happy New Year everyone 2022 has passed and soon so will the Legacy Unity package versions of the vrtet SDK they'll soon be completely replaced by the vrchat Creator companion which you can think of as a VR chat focused version of unity hub so why the switch over in the first place to put it in as little words as possible the Creator companion makes the project management process much easier for veteran creators and a lot more accessible for newer users who have probably never touched Unity before you can create a new project with the SDK you need already imported you can update or even downgrade your projects with a few clicks instead of having to go all the way to the website to download the latest Unity package and curated packages allow you to instantly add Community created tools into your project such as audio link or gesture manager and yes any prefabs or tools imported through Unity packages will still continue to work with the exception of udon sharp which is now embedded in the companion and cyaninu which has been superseded by the client simulator included in the world SDK in the future the Creator companion will add more curated packages as well as house Community prefabs News documentation and many more migrating an existing project to the Creator companion is very easy first head to the VR chat home website go to the downloads section and download the Creator companion run the installer and once you're done you should be greeted by the Creator companion welcome screen please bear in mind the Creator companion is set to receive a UI upgrade sometime soon so the version you're using and what you see here may look different but the overall process is the same click on ADD and select your project folder the project will then be added to your projects list click on it and select migrate you will be given a prompt to migrate a copy of the project or to migrate in place only select migrate in place if you already have a backup of your project though it's unlikely something will go wrong while migrating it's better to be safe than sorry upon selecting an option the companion will work its magic and once it's done you can then open your project foreign if your project has errors it's possible you have prefabs or scripts that expect certain files to still be in the assets folder or were written for Unity 2018. other issues can stem from the project using an older version of udon sharp I'll have a link in the description documenting some of these errors and how to fix them and that's all you have to do to migrate your legacy SDK project into the Creator companion if you run into issues and you need some help feel free to join my Discord and make a post in The Help forums anyway that's going to be it for now and I'll see you next time
