welcome back to soviet everything guys today the weirdest most unique egg i've ever came across check it out this is what most people call the thousand-year-old egg the interesting thing is that they have several different names including 100 year old egg as well but none of them are true to make this special eggy usually take weeks not years and if you've ever been to an asian market they always have it available usually they're made with either chicken eggs or duck eggs and let me tell you something opening this up it feels just like a regular boiled egg but we all know it's far from that to make these traditional sentry eggs they usually use a mix of salt lime and ash then they wrap it around with rice husk and leave it for several weeks to ferment i'm sure there's a lot more to it than just that but hey we're not here to make them we're here to try them opening them up is tedious work the shell is stuck to the actual egg and as you can see this thing is black but after trying as careful as possible to remove the shell i got a little bit of the egg white stuck take a look and oh man that's the egg yolk right there it is bluish greenish i cannot even describe the color and another thing that is hitting me that you guys cannot experience is the smell it is a very unique one i'll try to describe that later on together with my cousin and the egg yolk take a look at this it is like gelatin if i put it right here on top of the egg yolk you might not even notice that i took it out now we can take a better look at this egg i've never seen anything like it it is weird it smells funny but it's also fascinating they have been eating this egg in asia for years and i literally cannot wait to try this but obviously we gotta slice it open and see what it looks like inside and as i did oh wow the egg yolk is well i don't know how to describe it the different color variations is insane but most importantly the smell it is strong very strong but from all the research that i have done the smell does not translate to the taste they say it tastes like heaven well we're gonna find that out real soon another thing i found out with my research is that they say that you should not eat this by itself it is way too strong usually they recommend eating it with tofu and i have a very simple recipe to share with you the first thing i like to do is to boil mine for 10 minutes once that's done i just slice them open and plate it up just like this it is now ready for the century-year-old egg but i also decided to make a sauce to go on top of it and it's super simple just a little bit of sweet soy sauce together with green onions and followed by korean chili flakes mix it well and your sauce is done now eating this together with tofu tastes amazing with a century year old egg we're gonna find out if it's good but now that we have both of these things ready i wanna show you my take on the century year old egg and this one i can testify that it is delicious and it only takes one day to make i first started by boiling regular eggs that usually takes 6 minutes for soft boil once that's done i immediately run cold water on them to stop the cooking process then i shake them up on the pan so that it's easy to peel if you do this inside of water it makes the job a lot easier as you can see they come out like nothing perfectly peeled soft boiled egg but now to the important part as always remember exact amount of ingredients always in the description down below for you i started with a good amount of soy sauce followed by white onions finely diced bell peppers and of course green onions then i threw in a good amount of brown sugar you want to mix it well into all of the sugar is completely dissolved and this is what you should be left with now the only thing left to do is to add our eggs so that it can marinate talking about that usually it only takes 3 hours but if you want a nice pronounced flavor of that soy sauce you can leave it overnight this is exactly after 6 hours and for me it is perfect just don't leave it more than 36 hours if not it's just gonna be way too overpowering i like to pair it up with some rice because take a look at this come on which one would you rather eat this one or the traditional central hero egg well i don't know that yet because we still gotta try that one talking about that to try it we're gonna pair it up with some incredible steaks and if you are anything like me you like to buy in bulk cleaning up your own piece of meat is always the best way to go and this one is flat meat but not any regular flat meat this is a wagyu marbling score 7 and it is phenomenal once i was done with the butchering now you can clearly see what it looks like these are some amazing steaks now with incredible steaks like this you don't want to over season them so i kept them very simple with a little bit of salt followed by freshly ground black pepper and garlic powder as always make sure you season both sides now the only thing left to do is to cook them sous-vide and for that i quickly backed them up vacuum sealed them and they were ready for the water bath talking about that i'm gonna be cooking all of them at 135 degrees fahrenheit for two hours that should give me a perfect stick to go along with those eggs [Music] i'll tell you one thing at least to my eyes and my palette my version of the 1000 year old egg looks better okay and if you've never tried what i just made please give it a try just put it on top of some rice it is incredible everybody but i cannot say if it's better or not because we still gotta try that egg that black egg gelatinous thing i don't know but with all that being said i got my steak ready as you know i cooked it at 135 degrees fahrenheit for two hours you should be ready to go so that we can make an incredible meal let's take it out let's do it the steak smells phenomenal everybody i wish i could say the same thing for the egg and i can't wait to find out how my mouth is gonna feel about this crazy crazy experiment at the same time as you know my steak does not look that good because it needs a beautiful crust and for that i'm gonna be using my good old flame thrower so now i say i know it doesn't look that good right now now watch this [Music] [Music] all right everybody here we have our beautiful feast today what's going on here today why mama why are these two hidden whoa the three thing covered you never cover stuff mama look at how beautiful i got some beautiful steak yeah that's are you excited but i'm scared of these i got some tofu you like tofu yeah i could go for something oh you're gonna go for two but you're supposed to okay try it yes go ahead tell me how good the tofu is we love tofu by the way everybody huh huh tofu is good yeah see you're getting happy now right there's nothing to be worried about here okay look it's just a regular egg i know you huh what's up with this egg this is just it's boiled egg well the hell is this yeah i don't know what happened it seems black maybe we got a bad one my mom [Laughter] and it feels weird too it feels weird yes it does what oh mama what are you doing the heck is that can you guys see that it's like amber these were just already peeled for you mama huh wow that's it you do extra work over here yeah these are filled but i wanted to see your reaction smell it tell them what it smell like they already know i got hiccups from me i'm gonna try to get just the egg white white no you gotta try the yolk man the yolk is nice and creamy like we always like it i'm excited for you go cheers tell me ah you're not throwing it away i'm not throwing it up so it tells it tastes ten times better than it smells it tastes better than it smells ah and doesn't taste like much it doesn't taste like much no oh you're getting me curious no i can't wait i'm scared i smelled it nice i went like i was gonna go in like oh it's like you put a break right now you know those are the ones you gotta take a bite without smelling what does it taste like my mouth the the yolk is very creamy uh-huh a little bit less eggy than normal but it still has hasn't still tastes like an egg yolk the the egg whites they're a little bit salty but it doesn't taste like enough cheers everybody like i don't know how to describe it it's like gelatin yeah it feels like jello in your mouth tastes like gelatin i don't like it i'm sorry i gotta try the yolk look at how creamy it is guys let's try the yolk let me see cheers everybody right the yolk is better than the white yeah so here's the deal all right as i took my first bite it was not that bad all right but then the smell got to me ah that's what happens all right it doesn't taste bad whatsoever but the smell got to me i will tell you right now i do not enjoy it i don't know if you guys ever had it but apparently my cousin is the man and he enjoyed it but maybe with some tofu will be better tell us mom we want to know that's how it's normally eaten because i got to cleanse my palate with a little bit of tofu yup egg tofu cheers to you my mom now it's amazing no i don't taste the egg no you're not just the egg no it overpowered the whole thing the sweet sauce it's like i was shocked because i forgot that that's a sweet sauce man so it threw me off a little bit yeah but the flavor of the tofu it just blended really nicely with the with the egg yolk at the end and it just just couldn't taste anything taste anything at all at all it does not taste like it smells right it does not at all now here's the deal this is my version of the thousand-year-old egg i want you to try that one let me give you a little bit of the sauce together with the vegetables yes with the rice and stuff like that cheers which one do you like better come on that's not fair and best part you do not have to wait for months like this one here anyway guys these are the results that's what happens when you try traditional food i think this is one of those things that if you grow up eating it you know what i mean you crave it you know what i mean something like it's weird for other people like i eat popcorn with ketchup and it's weird for a lot of people even my mouth yeah look at that you see i love popcorn with ketchup because when i was young my mom did that for me and it's incredible everybody i love it i have pizza with ketchup eo what's
