what's up guys welcome back to another episode of outdoor shelf life I'm taco and I got Daniel with me philosophy D and we're out here today fishing for sharks and rays and we're also with Jocelyn and our buddy James as well we're gonna catch a shark a leopard shark let me tell you just in the beginning that leopard sharks are not endangered at all they are in the least concerned so these leopard sharks are abundant around here it's been exactly a year exactly here and sweep targeted these sharks yeah we only ate one in our lifetime yep exactly you know we've it's not like we go for these sharks all the time yeah and this has become like a little once a year kind of thing go for sharks once a year eat them one time you know everything in moderation should be good all right so let's hope we catch one yeah whoop [Music] I have a 40 pound braid mainline and I have I have a slider on there with a 4 ounce pyramid weight attached to a barrel swivel and a steel leader only about 14 inches maybe and to a 4 OTT barbless hook so the bay I'm using first is old Toro I cleaned out my freezer last night and I found a nice little chunk in the back of the freezer and so it's not really good to eat but for these sharks and rays should be delicious let's see I'll just say into the middle of the channel and we go now well fishing shoutout to JJ and his siblings from Minnesota sent me this real debate runner real the same unit sent to me a while ago but this is a perfect opportunity for me to use it when I'm going for these kind of sharks and rays what it is is that I can so the drag is set right now really tight but once I flip this open it loose into the drag so the whatever the fish is able to take the line once I see this line you know peeling off then I just have to and it'll click back and the drag will be set again click that up for now and let's wait for it to start running well I got a second rod so the first one I'll give it to Jocelyn I got a second rod here and this one I put on a piece of octopus so that right here should be good bait to Daniel and James have rockfish for bait so we got a variety of bay going on let's see what it bites on first my rod yeah I did shake a little it was a little doodoo yeah there could be crabs doing that too but when it's a when it's a shark or a ray it's gonna take off you'll know good to be fishing again with these guys Daniel and James man yeah these guys are awesome I love fishing with them so there's this little activity in Japan we're doing the summertime see it's like I just say it's like Japanese pinata yeah it's like a Japanese pinata with the watermelon put a watermelon on the ground like with the on top of a tarp and you take a stick blindfolded spin around and you got like one swipe got the watermelon to try to break it and it once you break it we eat the watermelon that's what we do in Japan in the summertime so we're probably gonna do that later I brought a watermelon so might be a little funny whenever you want a beer I'm ready it does huh yeah yeah hopefully hopefully it picks up you know once the water starts to get warm yeah yeah Cheers oh oh oh here we go here we go mm-hmm obstacle yeah I saw that [Laughter] are you really didn't check the bait baits gone alright so Jostens baits gone the old Toro she says she felt a little bite earlier so maybe look at this play this fat chunk of Alton all right here for the fish that's a that's a twelve dollar piece of ol turtle if you get that in RS truck we're also using barbless so it's easier for the ones we have to release it's easier to take the bait take the hook out of the shark's mouth what's she doing man what do you really I see you keep recording that he's just recording a little ghost shrimp shell eye dude how many we're gonna catch two you think yeah yeah it's probably been a couple hours I think we're gonna catch four sharks in one rake whoa four sharks one ray all right James over the head laughing she liked James like yeah right James saying one shark but a but a really good one all right you're gonna catch what I'm gonna catch seven seven yeah seven bunch of the seaweed Wow can I eat the seaweed yeah no thanks I can get you 10 clams right now Oh we'll see man yeah we'll see it's hope for the best me no I think I think I'll catch a ray buy one ray at least last time I got two or two or three Ray's one one huge one yeah well if you guys haven't seen that video go check that one out that was a that was a fun day that was exactly one year ago yeah that me and Daniel I think that was the last one we did a collab on yeah yeah I did have some beers but yeah all the time we just yeah he just comes over it I have some beers at the park all the time so I thought we did one more recently but no gifts a lot man it's been a whole year since we did an actual cloud yeah so let's go down heck yeah let's get it up slowly enough there it goes there it goes no no there's nothing on there yeah it was it was taking a little drag let me leave it for another minute and then I'll check the bait ready almost spin you all right yeah let's go let's go no you go into the water all right one more time three beers in doing all right right here we're here why that's straight right there yep yep oh my goodness not where I thought it is ready yeah go keep going yep keep going forward go forward go forward go go go little bit to the right turn right turn right yeah yep right in front of you lockdown lockdown about three feet in front of you turn to the right you want to call yeah right there right there oh no you were like ten inches you're like ten inches away - [Laughter] right there twelve O'Clock walk forward straight forward go more and more ten feet away yap yap y'all stop weigh your weight one more step note to the right yeah right there right there right there whoa Oh perfect oh my god you're like yeah well to the right yeah keep going keep going straight there we go four feet in front of it yeah that is yeah [Laughter] left right here right here yeah yeah you want to do it yeah yeah your swing your swing right to the right to the right yeah yeah yep swing down Oh take another swing take another swing Oh a little bit to the right to the right to the right all right let's just split it open yeah oh yeah there you go that's a good piece ha ha ha just learn what they're talking so if you guys want some time here's the Japanese pinata mmm mm-hmm the big bite right now big buy here we go there we go Daniel's Go Daddy is on still on Daniel is on baby haircalf fish on fish on fish on do it took a bite it took yeah took a bite of mine and it went right tours yeah oh yeah never shark nice nice there you go there you go we got him got him got him nice there we go that's a perfect size to eat yeah that's perfect sighs hey yes that's what's up dude hey yeah let's do a quick measure make sure he's 36 for these guys in a minute that's a beauty okay so there's your 36 inches okay so that's around 40 perfect perfect oh yeah sighs right there yeah it's maybe 41 42 there you go easy does it barbless hook right there they don't really have a peak they don't really have teeth that's serrated I bet you wanna catch something bigger later here they're coming yeah I love how they look the patterns beauty beauty Oh these sharks are very very abundant in California and uh yeah man we're gonna cook this one up yeah the the limit is a 36 inches three feet to keep and this one's over that it's over 40 inches right here I think this is a perfect size to keep I didn't want to keep anything close to 50 inches or anything a little too big but hey for four of us here perfect yeah so what happened right now is that I had a bite little real big bite boom boom boom and it just came off and then right about 30 seconds later Daniel got that bite on his rod so we're gonna we're gonna uh dispatch and bleed this shark out right now make sure to take it out of his misery and go ahead let's cut the gills too so we're gonna put it back in the water and make sure the shark gets bled out so people say that sharks feed through their skin which is kind of true sharks have a concentration of urea in their blood plasma so that turns into ammonia once they die and they start to break down and that leeches out to their the meat the flesh of the fish the flesh of the shark and that kind of a secret out of the skin and that is what's kind of like the pee they're peeing out of their skin so what you have to do is you have to make sure to dispatch it and then bleed it out right away because the urea comes from their blood as long as it's blood out properly you won't get that kind of ammonia taste in the meat itself so that's what we did we bled it out James bled it out and we have it in the water right now Daniel got the first one I had that bite right beforehand Osmani yeah that actually came on my my rod first stole my fish you think I'm not missing this bite James got one yeah let's go James I know it's over so if it's over yeah [Music] there you go oh that's a nice one that's a nice one it stick there you go yeah should get all that line off it's dark huh yeah it's real dark James 51 inch leopard shark for James nice there she goes nice yeah yeah well Daniel got one then James got one maybe 20 minutes later and I think the fresh bait was the key both of them weren't on the fresh Jack smell right mm-hmm both on the fresh Jack smell that James car and in Daniel caught a couple more fresh ones so I put one on Johnson put one on so here we go the bites picking up [Music] let's lay the shark here I'm gonna just take the head off first right behind the fin I'm just going to go down take his head off alright now we got to take his fins off I'm just gonna Flay just I would a normal fish very tough leathery skin pretty much like sandpaper that's what it feels like [Music] yeah yeah it's super white neat and it's look at me yeah look at this so like right here [Music] [Music] let's see so just sharks this is not actually boned I guess there's 100% cartilage [Music] [Music] let's do this one too we're gonna wash all this no worries oh if you got to turn it on this is a high-tech yeah so yeah yeah yeah you can charge your phone on it and once it gets going Oh it'll get going real fast this is the bio light fire pit it's not sponsored but we're testing it out for the first time and it's s'posed it's like a high-tech fire pit where you can control the air flow and it's supposed to be smokeless and it's supposed to be really cool so first time trying it out let's see how it goes and the coals are getting hot fast let's turn down the fan a little bit there we go now we're grilling some shark trying to get there it's a little hot it's to our super-thick so they don't need a little more time yeah ooh ooh ding that is juicy yeah these two are done here we go buttery buttery garlic bread toasted up real quick I like that I like that sliding feature that's pretty cool top the shark with a little lemon juice all right I just pickled these onions last night Johnson wants a lot of pickles yeah I was literally just thinking you can put as many as you can fit that could be yours that's the shortest well it's cuz there on the hill yeah all right cheers guys okay good day good right there - another shark need a couple more bites to get really in there but the tar on the outside very firm me hmm actually really yeah it's good right yeah yeah it's got a nice kick to it I put a little tight chili in there and yeah pickled red onion so the bread we toasted it off like a little butter and garlic girl leopard shark just with salt and pepper and a little sunflower sprouts in there too just for a little green mm-hmm and the amazing thing is so so juicy like it's dripping down my eyes yeah yeah yeah you guys it's flavors yeah hello thicker than mine looks like you can just squeeze it you know the juices will come out it's amazing how kind of glossy the meat is and the taste of it none of that ammonia kind of taste not at all never shocked really holds up well when you grill it some some other fish if you grill fillet it'll just break apart you know about leopard shark is firm it'll stay together getting a really nice garlic kick right now from that bread mmm leopard sharks can carry a bit of mercury they accumulate as they get older yeah so these younger ones the ones that are just over the legal size I get to eat I think we'll clean up here and we'll head out but thank you guys for watching as always philosophy D right here this is my guy yeah you guys haven't seen his channel go check it out links in the description philosophy d thank you guys for coming out thank you James good catch good catch all right thanks for watching peace out see you next time you got it down the Piron see right just make sure we leave this place better than that was there's a bottle there and a can there was spiderwebs here by the web look at this glass bottle yeah all broken make sure to pick these up
