hey everyone Adam here with point blank bringing you a firearm review today we've got the Smith & Wesson M&P 40 caliber subcompact I was working into this review I'm going to go ahead and do a CF check for everybody out there as you can see we've got nothing in the magazine also nothing in this one and we've got nothing in the chamber good to go now I've had this firearm for about two and a half three months and so far I absolutely love it it's a very well-built gun and shoots well it's accurate good quality can't ask for much more so getting into the review starting from the bottom we have a 10 round capacity magazine with a pinky extension on it since this is a subcompact makes a little bit more comfortable for people with larger size hands carry and the magazine is actually steel which I actually really like it has more of a quality feel to it and you know as opposed to those ones that are made out of polymer plastic or you know whatever else are made out of now moving on to the grip it's a textured polymer grip makes it a little bit more comfortable has a removable back strap on which this actually took me a little while to figure out but in order to get that out you want to release the magazine you can flip the gun upside down and that little part right there actually comes off that is actually a tool that's used for doing some maintenance on your gun and taking it apart so if you twist it sideways like that see you can just kind of twist it like that get a hold of it there give a little bit of a wiggle while pulling comes right out now not only does this act as a tool it is also a locking mechanism that locks the back strap off so that that's off there we can go ahead and slip it off and as you can see that's just a textured piece of rubber that fits on the back there now when you buy these brand new or if you buy them from a shoe one of the time they're going to come with three of these a small medium and a large unfortunately for me the time that I got it was used and the person that I purchased it from had actually missed place the other grips but luckily for me this one is actually the one that I would have used anyway it's comfortable for my hand it's the proper size for me so we can't complain a lot now one thing that I really do like about this firearm is that the controls on it are pretty much only in Baddeck serious the magazine release as you can see here on the right hand side and push to release that or if you were to turn the gun over for someone that's left-handed as you can see right there the magazine release is kind of part of the gun it's not you know you can't push it there but if you were to actually take the handle apart and there's actually instructions on on your instruction manual or if you were to go on YouTube or Google I'm sure you could probably google that but you can actually remove the magazine release from this side and move it over here so that way there if you are left-handed you can actually you know release it with your left hand so I'm personally right-handed so I don't think I'm ever going to use that but it is nice to know that the option is there if I would ever want it now moving on up the slide release is also ambidextrous as you can see it's got it right there and then when you put the firearm around it's also right there also another thing that's pretty convenient you know you're like handed like I said I'm right-handed so I'm never gonna use that but you know if I wanted to sell the firearm down the road and president wanted to sell it to is left-handed that'd be a good good selling feature for it so it's nice to know that it's there as far as the trigger pull goes trigger feels a little bit spongy I guess that is one thing that I could say I don't particularly like about it but the trigger pull is kind of spongy go ahead do them escape check for you guys nothing in there nothing the magazine Tribble is a little bit spongy it feels like you have to pull the trigger quite a ways before it actually goes off I'm not so sure I like that I mean it's not a you know not a make a break feature but I would like a little bit more of a crisper trigger on it which you can actually buy an apex trigger system and install and that'll remedy that issue you can get those for about 120 hundred and thirty dollars depending upon which one you get now moving up we've got a stainless steel slide with serrations on the back which make it very easy to grip so you can see has a lot of grip there and it's not it's not rigid it's not harsh it doesn't hurt your hand it's just kind of you know it's kind of stylish and it makes it to where you can grip it a bit easier and pull it back makes it easier to rack the slide looking at the top of the firearm you'll see that the rear and the front sights that'll focus front and the rear sights are both stainless steel and they are both removable the whole thing is out there you can get a little tool and you can actually remove it move it to the left move it to the right or if you'd like you can actually buy a site upgrades you can get ones that are fiberglass that kind of catch more light for low light situations say you know you've got it as your home defense weapon and here in always in the middle of the night you can get those sights and they're actually going to make it to where you can aim down your sights quite a bit easier now looking on the underside of the gun on the rail we've actually got some rail attachments right there it's not very big there's not a whole lot of room there but you could add something on there like a flashlight or a laser light if you need to but it's nice to know that it's there even though it is kind of limited on what you can do with it now also on the top of the gun is you can see there is a loaded indicator right there now I'm not going to fire it my fingers not going to be on the trigger I'm actually going to keep my hand down on the handle but you'll see that if you actually get one in the magazine like I said here's going to see in their cut the bullet now if you look in there if I give it the focus can I actually see you right there you can see the bullet so gives you an indication that you've actually got something in there now I'm going to go ahead and pop this magazine out and gets around out of here safety first everybody always remember that so that is another nice feature so you'll always know when you've got one in the chamber now something that I noticed when I first got this is that the magazine was a little bit difficult to get into the firearm when it was fully loaded right now it just kind of slips right in there because I've modified it but when I first got it you would seriously you would get to about right there and it would stop you'd have to like seriously put some pressure on there to get it to go in there so that is another thing that I can say you know I didn't particularly like but as you can see it was easily remedied I actually got the magazine out got our little nifty tool right here pull it out you can actually use that to take your magazine apart if you look there's a little button right there and if we push that in and then slide it's being tricky it's easier if you hold it like this to where the pinky grip is facing away from you push down there you can actually push forward now always make sure that you put your thumb over because there is a spring in there it's going to fly out a check your thumbs not there but you can work that off like I said there's a spring in there and the plate told it in there now when I did is this spring assembly I actually got a pair of wire cutters and I took off the bottom coil to make toward the spring was a little less tense got this fitted back on here and then I put it back in the magazine now you gotta be a little bit careful doing this to kind of the same story got a spring in there it's going to be a little bit of a pain but hopefully we can get this in here for real easy they're young but yeah pretty simple fix and that goes in there nice and easy whoo let's hear ya couple back in yeah as far as the actual firing of the gun it doesn't have a whole lot of kick like you would expect from a subcompact especially with it being a 40 caliber subcompact the kick really isn't that bad um I mean I can go on fire all day I mean my wrist doesn't get sore there isn't a whole lot of kick to it it's fairly comfortable and the accuracy is surprisingly spot-on for a subcompact I can stand it about thirty yards and hit a target every single time with this 10 out of 10 rounds and I mean that's pretty accurate for a subcompact can't really ask for much more out of that so overall if you guys are thinking about getting the Smith & Wesson M&P 40 compact I would highly recommend it it's comfortable it's accurate it's easy to work on there's just not a whole lot that you can say negatively about this gun and those things that are a little bit iffy are very easily fixed so yeah you guys are thinking about getting one I would highly recommend it thanks for watching
