[Music] so I pull it off Interstate 64 here in Kentucky to a truck stop truck stop I expect to be able to get some fuel but they took the pumps out a few years ago so why so many cars well word is around here they're making all sorts of food like mama used to make Thank You graving which is good eat oh man it doesn't stop does it not deep fried chicken bread please bring it in everyone you don't say like that's the way Juanita Flannery learn before she opened this place 29 years ago everything okay it's just like in our last stop folk here got used to filling up while they were filling up it's the best lighting on this after here till Juanita decided to gas pumps were too big a hassle and shut him down had we known years ago that it wouldn't have affected the restaurant is it busier now than when it was a truck for years me 14 years in my I've been coming here ever since they've opened really wanting to know what's cool again watching your best how does it stack up to how mommy think identical nothing says Mama's country cooking like Juanita specialty Vicki right me they make the best in time and she's do you from a kitchen that looks more like it's in a home than a restaurant you keep the eggs where I keep mine now where did you learn how to make biscuits when I was 12 years old I went to a boarding school we all had to do a task and - to make biscuits for the whole school and my grandmother made it every every morning oh you're a biscuit Queen no I don't know about that this is self-rising flour she already has our baking account this is shortening you work all this in you try to get those granules how much yeah that's for slowly and I'll lick it up good for is the prerequisite in biscuits to get the flour everywhere yes you don't have it to your nose your elbow you got issues evident like okay baby shortening to get this hot let's get some flour we're gonna start thickening this up mate looks like a little Roux here we're starting to brown up a bit on the bottom okay turn it down keep it please and I'm a good stir you are you're very good you stare almost as well as you eat as ie champion I'm like a Super Bowl champion you hold it a little bit of flour so it's manageable oh there's some thickens can you spoon on a little clarified butter or short it's a short mmm that's a new way from this gets I didn't I've never seen that much shortening gone I like it how long take the Mystics to cook about 10 minutes sausage goes down into that if you got the sausage in right away it still keep going to talk harbor okay now all of the gets in my mouth it almost just oh well you know it's good gravy when the first bite that you get has a big old piece of sausage in it and it's not just teasing you with sausage flavor inside of that you not in it good gravy girl just like mama would make hard to be and you eat him three times a day it's after breakfast you can get him with anything else on the menu it's good country food and a good country atmosphere which makes this everybody to go to kitchen we're down to 90 tickets my baby this is like a culinary ballet I'm in the way y'all been here before oh yeah every good seriously we do we have everyday I cannot believe you turn out this volume of food that quick cranking out country classics I've got some next a mashed potatoes green bean and local favorites smoggy burgers huge able to fit that I'm gonna try no maybe with McCallion seeds in it's very good and if you're going for a hot dog you expected to come with meat sauce on top that's the only way we hot dogs around here 25:15 onions yeah where'd you learn how to make this one just in my hand now what starts morning sauce little pickle tomorrow that's chili powder this is some ketchup and it's played a song it looks like it's got some spicy like that a little brown sugar Oh little buster they don't like something that bite mm-hmm that smells good oh we do need onion all right good sauce simple sauce from a good shot give tomato flavor a little bit of the spice I'll get out 3 or 12 hours and some of Juanita's homemade dessert smoky valleys coconut cream pie it's the best around when we come back we're baking Juanita's way that's vodka [Music] at the Smoky Valley truck stop and Olive Hill Kentucky juanita Flannery's cooking up all the local favorites just like we might get help home cooking especially the very few real recipes around here this is great for me because I can't bake to save my life and now we're not even gonna have a real recipe okay we need lemon salt and little more and this is your shortening would you like to beat those up for me I'm only doing so would you let me get your Meg now how often do you make the the pies excuse me times a day okay uh-huh always rolled for me sent her out in her aunt's right hold it over look at that what a pro look at Madison turned out okay then we're going to do this poking a little bit of holes in it let's just move free some of the steam so doesn't bubble up exactly and that'll go down for what 15 to 20 I'm gonna make the coconut creamer yeah horse dark and a little bit of meal getting those measurement ratios I love my little icing sugar and then we're going to set our yolks are here mix that again we're going to strain this mixture into our meal because there could be some eggs slide in here that would call something funny so you're just gonna continue to stir that and cuz you got corn starch in there so that mixture starts to heat up that'll really start to tighten connector looks we're going to pin to better and a little bit of vanilla extract that's my secret let's vodka you see why they like him so I'll be coming back a little bit of coconut whole lick the spoon daddy's happy which it makes him Mirai for now a little bit of sugar bring it look out my magic you do with just a spoon little coconut and that'll crisp up brown we put it to heaven Wow it's Christmas in flavortown look at that thing I don't know that I have ever jumped into an adventure of that much of then your meringue you're pretty exceptional my favorite is the crunchy cooked coconut on top yeah ladies and gentlemen come to Kentucky and buy your pies it's just delicious another your speaks like Juanita fixes everything up and down the menu good hump it delicious very few place your service food like then they're all here for your home cooking like mama used to make a lot of happy folks live I mean place is packed gimmick it oh well that's better than not enough right
