get ready for this one guys this thing is marketed for pulling behind your motorcycle your atv side-by-side trike they're even saying snowmobile so i'm gonna get right to it i bet you're wondering what's the weight on this this is coming in at 389 pounds well that's what the manufacturer says this is so light because the frame is made of aluminum and the body is made of fiberglass now this is a one-piece fiberglass top and sides meaning there's no connecting points where water can get in on the roof or the sides and then on the bottom here is another piece of fiberglass so really it's two molds a mold for the top and then a mold for the floor and this is how they're keeping that weight down so i need to let you know right up front i am not paid to make this video i wasn't even asked to make this video i came down to san diego to see the meerkat trailer and i saw this little lightweight micro fiberglass trailer and i had to show it to all of you now if you don't know me my name is drew my family takes out trailers all through the state of alaska just sharing tips and tricks with you but let's just get you right into this one if you stick to the end i'm going to have two more trailers that are very lightweight and similar to this trailer to just give you a better idea of what's in the market so i've lifted the tongue i've carried this around i'm thinking it's more in the 400 range i talked to the guys here at a little guy trailers they're thinking it's about 400 as well can it be pulled by a motorcycle yes it could probably be pulled by a motorcycle but would i want to do it i'm not sure i would definitely pull this behind a trike you could use this for a side by side easily the idea of an atv or a snow machine that sounds fun too but it is you know this is quite a bit of weight after making this video i reached out to helio to ask them why this trailer felt a bit heavy to me and i found out they actually make three models of this trailer the he-3s is their base model that weighs 389 pounds however the he3s plus which is the model you see in this video it is weighing in at 456 pounds and that's due to the addition of the air conditioner and then there is the he3c version which weighs 605 pounds and this extra 150 pounds comes from adding the insulation and then adding another layer of fiberglass to enclose that insulation so the next thing about this that's neat is that it fits two people and it's as big inside as my 4x8 teardrop trailer but yet the space it takes up is so much smaller and the weight is half the weight of my teardrop so the first thing that stuck out to me was the size of this door look at this this is much bigger than my teardrop door much bigger than most teardrops so you can sit in here in the morning kind of hang out have your coffee still kind of being in and out get that great instagram shot of your feet sticking out i just like that especially for people with limited mobility um putting on clothes so one of the hard things about teardrops is you can't stand up in them but this one you can stay in and still get your clothes pulled on and just have a little bit more movability here and this comes with one of the largest screen doors i've seen for a small camper trailer with the door on the back here it allows you to put almost any side entry tent on it and i guess it's really a rear entry tent right you guys know i've talked about this a lot i think having a tent with a small camper trailer is what really makes this a great experience it extends your living space it gives you what we call our outdoor living room now on a typical trailer you're not able to put any type of tent you want on the side if you had a side door because they'll bump into the wheel wells by having the door back here again it can be any style awning any tent as long as it's tall enough and wide enough you're not going to have those issues of does it fit and having to cut things and make modifications so it's wired for shore power it looks like it's solar ready you can even run outlets off here for running camp you know lights and things like that outside so let's take a peek in this thing you guys are already seeing the beauty of this right look how big this is now as the roof slopes you'd think i wouldn't be able to sit up but i'm way back here not until i get way to the back is my head even touching and then when i come all the way up here i have like eight inches so this is super spacious the walls are covered in fiberglass um it's just fiberglass that's what keeps it light here at little guy trailers they can add what i call rat fur a lot of people call it that it's just really thin carpet that can run these walls and that's going to help a lot with the moisture now when you have just straight fiberglass like this the moisture is going to get on it and it just runs down into your bed but that's also a weight savings very easy maintenance you can wipe it down if you're not in a high moisture area i may leave it but if you were just some carpet on this and you would be in a great place and now talking about moisture there's a fan up here so you're going to get great air exchange and the part that i love about this a lot of teardrops only come with one window this has this huge door and two really large windows that vent across and there are windows that allow you in an emergency situation to get out both of these windows you can get out of now i mentioned we have the fan so that fan is going to help with the moisture and all this air flow this is a pretty good little camper for just feeling more open than you would expect it from the outside so another feature here we have an air conditioner and what i like about this is it doesn't stick out from the side of the camper so for me camping you know is about the fun of camping but i also like the beauty of it i like these trailers to be sleek and kind of a modern design and when you have an air conditioner hanging out the side like an rv it just kind of takes away from that so this does not stick out there it's very clean out front on the tongue i'll show you that in a video it's got a big charging center here it has ac ports but it has pretty much everything you'd need now this sleeps two people i'll show you here in a bit this bed folds up and turns into a couch and normally i'm like do you really need that but i think in this the ceiling's high enough that you would actually benefit from that during the day using this as a place to escape from the rain watch a movie eat a meal that sort of thing how about this did you notice this this is a frameless window it's just a great design so these windows are awning style and this allows you to keep them open during a rainstorm and the rain's not going to come in where you're sleeping so here it is shut look at these clean lines they actually put a little care into this not only to be functional but it looks pretty good too and then you're finding that there aren't as many places for water to catch as well not that it really matters as this is a fiberglass trailer but it's still good to you know not get mold and things like that in these casings and even though this camper is smaller they didn't skimp on the design so as you can see they left leveling jacks on this design which is great for keeping this more stable when you're playing in here during the day and at night when you're going to sleep so i'm going to get down under this trailer as you can see under here we have some independent torsion suspension so what this means is that as you're going down the road each wheel is going to move independent of each other when you're hitting bumps and this makes it so it doesn't bump up and down on the road when you hit one rock on either side this is giving it some nice give both directions and beings were under here do you see that underneath that is all fiberglass so the bottom of this is coated in fiberglass that used to worry me but i've learned over time you know fiberglass is really easy to repair and if for some reason some boulder did make its way through there you could do a really ugly patch job and nobody would know you know it's hidden under here under the trailer and to me it's so much better than having you know plywood under here something you're going to have to worry about water damage and changing it out you know halfway through the life of this trailer here's the only downfall i'm finding about this trailer i am 511 and i'm almost hitting the end here especially if i'm over here on the aircon side the aircon takes up about two inches of space if you're over six foot you're going to have a little bend in your legs when sleeping the base model without the air con gives you an additional two inches meaning if you're six foot two or smaller this should work for you but if you need the air con six foot would be the threshold unless you are bending your knees i'm going to share with you the additional features and specs on this trailer in a second but first i want to tell you which trailers would be competing in the market against this trailer in terms of the lightest trailers out there now until recently this he3s model would have been the lightest trailer on the market at 389 pounds it is coming in much lighter than the very popular mypod fiberglass trailer the mypod comes in at almost double the weight 760 pounds but there's a reason for this weight the helio he-3s is similar in size to a traditional 4x8 teardrop meaning it is 4 feet wide where the my pod is 5 feet wide the mypod also is a little longer in that it can accommodate someone six foot three inches tall and the my pod boasts wood cabinetry and a few extra amenities that would add to the weight and another big difference between these two trailers is that the he3s tongue weight is only 40 pounds or the my pod comes in at 110 pounds both these trailers are similarly priced so to me it would come down to either tow ability or extra amenities when choosing between the two now remember though i said that the he-3s would have been the lightest trailer on the market how many of you know there's a new ultralight camper on the scene and that camper is the earth traveler this teardrop starts at 250 pounds and they get it down this low by using an ultralight composite material made from chicken feathers as ridiculous as this sounds uh it's set in resin and it's supposed to have the same strength or more than carbon fiber so if you're new to the earth traveler check it out i'll put a link in the description below so there's a lot more specs to this trailer i'll throw them up on the screen here so you can see it but it's the simplicity of this trailer that i love this is a trailer you can just get in and out easy you can tow it around by hand move it into those special little campsites there's very basic components on this so you're not going to have to do a lot of maintenance down the road water is not going to be an issue with this capped fiberglass top there's not a whole lot to go wrong on something like this and you can pull it with anything i reached out to the manufacturer of this trailer for the price and they weren't able to give me the price because they allow the dealers to set their own prices so i called around different dealerships and i found the prices to be about ten thousand dollars starting up to about fourteen thousand dollars depending on the model and depending on the dealership so we have a playlist here of other small camper trailers that you may be interested in and don't miss out on the meerkat trailer here the small trailer that you can stand up in but you can still fit it in your garage all right guys until the next episode safe travels
