THE GREATEST VR GAME EVER MADE | Half Life Alyx (VR) - Part 1

morning ladies my name is jacksepticeye and welcome to hop life Alex it's finally here it wasn't even that long ago that we were just getting announced a new half-life game and then everyone was freaking out about it and then we figured out it was in VR and everyone's freaking out even more I am so excited to play this game by all intents and purposes this is technically half-life 3 in a lot of ways we haven't had a half-life game in so so long and this is a fully fledged valve made half-life game set between half-life 1 and half-life 2 now full disclosure I've never played half-life 1 I've played all of half-life 2 and the 2 episodes but I haven't played half-life 1 so some of this stuff might go over my head a little bit maybe I should play the Black Mesa game that just came out but I'm playing this on the valve index as you can see my lovely little hands and my lovely little fingers moving all over the place anyway enough talking you shut up Sean and play the [ __ ] game difficulty normal movements I want to move continuously based on your head orientation teleport the destinations of the fast linear movement head movement I guess I think we'll figure it out as we go a long difficulty normal why not hopefully this is enjoyable to watch it's it's rare that we get a full fledged really high budget triple-a VR game most of the VR games we get are just kind of experiences and demos and kind of wave shooters and things like that this is a fully fledged single-player half-life experience based in VR whoa where am I this is five years before the collapse of the Citadel and the death of Eli Vance okay subject Alyx Vance age 19 female affiliation human resistance current assignment reconnaissance oh man ah this is fun even just the menu backgrounds alone already were like holy [ __ ] I've never seen environments look so good in VR before Oh oh my god holy [ __ ] this is insane oh my god even immediately best-looking VR game I've ever seen this is not cop it's so big this how big this always was all right what am i doing just straight into the game I like it tonight oh my god everything's interactable honey anything tonight can I take this with me no look at my hands there tell me to pick up the can now combine [ __ ] there I got it I gotta freshen up before I go anywhere was this desiccated sustenance back tonight can I eat it no um all right oh my god that's so cool it actually feels like I'm there where am I going all right I have a gun incoming call hi God it's good damn metric our movement is normal same for the cod night patrols how's it going in a stockyard greedy guys we're not made of time here Oh also as part of the combine moving supplies into the quarantine zone that place has been deserted for years that is our well we're look into it when we get back meet back at the city Cosby will be there soon would you dad god damn it you guys whoa okay what I love about the the valve index as well I'm gonna go a little bit here for a second is that the floating headphones so they're not like stuck to my ears I've talked about this before but they have such strong sound and the sense of space around you it really adds to like the 3d environment it really feels like surround sound it's unbelievable can I write on my loved one another a is for ass of which I'd like to eat you as well you're the only one for me geez we're the only game Rosie H is for happy I always feel it laughs all right Oh baby oh this is so cool god this engine is impeccable the sort of Cascade toy person hold to toggle game menu Oh Oh neat okay what I like about the conversation I just had as well is that the the subtitles were floating and when I moved they kind of stuck because that's what that's a problem in spectating VR as well is that it's kind of hard to read the subtitles if you're not in here but the way the light cascades and gradually filters out this is a and the the specular maps and everything the shine on the floor this is a high quality game engine Oh baby yes Jesus Oh oh my god they were my favorite thing in half-life 2 when okay if you've never played half-life 2 there's gonna be a lot of spoilers and stuff for that but remember that mission where you're in like the Boogie and you have to fly around and you have to kill a bunch of those things if they were those things and it's been a long time since I played it but they're like walking around the environment it kinda reminded me of War of the Worlds so to see them in person to scale is [ __ ] wild to be able to see how massive this [ __ ] actually is is scary oh man I can't wait to see some headcrabs can we get [ __ ] look at these environments Oh oh you're cute who are you it wasn't coffee oh not coffee here oh my god Bexley is food oh yes I'm so never been a time when we've had a VR game that looks this good you're stupid what's happening what's happening whoa oh my god I am absolutely in love with this this is the coolest thing I'm getting I'm late I'm gonna [ __ ] cry man I've been such a huge advocate for VR for so long I've been so many VR videos on this channel and I've always said that we need this we just need one really really good VR game to really push the medium and get more people involved in it and valve of all people to take up that and really push for it it makes this gamers Herot happy I hope that this is the start of some really [ __ ] insane VR games and have you heard gape who have you heard Gabe Newell talk about stuff recently he did an interview where he talked about the matrix and he said that we're closer to the matrix than ever before and that hooking basically computers into our brains and merging with the game is like something it's like nine years off oh my god even the reflections you don't get this in VR games you get it in regular games there's so much detail everywhere because we are is a hard thing to do when you play a regular game it's easier to get away with like lesser details in far-off distances or close up because you're not that close to it as as a player you're like the cameras based far away from the ground a lot of times but to actually be in VR and be this close to textures like obviously this is a flat like pictures took to the texture whatever but you would really start to see your stuff look [ __ ] but this does not look [ __ ] this looks incredible hello 19 3 are you sure everything was ok 100% behind you down in this part god those animations what's what striking me the most is delighting in it I don't know if it's globally illuminated like these reflections in the window and the way the light kind of cascades over that and the sort of haze that you see it all looks very realistic because real life lighting is [ __ ] real life lighting for like environments and stuff it's just - it's too whitewashed it's too like bland looking it's too OneNote but that's what really sells realism is this sort of grayish white light that kind of flow it flies over everything is anything I'm saying of interest to people I don't care I'm gonna keep saying it anyway pigeon damn it oh this a Peroni dude this is absolutely a Peroni it looks like a Peroni valve engine i I didn't actually look it up is this a new version of The Source engine is this like source engine 3 or is it just a heavily modified version of the one we already had it looks much better than all the old versions of the engine we had damn this is so impressive I'm not even in the game yet properly I'm just going over environments tonight can I pick up see this is what's cool the cones traffic cones been able to pick up everything good lord I hey I can't sell it to you guys watching it at home because obviously you're watching on a 2d screen but just to be able to be here in this environment and because it looks I've been to France it looks like France because I because I I know what an environment like this would look like as a human person it sells it even more I oh that was you hey you forgot your cross on your baguette okay I need to take it easy or I'll get motion sick playing this game because I'm using continuous movement because I like how it looks better than teleporting whoa oh yes I said it in a lot of series that's what video games are good for is that sense of like scale and wonder and awe that most other mediums can't do and to do it in VR is even better like imagine a Shadow of the Colossus game in VR I want it I need it we got a Last Guardian sort of experience in VR my going through here I don't know what's happening yet by the way I've just been like looking at all of this and being gobsmacked by it I haven't really been listening to the characters good old good old jacksepticeye not listening to a damn thing sorry Danner's Oh okay half-life Alex man what an absolutely incredible experience so far easily the best VR game like all of the animations are top-notch environments are top-notch story is excellent gameplay is excellent everything across the board is a [ __ ] 10 out of 10 so far it's everything I wanted it to be and more actually being in the half-life world Cena for 2 got in front of you seeing the tripod in front of you seeing the choppers fly over seeing a headcrab and how big they are in real life in front of you is scary stuff and I I hope that at least some of it translates across into video because playing it I would highly recommend anybody get this I'm playing it on a evolve index which of course is gonna be the preferred way of playing because valve make the index and valve made this game but they have made it for all a like oculus question oculus rift s as well and they said that it's a very comfortable experience on both of those two so anybody have any of those I highly recommend this game because it's easily the best VR game that I've ever played so absolutely outstanding and when I'm playing in the game I can see like my ammo and my health and everything on my hands but they have they they've thought about people watching it as well and people spectating at home and all of you watching the videos so they've shown like my health and my resin and that kind of stuff on screen so just those little tiny details really add so much for being in this world and seeing the size that the building is and the lighting and everything it's the greatest ever I cannot wait to play more of this game I'm gonna do the entire game entire playthrough there's very few VR games that have actually done that for this did not feel like I didn't feel sick I thought I was going to because it was just so much VR and that kind of smooth motion but I guess I've played so much we are at this point that I have an iron gut for it but oh my god I can't say enough about it but I'm gonna end the video
