This is why Highway Engineers like ROUNDABOUTS... Mini Motorways!

hello fellow engineers and welcome back to many motorways so you guys seem to absolutely love this game after the first episode i did so i thought we'd head back in and we'd try out one of the other levels apparently my score wasn't that bad i wonder what we are on the leaderboard now gone down to 62nd i had quite a lot of complaints about the first episode i'm british roundabouts best thing ever i'm going to show the world how good they are and then completely forgot to use them uh however we were in los angeles so los angeles not known for their roundabouts beijing however could have roundabouts i don't know they probably don't but uh i'm determined to show you the efficiency of a roundabout so let's go into beijing oh look at this there's different colors oh cool okay so i think we'll just do straight road down there connect you in as well oh look we got a bridge look at this we've got like a little lake we can bridge over yeah be nice this episode i don't know if it's gonna work i don't think it will work probably do uh go through like how we actually do roads in real life like different road types so you have like your arterial roads which are like sort of your main route probably like this one and then you have distributor roads that distribute traffic places and i don't know i think we'll just see we'll just try and go for a high score again i think this we're just gonna go straight down aren't we and then this house do i connect that in i think i should probably just keep doing that keep doing that matt oh here we go we got some blue now so rather than connect this to any of those and make a crossroads i'm going to do a straight down so now if this blue car wants to come across there's only one bit of giveawaying he has to do this one i think we'll just go straight down there we'll try and keep everything simple right the end of week one i think after we entry we've got to go with the roundabout so roundabouts you're in so you can come to the top right where this clock is you can press pause and then you can decide to completely delete everything so i can press delete and get rid of all of these now you see the roads are still there that's because the cars are still making their journey so any new roads they add will actually cost out of my road thing down here so when i delete that i still only have 21 roads i don't gain any more but i'm wondering can i bung around about it's really not ideal but what i'm thinking if i can take this house up instead and that can come into the roundabout likewise connect those together and that down the bottom this house has its own armor to the roundabout very posh and then this arm like that that looks pretty decent i think so we'll press play and we should see how much more efficient a roundabout is oh god that's not how roundabouts work that's completely not how roundabouts work if you're going around the middle bit of a roundabout you never give way to someone joining they should always give way to you cheers game prove me wrong it should still be quicker so i think house straight on and then we'll just connect that into there again i think rather than where that's connected i'm going to take it that direction actually no there's there's no difference doing that it just looks cooler and that's all we care about all right you might want to think about creating like a bypass maybe along that sort of route just because everyone's going to be coming down here it's going to get pretty clogged up you can see the blue and the red card has crashed there not ideal but we'll keep an eye on the yellows and see how quickly those pins rack up week two traffic lights or bridge i've already got a bridge so i'm gonna go with the traffic lights i think and i don't really think there's anywhere i could use traffic lights maybe this junction but it does seem to be working fine there's no one queueing really until now because now we have a blue so that could drive more traffic straight in which case we might want traffic lights we'll keep an eye blue and that's this orange house now has a main road going like through the corner of the house so sorry about that i will do that this looks like a weird sort of toothbrush thing this is very i've noticed all all the shops are on the right and all the houses from the bed so we all want to commute all right okay so this could be our bypass so if i put that there and people can go straight across and if i connect that in now people can actually come through this car park if they want to get over here quicker yeah that red car can you see it went up here and it's going along straight over to there and it's week three i definitely want a motorway i love a motorway we've got enough tiles for up to 41 now and i don't know if he's sold before but we've just unlocked an imac cinema so these just increase the number of journeys that can sit in there so usually i think these have six like the square buildings but these circular ones i think they're up to eight around about it's ridiculous just like people's drives straight onto a roundabout but i'm happy with how things are doing we're up to 99 points that's how many journeys we've made and we haven't had to use a bridge or traffic light yet so i'm really really happy i did that roundabout early on because although it looks like carnage it's actually pretty sensible like look how empty it is that's just what you want on a road network you don't want to follow traffic that means it's not working efficiently oh we've added a new color so we've now got green supermarkets and what i'm thinking i might actually go along this junction i don't want to put too many more on here if we go up and along there i think we'll do that and connect that in i'm wondering roundabout or motorway i love a motorway but the roundabout has proved essential so far i think as i already have a motorway i'm gonna go for the roundabout potentially i could put my roundabout there all right more roads i think i'll connect you in there and this red one i might just leave him for now and sort of see how things pan out i mean my main sort of red concern is the imac cinema but it's pretty easy route for all of these red houses to get there so yeah we'll just play the waiting game and see what happens oh here we go we got white so we do need to connect that in right so what i'm thinking maybe maybe coming down here connecting in there and connect you in there so now these white guys there's three of them they built their houses pretty quick they'll just come up here come along and up there i'm a bit worried we now have a crossroads so maybe i should put traffic lights in there because that is getting a bit busy i could alternatively do a roundabout yeah maybe i'll do that actually yeah sold it right let's press pause let's delete all of this down here and let's bung around about in that there is a bit messy until the existing roads get deleted i think all right let's press play and hopefully this will clean up quite nicely once the existing journey has been made there you go there you go the only thing i don't like is what the hell is going on with those greenhouses but week five i think it's time for another roundabout again haven't used a bridge yet but we have used two roundabouts right actually so this isn't working so if you see down here these red cars they're going on to a junction before they can go onto the roundabout that's much better so people coming from this roundabout they should just go straight on because most people will be coming down here and going that way unless they're one of these white cars oh god that was dangerous damn white cars are ruining everything and actually if i pause this so what i could do here i know that white cars are a bit of a pain they're going all the way up there and then they have to come all the way around the roundabout which is disrupting this so what i could do i could actually get rid of all the whites from this roundabout maybe do that all right so i've done a slightly different layout so these white people they now no longer have to negotiate this round about all these junctions they just go through here and there's just two junctions to worry about oh and another one if you include the red house and they're up there so that's fine that's the main yellow route but then with the greens the greens are coming onto the roundabout going all the way around and then going along there i think we'd be better off not having them join the roundabout at all so if we bring these upright instead yes now the green people come out they come down this t-junction go along that t-junction and then straight down to there so that should be better for this roundabout so if you press play there should be less congestion everywhere oh this white person is now like where's my house gone someone moved my driveway yeah all the way around the roundabout so he took the scenic route home right we've got an orange so i think i'll just connect this up to there i don't know why it did a little wiggle there but okay we got an orange house to connect we'll connect that in down there again on that side keeping everything staggered we don't want crossroads we really want to avoid crossroads there seems to be a bit of traffic build up there oh god everything's moving too fast everything's moving too fast oh no we now have a green up here this could ruin my plans completely and let's pause let's pause right what's going on there's a lot of reds not getting to the red place i am wondering is there any point in this being a roundabout it could just be a junction so i think if we do that that's technically better yes it's not a roundabout but i sort of i rejigged everything this is the pain though this green one so our greens are currently here well yeah i guess that's not too bad cause these are our green so they could just go up that way and maybe through there and straight up yeah we'll still we'll stick with that for now so let's see will that improve the traffic down there getting rid of the roundabout i don't see why not but not entirely sure week six the weeks are flying time to add another motorway i need to start using motorways as well i'm sort of thinking maybe a little motorway just from this roundabout to the imax cinema i don't know all right this junction you can see it is a lot slower without a roundabout let's try it let's try traffic lights in there so hopefully that will be slightly more efficient now this area we've got another blue house so let's connect you in along there we are running out of squares down in this corner it's like proper maze of roads i got three stray houses over here all different colors but thankfully it's another week roundabout or bridge as we've already got two roundabouts stacked up i might do another bridge is there any rivers so you haven't seen any rivers there is this river in the bottom right corner which if we get something down there we will need bridges speaker the devil all right so what i'm going to do we're going to bridge over connect in there right there's a lot going on there is a lot going on more red houses up here connect them all in like that so we'll connect this one in connect these blues like that oh god the white just upgraded to an imax how is everything else looking not too bad not too bad some of the numbers are getting quite high now we got a few fours oh look all these houses all these white houses connect all them up probably should connect this green and there's another white one okay you've got a new housing estate behind the imax unfortunately it's not the imax they want to use of course why go to your local cinema where you can travel all the way to the other side the map right so down here is very congested we need to think about a solution maybe a motorway but i don't know the best route oh god week eight bridge or traffic light so do another bridge cause we got two of everything apart from bridge all right let's pause for a second and try and think about the best way to ease this congestion is so busy down there maybe i could do a motorway from this junction down to here i feel like i'll need a roundabout though all right let's see if i were to put a roundabout right i think this is a bit of a better layout now him it might not be uh so then i want to do a motorway over to this roundabout which isn't set up yet then we'll take this house off there that can come down and then these two rather than joining all of these and going around there you want to make sure there's an easier route up so i could bring them along this junction like that although that is sending more cars along this road i can't do motorways from roundabouts oh god damn well that ruins my plans yeah right let's press play and hopefully if i haven't cocked this up oh god there is a timer on there now but hopefully people the reds can see they're using this motorway now and they've got direct access avoiding all this traffic maybe with a motorway i do have another motorway there's there's always more stuff all right i'll tell you what i'm gonna do from there a crossroads straight across to these yellows yes i know it's a crossroads i'm gonna say don't use crossroads but things are getting serious now it's already got two pins i'm at the point in the game where motorways are a lot more useful it's only 10 road tiles and that gives me 20. so that'll be fine motorway oh god another white up here all right a load of white houses are spawning down the bottom so we need to connect those up oh no we've run out of road tiles not great oh we got a new imax damn imax cinema has the taken over the screen's so big thank god week 10 we can get more tiles let's do the roundabout for the 20 tiles and we really need to keep an eye on how busy things get and probably use another motorway but there's a lot of green edge down here so i think we'll take we'll connect these two together and take them straight up now oh god we really need to connect this in because this is a shop so i think we'll just do that nice we're over a thousand points things are looking good all right lots of houses not connected at the moment but i'm trying to be careful of the roads they have we've got a timer on the green that's not looking good people are struggling to get to the green so what i might do i might think about a motorway so if we were to do a motorway thankfully this you can do this as long as you want it doesn't cost any tiles it just costs a motorway so we could shove that there and then all of those greens are connected straight over to there quite nicely now we do ruin that blue guys front of their house though they'll just be looking out to a on-ramp onto a motorway but i don't have any better ideas so i think we'll do that and then we'll connect this green up with normal roads to there oh god what's going on with these houses all right common greens i really need you to get on this motorway this timer is going down oh good it's going the right way let's go in the right direction oh there's loads entering the imax now the new harry potter movies just come out oh no we got another red i think i'm gonna connect that straight through to this one and then hopefully these reds will sort that out they'll just all go straight through they can drive through the car park of this one straight there i think that's the end of another week yes week 11. uh traffic lights i've already got two traffic lights so i'm going to take the extra 10 road tiles 30 road tiles that junction might need traffic lights punk traffic lights there oh we can't we can't we can't combine motorway and traffic lights oh no this is not good this is not good at all there's timers everywhere this time is everywhere this place has come to a halt is there anything we can do yes this is the major one we've already got a motorway going there i kind of want to i think if i get rid of that one if i connect you in that way that's one less confliction with the main arterial road and maybe you as well if i bring you that way yes sorry i'm going to connect those two together so these reds and these blues can come down and get to these two actually that white you can just connect straight up i'll be fine that'll be fine right let's press play and hope the game doesn't end oh god this one is very dangerous come on cars come on cars it's stacking up way too much the bar is going down but not enough oh look how dangerous these are ah we don't have enough reds all right let's pause again let's let's rethink let's rethink this area is so busy so busy can i get a motorway and will a motorway help it's gotta help it's gonna be quicker isn't it this could be the last thing i do in this game so if we go from there motorway up to i think the reds are more critical blues are pretty close to doing it i think maybe there that's middle ground isn't it that's middle ground sod it let's see what happens oh god it's just carnage everywhere these are about to die that's the end of the game isn't it no we're so close there's one more car come on quick before the timer oh it's gone down a little bit and then i had another one and a third one please please oh no oh and the top one's going as well now it's all it's over it's over i don't even know what's going on oh there you go game over another i feel that's so close to my first score as well city shut down after 82 days it was either 82 or 86 last time i think it was 82 exactly the same as last time so does that mean roundabouts aren't better oh god i've lied to you all but yeah that was beijing let's have a look at the leaderboards where are we on this one 31st in the world i will take that yes we are 31st in the world and look who it is biffer 36. i just pipped him nice who's the roundabout master now biffa so now
