fella named Derek Medina where do I begin so I guess I'll start with some books he wrote self-published by the way because they were terrible he was also an aspiring actor who would upload many many videos to YouTube and he turned himself in to the police after he killed his wife and posted about it on Facebook hmmm I probably should have led with that as you can imagine already this case is batshit I mean it is set in Florida so let's get into it [Music] Derek Medina was born in 1982 in the Sunshine State he did well I guess you could say he did a little bit of everything because he wanted to be everything he was an amateur boxer with an unbeaten record 25 zero he had a pretty big opinion of himself really whether it was shooting hoops playing golf or pool or whatever hey guys shake your hand sir he also wrote a bit so he wanted to be a famous actor slash sports person slash boxer slash author instead he became a famous piece-of-shit killer so I guess that's something [Music] so he wrote books what kind of books are we talking about here well I'm not an editor I'm not a writer but Derrick definitely thought the first rule of writing was have really long obtuse titles such as how a judgemental unselfish attitude is destroying the world we live in because the world is vanishing beneath our eyes which is about more or less exactly what the title says also this derek he worked as a property manager but no surprise he had a kid trouble holding down a job for more than a couple of months one day he met Jennifer Alfonso a single mother of a young daughter who waiting tables at Denny's in South Miami they hit it off pretty quickly and got married within like one month of dating okey-dokey then they seem to be doing all right together you know Derrick just grant they've bought a lot like a shit-ton they would separate for like a day and then get back together with each other they would insult each other fights over stupid petty [ __ ] it seemed that they generally did love each other but it was just a very volatile relationship women's are the best and then suck that is until Derek filed for divorce Jennifer moved out of their their home I've moved into her own apartment with her daughter and actually seemed to be fine after this divorce until Derek started calling again and then hey presto they're back together again all of their problems are no solved happy days but things didn't change as they never do now we're just hanging here at the club as far as are bowed the family woman one time Derrick heard a man was hitting on Jennifer while she was at work in Denny's so Dennis said I'm gonna I'm gonna stand outside Denny's with a gun and see if this guy is gonna try and hook with me he didn't do that but it's you know just the insight into his mind I guess you could say it was a sign of things to come also like Jennifer's friends would say to her we think Derek is is like insane he might kill you too which Jennifer would just laugh off presumably while having a really worried look in her eyes ha ha ha good one on the morning of August 8 2013 [ __ ] went down 27 year-old Jennifer woke up late and was pissed at Derek as he was supposed to woken her up earlier and so an argument began kind of stupids you know his petty [ __ ] but whatever after Jennifer went down to make breakfast pancakes for ten-year-old daughter Isabella who was still upstairs 31 year old Derek then came down the argument continued with Jennifer hitting him in the chest [Music] he then walked away back upstairs came back down with a handgun Jennifer seeing this scrubbed a knife Derek then disarmed her and shot her eight times dereck then calmly walked away put his gun back in his closet and told Jennifer's daughter to stay in her room he then came back down took a photo of Jennifer's dead body and left the apartment [Music] minutes later he uploaded the picture to Facebook I'm going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife love you guys miss you guys take care of Facebook people you will see me in the news my wife was punching me and I'm not going to stand anymore with the abuse so I did what I did I hope you understand me a few hours after Derick with his dad handed himself in to the police cops then rushed over [Music] during the interrogation detectives asked him about injuries from the fight yet that morning with Jennifer he described bruising and severe pain saying he was concerned about a life-threatening blow to the temple from his wife cops didn't really buy it though like he was a boxer boxer although he actually did a pretty good record but his wife was like a lot smaller than him they didn't think he would be ever in any danger physically from her also why didn't he call 9-1-1 immediately after it happened Derek Medina was then arrested and charged with first-degree murder before his trial began at one point during a hearing he was actually [ __ ] out of the courtroom because of several bursts he made he was also really you know he was really going for about Charles Manson look maybe he thought it would make him look innocence and a confession on Facebook but Derek Medina got kicked out of his own court hearing today as he attempted to shout out testimony to the judge CBS 4s Natalia Zea has more Derek Medina looks like he's striking against grooming of any sort but his appearance wasn't all that spoke volumes during his court hearing [Music] and this wasn't his first outburst in court during a hearing in January he politely announced that he didn't need a jury he wanted the judge to decide his fate this time again Medina's voice was heard his message was lost he was booted out of his own court hearing two years later the trial would begin warningly 25 and out 25 it's a good record perfect record that was the defendants record as an amateur boxer he never lost fight me ever 25 enough and that wasn't gonna start on August 8th 2013 wasn't going to lose to his wife he wasn't going to lose by letting her leave as she had said she was going to do and he wasn't going to lose to his wife after she called him a [ __ ] during an arc now the defense would more or less point to he was an abused spouse she was an aggressive person who would physically and mentally torture him and one day he snapped a psychologically battered victim the husband of an aggressive diva who longed to hurt him and called him the woman in their relationship now obviously I mean I know experts I'm no lawyer but the fact that he shot and killed her I don't think that's a good look but what really pushed it over the edge was the fact that he uploaded photos of her dead body her Facebook critics called the killing a symptom of a society obsessed with social media fueled fame however Derek claimed he did it as a way to notify Jennifer's family of her death I'm sure they were grateful the prosecution said it was that fighter's pride that drove him to murder his wife when she Tretton to leave him during an argument he did what people do when they win he told people about it what was really the final nail in the coffin for Derrick was that during a taped interview with Jennifer's daughter Isabella she said the only person she was afraid of was Derrick because he was mean to mommy after six hours of deliberations the jury found Eric guilty of second-degree murder [Music] the circuit court of the 11th Judicial Circuit in a formal date on the floor came from an elf one three one eight four thousand for the state of Florida versus Derek bernandino burning count one we the jury find as well all set to count one of the indictment charging first-degree murder the defense of the defendant is guilty of second-degree murder other included offense the defendant discharged a firearm causing death [Music] three months later at his sentencing Derek he was not happy he was going to get his lawyers involved you guys are really screwed now focus again presidents and future presidents of the world okay I will be suing this world I like that unfriended the movie by Universal Pictures came over the movie for my trial which was unfair okay which was bias and pretty much the point I'm trying to make is I did not get a fair job and I will be taking action and will be suing and I want the President of the United States of America to focus on corruption corruption is a big problem that we have in the United States of America and all over the world nothing further o God knows the truth and nothing Derek Medina the so-called Facebook killer sentenced yesterday a judge telling him he'll be spending the rest of his life in prison Medina who had remained silent throughout this trial decided to speak up yesterday he delivered a bizarre rant that meant and left many inside the courtroom quite frankly puzzled local 10 News reporter Lehren Livingston is live in Miami with all the details Lehren indeed bizarre and his defense team says it will appeal this life sentence after an emotionally trying and verbally interesting day in court we've seen different forms of Derek Medina throughout the past few years he was in rare form during his sentencing Friday prosecutors say he posted a picture of his wife Jennifer Alfonso's body after he shot and killed her inside their South Miami home a home they shared with their young daughter she did not join family members in court but was in the home when her mother was murdered never being able to see a mother again not as truly a judge that no child should ever have to endure she wasn't just a body on the floor to be discovered she was a wonderful amazing person Medina's lawyer says his clients been in isolation since his 2013 arrest which he says might explain his impromptu words in court but he's been in isolation since she was arrested on August 8 2013 that can't be easy he wanted to make a statement he made his life before he got life in prison he would appeal but his conviction upheld Derek Medina must serve a minimum of 25 years before he is eligible for parole so soon after all of this became public knowledge the fact that he wrote books I was also revealed this would soon lead to some people writing reviews on Amazon and such wit folk writing fantastic book gave my marriage a shot in the arm great book author Reba sticks to his guns it seems the author Derek Medina of South Miami wanted to save his marriage biggert it was worth a shot I had my doubts about reading this book but finally decided to pull the trigger on reading it how a
