that you have consecrated this moment as we enter into the presence of god to hear what god is about to say but before we even do that we're going to step into this mode of worship so i hope you've got room to lift those hands and to jump and shout before the lord and declare that he is the great i am now let's go to the throne father we thank you as always the old church said god that if we had a thousand tongues we couldn't thank you enough if we had the greatest memory we could not recall all the things that you've done and to be quite frank with your god you've done so many things that you've done some things behind the scenes that we have yet to see and so today god we thank you for the miracles we thank you for every blessing we thank you that you are so good to us that even in the hardships of life you cause us to come forth this pure goal god we thank you and we appreciate your love now here is a thing that we really thank you for this moment because this moment is a moment of transmis transformation this moment is going to be the life-changing moment that you have ordained for us to encounter and this is why the bullets didn't take us the accident can take a sickness couldn't take us kovac couldn't take us nothing could keep us from this moment because you've already set it up in the heavens and we thank you that we couldn't do anything greater than what you've already done to get us to this moment so now that we're here hallelujah to your name now that we're here we give you the glory now that we're here we give you an uncompromised and relentless praise hold it back nothing to declare that you are the great i am the one who was and the one who is and the one who is to come you are the alpha and the omega you are awesome and today we declare that good god almighty you are hallelujah whatever we can think of you are whatever we need you are whatever we needed you were and you will be whatever we need in the future we thank you because you are the great i am so now but to you who is worthy of honor who is worthy of praise as the scripture declares thou to him who was able to do exceedingly and abundantly above the things in which we ask or think according to the ghosts the holy ghost the holy spirit that dwells on the inside of us now unto you who's able to do beyond what we think we ascribe glory honor and praise covered in the blood of jesus in the name of jesus we pray let's get it let me just give them some [Music] [Applause] praise [Music] [Music] [Applause] the great i am [Music] you are my strengths you want my strengths in a time of trouble the great i am i need you to be i i am here i am here i am i am i am [Music] i am i need you to be hello everybody my name is pastor keon henderson i give leadership to the lighthouse church and two weeks in a row we decided you know what let's go out into the elements so if you hear again i got a man next door he loved to fix on cars doing taping time so if you hear that uh forgive him if you hear some birds come above our head just know if his eye is on the sparrow then his eyes are on you but i can tell you what you are going to hear you're going to hear the word of god directly from the mouth of two prophets uh who have been studying to show themselves approved to my right pastor hammond of our west campus and to his right pastor torrence moore who gives leadership as the assistant pastor to the entire organization and you are here and we are excited to share with you uh what god has given us this is what we call tackle the text and this is just our futile approach uh to uh explain what you may have heard uh on the ensuing weeks and have a continuing conversation so you heard over the last couple weeks uh this message that we have been talking about dealing with distractions and it's become a two-week conversation because there's so many distractions uh black america is distracted by what is happening in the social justice arena white america is distracted by what is happening in their arena a poor america is distracted by what is happening uh with the upper echelons and the upper echelons are distracted by what is happening with the stock market it just doesn't matter who you are what you have we're all given 168 hours a week and that doesn't matter if you're a billionaire or you are barely making it we all have some choices and decisions to make and so i made a decision uh through the word of god and the unction of the holy ghost to actually share with you some ways on how to deal with distractions because we all have been there we all are either there and i remember when i was in church they would say it this way you're either in the storm just come out of a storm or you're on your way into a storm and the same thing is true of distraction you're either distracted about to be distracted or just finished being distracted so i'll toss it to you guys as we start uh we uh we are in thessalonians chapter 2 verse number 18. i'm going to read it uh so that way those of you all who haven't been with us on this conversation i implore you to go to our youtube channel and search at the lighthouse church keyword myself keon henderson and search a sermon called dealing with distractions um from 2021 marked from a time stamp perspective in first thessalonians chapter 2 verse 18 says for we want it to come to you i paul in fact tried again and again but satan distracted us um i i thought that that was that was amazing satan hindered us in the king james version of the bible so you guys were here uh let's just kind of talk about it and bless the people of god well you know being hindered reverend you know that might be the story of so many christmas lives so many saints life man is that that hindrance that we feel when we're trying to just to take two steps forward seem as if the enemy always has something right there to take you back to where you came from and that that's been the cycle in most people's lives you know two steps forward i'm going right back two steps forward going right back and those two steps forward may be their deliverance for that time and then you get caught up because i remember the last on last week you know we don't break cycles yeah yeah so then we go right back to the same thing and that's a constant move we're not really making traction we're just being busy in one place yeah yeah um for me um i thought about traction i thought about hindrance you just you just talked about that and for me what what has really hindered me most in my life is my insecurities yeah and my insecurities have been my distractions um and and in studying this text the lord just shared something with me he said if if you let your insecurities or your distractions uh fuel your values you won't be able to add value wow so in other words we've got to change our our perspective and get out of our mindset that the focus is on our insecurities no let's move the focus on the areas that we are strong in because those areas that we're going to strong in are going to overpower the areas that we're low in you know i read one quote that says that confidence is silent insecurities out loud and that that all of us deal with insecurities and when we started the the conversation off on sunday we talked about uh distraction and i gave this definition i said a distraction by definition is a thing that prevents someone from giving full attention to a thing that a distraction isn't this thing that that totally uh pulls us away that that sometimes you can actually be in the relationship that you're supposed to be in and sometimes you can be on the job that you're supposed to be in but see a distraction it's not the thing that fully pulls you away it's just the thing that keeps you from giving your full self to the thing right and so um a house divided against itself will not stand and and i wanted to push the idea uh that that all distractions are not loud yeah that that some distractions are still and and stealth and quiet and and you can be thinking well pastor i'm right where i'm supposed to be i'm i'm with my soul mate but but sometimes you can turn a relationship with a soul mate into a soul stir because you're not fully vested and and you're not uh fully there and and speaking as a person who's been busy uh a better part of my life i've been preaching since 14 years old uh god has blessed me to travel the world preaching the gospel and and consequently i've i've had entrepreneurial endeavors uh intertwined in that and and got an eight-year-old daughter and sometimes you struggle to figure out how to not be distracted and and and i found out that one of the ways uh to be successful if you have a lot on your plate is to treat everything in your life with respect on the day that is important right so if i'm if i decide that that today you know we're here at church and and we're getting it out i probably at this very moment i'm not being a good father right i'm not being a good father not to say i'm not a good father but at this moment i am not investing in that relationship but tomorrow when it's her day i can't be here right yeah so i've heard it said this way that when you are busy that you have to treat life like a juggler and you have to juggle every moment of your life and just make sure that you touch everything right and know that if you touch anything too long you're going to drop the other thing you guys are pastors you are fathers you are husbands you are entrepreneurs i want you to look in the camera each individually and let somebody know that that as as saved as you are and it's filled with the holy spirit as you are you too like them still get distracted for me pastor i i i i like what you just said about the juggler because you you have told us on many occasions let the main thing mean the main thing now a lot of us will get distracted in that the main thing is my child as you said on the main thing is my job but the reality is when you're going to have balance you got to juggle them all yeah you got to make all the main things the main thing and that's going to bring balance to your life that everything that's important you got to bring balance to it by focusing on the main thing absolutely uh when you were talking about that past i was thinking i said man you know i have to be uh transparent because especially when you're talking about relationship and distractions and uh being present being there when you're there you know uh it's easy to to allow things uh to to get in the way of that like like especially when you know i'm honest with myself and if i allow myself to sit in one place too long i become bored and when i get bored then distractions creep in on me because i need something to peak the interest yeah and for a lot of people when you don't know yourself you don't realize that you might be getting bored sometimes with where you are and you need something to pique your interest but then distractions come in because you're not really aware of who aware of who you are like now that i'm aware of who i am i don't i don't allow distractions to take my attention so much because i know that if i do start swinging off a little bit i find myself in a place i don't want to be in i think what you just said is you have absolutely described what most of us need to do and what i saw the woman with the issue of blood yeah see remember the bible says that she has spent all of her money on doctors and medicine and none of them could do her any good see all of those are really distractions because the objective was for her to really get to the doctor to the doctor but watch what she learned and you said this you said i learned myself and i learned how to talk to myself and i'll say to myself don't do this so don't do that notice what the bible says that the woman had spent all of her money on the doctors and that medicine could do no good but when she saw jesus the bible said she said to herself to herself if i could just touch the hem of his garments i know i'll be made whole so i think that one of the objectives that we should learn from distractions is that out of distraction should come a self-conversation yes that you should be able to after being distracted uh or disenfranchised you should be learning how to talk yourself in and talk yourself out of being distracted by those things the woman said i i i'm going to say to my if i could just touch the hem of his garment and she said that to herself while the disciples are creating this barricade around jesus trying to keep her away but it just showed me that if you talk to you it don't matter what they say about it hearing yourself yeah because talking to yourself uh keeps you locked in on the on the purpose yeah you know i have to talk to myself to keep me locked in on a purpose and they say well honestly being married is a choice every day right yeah so i talk to myself so i can stay locked in on the purpose hey don't don't listen to everything you hear don't see everything you that you see don't watch everything you see see i talk to myself to keep myself locked in on a purpose and i don't start hearing all the stuff it's a lot of chat out here that's good man it's chat out here man and i i described uh distractions and i want you all if you didn't see the message on sunday again go to youtube and type in dealing with distractions is first thessalonians 2 and 18 but watch this i said that distractions come in three basic forms that distractions come in three basic forms here it is number one the enemy comes to distract you first and primarily with your identity your identity identity is constantly being challenged and the enemy understands that if he can distract you from knowing who you are then he can keep you from accomplishing what you've created what you've been created to accomplish he will attack your identity over and over and over and he will have people in your life who won't understand your worth and they will speak ill of you and you will be fighting a vapor of an imagination about who they say you are as opposed to who you actually are so it's your identity number two the second distraction that the enemy always uses is he not only distracts identity he but he distracts rhythm he will either try to speed you up yeah i'll slow you down yeah he will have you making decisions out of season or he will have you delaying yeah totally decisions and you will miss your cease so you got to understand that that he's an on-time god and to everything there is a time under the heavens and the season an appointed time to set in so so you got to always be in the season yes even if you're not on time and then the third thing that we said was that he will present you with the counterfeit yeah and i thought that that was amazing because the in order to to qualify for being a counterfeit it actually means that it bears resemblance to the authenticity and sometimes the enemy will put something in your life that looks exactly what god promised but there's just one thing about it there's just one thing about it it doesn't have if it's a counterfeit bill it may have it may have everything on it the right president the right text or the right field but it may be missing the strip yeah on the inside and that strip matters even if it has 99 of the right things if it doesn't have this one one thing it's not me then it is not valid and they always say that imitation is the the best form of flattery but but the devil is after your identity he's after your rhythm and he's after your perception he will give you a counterfeit thing and you will assume that it is real did you all identify with those three uh assumptions are are or edicts that i made as about as it relates to being distracted yeah yeah pastor and i liked how in when you started the message you talked about distractions as distraction yeah and i wanted to ask you if i could what immediately popped in my mind was the place as a young boy when you were working at taco bell i can imagine uh over time as i've seen i've never had the pleasure of working in that kind of environment but i've seen it um that as food and things get on the floor it gets slippery oh man you just took me back to 16. it gets slippery and and you have to learn how to uh still work you know now in today's time they've got these special shoes that you can put on yeah but but tell us about that how did you stay balanced when there was no traction on it you know what i i never would have thought about that you're absolutely right by the time you finish throwing that meat yeah on that bread salad and the salad hits the ground and the water cuz you back in those days i don't know how to do it now but when i was working at taco bell as a young man you had to boil the meat and you had to take it out of this big metal pot and with these tongs and the water would drip on the floor so you got water down there you got meat down there you got grease down there you got salad down there and and you do lose your balance but here's the way you keep it when you work at a fast food restaurant you have a section so as long as you stay in your place see i knew you're gonna put a revelation on it that's why i asked as long as you stay in your place see the problem is is if you're running down there with the prepper are you running down there you're not familiar with that area you're not familiar with that and anytime you're trying to get from where you've been positioned to somebody else's lane then you run into to imbalance right yeah so the way i stayed balanced is i just stayed where i was put so the true the true traction is staying where god has planted you i think that's good traction i think it's a great question i never would have thought about it um but but but i think it's absolutely being in your lane um and it's also making sure that you deal with anything in between you and what you're standing on yeah and the surface yeah because distraction comes when something creeps in yeah between you and what you're standing on between you and what you're working on between you and who you're loving on between you and what you're trying to accomplish and i think that you've got to be aware that the enemy is trying to sneak something in between you and purpose so that you will have no traffic no traction is a dis distraction this means a part yeah yeah and and and the second part of distraction in the latter in the latin means to drag away so really a distraction is anything that the enemy uses to drag you away from the market and right now some of you all have a mark that is set before you it's a prize for the upward call but but something is trying to drag you away and and it's a slow drag yeah yeah yeah it's a slow drag you don't even realize sometimes you're being dragged you don't realize you're being pulled away right you don't recognize that you don't have much surface to surface contact and before you know it you slip and you fall because something snuck in hey everybody we just wanted to stop right in the middle of this conversation to give you an opportunity to give you know i'm thinking right now of my college days i remember being a pastor at the age of 21 while i was in college i also remember being a full-time student and a basketball player all at the same time i'm 39 years old i've been saved since the age of six years old so that means i've been walking with jesus for 33 years almost 34. one thing that i've been taught by my mother and every spiritual leader that i have had is the importance of giving and let me tell you when i was in college those were some of the roughest years of my life i tore my acl in that time i broke my foot in that time i had so many difficult moments in that time and you know what it's the only time i remember not tithing it's the only time i remember when i wasn't a cheerful giver it's the only time i remember not giving as consistently as i have given as an adult i'm telling you you can always trace your famine back to when you were not planting seed i want you to make sure that you always have seed in the ground so that no matter what season it is you always got a harvest coming up out of the ground they're getting ready to put instructions up on the screen right now that will show you how you can take part in giving and giving is a privilege it is an honor to be able to give because if you give that receive it be blessed be a blessing now here's the second half pastor you know what i'm thankful for in spite of things dragging me away and i'll stay in my lane with with automotives in cars there's something called traction control yeah and in traction control what happens is that when one tire is slipping uh because there's no traction it the car understands i've got to divert more power and friction on another tire so it can have traction and and all the wheels will work simultaneously this one is slipping this one is working and that's the holy spirit that when something is trying to drag steve if we don't allow the holy spirit to guide us and we don't have the traction control we'll stay in the ditch we'll stay into the things that are causing us to to have failures and be by the wayside but the holy spirit will lead us and guide us to all truth and it will begin to turn all of our wills and we can get out of the situation ourselves so the bible says that paul was going to thessalonica and and he went over and over again but but satan hindered us and and when i looked at that uh as we said you're so tempted to look at satan but the objective is hindered they they escorted paul out of the city of thessalonica at night at night and he was just there to help him he just came there to preach the gospel to them to make sure that they could one day say like you and i that i am saved and that jesus christ is my lord and savior that's what he went there for the only purpose he went there for and the bible says it says that they escorted him out in the night they escorted him out and when i saw that paul went again yeah but because of their friction he turned around and went away and what i brought from that was sometimes god will use a person to escort you out of a thing because you don't understand that it was time to move on from the thing wow and sometimes god will use a person to escort you out and you'll be trying to stay and you'll be trying to be faithful and you'll be trying to keep the relationship going and you'll be trying to keep the friendship going and you don't understand that they don't want what you want that they that they that some people only want what you have but they don't want who you are and when what you have changes and who you are changes they'll escort you out at night and paul said no no i want to stay i want to stay but they're saying you got to go and sometimes i think that we need to learn to appreciate the people who escorted us out i mean how many of you would ever get to the point where you appreciate the boss that fired you right yeah because sometimes the business yeah comes out of my mother you talk about taco bell yeah my mother at the age of 16 fired me her own son her own son fired me because i wasn't working hard i wasn't showing up to work she said she said just because you are my son doesn't mean that i'm going to give you carte blanche and you're going i'm going to treat you just like i treat everybody else and now as a boss myself as an entrepreneur myself i make sure that everybody's treated fairly i did not recognize that being let go at 16 would affect who i am at 39 yeah and and and i thank god now that my mama escorted me out because now it helps me yeah to work in my environment and you don't understand how many things that have happened to you in the past god's gonna use in the future you're gonna use it man you know it's and when you talk about that that uh that word pastor uh in acts i believe it's the 13th chapter uh barnabas and paul yes try to go in to antioch and preach they get rejected yeah and the bible uses that uh that term that phrase that he that jesus gave to the disciples uh if they don't receive you shake the dust off your feet off your feet he went to his own he went to his own and his own receiver received them not yeah and see that's what paul's that's where paul's uh disenfranchisement came from because paul went there to help them yeah and and they didn't accept paul back again identity yeah that goes back to identity and what i learned through that is that sometimes uh we will be frustrated because paul went to them and presented himself as an evangelist and they didn't accept that now if probably if paul would have went because he had another profession maybe if he would have went and sold him some tents and built some tents they would have accepted him and i'm wondering how many of you all like paul have ever been in a situation where you were disenfranchised because people didn't accept the one the side of you you introduced yes yeah yeah or you offered them yeah because he went good he went good but good was rejected absolutely anyway and he went right and right was rejected and how many of you watching you went you did right and right was rejected yes you went in the spirit of holiness and holiness was rejected you you went in the spirit of of proper improper was rejected any of you have any of you guys ever went correct and still got rejected oh yes sir oh absolutely absolutely what about you best absolutely i've i've been in in situations where i went in right had the right things to say had the right clothes on and i was got i got fired before i got hired how you get fired before you you don't stand a chance you get in a relationship you thought you did all the right things but you thought they loved you but they hated you before they loved you yeah it's it's it's it sounds funny but that's the truth yeah i i can see that even as being a pastor like my goal as a pastor is to preach the gospel that people might be saved and it amazes me how many people don't accept that gospel oh my goodness it amazes me how many critics uh that being the gospel preacher will bring you because everybody has something to say about it because you have to understand that everybody's not prepared to accept the side of you that you introduced oh yeah yes that you have to understand that even if it's good even the gospel had his enemies even good has his enemies and you got to understand that you're going to treat people right joe 14 says a man born of a woman is of a few days and those few days are filled with trouble you got to understand that good has its enemies you have to understand that right has its enemies you have to understand that honor has its enemies that that you can be as good as you want to be and there will still be some that say crucify him yeah that's uh i think you helping right now a ton of people out there absolutely because people they've been offering something and they don't know that the people are not prepared to to receive that like you think that everybody is supposed to receive what you give especially if it's right yes and prepared well and baked good you think that they supposed to digest what you have some people would rather have your heart on the platter than your hand in their life they would rather see you die yes they would than to see them forgive they would rather see you destroyed rather than to see them better and you have to understand that if you wait on the lord yeah he will be he will put you in a position where you will be of good cheer paul was trying his best he's basically saying thessalonica do you know i'm here for you oh no i'm here for the culture i'm here i'm here for you i'm trying to make sure that your kids will know who jesus is and you're escorting me out by the night because you must understand that everybody is not prepared the bible says that they were hindered yeah and when the bible says that they hindered us i looked up the word hindered in the greek it means two things number one it means a road so deteriorated that you can't pass that you can't pass yeah yeah so the first thing i thought and i'm telling you that this word was more convicting right yeah then it was convincing yeah because in the position that i hold in life i run into this a lot i'm sure and i'm always uh trying my best to be good to people yeah and it is not always accepted so when i read this word i have to admit i was trying to get there and satan hindered us and so satan didn't pop out for me yeah hindered thee and i looked at it and said a road so deteriorated and broken that it cannot be imp uh past and then i said to myself and i hope you're listening to me the lord spoke to me sitting at my breakfast table as i was preparing this word for you the lord told me he said keon tell the people that everybody who comes after my children all of them are not satanic right some of them are just broken reverend that was a revelation for the people he said that some of them are just broken you think your husband is angry he's just broken you think your wife doesn't listen she is just broken you think your children are hard-headed they are just broken mephibosheth you think he can't walk yeah he can't walk but it isn't because he was born that way somebody dropped him by the drugs you think that your father wasn't there because he holds something against you and you've been asking what was it about me he raises other children but he didn't raise me you had to understand that you were born out of brokenness that that your situation was more broken than the birth of the other one so you gotta understand what happened to me what happened to me and when you understand what happened yeah to me as opposed to what's wrong with me or what happened to my father as opposed to what's wrong with my father or what happened to my wife as opposed to what's wrong with my wife or what happened to my husband as a part as opposed to what's wrong with my what happened to my child when you question when you change the questions yes then you have a different answer yes you're dealing with somebody who is broken sometimes and not always say to you oh goodness when you talked about that path of uh being broken i thought about the difference in distractions of detours versus diversions a detour is a planned change in course whereas a diversion is a chan a a change in course with no direction that's awesome and so so sometimes when we find ourselves journeying uh in the place called there we're going to be uh encountered with people who may be broken but in some cases god will give us a detour a plan change right but then we got to deal with uh the diversion there's no change so then i began to look up diversion and and there was a medical study in 96 basically says that when patients go to the hospital or the doctor's office they found out that they could do what's called uh attitude diversion basically if they could create the waiting room in a way to stimulate the mind that the patient would almost be anesthetized and forget about that they were sick in the first place so sometimes our attitude uh and what we see and what we focus on will change the distraction and they actually called it a positive distraction so then i said god all distractions are not bad some distractions are there to bring you to a detour because he says you talked about jeremiah for i know the plans i have for you god's already provided a way of escape a detour for us but if we don't allow where he's taking us it's a diversion and we we're we're out a ship with no sail the thessalonians served as that positive distraction they are the ones that escorted him out and you got to stop being mad at people who god leveraged to lift you up i mean you just have some people in your life use them that god used them to get you where he wanted you to be and it may not have been through the means you would have received yeah yeah or anticipated but nonetheless it was for you it was for you i'm working things for your good yeah so you know that when you were talking past about uh the the waiting room and changing how things look and set up and they'll change their attitude i started thinking i asked you guys maybe um distraction has a lot to do with the environment yes okay yeah explain what you mean meaning that that the the places we we allow ourselves to travel to the places that we allow ourselves to go and sit down in or it may not be physically maybe just maybe mentally right the places you allow yourself to go mentally mentally allow distractions to find you much easier that's why the bible says uh be transformed by the renewal of your mind because when you don't uh renew your mind the same things that were distraction outside of the marriage outside the relationship become distractions in the marriage you know you're absolutely right about that because i i just recently read something you know we always talk about israel being in the wilderness but i read something recently that suggests yeah that the children of israel were in five different wilderness yes yes sir that because of their mindset they kept finding what they just came out of oh my goodness so they were not in one wilderness and if you read deuteronomy chapter three it gives credence because it says we have compassed about this mountain long enough in other words they were not on one linear journey for 40 years they actually were in a circular motion for 40 years which means that no matter how many times they turned yes they kept finding the same thing what they just came out of that no matter how many times they turn they found the same environment because sometimes what we think is a distraction is actually a decision come on it's a mindset and that we make the same choice over and over and over and over and over again because we did not this we did not deal with our decision-making which we tried to abdicate everything to a distraction and some things are not distractions some things are decisions yes sir i thought about uh just recently this week my daughter was we were at a game and she's playing basketball and she gets filed and she's doing the and one um and and there's some other players are in the stands and they had this thing when the players on the line uh given shoot the free throw and the play you know each player has a routine bounce bounce you know yeah uh spin uh the play the people in the stands would say bounce bounce spin they would mimic audibly what the player was doing to distract them from uh yeah they were distracted from trying to hit the shot and uh my daughter's on the line and she's doing that and when she starts doing that they start chanting that and immediately i could tell she was distracted and so uh her her energy her her routine was changed because of the distraction and all i could do was pray and i said honey oh you can't hear me because i'm loud in this thing i didn't want to yell don't pay no attention to them but but something in me said she knows to stay focused because distractions will change our energy right but concentration will restore it and so i saw her for a moment she's you know i got to illustrate this so she's you know she's you do the bounce bounce okay
