developers create move sets for games but so do players hi folks it's falcon and today on game ranks 10 unscripted video game moves fans discovered starting off at number 10 is super smash brothers melee's way of dancing here's probably one of the most famous fan created moves in a video game the way of dash employed by high level players specifically for smash brothers melee if you're unfamiliar that is the gamecube one this ability was either significantly reduced in effectiveness or just completely cut from future games but a lot of players loved how this move added a layer of complexity to the game which is normally pretty mechanically simple like smash brothers melee specifically has a competitive scene to this very day and part of it is because wave dashing so what is it basically how it works is that you jump in the air and then immediately air dodge diagonally into the ground this makes your guys slide forward and keep the momentum going from the air dodge and it makes them slide using way of dashing a skilled player can move much faster around the arena than they normally would by just walking and it adds a ton of tactical options to the game if you master it funny enough this one wasn't actually solely discovered by fans apparently in an interview with nintendo power masahiro sakurai the creator and lead developer on the smash brothers games actually knew about this quirk of the game engine but decided not to remove it because he didn't think it would have a lot of effect on gameplay but instead of having no effect way of dashing completely dominated the competitive scene of the game so the developers did know about it but it was the community that realized just how powerful the move actually was number nine is the meat hook jump from doom eternal in the third level of doom eternal you can get the super shotgun which is just like the regular shotgun but super on top of being really powerful at close range this thing can also get a unique mod called the meat hook shoot it at an enemy and it basically works like the hook shot from legend of zelda quickly pulling you towards that demon so you can blast into the face the meat hook has an actually very handy secondary ability as well you can use it to make massive jumps there are a ton of speed running tricks to be exploited in this game but many of them are just too difficult to pull off for most people this one while not exactly simple is actually one of the easier tricks to replicate all you need is some kind of pillar between you and the enemy you just hook shot and then run to the side to get the meat hooks chain wrapped around the pillar do it right and you'll get flung way up in the air way higher than you would ever be able to jump using this move makes it possible to skip large portions of certain levels if you know how to do it which is easier said than done to be fair as far as speedrun moves in doom eternal the meat hook jump is one of our favorites just because it's actually kind of possible to even tell what's going on with it which is nice at number eight is wall bouncing from gears of war this is when you slide into cover cancel the slide and then aim at another wall to initiate another slide wall bouncing is actually kind of similar to wave dancing from smash brothers in that it's sort of an exploit of game mechanics and not exactly a bug but while wave dashing was removed in all the smash bros games post melee wall bouncing is still alive and well all the way up to gears 5. the principles of wall bouncing are fairly straightforward if you've played gears of war you know that if you're close enough you can press a and you'll automatically slide into cover on top of that it's also very possible to cancel out of the cover slide by pressing back on the control stick now if you have two cover locations close together you can bounce between them by pointing at one cover slot sliding into it canceling then pointing at another cover spot and doing the same thing with enough practice doing this move it can make it a lot harder to hit somebody as they're sliding around constantly rather than lumbering around slowly like you normally do in gears the danger is that it's possible to trigger a roll instead of a slide the roll is a lot slower and leaves you more exposed so this move requires a bit of practice and some timing expertise if you want to get a lot out of it while wall bouncing is still a thing in the gear series it's not quite the end-all strategy it used to be at least as far as i can tell it's pretty damn powerful if you know how to employ it though especially in combination with a close range weapon like a shotgun at number 7 is snaking from mario kart this is another famous move from the mario kart series like have you ever played mario kart with a friend and wonder why they just seem to be way faster than you it's possibly because they're snaking it's not possible in every mario kart game but it does work in a lot of the older ones so snaking is all about drifting the trick is to be drifting all the time not just on turns but even in straightaways because of how older mario kart games worked players would get a small boost of mini turbo just by drifting a little so you can do these tiny little drifts constantly from left to right and get constant boosts even though there isn't any visual effect to it you are going to be way faster it's particularly noticeable and more powerful in the ds mario kart where if you start a race with a rocket boost you can basically keep the boost going forever by sneaking everywhere to say this move is powerful would be an understatement and it is specifically why later games in the series changed it so the drifting only gives you a boost after holding on one for a while snaking is an incredibly annoying and powerful move because once you know it it's almost hard not to do it because it's pretty easy to pull off at number 6 is swimming through the air in spyro 2 and 3. the original spyro games were pretty fun on the ps1 but they were pretty glitchy as well one particularly infamous trick is honestly pretty trivial to pull off because of the glitches it's swimming through the air there's a ton of ways to pull it off but basically what you want to do is exploit the state between swimming and diving to make it so spyro is always swimming even when he's outside the water once you've done it getting around the level is incredibly simple and it's usually possible just cancel the swim and go back to normal if you want to as well spyro is a pretty easy series as it is so it's not all that necessary but it is also a lot of fun to be able to fly around the levels and just do whatever you want just be careful about the invisible death walls those still do the exact same thing that they sound like they do and number five is the ice grenade hover from batman arkham city if you ever feel like breaking out of the con finds the small section of the city you're stuck in during batman arkham city uh it's not that hard actually i mean getting over the massive prison walls is a problem but it's batman we're talking about and that should not be an issue right well it's not if you know a bizarre little glitch that allows you to make batman ascend high into the air like way way higher than you were supposed to go it's this trick called the ice grenade hover well it doesn't really have that name but we're gonna call it that actually pulling this off is surprisingly simple all you have to do is land on a ledge of a building you know like batman would perch on then face the corner and start throwing ice grenade the hardest part of this trick is just getting far enough in the game to unlock the ice grenades but if you've got them it's not really a problem if batman seems to shift forward a little bit after every throw you're doing it right now just keep doing it until batman hits the corner and he'll shift upwards into the air with every single throw this is you on the right track so just keep throwing and batman will keep going higher and higher and higher and it's possible to rise above the clouds and beyond with this trick now just start gliding uh getting over the walls of arkham air cinch at this point the actual outside sections of the city are surprisingly detailed though they don't have any collision or anything so you'll just glide through everything still it's a pretty bizarre and easy trick to pull off and number four is the at ease pose from halo an interesting one because the move is less about making the game easier or allowing players to access parts of the game they shouldn't or about becoming overpowered or what you normally see with this type of thing it's just purely cosmetic it might sound minor but this one glitch is basically single-handedly responsible for halo being a popular game for machinima aka in-game movies and this is one of the main tricks employed by the original red vs blue shorts the move is really simple if you looked all the way down then your character's model head doesn't look straightforward but the gun points down so doing this made it so master chief looked like he wasn't aiming down the gun sights at all time and was standing with his weapon at ease you can tell pretty easily why is so useful if you wanted to make some kind of in-game movie at least it'd be pretty awkward for characters to be talking with their guns pointed at one another all the time this glitch makes it possible to have a more neutral pose sure machinima can be found that goes all the way back to games like quake but it really exploded into popularity with halo and it's this simple little glitch that made it possible and number three is scale in sonic 06 which is just an absolute massive again and this move is a hilarious example of just how broken the game is how it works is ludicrously simple so so simple that it's astonishing that playtesters didn't catch it in fact they probably did it's just the production this game was so rushed that the bug probably wasn't a priority all you have to do is get this purple gem which you can buy from a store which gives sonic the scale ability which just it makes them shrink in size using it at first it might seem like the most useless ability ever because it is never required in the game even once like you don't need to use it to go through cracks or sneak around enemies or anything it's just an optional thing and another thing using this ability is supposed to drain your special meter but a bug makes it so sonic's special meter just never drains so you can leave this ability on indefinitely again it sounds useless but it actually isn't because if you jump you'll quickly find that you can just jump again and again and again and again in the air it's effectively an infinite jump that can easily allow players to get past the boundaries of the game world to just skip through sections you don't want to deal with which i mean it's sonic 06 so that's a lot of the game yes there is for some reason a move that makes sonic shrink and also makes it so he can jump forever can you see why people say this game is a mess and number two is strafe jumping and rocket jumping in quake quake is basically the granddaddy of the multiplayer shooter sure doom had multiplayer but it was quake where multiplayer was king and a big reason it was so popular was because of the level of depth it had it wasn't just a brainless blast on up arena game there was strategy involved and a lot of that strategy came from two unintended places the strafe jump and the rocket jump both of these abilities became gameplay staples of the first person shooters after quake but they were basically unintended in the original game both of these are pretty self-explanatory strafe jumping takes an advantage of a quirk in the movement of the game that allows players to get continuously faster and faster if they move diagonally at the same time as jumping you have to keep a steady rhythm going and it's definitely a thing that takes some practice but once people are able to master it they're zippering around the levels at crazy speed rocket jumping is even more basic though it doesn't require nearly the level of practice that straight jumping does you just hop in the air aim to the ground with a rocket and get propelled through the air and force the blast as you you know don't die from the rocket which is not normal but whatever even more so than strafe jumping this is a trick that still shows up in games to this very day and finally at number one is combos from street fighter 2. this is probably the ultimate move discovered by fans as it basically completely changed the genre and is a staple of fighting games today this is another situation similar to wave dashing where this was a glitch caught by developers while play testing the game and i just left it in and it basically completely changed the direction of fighting games we all know what a combo is right it's a combination of attacks and a fighting game that are input in a sequence more attacks in the sequence equals a bigger combo which equals more damage done to the opponent instead of hitting your opponent once and doing a little damage you can hit him a dozen times and nearly kill him in one shot combos add a huge amount of complexity to fighting games and it would really be difficult to imagine the genre without them at all and it wasn't just combos by themselves that were created because of street fighter 2 stuff like move cancelling links and negative edge all became common fighting game terms just because of this one game and it's kind of crazy how much unintended stuff came out of street fighter 2 it's almost like the developers made a great game by accident of course the developers were quick to start incorporating some of this stuff discovered by fans into the game so we have to give them props for that but as far as moves discovered by fans combos and street fighter 2 is probably the most significant that's all for today though leave us a comment let us know what
