the world of weering waves has no shortage of potential antagonists you have the discords the sodian and even the fraus all of who have their own personal goals and agendas there is someone however who was mentioned briefly in the story but wasn't expended on any further an individual who may likely have links to the fraus themselves but stands much higher on the overall food chain I'm talking of course about the shepherd or The Outsider we know very little about them though they seem to have an immense amount of power as they are able to grant wishes and conduct Miracles while their identity is supposedly a mystery what if I were to tell you we might actually know who it is and that one of the factions we think is helping us might not have purely good intentions after all that's what we'll be discussing in this video the potential identity of the mysterious Shepherds before we do that though if you are interested in withering waves honai starel or gin impact lore content do consider subscribing to the channel since wethering waves is barely out of its diapers and launched fairly recently some of you might not have completed the story in its entirety as such certain topics and footage in this video will contain some spoilery material so if you want to experience the story for yourself consider this your spoiler warning also just to avoid confusion I'll be using the term Shepherd and Outsider interchangeably in this video they mean the same thing we first hear about the Shepherd from The chii Village Quest and eventually from the fraus member Scar the story essentially goes like this there was once a village of sheep that had to work hard every day in order to survive one day an outsider appeared before them and granted them whatever they desired food shelter safety from predators all were granted and the flock of sheeps led a very comfortable and struggle-free life they revealed the shepherd due to his contributions so much so that most of the flock considered the shepherd to be a god unbeknownst to the flock however is the condition or payment required for these wishes each wish incurred a sacrifice from one of the ships and based on what we've seen can either be an exchange of life or just some part of them they have to give up initially this caus the flock to start dwindling in numbers and eventually one or two individuals from the flock would realize this and point it out but to no avail you see the payment is never collected from the individual making the wish and thus it created a belief system predicated on the idea that you pay the price forward if someone made a wish today the payment would perhaps fall on me but tomorrow someone will pay that price on my behalf when I make my wish plus having lived such comfortable and secure lives the flock didn't mind this exchange as most were unwilling to part with their wishes those that brought to light the payment for these wishes would end up being ostracized and labeled as black sheeps as the flock as a whole did not want to jeopardize their current arrangement though though this was also a rule instituted by the shepherd this is generally the gist of the story but there are a few key points that you should keep in mind first is that while the shepherd was shown to be a humanoid their imag is often interchangeably swapped out with the VIS of a wolf scar also mentions several times that the shepherd was the rule Setter while the black sheeps were considered rule Breakers he also says that the story is one of many and there are multiple interpretations which doesn't matter over all since we can't know for sure which is the truest version at this moment because the main points of the story doesn't change across other versions this implies that whatever the shepherd was doing was nothing more than a measure of control a way to ensure that the flock likely an allegory for Humanity are kept in checked and behaved the way the shepherd needed them to so what do we learn from this little story well first we know that the shepherds are other worldly beings capable of granting wishes they supposedly protect their flock and cast out the centers they also Institute rules that must be followed and they have some ulterior motive related to receiving sacrifices on top of that it's somewhat implied that there are more than one of these Shepherds as the story has happened to many other Villages before based on this who fits this description the most well there's a few candidates but I'm going to start off with the weirdest one first as controversial as this might sound the first thing that came to mind are actually the Sentinels the the so-called guardians of humanity that are said to have been around since the very beginning of civilization itself the reason why I think it might be the Sentinels is because of the many similarities they have with the way the Shepherds have been described to operate the Sentinels are set to guide humanity and assist them since time IM Memorial which as it happens is what the shepherd seems to do as well they guide their her under the guise of protecting them but when needed they harvest from their flock scar also mentions that the black sheep are in direct opposition to the Shepherds but in the story we also see the fraus oppose many of the main nations in game Jinzo being an example opposing the Nations also means they oppose the Sentinels who are ingrained into the way each civilization or city works if their goal was just to take down the Shepherds why pick a fight with these nations and subsequently their Sentinels they even went so far as to kidnap The Sentinel of Jinzo the coincidences and similarities don't stop there however remember how I mentioned that there might be more than one Shepherd given this whole deception has occurred to many different flocks well as it happens each City within a nation is said to have its own Sentinel which if you think about it might be similar to how each flock has its own Shepherd plus if these Sentinels do end up secretly being an enemy of humanity it would fit in with the whole wolf in ship's clothing imagery we see in the story where the shepherds are interchangeably swapped out with a wool this might imply that the Sentinels are a predator hiding in weight among the Sheep perhaps they pretend to help Humanity in order to lead them on a predefined path they wish for them to take then recall back what scar said about how the black sheeps are rule Breakers while the shepherds are rule Setters from what we know the Sentinels or Oracle engines provide prophecies to the leaders of each City and they use these prophecies to essentially govern and protect themselves from threats this sounds awfully a lot like the safety the Shepherds provide their flock plus it's almost as if the Sentinel set the rules here on what you can and can't do just in the name of a prophecy given the prophecies are set to happen at near 100% accuracy do you really have a choice to not following it with how ingrained the Sentinels are to society I doubt anyone would question their motives and most people likely believe in the Sentinels without questioning them what would really happen if anyone goes against the Sentinels would they then be ostracized by the people of their own City even right now I bet you're thinking there's no way they are the bad guys because the Sentinels were introduced as good guys right this makes the entire Arrangement sound IR similar to how the Shepherds function in the story we heard and why it made me suspicious of them follow the prophecies and you'll be safe keeping you protected from the tested discords the wave one phenomena and everything else if you don't well who knows what will happen to you it's difficult to ignore how similar the Sentinels seem to be when compared with the Shepherds but alas as convincing as it might be the Sentinels are not the only possibility in this conversation it's just an idea that I happen to like the most the other possibility is that these Shepherds might actually be the sodian though this one has a lot less evidence to support it the sodian are rather mysterious being since we don't know what their true goals are they may be purely instinctual creatures acting and reacting only based on their needs or perhaps they are actually intelligent and have plans and schemes of their own because of their very brief description in game it can really go either way in the only encounter we have so far with a theodon being over thxs there was a few hints that might tie them to the Shepherds the dreamless was clearly a puppet having their strings pulled by the giant ey thing floating in the background which I'm guessing is the actual throon visually this might be a hint of how the thods might be pulling the strings so to speak to have Humanity behave in a certain way the shepherd entice its flock with gifts and basically manipulates them and perhaps the thians are doing this as well we happen to know that they feed off of collapsed human Wills so Humanity may be viewed as livestock to them you know literally sheeps however visual cues are a bit too Loosely connected for this to be a compelling reason plus there's a few things that might contradict this idea namely that despite the fraus despising the Shepherds they actually want to to resurrect the thians so this seems to be a conflict with their General ideology if the sodian are Shepherds why would the fraas look to resurrect them building off of that however is the possibility that perhaps the fraus specifically scar is just outright lying I mean the version of this story that we've heard so far comes from a Ted Discord and Scar who admittedly is pretty unhinged it's entirely possible that whatever he claims is not the true version of the story and that the Shepherds do have human I's best interest in mind maybe the black sheeps are those that wanted more and more power or wishes and had to be ostracized causing them to develop a deep resentment for the Shepherds the frers right now aren't the most trustworthy given their rather blatant portrayal as antagonist alternatively they could also have some plan in motion here perhaps they manufactured the Shepherds within the story to act as the bad guy so that they may rally others into a war or something because remember that theodan are said to be a reflection of the collective will of humans condensed into physical form born from the Dark Side of Humanity's Collective Consciousness Maybe by creating a fictional bad guy the fadus can accelerate the creation of theodan by making Humanity feel Despair and fear one of the fraus goals is after all to absorb these theodan so perhaps in this way they can accelerate or manufacture the codian they need suffice to say it's still too early in the story at this moment to say any of this is absolutely correct I just found it interesting that the Sentinels and the Shepherds have quite a few similarities in their story and that's really what became the basis of this video it could turn out to be that maybe none of these possibilities I mentioned turn out to be true and that the shepherds are just another group we have yet to meet maybe they are the true gods of weing Wes world or maybe they don't even exist and it's just a story all of this is just theories and guesses at Best of course 1.1 is slated to relase soon with some content related to J The Sentinel of Jinzo so perhaps we might get more context once The Story Goes live again it's still too early to definitively say if any of this is right but I thought it was interesting enough to share there is just too little information at this moment but if you didn't know that's kind of how we roll on this channel it's all just random ramblings and shouldn't be taken seriously with that I'll bring the video to an end let me know in the comments what you think are the Sentinels really the Shepherds or are they someone else entirely if you had fun watching the video do consider liking and subscribing to the channel thanks so much for watching and as usual have a nice day
