love is the best part love is the best - the best bye even if it all falls apart in the specified when did you first meet me or even in a little Bible study in Dana Point community chapel huh I didn't even know that what you were teaching I was teaching a Bible study yeah you came back I think I don't even know when you first saw me that's when I first saw you I was engaged to another guy blood led to the Lord I was really in love with them but God spoke to me and said one day I was in chapel was six weeks before my wedding and the Lord said you can't marry him and I remember just bawling like a baby sobbing my guts out on in this little chapel at Vanguard University you know SCC about three hours cried out to God well here's the ring you know I took off the ring it laid it on the floor and and I just said I just want to follow you and so God without me knowing had picked out Roland for me and we went out to lunch once and that's we've talked a lot we prayed together and we talked but we got we went to lunch once and got married so after one lunch date you guys got married yeah one watch joy nice lunch well there's a little bit more to Dallas the story uh I was so hungry for God that I gave up a huge Church Calvary Chapel it had 25,000 people coming through it every week he had a 1500 member college and career ministry and I just got tired of it you know I had a big I had a great social life I took out lots of people ID but I just got tired of girls that just screamed at Christian concerts you know and just wanted to see if they could go to the disco and still be saved and all this stuff and they wanted cars and and fine dining and you know lots of stuff you know and I just got I just didn't know there was a girl that just wanted Jesus that's all I want to talk about I didn't know there was such a girl you know and I kept praying lord if I ever find somebody that just cares about Jesus and not fancy dating and big big you know expensive treatments and all of that you know the whole dating scene the whole pursuing scene the whole playing the game I've ever found someone like that that's really what I'm praying for so I said just I just not even looking for a wife anymore that's that's that's not what I want I just want a place that's full of the Spirit I want God I don't care if there's no social life at all there and and so I heard about this church Dana Point community chapel you know the South Orange County I heard the pastor was amazing and miracles happened there and is full of the Spirit and he was very gifted and don't had 200 people compared to 200 you know 2025 thousand I said forget it I just want to go her God is you know so I never expected to meet anybody I wasn't looking I had no intentions of getting involved with anybody nope not interested I came to this little church of 200 people and sure enough healings were common Holy Spirit was powerful and people there had tremendous testimonies and one of them was this super super shark cute short stylish girl who had gone on mission trips and had took teams with her she was so young and yet was just such a leader and she had these fantastic miracle stories and her heart for Jesus was just unbelievable but it was nothing personal I was just so impressed with how a person could be like that well I was still engaged so yeah well of course yeah I mean I know I had nothing to do with any of my feelings for her I didn't know her I just I was just impressed by her testimonies but I did know her fiance Jeff IRA I knew Jeff and you know just because he's in the church and it churches on the beach and we would go to beach events church events on the beach and all I got to know him and when you know they do they were so sharp they dressed so sharp he looked so good they were so perfect for each other I was so happy for them I was really impressed I was so impressed how is such a shirt perfect couple kids just happy be Jesus freaks like that yeah I mean I just thought they were perfect I just never heard that yeah no I don't good services night Anthony I dated another girl before and sometimes she came and we both pointed out to each other now that is a sharp couple really a shirt couple Wow hey did you get it going beautifully and all of a sudden I cut Heidi crying one summer she was sobbing in the parking lot and I could didn't know why and she says I'm going to New York because God asked me to go to New York and by myself to mission you know to be a just a minister on the streets of New York and Broadway to you know the back streets inst with the drug addicts and all and I just want to be here on the beach with Jeff and I just you know I just so want to be have fun on the beach this summer but I'm just going to obey Jesus she's crying in a parking lot it's just I'm just gonna BAM no matter what and she took off to New York and I was that just really impressed me never met you know in our Southern California social dating beat scene I just didn't know anybody that would give up a guy or girl to run off and minister in dark alleys in New York for the summer by themself and while she came back from New York and just he had all kinds of more stories you know how God was with her and that was what really impressed me he'd she knew God and God was with her some of the stories she told were just unbelievable unbelievably great the next thing I know she's crying again I noticed he was really going around doing a lot of crying and that's when I found out she'd broken her engagement so I feel obligated to minister to poor Jeff and so for months I just okay Jeff it's all right you know you know she's just she's just too strong she'll never work you know just got yourself lucky I've learned everything yeah I knew some of that I did not miss oh yeah but the testimonies kept going and I like this church because you could actually talk to the pastor know at calvary chapel i would you know call in the office and say hey you know i would really like an appointment with the pastor you know this is april and they would say you know we i have something in october for you or i just this is that church right i need i need a church where i can play tennis with a pastor and that's that's where to discuss spiritual home perms that's but especially sports yeah silly also skis so this is a very I just you know I spent a lot of days on my pastors living room floor watching pro tennis on TV and going on ski trips and he was just great but so now we need a church ski trip so we have the van you know and we all sign up and we're all ready and I get all packed and bring my skis and I go down to the van in it and to get into the van and had just happened to end up next to this really cute shark short bossy I mean strongly and we ended up talking for hours and hours up to mammoth Jeff was driving and Jeff was the driver of the van and we're in the middle sitting next to each other and Heidi was crying because she just had another big run-in with her mother and you know her she and her mother did not get along at all after what happened to her could after her conversion so filled with the spirit of mother thought she was nuts and a lot of other things and so by the time I got to Mammoth I said you know this this is very interesting girl here yeah I said I'd tell anybody I met I said I'm going I'm a minister and a missionary and I'm going to Africa Asia and England because God spoke to me in an audible voice and Jesus kissed my left hand when I was 16 and oil ran down my arm and he said you're to be married to me so I knew that my covenant was with Jesus first and and foremost and that he was my everything I thought that meant I would be a monk Asst I really did I thought that meant I wouldn't be married to a person on earth but later the Lord the Lord showed me that it was in the spirit realm but I would so that was the first thing I said to Roland because I knew he was kind of wanting to talk to me and I said I'm going to Africa Asia England and I'm a minister and a mission and he said that sounds good that sounds cool and he's the first one that wasn't shocked by it because he grew up in China and and he was raised by missionaries fourth-generation missionary family and I'm raised by bohemian Ivy Leaguer you know Laguna Beach a crazy family she was rich I was Lauer we have a different lifestyle you know um but but the cool thing was that God really set this up and he put it together but that didn't make it easy yeah I think the fact that we did not know each other that well we're 12 different 12 years difference between us um you know my background in his background were completely totally different um I was in your gift mixes totally new exclusive yeah so we have like we have some challenges there we also had a few meetings with Chris valeton a few times like what this isn't so good you know and he kind of challenges you and it challenged us we realized you know some of our ministry time we were kind of on neutral in the marriage we weren't really working on our marriage we were we went off to Indonesia with a one-way ticket $30 in our pockets we'd been married for what a week ten days something like that off we went no money no support we didn't know each other our backgrounds are totally different we knew a little but not much you know I had just graduated University I got ordained got married and went off to the mission field in 30 days and I think I was in shock and there were times when it was just so hard I was like what were you thinking God we're so different we're so opposite we you know the way he thinks in the way I think are just so completely different and then we would just kind of push through and push through and the Lord really you know really saved I believe saved us when we were covenant people you know we're Pentecostals were there's no way divorce isn't in the you know in the cards they are whatever we kind of fact you don't even play cards work yeah we're you know we're good Pentecostal you know stock well I I was completely the opposite but when I got saved it was all holiness and purity that you would just don't even talk about not being covenant but I was probably like you were a bit I was kind of a mo shonali shut down yeah and and I was really it's like well I would never separate or get divorced but in my heart I was shut down and we went to because we you know we were radical in missionary work radical weren't we we just worked really home yeah we didn't stop we didn't take a day off do we ever have a vacation 20 years I don't think we've ever had a vacation all by ourselves well we're doing week so we're about to go that's great 9 days we're going on a vacation we've been married almost 34 years it will be our what 34th anniversary we're going when you're there yeah well we're going on a vacation well this all raises a huge issue and that is the relation between your your connection with God in your connection with each other you know I knew right at the beginning because of her devotion radical devotion to Jesus and the way Jesus told her he would be her husband and all that I would never be or anybody nobody would be your first boyfriend besides Jesus that was just a given and I everything I expected I expected in ministry to not have her just you know cling to me and hang on and just be super romantic and present all the time I knew that wasn't going to happen we are going to a mission field that was extremely difficult we went by faith I mean we didn't even have a place to go to on her honeymoon to the night before the wedding and then they yep sitting on the curb because there were no rooms in the end we said no reading presence we don't want towels dishes anything we just want to get money from airplane okay we had just enough money for one more ticket to Indonesia so even if we were totally compatible and everything it was so stressful you know and it was just it was just challenging too extreme but Toronto is where everything change that's years later yeah years later everything changed in Toronto how did you ie together for all those years covenant and just you know joy on to the products some people never thought I'd avoid maybe seriously I I think we have some good foundations there I think some couples are like oh that that's just cruddy I'm not doing it the fact is I'm glad we held on because God did come through and God did give us incredible breakthrough and love for one another in connection but had we not had those roots and those you know we're not gonna give up we would have given up and I think young couples need to know you know divorce is not an option that's right connection is an option a day-off is a is a necessity um spending time with your kids and your family you can't ministry they'll always be for us like I do 10% of the invitations you know there's always another thing you can do you just have to learn to say no and yes to your husband yes - your kids are yes to your wife and and just just make that your first priority I've heard people say it's either ministry and thence marriage that's just nuts you know covenant marriage and ministry aren't in some kind of hierarchy it's like if you have no marriage and you have no family you have no ministry mm-hmm because God's about family and so we don't have it all right yet but we did take a big backtrack and we stopped and we sobbed our guts out rollin went to Toronto and really scared me I was in Mozambique you know being the wrong dictionary and he called me and we didn't connect very well and he was sobbing on the phone I'm so sorry cuz I love flowers you didn't give me presents or anything I'm a present Giver he's in in Toronto I'm so sorry for this and then I'm like who is this me who's talking to me on the phone what's he saying speaking thousand dollars two thousand dollars or we're missionaries we didn't have $2,000 $2,000 of phone calls from Toronto just like crying and repenting and like this guy scaring me cuz I was kind of living my separate life we went together but we were apart right so I went to Moe's a big first of January 95 and it saw this opportunity to take over this orphanage I said hey Heidi you know while I'm working what you know you're done why don't you just go yeah so I I went when he got dragged in Toronto God crashed it on him and he when he came back I was pretty scared but then he came back and he was giving me perfume and flowers I waited like 20 years for this was a little scary yeah and then I didn't always react right because I didn't wanted like open my heart right hurtful cuz my heart's like yeah I'm not gonna let this happen because then hopes gonna rise up and and then I went to Toronto and I got wrecked and God crashed in on me and so I could open my heart up and then I got inner healing some major inner healing and I realized things I was blaming rolling for had to do with my own stuff my own childhood my own mother and it's kind of like I had some deep Bitterroot judgments on my mom that I carried over and to Rawlin so I forgave my mother and then I could love Roland in a much better way like I could not judge him in the way I judged him before you know I could just let him in and say we're different but God put us together and so we are going to live in harmony we're gonna work through our stuff we have stuff everyday and we have stuff but we we've learned to work through it and to and to talk to Jesus you know together we talk to Jesus we pray we read a Bible we read devotions well we're finding out as we should already know that if you want if you love somebody you have to carve out time for them just don't wait for his free time to show up know Mary's can survive if you're super DeeDee if you're you know looking to your spouse for for what only God can give you in the way of security love Jesus just has to be enough and everything otherwise you'll you'll you'll wipe out your spouse yes true yeah that's great clarity Jesus yeah you know your spouse cannot be your first love that's that stuff you just can't Jesus has to be if first he has to be enough for you no only in that way can you be free and love her for who she is and not be demanding and wish she was different all of that then you can cling to each other gosh thank you guys I thought out of Heidi droll and stuff there was just a time a really good really there's a lot of meat there from a couple who's really done it and they've been in ups and downs large ministry small ministry plowing platforms they've been at all of it you know right one of the beautiful things to me too is right from the beginning when it was like they immediately knew that oh we're really different like our gift mix is different like we got we just got married because the Lord said to and now here we are and realizing we are such opposite people but yet the quit was never like hey well maybe this isn't going to work out no it was the issue of divorce never came up and I think that's the beauty of their story part of the beauty of their story is that there was never an option to give up I think that's what they said their church background and their roots and their faith that said hey look there's no option for us to get out of this there's no option for us to to not do this and not finish well and I think because they went into it with that mindset their differences because they were clearly at luck Rolen was like and totally infatuated by her which was super cute to watch he was like so infatuated with her and what she was doing and and who she was and her personality of like I'm gonna go to these nations do these things and all it's like alright sounds awesome you know it was super beautiful to see their love you know I think a lot of single people like war I'm looking for I'm looking for a mate and it's like well actually you have plenty of time for God to bring someone to you why don't you go look in the mirror for a little while and see what you have to work on so that you're prepared to go into a relationship and it be healthy not wait 20 years and and go well I wish we would have worked on this earlier yeah you know and so for someone that forgot to come to us from someone like Heidi just I think means a lot yeah you love is the best part yes the best pilots the best car you
