like Drake drops a lot of music features albums whatever Kendrick is only put out like three projects more projects in the last decade and they've all like shifted coaches so I'm very intrigued to see meek is probably the last one to really have success on that level and then of course Nick see yg maybe but it's not too many Street rappers that are having that level of success before you got married I mean when you cheat home cheat it on yeah I cheated with cheated on cheated with cheating I mean only one ever cheated on with my woman because black men don't like boys definitely good black men don't but black boys absolutely doing we don't know nobody are we immature and you know we got fragile egos and we tryna [ __ ] do all these other things make us make us feel better about ourselves absolutely all right whooping you know everybody see see the guy right now we see you right now talk about some of the grunt work you had to do to get here at the beginning like what did you had to do when Akiko what was the grunt work at the beginning how long did the grunt work glass was the never point in time in your career when you said hold up this journalism this whole stuff I'm doing is anything it might not be for me wasn't that time but what about this grunt work had to be good like who was who you was we're doing dummy missions well I started off as an intern as Dean anything jams in Charleston South Carolina so I was doing it I was doing grunt work for everybody whether motion director whether it was the morning radio personalities at the time testing Baby J whether it was afternoon personality on yeah I was that dude that wasn't leaving cuz you I think I came from my own the sake line I was selling dope you know I mean I was working at Taco Bell I worked at the mall I did whatever I had to do so to be in that environment which I thought was a very positive environment radio I would stay there all day what else I had to do I'm gonna be on the Block smoking weed and drinking with the home is I like not it's why I wanted to be so I did grow more fat every [ __ ] body like I was that guy with I would drive the station vehicles when they wanted to go I go get him pizza I go get him a coffee a lot of music smoke weed I definitely go to get that from I bring in a we did not matter whatever I had to do to be there I was down to do and they used to want me there cuz I was the guy I can go get the message that they just couldn't pull up somewhere and go get the weed or whatever else so they used to want me there so I've never had a problem doing the grunt work I'm in tight personally I recognized opportunity doing there's not a paycheck attached to it mmm-hmm a lot of kids don't do that like I was an intern from 1998 to 2000 they may put me on I don't know from 98 to 99 and then 99 they put me on they hired me in a promotions Department but I was still doing a grumbler I was getting paid like four or five dollars an hour for and then when I started doing radio in the year 2000 it was the same thing it was still the same pay six dollars an hour I was just on the air now so I was always the type of person when I moved up here from Columbia so I can either to work with Wendy I worked in windy from old 6 to 2008 when he first offered me that gig is like yeah we can't pay you we can give you a place to stay cool I was out like I packed my [ __ ] up and I wasn't doing that nothing handle kids none at the time you know in my mind our wife she was my girlfriend in so that was hard to leave but if you really understand that you know you love something and somebody's gonna be there for you that you had to believe that I had to believe that we wound up together anyway and I was right so yeah I'm still willing to do the grunt work now alright now I talked about the day when I wasn't you know I talk about my life you only need about like five yeses mm-hmm you're white gay yes she gave you a major yes hmm who was the people in your life in your career that gave you dumb big guesses who gave you them big yes is to say next level next level next level and there's still some yeses out there you looking for oh yeah that's a lot of yeses I'm looking for and you write how many did you need five years I just think you need one I want us to change your whole life but definitely um I'm an Cadillac jack in G spin when they say yes to me hosting the morning show on five one five one in New York back in 2010 that was life-changing Wendy Williams saying yes to me being her co-host you know in New York City and my man Mike loved my Glover was a guy who hired me in Columbia South Carolina I have to have gotten after I had quit one radio station in Charleston and then went to go work at another one buy it from there and you know he gave me a yes and I needed that really more than anything at that time because I didn't know what I was gonna do after you know get me fired from Charleston I didn't know anything else about radio I just know about those two stations I may even go do radio and another another market out of town I didn't know that so when he gave me that yes that just opened up my my mind to what the business at radio could be so yeah those three yeses on a professional level absolutely positively changed my life on a major on a major level yeah yeah I mean they put me into positions that that I'm in now a lot of the other guesses that you get at this point in the game they don't even really come from like they don't even really come from you searching for things mm-hmm you know they come from people presenting you things and it's like I'm the one saying yes or no no and you got to make sure you're making those right decisions when it comes to yes you know on your on your person level but that's what helps you get to that next level now there is certain things that you can present like right now now you might pitch ideas and you might have you know ideas on how to take your whatever business it is to the next level and they have to say yes on that but it's really yes or no thing is just like if you don't do it somebody will you know could you you saw the game is that's how the game is you had you at you at that point where you don't have to say yes because somebody will so it don't even matter if the person says no I'm talking about like back in the day when no man [ __ ] and yes meant everything you think technology changed everything a hundred percent a hundred percent you know why because we sitting here doing this right now on a half phone on a [ __ ] iPhone in a tripod like you're you're creating content like they need the license the content that wattles creating like all of these people have all of these platforms of wedding will get the content from the creator of the right in it but no you know what I realized a lot of people that can't how do you feel about this it seemed like a lot of people that can do things in green like down and cut the chair whatever it seemed like we living in the world where all the executives gonna be celebrities now yeah but it's like the athletes and the executive wannabe rappers the rapper's want to be Street [ __ ] and the Street [ __ ] want to be rappers mm-hmm so how do you like like it's like and did anybody talk this coaches [ __ ] to come to the coach of the coaches like what the [ __ ] are you talking about everybody got a plate in position like I agree with you I think that you have to kind of executives you have coaching me clueless executives who just don't know what the [ __ ] is going on out here then you have the executives who who may know what's going on but don't know how to get to people like us and then you have the executives like you say who don't want to relinquish any type of power whatsoever they want to keep power amongst the people that they feel comfortable with like you know you know I started keeping a to me power that probably will take your job you know me but I don't look at it like that I look at that they're creating their own job and whatever you know they whatever gets taken away from me by empowering somebody else cool it's always gonna be another way if you think jay-z give a [ __ ] that Jay Cole one of the biggest artists out right now like no like like a weak side some young boy from Philly who blows up and it's bigger than me ever what do you think meek should really give a [ __ ] no because that's what happens when you're in executive you supposed to empower other people to be better than you so what you're saying is absolutely right some of these people man they just can't get out of the way of still wanting to be in front of the camera as opposed to realizing like nah [ __ ] the Eagle [ __ ] that Fame [ __ ] I'm a cash these checks and empower the next generation all right now you got Bobby squirt in jail right cause to be coming home 2020 dc-6 9 pools become along 2020 mmm Bobby shmurda did everything he posed to be doing that just posted about Bobby uh Oh Ron just posted about Bobby that's me that's what makes all these executives and media personalities gravitate towards people based off what the people that they look at who are doing [ __ ] in a major way how do they view James because they don't wanna feel like they missing out like right now you're not thinking about Bobby shmurda but when he comes on this year and he gets that warm welcome from the culture that's probably gonna be the difference between him you know signing a deal for a few M's are as opposed to coming home to really not much and I'm just trying to catch on that was going on out yeah what about max be the same thing I think like if it's max Tom's homes and cuz Max is very talented you tell us before you win if Matt comes home and he gets that love from the coaching in a real way yes everybody will embracing media record labels whatever the [ __ ] it is you know what I mean it's really just about like we control the cool me got example in it before people even knew cardi did music they loved her example they love your personality they love the motivation that you do all right you know if you need music like you're really this room one time and I'm making a drug transaction somebody I was wit might have been doing something they handled business doing and I remember them just passing the blood around his boys from Florida and so I was hitting the blood and now that I know the smell nobody that Aldo Duval people's Florida Rambo they call it bunk down yeah well no I smelt it but then later on once I realized what it was I'm like oh I remember that I hide at night that [ __ ] was dope oh yeah how many times you didn't ask mosby Street up come on I've never did it again afterwards but I will tell you that was the greatest I ever had and if nobody knew you could get away I was I would do it by accident again not now not at 41 years old but back then when I was in my 20s you he was chasing you when I wouldn't think I would've did it yeah I know where the world I probably would've did it again that I was that I was incredible at 20-some years old not to encourage that [ __ ] at all but I'm not gonna say that's like that wasn't an amazing high the greatest value of a god or so so we will say that you was a smoker could we could we don't handle your handle because then she was a feeling at one time cuz you you like you trying to chase you like that chase I mean yes I did I smoked weed okay what time yes at one point what's the road upper was it in the glass no it wasn't blood alright but it was in the glass and you had a chance now in the [ __ ] with that oh you brought too much crackers I knew what that was listen you know when the heat hit it would turned into crack well you got crack use a hit he's a crack baby he's smooth crackly smoke cuz we turn in the heart she gonna start coming up missing at the station I'm thinking that was literally in my early 20s and I can I don't think I don't forget what that [ __ ] felt like that was a good height I remember while with me my cousin Kendall my homeboys thought wrong and my mail my recipes don't bar there's all the other than me I never forget that [ __ ] yeah alright listen if I'm a young journalist ha ha what game would you get that kid in college right now there's trying to be see the guy that senior that's going to school for journalism you know me there's trying to you know uh what was that ajaan journalism is some mathematicians mass communication what do you tell him right now they listen at this name they don't know they just stuck in between a bra and he trying to figure it out what do you tell him we can they start from how do we go I'm gonna tell you some [ __ ] man I didn't go to college right so being it I didn't go to college I can't encourage anybody to go to college to be a radio person so the person is shooting the podcast to any I would tell you just to be your own authentic self you know when you look at and I got a full wallow in this too when you look at somebody like while oh the reason why low was having success is because he's truly himself you're telling your own unique story you got a story that only you went through so everything you speak on is based off your experiences things that you personally witnessed that's the same way I live my life you know I mean and I'm not afraid to to live my truth right like regardless of what it is I'll tell you about you know where I used to work at I tell you about dope I you to sell I tell you my where I'm at in my life now I'm going to do smoke don't wait for smoke I tell you about going to do therapy now the little my mental health that's major yeah yeah I tell people they always say damn while and I think pay attention to it in the black communities like we are big more we'd be humanize each other to be like we don't want to film it all it's like it's Timmy to go talk to Sam I like I'm in the process of doing that right now I'm going to talk to my cuz it's like you know you always tell me man you crazy as a [ __ ] I don't pay him no attention cuz he's burnt out himself but what I'm saying is just the fact of coz people always ask me why how was you able to come out here and be normal I said I had to go crazy and I had to go insane in order to stay sane like I said on the show and it comes to a point where I was like I really I think it's a problem that I could go into a place where as though me seeing somebody gets stabbed me hearing about some idea raping me every [ __ ] listen check it all out all this gel [ __ ] yeah just be doing my bit doing my time and doing the time to go to go home I'm deep I'm deprogramming myself sorry got a D program yourself so I can reprogram myself and did not walking back out it's like I've seen a bunch of crazy [ __ ] I'm already living my life which is like what I needed like do I need it like tuck because it's like it was it was like it was hard for me at first when I was seeing it to nowhere to me you got it you got to make all this [ __ ] reality yeah so what you mean he said you won't see people standing here about people you read but that's the reality of iron man you got to be able to make that environment just like somebody getting shot in the neighborhood but somebody selling dope this all the reality of the environment and I was able to program our mind there and I was able to escape do books to read to looking at Anthony Bourdain recipes hell he was somebody that always look to and always have escaped but it was like damn to it you know his stuff that I think about childhood growing up he's like I really do need someone to talk to my handle proud of that but but it's not cool in our neighborhood because it's a sign of weakness absolutely asking for help is a sign we and they go wrong with that [ __ ] what you just said is it really [ __ ] man we normalized so many things shouldn't be normal and I think at this age in my life which is crazy the last few years I've done more unlearning and I have learning meaning that I'm unlearning all the [ __ ] that I used to think was normal you know and I think that every environment has everything to do with that it was it's the hood you know what it's the hip-hop culture that we live in like we do have to deprogram a lot of the programming that we receive we got we downloaded a lot of [ __ ] and we got away from our memory now and then download the good [ __ ] and I think that that's what you know dealing with your mental health is like that's what mindfulness is like yeah you should talk to my 20 years yeah and I've been working on this thing I've been trained can I take time when since I gotta be filling in what I write is called the dehumanization of black people about black people and I'm talking about how we'd be human now there's something everything that got to do with being a human feeling emotions we try to get away from all that [ __ ] like that [ __ ] is not cool like it's not cool to be emotional it's not cool cries not like I said I was I used to always crying I was like that was like a semi equal play basketball let you play a basketball town I need to do that [ __ ] like a couple times a week and I'm gonna sell my silly gonna put a sheet up and it'd be cool but it'd be refreshing afterwards but it's like we just got this thing man and I hope and I hope people go out there and talking to people watching me know cuz you go to [ __ ] crazy if you don't if you could you carry any [ __ ] around I gave them cool well units been exposed to me that's why some of these young boys out here they be going so crazy and doing things because they was taught not to feel they've been exposed to so much [ __ ] they seen him mom get violated or something about somebody it's like they normalize sorts of things that shouldn't be normal man in his room and the problem is we walk around with all of this trauma we walk around with all of this hurt we walk around at all in his pain and you know her people are you've heard people hurt people we heard that read distributing that pain to people that looked just like us it can be other brothers it could be all women and that's why you just keep this cycle of [ __ ] going on in the hood and take a lot to shoot a [ __ ] the head like to shoot somebody in the
