it may have been a show about nothing but it had a lot to say hello Newman welcome to watchmojo.com and today we're counting down our picks for the top ten Seinfeld quotes for this list we've chosen the best and most memorable lines from the history of the show Seinfeld well let's start the insanity we've decided to leave off less commonly quoted lines as well as concepts that may or may not have originated on the show you know it I know what vegetable lasagna here knows it and which have found a place in our collective consciousness but may not be used in everyday life he recycled this gift he's a regifter number 10 these pretzels are making me thirsty when creamers unique charisma manages to gain the attention of famed director Woody Allen he's given a line in one of his movies and he is gonna get everything he can out of it woody and I say I turn to him and I go ah boy these pretzels are making me thirsty how you gonna say it this line is made all the more memorable by the fact that Kramer not only repeats it multiple times but also tries to get the entire crew to chime in as well don't like this these pretzels are making me thirsty the especially overwrought version uttered by George will always stay with us making this a phrase we never fail to utter whenever we're eating something salty these pretzels are making me thirsty [Applause] number nine and you want to be my latex salesman what type of company is that latex latex manufacturing sir when George is cornered by his unemployment officer he invents a position he was attempting to get at a made-up company with Jerry's phone number it's a very small industry Vandelay it's one of the reasons I wanted to work for their phone number like many of the lines on this list it's the circumstances surrounding this line that make it all the more legendary and what do I say about you you're considering hiring me for your latex salesman I'm gonna hire you as my latex salesman right don't think so coming in the final seconds of the first part of this two-parter season 3 episode what delay industries with george's pants firmly around his ankles kramer answers the phone and unintentionally destroys his friends ruse setting the scene for this laugh-out-loud line courtesy of Jerry and you want to be my latex sailor number eight but are you still master of your domain care to make it interesting the core of one of the most groundbreaking episodes of any show ever this perfectly crafted line ensured the foursome never had to actually say the word masturbation in an episode that centers on the concept I come home and find my son treating his body like it was an amusement park but we all knew what they were talking about so you're still master your domain yes netting Larry David his only solo Emmy for writing this particular episode was also chosen by TV Guide as the greatest TV episode of all time we don't think any of that well deserved praise would have been possible had this line not become a virtual catchphrase but are you still master of your domain I am king of the county number seven a Festivus for the rest of us Frank invented a holiday he's so prolific when Frank Costanza realized he was raining blows down upon another man over a doll he was trying to buy for his son for Christmas he decides there has to be another way what happened to the doll it was destroyed the result is a new holiday and a classic Seinfeld blind to boot George you're forgetting how much Festivus has meant to us all perhaps it's the catchy rhyming nature of it all or Jerry stiller's outstanding crazy sounding delivery but whatever it is we know that hearing this quote always brings a smile to our faces no holiday was born a Festivus for the rest let the airing of grievances begin I got a lot of problems with you people number six but I don't want to be a pirate well that was a good one we've all been in the situation where we just can't make out what someone is saying but we don't want to ask them to repeat it yet again sure so we play along despite having no idea what is happening when Jerry finds himself in that situation and as a result is coerced into wearing an ugly puffy shirt like the Pirates used to wear on the Today Show no less his whiney and almost infantile response says it all I agreed to wear this yeah despite empathizing with his situation we can't stop laughing at his desperation to escape his fate and it's all perfectly encapsulated in this one sentence you're gonna be the first pirate number five sponge worthy I tell you I think birth control should be discussed in an open forum when her favorite form of birth control is discontinued Elaine manages to score a case of them sponges but decides to use them judiciously here's another instance where the Seinfeld writers deftly handled a sticky situation at least when it comes to network TV and took the opportunity to create an asterick 'el scene in which Elaine's potential lover is grilled about what makes him worthy of coitus I just couldn't decide if he was really sponge worthy sponge worthy an incredibly memorable quote for any fan of the show this one's skillfully sidesteps potential controversy and is just really funny so you think your sponge worthy yes I think I'm sponge more than you think I'm very sponge number four yada yada yada so speaking of exes hmm my old boyfriend came over late last night and yada yada yada I'm really tired today Georgia's latest girlfriend has a tendency to leave out the juiciest parts of any story instead opting to include and further popularize this infuriating substitute phrase want to say goodbye I was just getting out of the shower and yada yada yeah you know that a quote worked perfectly when a line that first may have come to prominence in the 1950s or even earlier becomes most connected to your show in the mind of the public decades later I met this lawyer we went out to dinner I had the lobster bisque we went back to my place yadda yadda yadda I never heard from him again what's he had he had it over the best part no I mentioned the bisque named by the Paley Center as the funniest TV phrase of all time we thought about including it and then Yatta Yatta Yatta here it is yada yada yada I'm really tired today what do you think she was tired from well obviously the yada yada number three no soup for you hey Jerry I didn't know you liked soup hard to believe this guy makes the best soup in the city Jerry the best of all the guest stars on Seinfeld there is perhaps none more well-known than the Soup Nazi the head of a restaurant specializing in soup who has militant views of what is acceptable of his customers you want bread yes please three dollars nothing for you strict and kind of hostile this mustachioed chef won't hesitate to take away your precious bisque or mulligatawny if you so much as order the wrong way does anyone ever tells me with exactly like Al Pacino you know send up a woman The Soup Nazi and his most acclaimed quote became so massive they spawned several commercial appearances I'll throw in the Soup Nazi soup for you and a cameo on an episode of scrubs for the actor Larry Thomas I gotta go oh he is so - Soup Nazi trick him what is it again it's like you're out of luck in the soup Department no soup for you right number two serenity now serenity now another creation associated with George's outrageous father Frank serenity now was supposed to serve as a calming influence for the eccentric man and his escalating blood pressure instead when he screams it at the top of his lungs it's upsetting for his wife and hilarious for the audience sit sideways eventually spreading outside the Costanza family to Cosmo Kramer to varying degrees of success of course anger it just melts right off we're told serenity now insanity later I heard they found a family in your freezer serenity now sanity later but we think it's more like serenity now hilarity always before we reveal our top pick here are a few honorable mentions three squares you can't spare three square no I don't have a square to spare I can't spare a square the women know about shrinkage what do you mean like laundry know like when a man goes swimming afterwards it shrinks oh this guy used to live in the building they keep calling us to see the baby you got to see the baby when are you gonna see the baby can't they just send us a tape and by the way they're real and they're spectacular you know George the ocean called they're running out of shrimp well the jerks dahhh called they're running out of you number one not that there's anything wrong with that you know just because you two are homosexual you should just come out of the closet and be openly gay already in an episode that Jerry Seinfeld himself has stated Lampoon's both homophobia and extreme political correctness this particular quote has the kind of dual meaning and layers that ensure its place at the top of our list we did that won't be feel better than we knew you were eavesdropping that's what my friend said all that was on purpose we're not gay nothing there's anything wrong with that not desiring to be wrongfully identified as homosexual nor perceived as homophobic by now Jerry and George strenuously deny the gay rumors that dog them in this GLAAD Media Award winning episode by uttering this line at every turn no no course not people's personal sexual preferences plus its identified by Jason Alexander as the most popular catchphrase in the series history so who are we to disagree with that everyone's gonna think we're gay not that there's anything wrong with that [Applause] do you agree with our list that's gold go which Seinfeld quote do you think is the king of the castle your sorries in a sack mister it's an expression for more funny top 10s published every day be sure to subscribe to watchmojo.com [Music]
