won last night five to two and we wrapped up in a one-run ballgame here this afternoon watch out I'll back this way no balls and two strikes that's who it is left-hander Leibrandt [Music] diner off second base to away Frank that story delivers Foley taps it foul off the fence in front of the pirate bullpen or full fare pirate dugout rather really hi have this youngster this left-hander Leibrandt and they activated him when Bill Phantom was disabled yesterday starting pitcher for the Reds this afternoon Frank that story not in front of Poli no balls two strikes Pastore as of yet has not demonstrated the fact that he's able to move the ball with precision he's relying on just as good stuff and trying to throw good strikes challenging our hitters more than trying to spot the ball [Music] they set guider will score pirates take a two to one lead fall rolling down on the corner and Foley is in a second base with a two-out stand-up double two to one buckos lead here in the fifth inning as garner scores from second base Foley gets his fourth hit of the series Tim Foley always been a winner feisty shortstop of the Bucs trying to come in on Tim and he gets that short bet right on through drills it between Ray Knight and a third base bag it rolls down all the way in the corner Phil garner is going to score easily and foster just waits for the ball to come out and gets the ball back in and again that controversial call in right field helped the Bucks as jarda reached on that call went to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on the Foley double so it's him with four hits in the first two games of the series picks up his second RBI of the series Parker steps in one for two two to one pirates leading Pastore delivers and a strike on the outside corner we talked to the top of this inning and Parker is batting in this jackpot hitting for Joanne roughing of Pittsburgh we talked about the psychology the mental aspect if the blacks one out in front two and oh we get a second here we'll talk about the other possibility we took the optimistic view the first time there's a batter up the middle concepción on Driessen go home run during our giant Eagles which takes inning but still whenever a loser here our contestant Joanne roughing will receive a certificate for 10 Tastykake family facts and a year's supply of daily juice products redeemable after grocer our next Giant Eagle sweet baked setting will be worth $600 pirates is a fifth inning get a run two hits and after four and a half lead in Game two pirates to and the Reds won and now here is a tasty break from tasty cake the Pirates would like to extend their most sincere thanks and appreciation to all pirate fans for their fine support during 1979 in LA as I know you know the pirate attendance increased in 79 almost 50 percent drawing over 1.4 million fans to do all pirate fans our deepest thanks and the first were the paid attendance of the 79th season it was the second-highest in the history of free Rivers Stadium citing pirate Vaux love it early has been quite a year and we've taken this excitement right into Game two of the National League Championship Series Delhi to give both sides of the coin here we talked to the top of the fifth inning about if we go out in front - oh now what about the psychology for both clubs if it goes 1 1 as Pastore fouls the first pitch off strike 1 well then the Pirates have to win two out of three as do the Reds we've been we've been a better club record wise on the road than at home but in recent weeks we've played well no matter where it's been so it actually goes back to then you go for two out of three and you want that first game back in Pittsburgh so both managers I would think would be going on out with their best pitcher available on Friday interesting use the word available I would think in the rich case Seaver could not come back until Saturday right yes conceivably so they would still have to go with their their plan was the cost ours is still to be announced two balls of the strike as Pastore is leading off the bottom of the fifth he's surprised that at this point down a run that they're keeping Pastore in the game well we're now into the bottom of the fifth and it's early enough Pastore is still pitching well he's only down by one run if you have confidence that he stays strong and can close the door the rest of the way you can go with me they've had to use their bullpen a little bit now they're number one man being used quite a bit last night so it's not a bad move here to go it's the story bring it to a dead crowd again here this afternoon at Riverfront for Game two of this National League playoff game as you look in from our right-field camera payoff pitch [Applause] there's the president of the National a Chuck Feeney and a couple of the National League general managers just behind him that's a giant play board of the st. Louis Cardinals just be high in the president of the National League they're situated behind the Reds dugout on the first base side and pitching coach Harvey haddock shot Rooker gonna go up to the pirate bullpen they'll warm up for the third time and I'm Ricky Romo is going to join them well that does send a manager in a pitching coach up a wall when you walk the opposing pitcher especially leading off the inning it might be a telltale sign and I know manager chuck downer and a Harvey watch bippy very close because sometimes this season it seems that Jim has been cruising along very well giving up very few hits throwing strikes and then all of a sudden he runs into some control trouble and the opposing team has a beginning Chuck doesn't want a big inning to happen so he's going to stay very close to Jim baby at this point occasion points the first game of the doubleheader in Philadelphia back up at the middle of a month when Bibby went through the first time through the Philly batting order one two three nine up nine down and then ran it in trouble in the fourth and fifth innings Rooker on the left side or Rooker on the right side the left hander from all on the left side the right-hander we're in the fifth pirates leading two to one Dave Collins the batter he is over to in the game 2 for 7 in the series batting from the left side Madlock creeping in from third collins shows bunt and strike one Pastore on leadoff walk Debbie let it go for the lead man to Foley and the erase Pastore Bibby came down the hill in a hurry and teamed up with folded to get the out at second base one to six good play by Jim knew immediately the ball came down to him quickly the pitcher running he had a play instinctively turned and made a good throw to Poli so Collins is on with one away and the batter is 2nd baseman Joe Morgan walked in the first inning and swiped a base and flied out to Foley in left-center field in the third so Morgan is over five in the series pirates to Red's one Cincinnati got the first run in the second when faster a sacrifice fly chase Driessen home then Foley scored to tie the game in the fourth and Foley doubled home garner to put us in front on the top of his fifth inning collins at first he had 16 stolen bases during the regular season Omar Moreno has it in right-center field collins retreats the first base in two away [Music] shortstop concepción one for to pick play in this ballgame was in the third when Concepcion tried to steal third with bench batting and a dock fired to Matlock and gunned him down pirates two Reds one bottom of the fifth inning the scene shifts to Pittsburgh Pirates fly home tonight the Reds will fly into Pittsburgh tomorrow morning Game three of this championship series slated for 3:15 Friday afternoon [Music] and we'll join you at three o'clock for pirate television from Three Rivers Stadium throw the first base the way one of the things that you're hearing frequently here in Cincinnati there's some talk that they might have to reschedule or Cincinnati folks think they might have to reschedule a Steeler Bengal football game that is scheduled for Riverfront Stadium in about 10 days Cincinnati folks think they're gonna have to change it william first feel that we're going to be in the World Series they can play the football game right here at Riverfront we're going to do our best to make that happen Collins at first and two down he's running strike and the throw not in time good play by Garner backing up Collins gets the stolen base [Applause] edie odd really didn't have a chance to throw out the runner there was a slow movement to a home plate on a part of hippy ball short hop holy but it didn't matter Collins had such a good jumping with his feet we really didn't have a chance and he's in there with that stolen base garner alertly and with a lot of hustle is backing up the Play so Collins is unable to go to third scraps being right there Collins in scoring position with two away bottom of the fifth inning pirates in front two to one no balls and a strike on concepción bribe all the right Parker will take charge and the Reds are God in the fifth inning Cincinnati no runs no hits a walk a stolen base in the inning and after five innings of play Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati it's our buckos two in the reds one well just in case you're curious or need some plenty of good general admission sit seats still remain for the 1979 playoff games to be held where else put in Pittsburgh good seats for years said right the playoffs begin in Pittsburgh this Friday that's Game three of the series at 3:15 also scheduled for Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon general admission tickets are only four dollars and they're going fast so do like I have done and stop by the Picard Tire a ticket office at Three Rivers to pick up yours today tomorrow Friday Saturday and Sunday Candelaria I think I think he's thinking about the World Series he might give him that cap from your Baltimore days mine was there that looks like a new one I'd say he comes up with some great hats he was wearing during that final weekend when we were playing the Cubs and battling the Expos for the crown of the East he was wearing the expo hat Morgan who was right let's throw Stargell out [Applause] he's hopeful that that's his next start his next start will be against Baltimore that's what he's open for so maybe he's thinking about it right now put that head on and burn a mental impression in that nine Chuck Tanner by the way did indicate that candy would be a candidate for Game five of this series if there is a Game five look at Joe Morgan handle to play on the Stargell ground ball here in the sixth inning two to one Pirates lead Milner over one looked like he slipped a little bit on this play he did his footing slipped out just a little bit right there we see his foot slipped out but he was still able to recover and make the play Miller pops it in his shadow shudder concepción red truck staff hazard Milner's out two away [Applause] Chuck Tanner commenting before the game about the show that concepción put on last night was a great ballgame it really was an outstanding game and this one got to be right up there 2 and 1 is the score sixth inning pirates want to take a two-game advantage Reds trying to even things up before we move it to Pittsburgh [Music] live all in the center Geronimo has it Pirates are retired one two three in the sixth inning so after five and a half inning to play in Game two of the National League Championship Series it's our buckos leading the Reds 2 to 1 we'll be right back pirate friends if you've enjoyed this great season of pirate baseball and want to be a part of the Buccos in 1980 guarantee yourself seats for the 1980 World Series and playoffs then you should consider becoming a pirate season ticket holder no because the fires have been very versatile they offer many different types of plans such as a full season night games only Sunday games only and a new general admission season ticket is so reasonable affordable anyone can afford it even me so call three-two-three 500-800 for further information that's right they come at you a couple different ways you know hard stuff in bring key stuff away growth season plans Sunday's only got a new left fielder for the FEC's we go to the bottom of the sixth that's bill Robinson takes John Milner spot defensively and he'll take John's number five spot of the padding order Jim Bibby has gone all the way for the Flex Bank Pastore all the way for the Reds and out of it Bibby against Foster bottom of the sixth pirates leading to Diwan [Music] Foster has walked twice [Music] tell me what's the book on George Foster George's of course one of the strongest hitters in the major leagues he likes the ball down and over the place but a big thing that has helped him as has willie stargell is he's learned to hit the ball out anywhere in the ballpark he doesn't try to to pull the ball thus he's he's strong everywhere in the park all he wants to do is make good solid hard contact Johnny McNamara his first year as manager of the Reds and he's gotten the Reg into the National League playoff his fight not having Foster for 40 games losing Griffey for the latter stages of 79 concepción misses a bit and pitching to foster the way that you try and get them out is you try and mix your pitches well and move the ball around don't pitch him any one way at bat I'll back one ball two strikes basically you'll get all the all the pitches so you can't show it to him too much any one time has the ability to adjust he does very quickly he pays attention all your foot hitters pay attention to how the pitcher is fishing that particular day and I noticed he has noticed today that he's walked two times so he's a little more aggressive this time at bat - and to foster will be followed by fetch an attrition the Pirates in front two-to-one taking Jim Bibby to the one-run lead here in the bottom of the sixth maybe the best percentage in the National League this year's prompt wins and four losses that's the ever dangerous George Foster fourth strikeout for vivid roster goes down swinging run away boy what a good pitch it was we haven't been there too many times for that good slider and as we see it didn't break away as much as it did almost right over the top of it good fish fry Jim baby give me the face fetch [Music] Parker made an outstanding running catch on the warning track in right-center in the first inning and then Bench fouled out to Stargell in the third [Music] to one buxley just outside Fraulein see how Bibby works to fetch your first pitch away there's still a good fastball hitter bikes the ball from the middle the played inside he likes the polo ball when he gets a chance Jim getting that breakin fall over when he spent behind and if he does then he should be very very effective the rest of the way [Music] broken bat ground ball to short Koli takes charge and benches out two away pirates two runs on five hits Reds one run on three hits Foley's out of hand in both of our runs he scored our first runner before the double home garner for our second rental fifth [Music] Madlock in to talk to Bibby nobody on two down a little reminder he has two outs we've got them rather easily with a strikeout and a ground ball to short done and now don't let Driessen hit the ball out of the ballpark on you make them take two or three singles to drive this run in so have an idea of what you're doing now and this guy's a sleeper he has good power if they pulls the ball so have an idea of what you're doing that's fall away about off strike one [Music] Irish in front 2 to 1 in game 2 Bucs won the first game in 11 innings last night 5 to 2 on the start to 11th in a homer [Music] both the Reds and the pirates flying their 21st League Championship Series game a new record the old Marquess 20 set by the Oakland A's good fastball blew it right by him [Music] now is he looking for we're the guessing game goes on between pitcher and hitter Fibby shaking off the fastball wants to go to that slider good fit just breaking off the inside part of the plate [Music] which got the impression from that ass reaction he wasn't really excited about going to that in that situation well I knows that more hanging and breaking balls are hit four home runs and a good fastball and he wants to stay away with that hard stuff it is that's a full count [Music] breaking pitch in on 1 & 2 fastball away on 3 + 2 5 step again [Applause] [Music] Robinson makes the graph Creason is half the Reds are gone in the sixth inning Cincinnati goes down in order and after six innings in play from Riverfront Stadium in Game two of the playoffs it's our fuckos 2 in the Reds 1 and Milo will be coming back to join you in the seventh inning moving to the 7th at Riverfront and the next three innings are sponsored in part by Pennsylvania Lottery remember you've got to play to win and in part by your 12 neighborhood and code transmission centers who can put you in your car back together again again everybody mine handles in back with you along with Nelson Bridals to carry you through to the end of this ball game and we come back with a lady pirates are out in front two to one with this total board pirates to five at all RBIs Matlock and Foley Jim Bibby is pitched all the way for the Reds run three NL RBI Pastore and he has pitched all the way also wondering from Nelson trials about Bibby seem to be throwing a lot more breaking pitches in the last couple of innings he has it and is gaining more confidence in it he threw a couple over that last any inning when he was behind the count got them over and then that really made that fastball look good he threw right by some people and a dot jumps on the first offering for Pastore and singles into right field and AH gets his first hit today and his second hit in the series and that is hit number six off Pastore and that's going to put their bullpen to work a look at some of the folks out to see championship baseball in the National League Championship Series and Phil Diner who led off the fifth with the controversial base hit as it turned out how did it look over here I thought he caught the ball Milo I didn't think the ball came out of his glove at all he didn't trap it I thought McNamara's argument that he went on with and you can't tell what he's doing down there but the way he started the point when he then started to leave the field I felt that he felt that the first base line umpire the right-field line umpire should have been asked for help or should have even called to play didn't you think that he was he wasn't arguing with the second base umpire as much as he was he felt that maybe he didn't have the best look that seemed true and we've had you know so many appeals in a couple of cases they've appealed to the other umpire and he's overruled but there Frank Foley said no I saw the ball all the way and there's their bullpen working fair and Tamlyn there a duet quite often even have matching outfits diner with a flyball to left foster with a tough field right now he makes the play but you saw him struggling with it well this is that Sun field we we talked about earlier saying somewhere between 4:30 and and 5:30 in this ballpark it can really get difficult that Sun going down just a little bit and it's the line drive or the semi line drive as Phil garner slips getting out of the box you see George Foster start to peak and he's really beacon right now hiding behind those shades able to pick the ball up and get it back in but it's going to be tough and that might be an important part of this game from here on out and our batter is Jim booby without of first and one down spread away to bunt bunts it going to make bench come out of there to get it throws down to Morgan covering sacrifice accomplished second straight time that he's done it gets on in the scoring position and there's the honor to Elena on it'll be up to Omar Moreno to do some good at last play went to 2 for and here it is again he makes a good bunt right here the execution of fundamentals especially when you're a pitcher this is the way you helped yourself with the bat get that runner to second base and give the rest of your lineup a chance to drive the runs in drops it out Dead's the ball some what makes bench field of all he knows that there's only one play and that's a first base back tamara is out talking the bench and fast story you know when Pippy sacrificed in the fifth inning after Jarrod got none on the ball that they ruled that was trapped I thought that night when he came in on Bibby's bunt that time thought he had a play at second base and concepción was nowhere in the neighborhood and boy did you notice the glare that went on between night and concepción saying hey where the heck are you it's just a good thing night didn't come up throw into a base because the ball would have sailed into Center night just checked it out and saw that no one was there and went ahead and fired the first I think that took a little concentration off of his throw because he almost threw the ball away almost threw a rainbow jab alright he stayed with the youngster and now Omar Moreno over 3 today and 1 for 8 in a series we'll be looking at Frank Pastore Omar's bounced the second flied to left and flied to Center that's at second base with two away were in the seventh eating leading by a run fouled off and it's strike one well this is the spot where you'd like to get that big hit out of the Antelope get on home give it some breathing room River who's struggled early has settled down now in the last three innings and although he's not challenging as many people as he did in the late part of the season he's still getting that glory once it and there's a foul back to the left side and here at Nellie talked about it a couple of moments ago if he's got the confidence in the break involved and go ahead and use it then maybe he'll get that fastball back in another inning or so then he just got something else to go with and all the weapons you can get when you go to this war you'll take advantage of boy you certainly do and right here John McNamara wants Pastore to get out of this inning if he possibly can they'll pinch-hit for him in the bottom of the inning he wouldn't have to use an extra pitcher cuz he's due up third in the bottom of the seventh no balls two strikes 1 & 2 muscle Zeppelin is heater and it sailed that tank Oh head out at second base he let off with a single got the second on the Bibby sack and you can see that I was looking around there to see if that shortstop or that second baseman are going to be playing games with him a story checking and working to oh ma 2 & 2 Tim Foley who's had a couple of hits again today and driven in a run would be next we're in the seventh inning we fell behind in the second one fast story got Driessen home with a sacrifice fly we tied it in the fourth inning when Matlock's fielder's choice got Foley home and then Foley with a double gut Giner home to give the Flex their first lead of today that was in the fifth and we're now in the seventh two to one pirates trying to take a two-game lead in the series line drive left field base hit plasterer charging head-on will challenge the throw toward the plate is going to be [Music] [Applause] Buster's charges the sharply hit line drive to left throws a strike defense who shuts the door blocked it off OTT was out and the site has been retired and here it is again Buster came up winging a watch this bench right there shuts the door he blocks it as well as anybody in the game and I'd had no place to go but run up against the brick wall and the side has been retired give credit to a base hit to Marino but I cut down at the plate no runs two hits no errors one left seventh-inning stretch time for the Reds fans at Riverfront still tight as you can get it here the Pirates - and the red one there are plenty of good general admission seats remaining for the 79 playoff games to be held in Pittsburgh and the first game will be Friday afternoon in the playoffs begin at that Friday date at 3:15 and are also scheduled for Saturday evening in Sunday afternoon general admission tickets are only four dollars and they're going fast again today so you stop by the pirate ticket office at Three Rivers and pick up yours and be out there to welcome these buckos home bottom of the seventh as Fibby works in the seventh a little of the atmosphere here in the Queen City [Applause] [Music] and that's just outside sometimes when I see plaster hit some home runs in this park I think that they're going to end up in that drink picker all right this is Ray Knight one for two edits is found a roommate and here we go in the bottom of the summon foul off out of play and as we go into these bottom three innings Stargell and gainer on the right side of Chuck Tanner's infield Tim Foley and Matlock on the left the outfield left to right is Robinson Moreno and Parker after we got in front Robinson moved into left field that's pretty much of a common thing with Chuck Tanner and our bullpen is working Romo a right-hander in Jackson a lefty Knight with a no ball one strike count he'll be working pop some leather with that one I certainly did and right now from the 7th through the 9th innings Bibby has to keep in mind hey the score might not get any better I might have to win this ballgame two to one so he has to keep in the back of his mind that the ballgame could ride on one pitch be careful of your selection and your location from here on out yep he doesn't have any luxury or any latitude here he's got to be tough and Theo to lined into right center fire over to get it on the backhand balance Floyd that ball bounced perfectly for him in a good effort and he held him to a single well what a fine play by Dave Parker he has to try and get over to tuck this fall off if he can't get to it it's not only a double the fall might go all the way to the wall for a triple the fall comes up just enough baby scoops it up plants himself very quickly and then dares Ray Knight to go on into second base with his fine arm look at that fine backhanded pickup nice going Dave Parker right it's a leadoff single by Knight his second hit of the game he's answering the signs occurs from his third-base coach Russ Nixon and Geronimo who is old for two striking out each of his first two trips is up here now so they have put the potential tying run on as they lead off the seventh good night Geronimo Spurs away and takes it outside for a ball Madlock was coming right up in his face from third and if McNamara gives him the same Liberty that a lot of managers do in that situation in this artificial surface that's got to be tempting for Geronimo seeing that like to come up to go away from that bunting stance and try to chop down on that ball here's the one Oh budding Wow all along the first base side one ball one strike left-hander is grant Jackson 23 right-hander and wreak a Romo 15 they should be ready they have thrown in fact our bullpen has been busy about five innings of this game facially in the first three innings when Bibby was struggling noticeably then settle down in the fourth fifth and sixth would get right back into trouble here in the seventh inning on the leadoff single by night pirates leading two to one they've out hit the red seven before there have been no errors we've seen great defense on both sides in this first game in a hand that's high and it's 2 & 1 now the pitcher Pastore is due and he is on deck geronimo the banner with a 2-1 count nobody out as night leads off at first look at the beach ekang Brunson Stargell with it has no play at second flips behind him to Gunnar sacrifice a template three four on the sack a story will be lifted Spillman will be the pinch-hitter when I saw a fast story come out in the first place I kind of said to myself I'd believe that when I saw it last night McNamara was was criticized for pinch-hitting for Tom Seaver later in the ballgame saying that they you know things were very were tied at that point why would you take your best pitcher out of the ballgame and he said hey I want to use that home-field advantage as much as I can it's the eighth inning if I can score then I only need three outs to win the ballgame and he said that's why I made the move I've believed that all my career and he said why am i why should I change now that's my move I make it I passed re as he is lifted he goes back to that fence and occurs he's the biggest cheerleader right now the pinch hitters filming but before they can work to him I think Harvey Haddix wants to have a meeting because filming hasn't played against us that much they want to make sure what they think the book is the best way to handle him that's right manager Chuck Tanner going through his little private book that only he can read and decipher but they're not on a mound checking things out and I think right here we would be a little remiss Milo if we didn't really give Frank Pastore a little pat on the back this is big pressure situation for him and he responded very well working himself out of situations he did fine and showed remarkable poise and a pinch there along with Joe Morgan Concepcion walkin in front the other fellow there was bill Fisher their pitching coach so they've had a meeting they're going to talk just as long as the plate umpire will let them all right night is it ii representing a potential tying run the left hand pinch-hitter Spillman is coming toward home plate Spillman hit 214 in 43 games he only had 56 at-bats he at 12 hits three doubles no homers no triples and five runs batted in these games just don't get any easier we can't have an easy one but of course championship series none of them are very easy film and making his first appearance up the series against us for the year he was over three [Music] and Vimy probably realizes that with the top of the order coming and the next two batters left-handed he's looking at the guy he's got to get fouled it off certainly does this is this is the key he's got to try and get this man right here get him out and then you've got some flexibility but if he is able to get on Danae set up an inning another jam-packed river front to back their reds and when they pan those cameras around at Three Rivers on Friday afternoon and that's the way it ought to be to welcome these buckos home every seat filled with a pirate fan all right as busy stretches mates at second the oh one and it's in there got even a hole Owen too as he works in the center the diamond the bullpen continues to get ready with Jackson and Romo last night Chuck Tanner wasn't bashful at all he dipped into that pen on numerous occasions and everybody did their job Jackson got the wind robinson to save and to ailing pitchers last night and delirious started gave us seven great innings and robinson earned the save has it and night who had wondered a pretty good distance off second has to hurry back that makes it 2 away the Spillman took baby to the opposite side robinson at that particular time now you notice he didn't have the trouble that fostered it in the earlier in the inning because the ball was up enough he had a good look at it ball got up above the sun and then came down through it it's that line drive in that semi liner that stay right in the path of the Sun it is very difficult to pick up you just try and stay with the fall long enough in hopes it comes out at the last minute where you can see it and here is Dave Collins he lined to Center in the first strike out swinging in the second reached on a fielder's choice in the fifth and stole a base they have stolen three bases today along with Collins Knight has one and so does Morgan for the Reds putting on the pressure here in the seventh-inning nights at second base with two away and the switch hitter Collins facing Pippy they be trying to hold on for dear life to a two to one lead he's come back with a heater has neither sinning certainly has still has the pop on that fastball Collins left hand at being a good low ball fastball hitter you'd have to try and keep that fastball above the waist l balls one strength night stand at the inning with a base hit Geronimo got him to second with a sac pinch-hitters filmin flied to left center to Bill Robinson now Pippy is working on Collins he's over three today he's to parade in the series at a great second half after Griffey was injured now he's in front of him two strikes ballons given the opportunity to play a responded and help the Reds come down the stretch and women he gets in a jam he's gone to that high heart I think he just goes to throwing which is what a pitcher should do what gotcha here's going to keep you here piston fastball one ball two strikes bindi has gotten some of the big Cincinnati hitters out of that slider he got foster with efficient sliders Chuck him out and he broke benches back Ralph all the shorter the tough slider drop the Tanner it'll be interesting to see as we looking back to Mara who Tanner will start he wins since if they want guy he loses be somebody else I think it will be why one ball two strikes second Fibby just reared back and fired the ball Collins is out on strikes that's the fifth strikeout that ends the inning so at the end of seven complete innings here the score Pittsburgh to Cincinnati one and it'll be Tim Foley Dave Parker and Willie Stargell carpets bird if it was ever proof that a manager is smart when his players come through it's been proving these two games last night he took off Seaver trying to get a rally started and was asked and second-guessed about it they didn't score when Auerbach the pinch hitters struck out they had two baserunners on but then the Kobe got concepción into a double play it strategy didn't work and here he sacrifices he pulls Pastore nobody that fight is smart one strike the count on fully lying drive it is a foul ball came out the ball practice party and the first thing I sent in back there there's the new pitcher Dave Tomlin in the 53 bargain but guy that becomes very important with the left-handed hitters on this pittsburgh game but I said to McNamara how many times you already but ask the question why does he take out Tom Seaver he said say the same thing today if they lose women have been a good time had the designated hitter and I wouldn't have had to make the move one two pitch hit hard mark and one hop has it Rison and it's one out the controversial play was on a ball hit by garner as Parker comes up that was in the fifth inning here it is did he catch it or not Collins says yes I did and McNamara was really upset Frank pulling the second base umpire called it I think the three of us in the booth the grade that he caught it where Puli may have lost about what he catches it right there watched college will roll over in the brawl is now out of the view right there from Polly and Polly may have felt that he pinned the ball against the artificial surface that's the time when you might say hey maybe he needed the health from the right field foul either but he refused to take any calling on his own stuff whether there's the strike and they've got a right field umpire John Kibler and they got a left field on fire they got some money off right I wonder what up fires like Jocko come and beans weird when those guys just saying they got too many up out there well back to the old day he I don't think Jack O'Connell the others had replaced from four different angles as Kenny foul a director and our producer what's his name in oh yeah George Finkel off keep it up Don but they've got four hours and then the two foul line umpires Parker beautiful pitch by talent Parker didn't get it out on strikes two outs here's the guy Dave Tomlin that we said could be very important before this series is over they can some outstanding pitches today Parker breaking ball down and away struck him out if Cincinnati's going to stay in it they're going to have to have somebody get those left-handed hitters out and it has to be Tomlin we looked ahead to the bottom of the eighth it'll be Morgan concepción and Foster Morgan's the man Tony pigs to make it go farm and of course Ben little lined up a start Joe takes a pitch outside for fall on Stargell walk face it full file it was start to hit the phone Willie's inviting the public to take part not only by making a donation but also by joining him and other athletes on Wednesday October 31st at the Green Tree Holiday Inn for the auction of celebrity memorabilia and a pre bowling tournament reception the tournament is Thursday November 1st at the North Versailles bowling lanes and of course the public is invited one ball and two strikes and I imagine this year might be the best crowd he's ever had for that because it grows every year plus the fabulous year he's had two balls and two strikes nobody on Holi bounced up Parker's strikeout you only have one strikeout for that story yes just enough for him to get a swing on the house and we understand that our picture problems are all cleared up I told you wouldn't take long look at Stargell given the fancy going over down there because I think that foul tip took a toehold on Johnny Bench and he was telling Willie as we're going to see here right as the fall goes right off is what you can see it on the inside where the shin guard does not cover and Johnny's looking up with Willie hey hit the ball the other way don't foul it off here 2 and 2 2 down 3 and 2 bill Robinson do up next all that protective garb and it always seems to hit you where nothing is protected there's a drive way back into Center it is off the top of the plants Stargell window second and the captain has a double his second hit of the game he's probably saying I knew I could get the second this time in that fight Parker he's in the dugout well again that pitch is in his zone which is down and over the plate Willie extends through it hits a little too high for it to carry all the way out Geronimo finding the fence going back to it beats up but the fall is just about a foot above his glove the ball bounces off that hard wall all the way back in just couldn't get up high enough Stargell it's on second with a two-out double bill Robinson who came on to replace Milner a couple of innings ago is scheduled to bat it'll be his first appearance of the day and John McNamara with the right-hand batter do is going to send Tomlin to a shower and bring on Hume who was the losing pitcher last night now in Robinson bats he'll still be batting for Mike Bishop of library now Mike we haven't forgotten you it's still Giant Eagle homerun sweepstakes ending worth $600 so Hume who looks more like iana be teaching history at Harvard than throwing baseball's but when he gets on the mound he gives you the image that he really portrays and that is bringing it now you pirate fans if you haven't enjoyed this great season I don't know what more it takes and I'm pretty sure you have you'll want to be a part of the Buccos 1980 season guarantee yourself seats for the 1980 World Series in playoffs why don't you consider becoming a pirate season ticket holder the Pirates offer many different types of plans such as full season night games only Sunday games only and a new general admission season ticket that's so reasonable well I bet you you can afford it why don't you find out more about it called 3 2 3 508 o for further information that's 3 2 2 3 1580 Hugh who went to the head of the class out of their bullpen the last half of the season well that he did became that flame thrower they needed out of the thin picking up a Doug Bair who who had been pitching quite a bit and his arm had to get a little tired the second half Jim is 10 at 9 on the regular season with a 2.7 sexy RA made 57 appearances again this is his second in championship play he led their squad with 17 saves [Music] and he'll come in with a runner at second willie stargell two away and bill Robinson will be batting for the first act not only today but in the series and a young left-hander who still got to be pinching himself that he's keeping in uniform with his playoff series is warming up in their bullpen a bouncer too short concepción Ian follows in Gus Robinson so didn't take long for him to do what he was taught on the zoo just amount of a trouble spot and Robinson bounces to show no home run was hit during this Giant Eagle sweepstakes inning no one ever loses here though our contestant Mike Bishop of library will receive a certificate pretend tasting cake family packs and a year's supply of daily juice products available at your grocer our next giant eagle free fake will be worth $700 so no runs one hit no errors and one left we're in the middle of the 8th and grand Jackson's gonna come on to protect the one-run lead it's a pirate's two in the Reds one [Music] it's a long drive going going foul if your transmissions gone foul after a long drive see your local AAMCO dealer grant Jackson who won last night's game and relief is on again and for the second straight game at fob Skinner old sweet swing RB Haddix they were teammates on a Championship club pirate uniform now coaching with us Joe Morgan who has wok popped to short flied to Center and Jackson's first pitch in relief today is a bull I started to say our two starting pitchers Candelaria gave a summons strong innings so did Bibby whoa complete games give me the latter part of the game and I'll try and save it for you - OH - Morgan strike at the knees - it was I'm getting short for Cincinnati they have to start feeling the pressure they certainly don't want to leave Cincinnati without elesif it being down to games doesn't make the future to price Dave Roberts is throwing in our bullpen now along with Romo two balls in the strike [Applause] we drove in Ohio but fortunately it was never fair it went off the bat foul hit it against the facade of the club level here Morgan hold for - today is hold for 6 in the series [Music] Jackson working on him three and two [Applause] and the Cincinnati crowd just as you punko fans do so while trying to rev up their team concepción is the on-deck hitter [Applause] a payoff is do a draft Jackson works in the eighth inning [Applause] him played perfectly he had closed that hole before the ball was ever hit again feeling that Grant Jackson was behind the hitter 3 & 2 I'm sure adjusting with a pitch in a situation he goes ahead and cheats in a hole just a little more makes a fine play manager Chuck Tanner coming out to talk with Jackson I think he's made up his mind that he had him on to only get the left-hand batter because with concepción faster and Finch do Jackson got the one man he was brought on to get now it's up to Romo - look at these right-hand batters guess who has just gone down to warm up the back up Romo none of those against equality so manager Chuck Tanner he's going 1 for 1 he knows that each out now is so very important he wants to go with that two-run advantage Ricky got his work cut out for him as you said he's got the middle of that lineup each with one swing can tie the score so he has to go in knowing that he's got to protect that one-run lead now isn't this a place where Romo who has got a better fastball I imagine that most people realize but if he's going to use the fastball here he's almost got to show it to him or try it when he's ahead if he's going to do something with these hitters and there's Charlie Mews and how I hate the two fellas we've talked about in fact we hit him on it but Montreal one time as they charged the hitters and they're in constant touch with our dugout without on check placing hitters and moving infielders and all the different things and that's what they're doing right there there's all the colored pencils that the colonel has to keep track of the what I wanted to say as far as Romo here he doesn't want to get that ball out over the plate with concepción faster and Finch he wants to show them all those different screwballs here for a while doesn't he he wants to keep in mind how he gets these hitters out and basically he can't pitch these hitters any one way his fastball is not quite good enough to throw them nothing but fast balls but by the same token these next three hitters are good enough hitters to where if you're fishing them one way they can certainly adjust Charlie Mews going over all of those hitting charts want to see where we want to put position the deep end but Romo has to keep in mind hey I've still got to mix my pitches use that fastball to set up my good out pitches which is his fruit balls and a good breaking ball so here I would imagine he's going to try and really spot that fastball having a good idea with it and get those breaking pitches over all right he's ready to go concepción will be batting with nobody on the bases for since E in the eighth inning and one down the Pirates are leading with two runs and eight hits the Reds one run and four hits concepción has a double in the third inning he's 1 for 3 was later cap stealing trying to go to third at that time it really turned an inning around for Bibby because it made it 2 away with a runner at first and really for all practical purposes took the bat right out of bench his hand all right Romo ready it's gonna work from the full lined as you can see and that's a strike call - he opened up with a breaking ball on concepción so this is a chance for Romo to show his stuff boy what a difference a year can make a year ago with Seattle when the last game was played he got on the first plane to may he go he muscled up he was heading for the screen with that one one ball one strike but the difference of the year made here he is in a playoff in the tough national league not the chance for him to really establish himself he had a fine year was fee a ttle but he is still playing for last place don't get that recognition that you really like there's a chance for him to do just that he put the corkscrew in that one with me boy that was a good off-speed breaking ball put her right on the corner and again doing just what we'd hoped he would do using that fastball but getting his breaking pitches over one ball and two strikes 2 & 2 with all that not only does Romo get used the different speeds and the different deliveries but he's got kind of a little different step he gave you that crossfire step run the ball in a taut telling him to keep an eye on this glove now concentrate on this glove two balls two strikes he got that ball right in concepción wheelhouse that time we certainly did wanted to spot the ball just a little bit better but got the ball over the middle of the plate and that's right where David concepción can handle it so he's got himself in a little bit of a jam here with big home run two hitters George Foster coming to bat Laster walked in the first walked in the third struck out swinging and there's that face hit again he hit it like a bullet [Applause] concepción I think is one of their better to strike hitters I think you really got to be alive with him on two strikes and he still maintains enough power he hit 16 home runs during the year that he can hit you out if you make the mistake John McNamara has seemed to fade a little something going on too plain the right-field line umpire in the first place on fire [Applause] you've also got to be alert here for concepción to run Dave Roberts to Luffy - call me the righty in the pirate bullpen all right we'll keep an eye on everybody [Applause] concepción have 19 stolen bases they have stolen three bases today they were all on Bibby [Applause] strike one I wish you'd have thrown concepción that fits 2 & 2 [Applause] Romo rarely throws the first face anymore because they felt the best way to braking of blocking and not getting upset about it was simply to step away from oh and the Reds are charging throat a Foley boy they ought they'd flip that play on a few times this year and it almost worked on concepción he'd taken a pretty good turn so two straight hits off Romo by concepción and plasters and Romo's in a full blown Jam now but we'll never get a work his way out of it here it is on that replay of Parker who likes to see totally get it in by that runner holy really wasn't in a good position that time and couldn't take the throw cleanly well he was on the run we're going to see fully moves down the line to be the cutoff but then as the throw is made he comes back toward the ball and he tried to run catch and tag the runner all at one time was just not able to handle the ball I don't think they had him a second base but it it is a play that they have used and it is a good play because holy candy coy the runner run maybe you catch them just sleeping a little bit well our third pitcher of the inning is coming on Kentico they talked about establishing yourself boy from a guy who had the battle to get to the big leagues it's almost a Cinderella story with Kenta Colby but his credentials they don't lie he's been in too many pressure cookers and come up with the great figures two years in a row and he is going to be called on again right here that he most certainly is and he's in basically the same situation in which he came last night he had to come in with that double play ball in the eighth inning of last night's game with a runner on on second base runner on first and second and if he didn't come in throw that super sinker that he had and boy we just turned to just smooth as silk that's exactly what we need here and Johnny Bench will be the batter concepción will be at second plaster will be at first there's only one out the Pirates with the two to one lead have called on the ACE out of their pen - Colby who's tuning it up now and who can get some extra satisfaction when he does the job in this park because you can almost throw a rock from the mound to his home and there he is Pensacola he came in the other day just at the end of the season it's old manager Chuck Danner he said he would fish two innings in a fist three innings in a row going into the last day he said Chuck I can give you five full innings today they just looked at him and he said you've got a big craze you've been in 93 games for so many innings he said yes but I'm five inning short of last year last year after 235 this Chevrolet fish 130 I've got a half five innings left there's Chuck Tanner filling in that big yellow line up cars that he keeps Johnny Bench oh-for-three today he's 2 for 6 in the series Don Robinson has replaced two Colby in the bullpen he's throwing alongside Roberts and Johnny Bench the batter with two on and one away we're in the bottom of the 8th inning pirates leading 2 to 1 Romo did not do the job he gave up 2 straight hits and justice the Colby was ready Bench stepped out on him bench last night coming up in the late innings with a chance to at least tie the ballgame 1972 came up a chance to tie the ballgame he hit a home run that put the Reds into extra innings they eventually beat us he always seems to be the man that's in that fake spot and he's responded and the pitch he was gonna front that ball anyone looked like he was trying to push it the position of his bath which was odd because bad luck playing back you'd have thought he'd trying to make Matlock make a play but the position of his bat that that ball would have hit it looked like it would have gone up the first base side I guarantee if he de got it down he de surprised everybody in a ballpark because nobody was anticipating that concepción the third fostered a suckin on at the Kobe wild fish that time the sinker became a stinker you didn't want to throw that puts enough here it is again well I think just trying to throw that slider a little too hard as he did trying to strike he hit her out at home for the last out of the season he said I tried to throw that slider 500 miles an hour and I think that's what he tried to do in that situation now you have to think you'll go ahead and fish the Johnny Bench you have a left-handed hitter up next we're in a phone book full-blown situation with bench up there Laster had a little conference as we were having one the leg was bothering him and I think Johnny McNamara is not satisfied that fosters 100% physical right here and if there's any expression on George Foster's face I'm sure that he's a little disappointed they're going to talk it over George is a fine competitor but he hurt that a little bit he's trying to stretch it out see how it feels because right now he represents a go-ahead run and MacNamaras got to be thinking hey if you can't run and they nail you at the plate if somebody gets a hit for us stead of going in front we end up in a tie you got to be square with me and he evidently convinced him because McNamara ran right out of there and with that conference we have another one everybody talking it over the big thing at that Wow pitched it to call me is the fact that can't get that double play now so Chuck tanner more of a little bit concerned here but look at that confidence but he exudes to those players by saying all right all right you can do it runners at second and third one out the one one the Johnny Bench one ball two strikes the on-deck hitter is a left-hand batter Danny Driessen Finch has flied to right off the first grounded to short Nellie pointed on a moment ago it always seems in big situations he gets a chance struck him out holy Toledo what a way to come back after throwing a wild fish boy he just reared back knew that heat that he'd messed up in this situation said hey I got to reach back and do the job myself he didn't even go for location that falls over the middle of the plate right and benches power gets a right by me just challenged him one on one it's his first strikeout of the 6th of the game against the Reds Fibby had 5 in the 7 innings that he worked and here is Driessen he had a base hit in the second he scored the run that they have in this game they're going to put him on here because night a right-hand batter do the intentional pass ordered by Chuck Tanner this will be the fifth walk to the Reds in the game and it's the first one that will be intentional have to keep in mind Grayson's run doesn't mean anything the winning run is on second base so now we load the bases put a force at any any bag in case there's a play way in the hole our shortstop can throw to third our first baseman could go to second base there's a lot of alternatives now for our infielders and it matches our right hand at best against Ray Knight and night that a bat was a bases loaded [Applause] he was the fellow who struck out on the 11th inning last night with the bases loaded against Dan Robinson and you've taken a look at all the runners the Reds have somebody on every face and Kentico be going to be looking at Ray Knight who just found a sensational year for them the third base job was hits to keep or play himself off of in spring training he played himself on and went on to have a good year he's had two hits today two for three he's to parade in a series as he faces cancer Colby with a team ID on every face and to call me trying to hold on to a two to one lead if it belongs to Bibby [Applause] concepción is a third represents the Tang run faster the second represents a lead run greeson's of hers Lane height really leans over concepción motioning in I block right behind him except you know saying make it be right there make up the your fish get a good pitch to hit two balls in those strikes [Applause] took it and it's too long Pensacola's calf colored with Stargell gold is one on there and one of the rows for every win and another in the other row for every save two balls one strike [Applause] the lid on the pressure cooker is wobbling three balls one strike bases-loaded strike call since the colbys been here many times but in this situation it's a whole lot different than if it was the 3rd of May let's see what he does with a payoff bounced foul and naturally the runners are ready to move with the two out and a 3-2 situation this is tough on a pitcher here too when they file them off to keep getting that pitch where you want it certainly does you know that there's no room to beat to be fine or anything else you know that the winning run is now running on the pitch and a face hit is surely going to score a speedy George Foster so this is your key out you got to do it right here one pitch alright he's ready flyball left-center Moreno there Jacoby is out of a full-blown mess and the side has been retired in the Cincinnati a no run two hits no errors intentional pass the Rebs leave three and have now stranded nine in the game now the Bucs will really be looking for insurance we're going to go to the ninth trying to up the ante here with the score the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Cincinnati Reds one [Music] Tom Hill will came on in the eighth inning with two away and got Phil Robinson to bounce out to end out inning is still on for the Reds as we go to the 9th Matlock is due and he's in there there's a sense about a dugout that's got to be wandering they just saw a big opportunity go by the board there's a bouncer too short concepción charges the big house though Matlock is out one away in the fire at ninth or you talk about keys we've had some in two straight days here I thought the the coolest thing of all but he did a maddening takobi I'm talking about after inheriting a mess was wild pitching to runners in the scoring position and then going right after bench I just showed you the two Colby nothing but ice water in those thing he has all the emotions of a rock foul pop-up to the left and it's strike one I should say he displays all the emotion of a rock I'm sure inside there is turmoil I had on who is gone 1 for 3 today had a base hit in the seventh inning one ball and one strength of the honor and diners do up next in the Cincinnati 9th it'll be Geronimo and then a pinch-hitter fouled off thanks we'll take a quick look but it's going to be up 20 rows and it's 1 & 2 there's Tom Hume just developed into an amazingly fine relief pitcher just just something about him when he relieves he charges the hitters a little more there's a looping line drive singled into left off a tots fat his second hit in this game and his third hit in the series and there are some pictures like that because Hume that's his first hit that he's given up and it's the ninth pirate hit in the game compared to six for the Reds but you've seen pictures like that who is starters almost the second time around in a league or second time through the order against the club that kind of got to him as a short reliever I think it was may have been a blessing for him to get that new kind of a role which designer is a strike a lot of times what happens with a first-year player in the lake sometimes he goes out and tries to finesse he doesn't know the league and when they put him in a bullpen now he comes in pressure situations and he stars challenging the hitters letting his good stuff take care of the hitters and a swinging strike makes it Owen to Ongina he's had one hit today three hits in the series one last night was a homer Seaver said that his home run that he hit Garner's was on a good pitch Sieber felt that the biggest mistake he made in the night was throwing foley a slider away with a runner at third because then Poldi was able to get the sacrifice fly to the opposite field and he did make a real good pitch with it either and Foley just being able to reach out there and get the ball deep in him there's the guy that wants to bat Kenta Kovac fouled off down into our little scattering will it ever he's at the far end of the dugout good thing Matt Alexander was one of them he's the quickest guy down there and he got out of the way Tom Hume is allowed just one home run over the last four games end of the year with a 10 and 9 record took something off a breaking ball and leveled it at two and two unfilled Rayner Kentico beaten X that's ed on at first base and Chuck Tanner the head man of Chuck bucks - to smash the third came up on night he's going to throw to suckin and they will force that off that goes 5 4 it comes up with it cleanly that I think they had a chance for the DC but the minute he dropped it had trouble it came up on him then they went for the shore out and Morgan men knew just take the throw don't do anything else yes just as soon as the ball was bobbled and understandably so because that ball was hit on a one hop shot and Knight really basically just tried to knock the ball down he he knew the ball was going to eat him alive a little bit and then came up in a hurry and made a good throw to Joe Morgan Kenta Kobe who doesn't get the opportunity to bat very much went down to check in with Joe Lynette that's right night I think that ball stunning checking his bare hand a little bit kids by the way has fired Tony varam as his hitting coach he said hey I haven't gotten a hit in a long time you haven't helped me anymore this year well after that swing I wonder who the next day oh there we go he's hoping for suggestions diners at first two away ninth-inning strike two remember in the name they will have Geronimo do to lead then to their fence because the pitchers due up second then to the top of the order pirates leading two to one ninth inning hey that's the way that a good old Ifrah teak you don't have to swing it everything I don't care what you do with his bat I just I'm interested in what you're going to do with your arm in the bottom of this inning rocky Mouse dad retired first like that for him third strikeout of a pirate in the game no runs one hit no errors Giner was left and so the stage is set for another one of those photo finishes and if you haven't become accustomed to them by now as a pirate fan at 79 you've either been out of the country or you haven't been paying attention because we're going to the ninth inning in a game that the pucks need to hang on due to come roaring home to an O in this championship series and with this goer will try to hold him back at riverfront pirates 2 Reds won as Kentico me walked down to that hill I gotta believe that one of the things he was saying to him so Nellie is I got to get Geronimo I don't want Johnny McNamara to have the luxury of bringing a guy off the bench to get me in real trouble if he can get the leading lady then they basically cannot sacrifice any more outs to try and get a runner to second base in scoring position so this leading lady is the one you want to get and kids ready boy he's just a drone a couple of pitches candy I'm sure is rooting as hard as he can afford to call to save quite a few of his games this year he'll be ready if we need him later on in the series but right now it's up to kiss the coffee and what he does right here hi and in the bullpen up the left-field line working Robinson a right-hander and Dave Roberts alleppey and Geronimo who is old for two today struck out in the second struck out in the fourth on a foul tip in the seventh inning he sacrifice [Music] Doug bear is throwing in the Cincinnati bullpen and Johnny McNamara no but if something doesn't happen his way in this inning it will be an uphill climb at Three Rivers ball 1 to Geronimo again especially with the bottom of the order coming up the one thing in back of Kent's mind I don't want to serve up a homerun that's a foul it went out into fair territory but it had gone off an instep and it's one ball in one strength Hector Cruz gonna be McNamara's choice just right-handed pinch-hitter they have on their bench right now played centerfield last night that's one a pretty good bat for them lately and does have homeland power I have to call be ready the one one strike is in there one and two Fibby went the first summon Jackson was brought on to start the eighth to get one batter Morgan and he did then Romo got into a peck of trouble - Colby bailed him out not to Colby's working in the ninth on Geronimo who was not in total agreement with that strike Cole was he bounced foul outside first the captain old rabbit and - Colby is you're supposed to do even if it was foul he made the move he could overturn that in case there was a throw coming doesn't hurt to practice it certainly doesn't it defensively we're going to be painting back all the way especially in the outfield we will be more willing to give up a single in this situation and cut the fall off an ally we don't want the extra bases so we're playing deeper one ball two strikes Geronimo fouls it off and it'll hold at one and two remember tonight we are two in in the neighborhood of nine o'clock on a united china at greater Pitt [Music] off day tomorrow we'll be working out in the afternoon the rest will work out in the early evening then we play Friday afternoon 2 & 2 we'll be on at 3 o'clock on Friday just as we were today saturday is a night game if it's needed Sunday afternoon the schedule tip game ball gets away in the bullpen and times alter either that or somebody threw something out of the stance toward mantou at any rate time was called by a couple of the umpire two balls and two strikes [Applause] that is one away on a cage a bond a left-hand hitter second strikeout for teak the seventh red leg to strike out in the game and here it is again that good sinker that's low and away from him Geronimo trying to go out there and catch up with it but comes up that Dean goes down for the third time swinging Hector Cruz will be the pinch-hitter Cruz stranded last night and played Center and he went over four to Colby never faced him last night Candelaria got him three times and Jackson struck him out so Hector Cruz Oh perform the series is the pinch-hitter for Johnny McNamara [Music] batting for the pitcher in the bottom of the ninth and he's waiting for Keeks first offering and it's a swing and a miss Kent appears to have it all together he's got that fall poppin little bones and I think those hitters realized the ball is getting by them before they can get that bat around Chuck Tanner use Bibby is a Snider he gave us seven strong innings Jackson Romo and to Kobe up relieved they have used historic Tamlyn and Hume one ball one strike Chuck Tanner going right for the same book that got him there he's not bashful about going to his pen one ball one strike 1 & 2 now I think that if the pitch will not count I think that a I'm fired down the line at all time that's what it was instead of it being 1 & 2 it goes back to 1 & 1 Oh all right skipper of the Bucks Chuck Tanner deeply involved as you'd expect him today out of the right-center Moreno's Cruz is headed for second and he's in there with a devil tying runs in scoring position with one away in the bottom of the ninth inning at Riverfront it's the first hit off to Kobe it's the seventh Cincinnati hit of the game and now the top of the order will be up there well crews got under it just a little bit but hit it out in the right center Omar knowing that he can let him have basically a single ER or a double but don't let the ball get by him for a triple we're a sacrifice fly would score the run lays it back a little bit was able to pick it off and throw the ball back in so they've got tying run in scoring position with one out Dave Collins a switch hitter Oh bat left he's over for today's 2 for 9 in the series Morgan is on deck now Dave Roberts has got to be throwing in earnest he's been tuning up but he may approach his warmup pitches a little differently now you got a speed merchant at second base Cruz one out fouled it off strike one on Collins he has struck out twice today and gone over for the Reds got to run in the second to lead one to nothing until the Pirates tied it in the fourth and the Bucks went ahead with a run in the fifth to make it two to one and that's what it is right now with the Reds batting in the ninth inning no balls and a strike strike two [Music] right now if the colbys shutting everything out the only thing he's got in his mind right now is a guy wearing a red 29 on his uniform [Music] Kruse as you can see leading off at second represents a potential tying run crews the pinch-hitter who delivered with the double to right-center he's number seven and he's leading off at second [Applause] second straight inning the Tacoma has been in trouble when he got in it and in the eighth he inherited it now here in the ninth the guy at second Jeff they're against him one ball two strikes [Applause] [Music] he's going to dig for suckin and he's going to be safe at second tie game [Applause] so Collins delivers a double right after the pinch-hit double and Chuck Tanner is on his way as you saw Collins hustling in there to second because that puts the go-ahead run in scoring position with only one away in the bottom of the ninth and Dave Roberts I told you after Cruz got that double that it would affect him differently and Roberts is on the way in to face Joe Morgan well you don't think Dave Collins didn't know with that face it meant he was really pumped he knew he hustled in the second base drove in that tying run we see Hector Cruz one who pinch-hit got that base hit Collins knows what a spin and has been a long uphill climb for that young man and now for it to culminate he's in the year that he's had and in it to deliver in this situation you can see him yeah let's go I did it I did it now somebody drive me in so tense the culvert it's just the jab in the 8th but then got into his own trouble in the ninth and couldn't escape you saw Nixon their third-base coach chatting with Collins on at second but on the mound Dave Roberts is tuning it up against the left-hand batter Joe Morgan and it may be that he'll be looking at the only man he's been brought on to get just as Jackson was in the 8th to get Morgan because concepción faster and Bench follow and dine Robinson is throwing in the bullpen but this may be one of those cases where Roberts can concentrate just as hard as he wants to on Morgan trying to get him in the belief from this corner at least the way Chuck played it in the 8th that maybe this is the only man he wants him to get out that is very true and with Robinson backing up Robertson to bullpen we can still bring him in and with a day off tomorrow we might see another right-hander possibly a starter go down to backup Don Robinson there we see that base hit the fall was down and over the plate then Collins just went down and got it hit that line drive in the gap that Parker was able to cut off which was a big move on the part of Dave had that ball gotten by we didn't have much of a chance with triple for sure having to throw off balance just a little bit and not make a typical Dave Parker throw and again we can see how gratifying it is to it Dave Collins to do it when it counts and of course this rally has really got this crowd pumped up too Roberts is our fifth pitcher in the game facing Joe Morgan Morgan today his walk pasta flied out on top [Applause] he is whole for seven in the series all vivy started Jackson Romo sokovia now Robert our fifth pitcher in the game [Applause] one ball and no strikes [Applause] concepción is on deck right of the cloud standing here now after being rather quiet here today after the Bucs got in front back in the fifth inning they now realize that maybe they're looking at an inning that could turn the series around and back even when the Reds head out of here tonight to come to Pittsburgh [Applause] all three [Applause] though Morgan who draws a lot of walks but in this situation he doesn't wanna walk you know almost see him pacing back and forth down there he'll give us that little chicken wing flip for that back elbow makes him tuck it in and he walked him so Roberts who was thrown on to get a left-hand batter walked him on four pitches and suck Tanner's already on his way he once Don Robinson Robinson have saved the game last night for Jackson he's being brought in for a different reason now he's being brought in to try to get us to extra innings because it's 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth Robbins are coming in in another pressure situation but he has matured so much in the last two years that he can handle this type of pressure Dave Roberts going up walking Joe Morgan knew in his mind that once he fell behind Joe he was not the winning run so he didn't want to give it to him continued to throw his breaking balls got behind and finally lost him but did not want to give in and so he pitching carefully ended up walking him so Dan Robinson who was clocked with a fastball at about 93 miles an hour and for a guy who's had an ailing shoulder the last couple of weeks that was really turning it loose out there and he's got to come in now with a full vision that he's got to challenge him concepción he could get that DoublePlay ball send its texture innings concepción had a double in a single today and he's going to be the first man that he faces Johnny McNamara breathing a little easier because his club is getting back in it here it is again on that hip wasn't that bad a pitch not if I was down and over again watch how Davey Parker tries to make the throw knew his momentum was carrying him toward centerfield just not able to get enough on it hit the cutoff man but the speed of Dave Collins allowed him to make the play and like you pointed out earlier if Dave doesn't hustle over and cut that ball off Collins with his feed and go he can run like a jackrabbit he'd have been at third then a fly ball would turn it around so there is Collins he's at suck at Morgan's at first [Music] Don Robinson as the Cincinnati fence that was acquired a couple of innings ago all of a sudden now has some people standing up on the ledge Chuck Tanner always up in front moving around looking out it is right-hander Don Robinson concepción two for four he's had four hits in the series fouled off out of play there it is jam-packed riverfront they've seen another great ballgame just as they did last night Johnny McNamara to prop this team to the Western Division title knowing that if he lost today his fact would really be against the wall to try to sweep three at Pittsburgh has a new lease on life turning and throwing and he got back Foley had cut in behind Collins Robby whips it back there just a split-second late almost took a piece of Collins with it certainly den and it's a pre-planned play as Polly breaks in behind to take the throw but an alert garner who also know the play is on is backing up the play good hustle though Collins at second represents a go-ahead run in sexy Owen who had gone back to work on the fat handle has come into the batter's box again he's got a strike one count all we don't have any easy ones we didn't get here the easy way we had to battle off a Montreal club that took it right down to the last day whoa and to smoke that ball might have left a paper trail I thought I saw a light a light stream coming out behind it but done reach it back and going with his best and he has a lot of confidence in that fastball right now used it last night and it used it so far in his appearance no balls two strikes Diane Robinson look at that intensity Oh God concepción two away in the inning first strikeout for Robinson at first the only man is face it's the 8th Cincinnati player to strike out in the game and here it is again this is one of those unhittable curveballs after throwing all of those fast balls he comes over the top and drops one right off the table concepción more or less just giving a wave as Robinson made an outstanding pitch well that shows the confidence you talked about that he had a moment ago but to go with that frickin ball air a great fish it was not only throwing the pitch but it was excellent location he just executed beaut beautifully here is Foster with two on and two out pylons at second that's the run that counts for them Morgan's also at first bouncer gainer we've got X ratings for the second game in a row well he had him shaded to the right side Morgan was it first and Collins was at second and guy nerd just slipped right over in there got that bouncing ball and Don Robinson for the second day did a great job coming out of that bullpen so they're limited to one run two hits there weren't any errors there haven't been any in the game there was a walk and they leave a pair we're going to go to the tenth inning now the puck bats have to start all over again we've got the top of the order coming up and they have Doug Bair already on the mound with this goer pirates two runs nine hits the Reds two runs eight hits get out of an organization in fact here's a fellow who was traded to Detroit and Detroit was so unimpressed with him they sent him back to the Pittsburgh organization he pitched his way back he's become a fine one and there he is and he had another good year for them certainly has been a fine competitor during the regular season made 65 appearances he was 11 and 7 was second on their staff with 16 saves you'll be looking at the top of the order Omar Moreno one for four Foley to perfor with an RBI Parker one for four so the pirate fats have to do it all over again they had led by a run since the fifth the Reds tied it in the ninth we're now in the 10th two to two they started with Pastore relieved with Tomlin human now bare fouled off to the left side out of play you can ditch that 9 o'clock arrival now it'll be like our stuttering rotation for Friday it will be announced later well we've never arrived anywhere on time all year with these extra inning games of all these flights we've taken why should it be any different that's the way the guys talked the other morning at the airport we were prog din for four hour everybody had to get up at 5:00 or 6:00 in the morning to get away to a nine o'clock start we eventually left about 1:00 and their place it well so what else is new one ball one strike boy did he he went after a low pitch like Collins didn't he surely did and left-handers like that fish down there and just drilled it right in the hole with no problem so let's see if we try to do something here with the face stealing champ the second straight year on Moreno gets his second hit today and his third hit in the series greeting an old minor-league teammate Doug fair with that hip that's 10 hits for the Pirates the Reds have 8 Foley has had four hits in this series a single in a double today two for four he drove in the second run in the fifth inning he got Giner home pirates won last night five to two there's a throw over but he's back easily slowly the batter Arthur on deck then Stargell Moreno edging with the throw over Oh get him back you just get the feeling here that we've got something on and with that good ideal two-hitter Foley who's got the patience and it will help that leadoff batter when he gets on he's edging and the throw over chases him back I believe he was going you know it's on his mind he's not going to change his ways now get that big lead again not going and there's a bunt they're out to get it his only play is to Morgan covering it first so Marino's in scoring position standing there with concepción little playful bump into him so Tim Foley once again does his thing doesn't it he does so many things the contributions add up from him we see Chuck Tanner playing it fundamentally the way you're supposed to bunt that meant a second now we need the pace it depends how Cincinnati wants to play with it and both Tanner and fully know what executing the fundamentals mean to a ballclub and Foley above all is an excellent fundamental ballplayer all right here's Parker he's 1 for 4 today is at 2 for 8 in the series facing a right-hander Doug fair the kapre with a chance to bust us out of a tie here they've got a right-hander throwing in the pen it looks like Sammy info and the left is the youngster we tried to talk about earlier who just made the club at the last minute certainly did replace Bonham who had pulled a muscle in his forearm right forearm honest right then and Davies swinging a little wildly that time was not quite as selective he wants to get a good pitch now that he can drive for the base hit that's all we need right here we'll take more but a base hit is a primary importance Moreno dancing around out there trying to father him a little bit concepción and cutting behind but now he's back that's up high and it's one ball one strike Dave Parker ended up hitting over 300 took a real hot final week to do it lettuce and RBIs and there's pitch to him well he looked that one right into fences myth certainly has and evidently he collected himself right after that first pitch knew he swung at a bad pitch now he's taking a good look and that's what's made stage such a good hitter here the last month balls one strike let's get the Antelope home he's going to come home he's going to be challenged by the throwing arm of foster but this time it'll be off target and pusher ends up at second base foster who charged the ball the first time I was back when Edith was eventually thrown out at the plate in the seventh inning on a Moreno sizzling line drive to left but on Marino's hit into Summit the ball was hit more sharply it was it more at him he didn't have near the angle that he
