hi I'm Alex Archbold and I've been buying and selling antiques since I was nine years old from basements to scrap yards I'll look just about anywhere I can to find lost antiques and collectibles and sometimes I'll go big and buy everything I never know what's going to happen or who I'm going to meet this is our life this is our adventure and this is curiosity Inc [Music] hi everybody and welcome to today's episode right when I finally just about got my garage space back here with all the stuff from the hoarded house we cleared out that's over the auction as of the filming of this video but I thought hey why not add to my uh woe is my efforts my job here and buy a giant collection of antique toys you know uh sometimes the timing has to be right for a deal like this to go through I've been waiting on purchasing this lot for probably about a year and the call just so happened to come in around the exact same time I was already emptying out that house so I have all of this to sort and go through so today we are going to go through um these boxes I don't know if I'll be able to do this as a one part video this might be multiple Parts going through this estate collection uh and the cool thing is a lot of this stuff behind me came from an old Five and Dime Store I was like an old General Store uh from the 1950s and 60s that shut down in Ontario the guy bought the inventory from it um and it was sitting in his basement for years I bought this collection off of his daughter who had a few newer things like this brand new GI Joe playset and some other stuff in here that's a little bit newer but I'm expecting to find a lot of unused or New Old Stock toys and collectibles going back to the 1950s perhaps so it should be a fun unboxing series uh I guess what we'll do is we'll start giving boxes uh what I should do is I should start laying out tables in here so I've got room to sort and we'll start tearing through boxes here this should be a fun episode so follow along okay I've set myself up a little sorting area here I've got u-shaped six foot folding tables that I salvaged from the last property we cleared out same with the empty bins here which I'm going to use after I get things laid out organized I'll put them in their respective bins so if it's like toy cars action figures model kits whatever whatever I'm going to find well B sorted and inventoried I'm hoping the system will work out and then I can stand right in the middle beep Like a Star Trek command console and get everything all in its proper boxes uh so I guess first things first I guess maybe I'll start with this little box here and we'll kind of go through Box by box it's labeled Matchbox and Hot Wheels which may or may not be the case and then there's the secondary sorting of finding the the trucks to go with the trailers okay some of these aren't particularly old I mean I say that but they're like 1970s there's a 60s horse hauler a little stable truck so I basically just want to separate out anything that's a little bit better see that's a nice condition uh English Taxi the earlier Matchbox actually have gray wheels they would have done this casting in with two or three different types of Wheels I used to own that exact same car the real car and watch back my videos see there's gray wheels that's earlier Matchbox and the reason they call them Matchbox is because they used to come in a matchbox replica little Matchbox so anything that's a little older I'm just going to separate because those can probably be sold as smaller groups the rest of this stuff is I don't want to say generic but it's collectible just not to the same degree that the uh the older stuff is so I'll probably put this the remnants the remains of this whole box out just on its own after I get the last of the old stuff out okay so that box will will put everything sort of back in there that I think should be sold as a lot I had a jungle Ranch over there okay I better go check that out but I'm going to get this stuff all uh set aside in a box and I'll get that lot in inventory there's a lot of assorted Matchbox toys there's one thing done on to box number two here's a throwback piece going back to 1982 it's a Smurfs tin spinning top makes kind of a humming sound when it goes still works Holly Hobby old-fashioned collector miniatures there's an old General Store scale that's probably from what the 70s still in the package but there's all kinds of stuff in this box this is sort of like your variety bucket of stuff we have uh you know like a little child's iron stamps assorted knick-knackery and mildly creepy looking kind of goofy looking actually it's got his tongue in it derp uh let's see where's this made us Zone Germany so this is just after World War II so 1940s tin wind up I don't know what is that an otter I ought to know yuck yuck yuck there's a little uh tin bug this is such a weird assortment of stuff like we've got toys and we've got it looks like watches it's a Walton Railway style pocket watch and it's still working too I'll be darned Snoopy watch it's kind of cool needs to be cleaned up a little bit um gold pocket watch fobs with a wax seal those those are typically real gold pocket watch chains so it's not just toys I guess there's all sorts of other stuff in here what's this watch Cornell 17 Jewel might be gold case hard to say okay those will have to go into a well the Snoopy watch makes sense for this sale but the other watches I might have to uh oh I see that's why the tape's on there because the the crystals come loose I'll put those in a uh I guess I'll have to have like a little jewelry bucket somewhere maybe what I'll do is I'll grab this empty wooden box it looks like it's just perfect for putting stuff like pocket watches to be happy if you found this like in a garage sale or something wouldn't that be cool a Gruen precision curling beer a word watch that's neat okay so we'll we'll keep that set aside to sort through later I'm trying right now just basically find where all the toys are oh there's a little like a little kid's washing machine when you it actually agitates it moves back and forth so you can put your tiny little doll clothes in there I guess is the idea you flip the lid I wonder if you probably put real water in there a little working uh washing machines you can see the last flying Canada is in my garage buzzing around by the camera right now Hoop-Dee-Doo test your skill that looks like it's out of the dime store expansion wristwatch there's an old kind of western style kids wristwatch still in the package so I'm finding a few things that are still new seems like there's going to be a real mix of stuff in here some of it looks a little uh worse for wear that remote I might keep separate because that's the type of remote they use on Old tin robots which I do happen to kind of collect myself so there's a possibility looks more knickknacks and stuff it's in here stamps Keys military buttons for some reason a little screw in a light bulb those come in handy I'm going to keep a little section when I think are robot parts separate just for me to go through later okay this box has a lot on knickknacks a little stuff in it and some old uh kitchen accessories that looks like it has all little bits inside of it little baked pans and such another iron more knickknacks to sort more tin kitchen stuff okay I think what I'll do is I'll probably try and get a little assortment together like so I can do a box a lot of just vintage tin fits in where it's the wrapper often old Happy Days pack of trading cards hey The Fonz is here hmm very interesting all right y'all oh look petalier four 1985 I guess that's a little bicycle license plate from where from somebody's taped over the uh doll housing a little bicycle license plate kind of neat okay I think I've just about searched this box I can move along this box is labeled as miscellaneous antique so let's see not that that last box wasn't miscellaneously we have in here fishing tackle catalog to be from March 1952 is what the date says on it although it says 1930 on the uh copyright no 1951 weird I guess that's just when it was established we've got some little plastic airplanes needle book tiny little boat motors those are cool those aren't the um really expensive ones which are Kno are the ones you want to find they're metal and they're super cool but those are still neat Minecraft there's even one there's a box for one there too Mercury type Outdoor Motor neat sons of Scotland ball when's that from it's got to be a while ago 1896. invitation to the sons of Scotland ball paperwork gasoline license and ration book from the war another ration book Howdy Doody and friends and his bubble pipe well where's the pipe it's still it's more hard to find the more difficult to find the card that goes with it I'll put that over there are some little tin race cars that's sort of a little cables like a wire system to a wonder if it ran on a track of some sort beaten Western Germany Clockwork race car that's super neat are there others at the bottom of the Box let's see let's go through another remote control of some kind those are newer not really too much those books more I oh yeah those are those gasoline ration coupons I'll set those aside it's like there's antique stuff mixed in with toys and look at all these little toy trains look at that whole layer in there oh look there's even a dinky toy hero in the original box kind of neat oh there's a trailer that would be similar not quite for what that needs I'll keep looking for the exact great one there's a lot of uh looking around trying to find the right thing for the right box or the right wheels for the right toy oh there's a bit of work that goes into this all these little race cars would have been parts of like little uh sets little Tin Tin pressed or pressed tin set so you'd wind these up and race them around uh same thing these trains are the type that would go like on a trolley track back and forth you know a whole pile of those they're pretty cool pretty cool indeed box number what is this box number four we have oh wind up space tank or battery operated yeah or is it oh that would have been for probably like a little rotating antenna this would have been uh battery operated Japan 1950s still has its little lights and springs on the back Dome is not cracked needs a really good cleaning that's cool I'm gonna put that in my special pile over there that's a good piece foreign fire truck part of a truck it looks like the front tires are missing off it unfortunately waiting to find I guess there's a mix of stuff that came out of this old store and also some stuff that had been part of the family's own collection for a while so I'm looking well something like this one tire is off of it look marked it 50 cents that is an old Japanese uh tin or it's a wind-up I thought it was going to be friction but that's a friction toy there and in really good shape except for the fact it's missing one of the wheels so now I gotta look for one of these wheels in here and see if I can find I would have bought that for 50 cents that's really cool but I'm trying to get down to these other tin toys in here little uh really old looking tin tank that's a Ferrari and is it Japanese or a repop no it's made in Japan Bandai has all its Wheels and it's the really cool model that actually shifts into low neutral forward reverse it's got lots of features I was just missing one of the domes for the headlight maybe it looks I was gonna say maybe I could find it but it looks like it got broken out at some point I am going to set that there because that's a really neat piece actually when I was going through the stuff from the other house hmm I kept uh that tin toy because I thought well maybe I could find the other parts for it I thought it was gonna be Ferrari I guess not all right what else do we have going on in here it's another neat one a little battery operated was this like a Cadillac and probably like their own so it looks like a combination of a actually looks more like a Buick like a 56 Buick with a little tin dude in there made in Japan again Japanese cars can be worth hundreds and hundreds of dollars sometimes thousands of dollars so um I'm guessing that we're going to have some good value out of most of these guys but I am going to try and find all the uh the hubcaps and stuff darn you know I had a I had a bucket full of hubcap tin toy hubcaps and I remember selling the whole thing off when we closed our store I used to keep them around for this very instance and you know I guess I didn't think I'd be coming across stuff again that's cool little sports car two little guys that look like they're leaning down pretty far in there but that's still neat some fun stuff already okay trailers and a really old looking toy airplanes as Hubbly made in US of a and it has its fold down Wheels the rubber is off of that one but the prop is missing but otherwise it does have the drop down um landing gear which is pretty cool put that over there with the airplanes for now well that's a fun little box I gotta find the tractors that go with these trailers I imagine I'll probably find that actually was probably for a truck that was probably for a truck okay there's a box I can sort into at least anyway see if I can find the missing pieces for that I have no idea what's in any of these boxes just quite yet um that looks like the bartender guy [Applause] let's see what else we've got so that's the uh see if I need to get them out of there there's so much stuff in here oh look at this it's like a little Donald Duck uh kids lamp neat oh I guess I have to be careful there's stuff wrapped all up and all this paper how many people had one of these in their house or had an uncle that had one you put the batteries in he shakes up his drink sips it and then his uh his cheeks would kind of pucker and smoke would come out of his uh out of his mouth and his ears like he had a little too much uh alcoholic toys of our past but well kind of a collectible thing every time I get one it sells a funny story about that thing when I was in uh Elementary School we had this assignment and if you did really good on your work assignment the teacher would assign points if you saved up enough points he had one of those still in the box I wanted that thing so bad I don't think I ever well obviously I never got it I would have remembered but I remember I had the desire for that old drinking toy here's another one too actually same kind of idea he's got some Scotch whiskey there it looks like his eyes might roll around and he puts it up to his eyeball he's missing his he's missing his face completely so we've got some drinking toys don't tell me it's a drinking bear no it's a it's a bear that'll shoot back I guess it's the uh it looks like it was maybe remote control at one point kind of had a remote control like that one so uh but it was a remote control bear that would shoot at you So You Think You're Gonna hunt in my Woods huh that's neat tin plates made in Japan same concept as the uh tin robots like the walking sort of concept that they would have had except in Bear form and oh this is a bigger one we've got a dog what's the dog doing he's pulling a little cart with his luggage in it Alps is a good brand Japanese 1950s so it's a walking uh dog with a little Luggage in the back that would hold your batteries so I guess you would just toodle around where are you going mom out of here oh look it it folds up I see so it can fold up or go down into this little cart form that's kind of cool this box was just labeled as miscellaneous with a question mark on it sounds like fun to me and it said heavy it is a little bit heavy bubble wrap put that out of there oh boy this is a lot of stuff that will need to be sorted from little toy cars to tools to uh what is that a telephone insulator ceramic one I might take this in the house or that's a sewing machine drawer hmm yeah lots of Smalls in here since this might take me a while I may I may go inside with this stuff oh and look Melissa's home at the exact same time says perfect timing for me I'll take this in and I guess I'll go through this box and the knickknacks is my last thing for this video but guys look how many more boxes I didn't even make a dent it's obviously going to be a few episodes of this series going through these toys but let's take this inside before we sign off and we'll go through this box and see what's in here I'll grab a couple other knickknack bins and we'll we'll figure out what to do with all this stuff the best best way that I found to sort small variety of things like this is on a cookie trailer well Melissa has knowingly volunteered her cookie tray Ranch and I'll just get stuff dumped out and then I can sort it into its uh respective little areas that it needs to go in there are so many Smalls in this one box alone that it's probably gonna take me a little while to get all sorted see look there's like a gold ring gold Signet ring military button so I wonder if the little bagpipes go with the little Scottish dude maybe that's not they look a little big for him it doesn't have the lung power for those uh let's see but there's some cool stuff in here Tootsie toy cars um oh [Music] that looks like it's maybe off of that space tank or something like that that's piece off of a toy I'm going to hang on to that some of the some of those parts like just a part like that can be incredibly difficult to find look there's Old Hockey figures just a little bit of everything a little bit of everything in this bucket there's another variety bag of stuff let's see if we can get that open and dumped out I think I see another pocket watch in there maybe yep pocket mountie pocket knife this stuff doesn't look like it's super high quality that's actually not even a real watch I don't think I think that's just a it's like a kid's novelty piece like a dress-up toy from back when you want it to look like your dad I guess and have a pocket watch okay I'm gonna have to basically just keep dumping this and sorting it one by one of this might just be junk some of it could poke you if you're not careful some of it might be iodine bottles who knows who knows why is there so much weird stuff in this box it's like a gravel junk box of everything um but you know these look like uh second world war buttons perhaps with a bunny on them and zinc oxide adhesive plaster hmm it seems like anything they threw anything and everything in here oh look get a dollar off a McChicken sandwich at McDonald's from Sears I'm sure that hasn't oh a dollar off a Big Mac or a chicken I don't see an expiration date McDonald's I want my dollar off a Big Mac thank you Sears Canada the last thing you will ever give me a discount at McDonald's gosh you got to be careful going through these because yeah there are attacks and all sorts of stuff in here green label chutney well I don't understand the Rhyme or Reason behind this they probably didn't take the time to sort it obviously and just arm swept everything they had left over in this one box but there might be pieces like this that will prove to be extremely valuable to me later on that I'll have to save so I'm going to dump this out and start sorting all my cookie tray well after sorting all that stuff in the Box on the contrary that Melissa was kind enough to provide to me um it was a little underwhelming but I did find some hi 1940s era kids Spurs uh and I started separating stuff out into little toy cars car parts pocket watches old uh tin dollhouse uh cookware military buttons so things are getting sorted into their proper categories sort of some unique telephone insulators is where the telephone wires would connect on the top of a telephone pole um they used to be really common they still are fairly but you don't see some like this like the ceramic ones are a little more unique uh so because of that because there wasn't much to show you out of there I've decided to do one last box one last box and uh let's get the flap down there thanks the extra hands of Melissa that have magically magically appeared to help me out okay so we have gas station accessories with their stickers probably from like a Mark's toy uh tin toy gas station set oh this is cool is it battery operated yeah it's battery operated but it's a Ford retractable so that roof under the assistance of battery power would go down and it's a 57 Ford retractable Fairlane retractable I'm not going to force it because uh it needs the power of the battery but what a neat toy that is that you would push a button and probably drive around and occasionally put the top up and down and the terminals don't look too beat up it's really hard to get these things in working condition because thin tiny little batteries uh are the certain of the battery compartments are sometimes corroded this one looks good but they have thin little wires that lead to the those connectors and those often come loose from years of kids playing it that's a really neat toy though and these little plastic cars look like the type you'd Maybe have on the back of a toy car hauler or part of this Farm set maybe so there's the uh those weird rubber building block sets where my dad had a set of those that was around even when I was a kid I remember playing with those little plastic army jeep let's see a very Spacey looking uh plastic toy car the plastic stuff doesn't have a tremendous amount of value that's dinky toy really nice shape oh actually I take it back somehow the wheels have been become melty you know what I think it is I think somebody's put some red glue or goop in there to try and fit bigger size wheels on those rims I bet a person would probably pop that off and put normal size tires on there some Ingenuity at work that wasn't done playing right more plastic toys from the looks of things yep so we'll probably put all the plastic stuff out board games crossword board game and wait there's more tiny little metal airplanes are they Binky toys yeah they are Gloucester meteor and what looks like maybe some Matchbox and other things in here a little wind up funky looking little wind-up Spacey car made in Great Britain tin place and we've got the repeating All Steel Cannon load six wood balls fires in quick succession uh the poor siblings that probably suffered at the end of this thing what did Timmy get for Christmas oh Billy I don't want to and then they become target practice for their older sibling and there it is still has the price tag on this one it was sold for a dollar when it was brand new which would have been a fair price I guess but that's kind of cool I guess this turret probably swings around the other oh I see it goes like that it was just in its uh storage that's how it is so that is a new in box toy so it's starting to find a few things from that uh from that General Store collection but that's cool to find that mint in the Box and what's this traveler spinner and scorecards pirate and traveler greatest of games that's a real old one Milton Bradley 1910. tobacco cotton rice well this is cool this is a really old Milton Bradley game not much to it a little spinner you know I guess uh look at the graphics on that isn't that fantastic so really finding some neat stuff I think my favorite things out of there might be that pirate fight game the retractable Ford but the 10 toys that I have in my garage the Ferrari and the others those are on the space tank oh my gosh those are all cool so my favorite find so far it's probably been a space tank it would have had an antenna like an aerial dish that went on the back and turned around I think you can buy that part as a replacement but this is so cool I might actually try and clean this up and keep it for my own collection because I do have some 1950s vintage space toys too but all the rest of everything else is going to end up going to auction oh I've got to stop playing with toys get myself back to work and we'll do another unboxing video as we progress through the pile of toys and see what kind of treasures we can discover along the way so thanks very much for watching today's episode guys we'll see you all soon and bye for now foreign
