[Music] angelic ingenious supplies [Music] ladies and gentlemen step right up you are about to witness the most astounding the most confounding why it's the biggest game ever in the teeniest box you've ever seen join nikki lincoln nick and myself as we play scout a game for two to five players published by oink games and designed by k kagino so join us in the big top four you're about to see the greatest game on earth hey dave lincoln hey wait you just scout i will it's all caps scout in scout we are running a circus oh and we are we have these circus performers aka cards and we are trying to put on the best show so as we can score points scout is sort of a trick taking climbing shedding ladder game thing it's all kinds of stuff it's all kinds of different stuff gripping with theme right all right anyway scout is a deck of 45 cards uh the cards are numbered one through ten all right and there are nine each of those numbers and you're like well wait a minute if there's nine numbers from one to ten that's more than 45 cards ah yes you math genius the thing about the word the thing about the cards is they're sort of dominoes in a sense because this has got a three on one side and a six on the other and you're only ever going to play one side of your cards so even though there are nine threes in the deck you're not gonna get potentially all nine threes but you could i'm just saying it none of this really matters as far as strategy for playing the game it's just description um we're going to deal out cards and then um whoever has the one two is going to be the start player for round one and then from that they'll get the start player marker and then we'll play three more rounds it's one round per player and the star player marker at that point will just go clockwise so we'll all be start player once at the end of four rounds whoever has the highest score wins so we're going to deal out the whole deck with four players you remove the 910 so that's not in the deck and when you get your hand of cards the first thing you're going to do first off let me the first thing you're not going to do is rearrange you're not allowed to rearrange or short your hands very important yes if you played bonanza if you played crass carrier carrier this is that game gets referenced a lot in reference to this game there are a lot of similarities but there are also plenty of differences anyway there's your hand so the first decision you're going to make when you get your hand is do i want to play this side or do i want to play this side you are allowed to make a flip at this point before the game starts you are not allowed once you flip to ever do that again for the rounds i just do that the whole game so once you pick a side that's the side you're on alright so let's talk about gameplay when it is your turn you can do one of three things you can show which essentially means play a card or cards to the table you can scout which i'll explain in a second or you can scout and show which will make complete sense once i explain both scout and show so show is this on your turn if you want to show you're going to take any number of cards from your hand and play them face up to the table it's like you're playing face up for a trick all right i have a sample hand over here and you can take if you want to take one card and place it down on the table you can take any one card from your hand alright if you however want to take two cards from your hand to the table they must be next to each other you can only take cards out of your hand that are consecutively next to each other that are adjacent sorry all right and if you want to take three cards those three cards must also be adjacent et cetera et cetera et cetera so you are always playing either a one card or a clump of cards that are all together in your hand right all right so what can you play well if you play a single card that's pretty basic you're playing a single card if you're playing the other types of flavors you can play in this game there's only two you can either play cards that are essentially straights or cards that are essentially of a kind so if i wanted to play this five six that's a two card straight if i want to play it or i could have played this as a pair of fives right that's two fives when you play a straight not only do they have to be next to each other but they also must be either in ascending or descending order depending on the straight you are playing so for example i can play this six seven eight from this hand because that's a straight right i cannot play this seven six eight even though those three cards make a straight but they're not in order right all right um similarly i cannot play this six seven nine eight but i could play just this eight nine if i wanted to i'm not sure i'd want to but you could right um additionally uh if i got rid of this eight here then i could play this five six seven i mean once you move cards out you can rearrange them and that sort of thing but a straight has to either be in ascending or descending order when you pull it from your hand okay so how are we playing cards to the table it's kind of standard trick taking game if i say come out and play a six then on nicki's turn she can either show scout or scout and show all right if she wants to show which is to say play cards from the table she has to play something that's higher than what i played alright obviously any single card higher than a six is higher than a six but let's say she played a five four that's higher than a six it's two cards straight that would be a four or five five four four five whatever okay so if you played something higher than the previous show then you collect that face down in front of you that's the trick taking part all right and that's good because every face down card you have at the end of the round is worth one point regardless of what number's on they're just a blank at one point okay now it's lincoln's turn he can show scout or scout and show if he wants to play a h a thing higher than this so it's again standard sort of trick taking higher than this rules which is to say number of cards is always higher so any three card hand that you play is going to be higher than nicki's two-card hand but if you want to play a two-card hand five-five would be higher right a pair yeah a pair a pair four four be higher a pair of twos would be higher okay yeah yes because a pair is higher than always right straight okay but if she but if you wanted to play a straight you'd have to be higher than that so you could play a five six that would be higher you could play a nine 910 that would be or one two three or any three card hand or a four card hand for that matter you can jump there's nothing that says you have to just beat her hand okay let's say it's your turn let's say nick has played this 910 and let's say it's my turn okay let's say my hand looks like this all right and it's nick's turn now i can't beat nick's hand hey beaten it i can't i can't beat nick's hand and even if i had this and i could beat nick's hand i'm not required to beat his hand if i don't want to i can instead do something that's called scout when you scout you take a card from what the player has placed face up on the table and you add it anywhere to your hand alright that gets that player a victory point so i would take a card from nick he would get a victory point for my scouting and i would take a card from his hand when you take a card from someone's hand you can only take cards that are on the end in this case in this case it doesn't matter but here yeah right so i'm going to take this 9 from nick's hand that he played to the table and i'm going to add it to my hand and the reason i took this one is when you take a card to add it to your hand you may if you would like take it for the other number and add it to your hand and you can place it anywhere anywhere on your hand yeah so now i have this yeah now that's my whole turn i have scouted which is to say i have given you a point nikki's turned now and now she doesn't have to beat a 910 anymore she just has to be to 10. so i've made that and nikki could in theory scout that 10 which would allow lincoln to play anything because now he doesn't have to beat anything yep all right let's say i played this on my turn so nikki if she wanted to scout she's only going to get these cards right you can only take from the ends but if she takes this one now lincoln can only get these cards okay let's say nick played let's say you played chris christian over here you are crushing 8 9 10. let's play you let's say you played this 7 8 9 10. all right and i had this in my hand once per round you get it back when we reshuffle and deal the next round once per round you can scout and show and what that means is pretty much what it sounds like first off you toss this chip into the middle so you know you don't have it anymore you give the person the victory point for scouting i'm gonna take this seven and play it as a seven in this case and then i'm gonna show i'm gonna immediately play this i'm gonna capture these cards and they go face down in front of me so i now have this played to the table and i've made three victory points by the end of the game for the end of the round all right so that's scout and show question yes when you when you're doing a scouting show when you show does the card you just scouted have to be in the show nope you could you could take grab that card just show something else also beats everything all scouting show means is you're going to do both of those things on your turn you are almost always going to show with the card you scouted but you are correct that you do not have okay cool all right the round is going to end in one of two ways the first way is that someone will play their last cards from their hand all right if you are the player that plays your last cards from your hand let's say i played this eight nine these are my last two cards boom and maybe i captured a one from nick for some crazy reason he had one i don't know why all right that ends the round we are now going to score these cards that you played don't count for anything face up cards on the table don't count for anything and now as the person that went out i will get one point per card here and by the way sold everybody else the only penalty you guys will have if you didn't go out is you will also subtract one card for every hand card one point for every card for every card in your hands right yeah okay that's one way the round ends another way the round ends is if i play cards to the table or anyone plays cards at the table and it gets back around to them and they still have cards on the table let's say i played this and nikki can't beat that so she scouts and lincoln can't beat that so he scouts and you can't beat that so you scout it's back to you that ends the round in this case again these cards go away they don't count any cards that i have in my hand do not count against me and now we just scored normally one point and those cards we just bought we we gave a point yeah we lose a point you lose the point for those two you get one point for this minus one for every card in your hand plus one for every one of these right yes these are all victory points at the end of the round those are all go back we'll all get our scout and show token back for the next round the start player token will rotate and we're gonna play four times and the game comes with handy dandy scoring chits so you don't even need like a little piece of paper did you already pull out the cards we don't need four players i pulled out the 910. it's just the 910 just one 9 and 110. no it's actually one card the nine ten oh okay think of it like a domino yeah [Music] all right this is not in the rules but since it kind of doesn't matter after you get your cards if you feel like you want to shuffle them more yourself before you look at them i said go for it that's right we get all the cards yeah we deal the whole thing out okay i'm not going to shuffle all right so first decide which side you want to play on shovel and just so you know i have the one too so i am the start player i'm convenient i'll show it by the way just for people knowing the kid goes right there the one two actually has like a little top hat thing to like to let you know that that's the star player guard the anthony anthony all the cards have names oh i got season unicycle that's the best card in the game all right i'm just late now i got thomas unicycle that's not quite might be better you never know is that his name thomas unicycle they all have names and they're like or trapeze it could be thomas trapeze guy or thomas okay you're recycling person i love this i'm not gonna lie juggling all right i don't love any of it hang on look at that look at this site one more time i know i was trying signs are not great honestly yeah i think i'm going to keep it here though all right i'm going for this one let me look at the other side i'm going for this side tell me when you guys are ready and i'll start it is nice that the cards show you what's on the other side on this side as well so yeah it's easy to see what i can never look at them that way though and see that i just can't do it okay i have to flip them over yeah yeah i'm gonna go this way all right have we all chosen i think so i just need to fan my cards well i don't think my move whether you've done anything is gonna change anything you're gonna do nikki i'm going to start with this exciting one all right beat it nikki just beat it early game scout all right you collect that sweet sweet okay yeah that's what happened there it's a 10 to me on this side you do have to make sure um everybody about me that's good unicycle my apologies tennis player nine what's the frequency cannon i know all right nine okay yep okay okay okay you can do any of that i guess we should just call out what we're playing just to make it less yeah yeah hmm one two oh no for a straight life collect straight knife hmm a rump i say i didn't get a hormone even if you had like two ones right that would beat this yeah sure i mean i can play something but it doesn't necessarily build towards anything well do you need a one six or a two four i mean i'm looking at it with that six it's actually pretty good yeah nothing wrong with scouting early even if you can beat a car yeah that's what is so interesting is scouting you don't necessarily have to yeah that'll be that'll be good here if there's a card that thing that helps you set up for stuff well i'll just i'll just do this all right take two they're small uh-oh i might be scouting depending on what nick all right it's a hard knock life oh okay take your point take your stupid all right can you beat that dude i can eat the sick i'll be there with a pair of right 10 just a 9 10. oh thank you thank you uh okay uh i'm just gonna go threes because a pair of beats is two cards straight yep those aren't the cards i want that's too bad you didn't want jennifer drums or larry drums it's okay [Music] we were doing this we played this and we were doing the you know but um the circus for connie music circus you can do a whole night of circus guys uh okay take a point dave okay you're scouting yeah just scout are you scout and playing no i can't remember what i was gonna grab you want a two a five or a seven yeah yeah it was something special that was this okay okay place it anywhere in your hand all right lincoln beat a five yeah i can do that i can do that it looks exactly the same but it's not nope it does but it doesn't this one's stephen stephen on stilts or he's on stilts because he's a seven that's a wrong comb if i ever heard it come on nick put down what i want uh is it to me i'm sorry is it vincent trampoline no but i am going to scout that card nikki you can play whatever you'd like for the pints well let's let's do it here [Music] [Laughter] he's going straight to the top the big top well it was never going to get tired of that joke i don't like you anymore sorry um okay let's do i'm gonna scout let's go and show or discount just scan okay well boo because i really wanted more points than just one card for these three two that's right but i'll take these three two sorry okay okay nikki p yeah i'm gonna scout okay i'll take a point now all right trust me you're gonna do it do you want the one two or the two seven you want the one in the middle but i won't take it i can't okay but i will take this one okay and i'm going to show also your turn yep i guess yep and then two three four nice you get these two points okay cool well i'm gonna look at that lincoln gets those points wow oh i don't like any of you um if you have a scouting show i highly recommend you play it i'll do it i suppose take this one i'll make it a nine and then i'll show wow let's grab those well i'm out oh okay that was your best of knives with this that's i had a bad hand like i had nothing going okay so these go away and don't count so three minus so that's gone one two three four five six seven eight nine okay i don't think i am an out of the positive side two or one two three four five i'm gonna just do it like that mixes that there's nine lincoln let's start with all the cheeky negative one boom get rekt get jealous okay this is great so i also have nine and the reason i like that is lincoln had to take three points away and he still scored nine like you don't have to go out first in this game i mean obviously you have the best chance of scoring well that way but that's nice so five okay you get a five right exactly you get five and two two that's nine you want to score it low in this game right all the scout points come back if you played your scout and show take it back nikki you are going to be the start player for this round oh no and here you shuffle these because you're better i'm i'm so good at shuffling but not with the sleeves right well the funny thing is you guys mix them all up they've been mixing them up anyway do we really need to shuffle to a certain extent that's also kind of why i shuffle them before i pick them up smooshy yeah you smoosh them do a quick casino wash yeah kind of okay when you get down to the bottom it's going to be one one one one i already made that mistake earlier all right i let the fates decide it for me hey that's as valid as anything else as i said what i'm doing is not necessarily in the rules i'm just doing it all right let's have it better i mean this one's better but i'm gonna flip okay let's look at this other side yeah last one i was like this is not great oh okay now this is better this is terrible yeah it's pretty bad how much i pay two victory points to rearrange your hand you're right is that the rule you got them to spare yeah the other way is better i guess i don't know that there is a good way well it's better i really don't yeah that was really cool that was my last round brother i'm wrong this is clearly a better way well is it all right weirder way i'm going this way yeah this is wow better than last round yeah is that really what i'm doing sure it's what i'm doing i'm committed to it [Laughter] it will be my undoing wow it's bad both directions i think but i wish i were the start player that's all i can say we got a huge straight making just straight back okay no problem all right nikki well that's the cool thing about this is you know how sometimes they because the way the cards come out yeah you have straights they can teach you because the cards have both directions it's not not as likely to be to have these crazy straights if everybody else has a straight type of a thing right here and you can you can move your cards around too so yeah which you can't do here you ready yeah you ready ready all right oh that's an eight though that's that's a pretty strong bold eight there is it bold it's not a one i started the last one with a one wow this is terrible i really i think the other hand the other direction was better i don't know um my both directions were not too pretty i'm i've been willing to let you flip for some real-life money uh hey this one i'll just take that right off the bat look at that thank you you showing no no nothing wrong with that i like that move all right so i'm gonna start i'll start high i'm 10. very much that's a good number last let me do what i want it's not a one all right i can play in pair six since then but i didn't want to yet that's fair i'm glad just for the record all right take a point okay are you going to play his show as well or just go no just scout okay just scout that's the boy scouts okay well i guess i'll keep doing this oh no he's playing oh the worst that's great what are my options five six nine five six nine that's terrible you're points nope i can't do it ah this is bad lose points this round which is better than last round so that's good i can do you might still go up first yeah i know it's like i was like all right so i want that here my hand's not great even though that looks good it looks intimidating but let's take a point i'm and are you going to show no okay link in video 6'5 done says lincoln 3 4 5. boo on you okay take care i'm gonna do this are you just counting and choking yeah i'm gonna show okay you throw it in the middle basically technically um that's an eight five and a eight four those are really unhelpful but well okay wow here take a card i'm gonna scout and show because now i'm getting worried oh do something that helps me i don't think that helps you but it's beatable and i use my scouting show sorry [Music] two through four or eight or ten if you want a scout and show why are those cards in the way that is the way the game works unfortunately seems not so good to be taking cards right now but i will take this one so take a point for yourself if you can scout and show you should uh that i can do with taking of that so scout and show okay technically throw it in so it goes there there you go all right there's two points for you huh it doesn't help me let's see maybe it can it's good because you'll get points from the players yeah i'm gonna scout and show up because i have to get some of this out of my hand it isn't gonna be enough but no it is not take those still it's a five-point swing here's the thing we can't scout and show right yeah so if he can't beat that he's than a four a seven higher than a seven uh-oh danger robinson dangerous one card one card where are you sorry i have to scout i'll take uh i mean i should take that six to make it easier for nikki to beat but this is the one i need done so this is a six and a five six five yep two card higher straight any pair any three or more card hand uh yeah i can do it yeah all right sevens here you go collect love oh here comes lincoln no i wish because i already showed um oh i have to scout i think oh is there anything he's got one card left if it's lower than a seven we're okay otherwise he's coming back with a vengeance well i have to do better if you can't play then just take any card so i'll take this one okay yeah here's a point for you wow that's stupid i was like no i was like i was like editing lauren okay so higher than any higher three of a kind or four card or more straight yeah dying it can i make that work if i buy one well you can't scout and show but you might as well try it this could be one of those games where nobody goes out that would be weird eventually someone will these are terrible i know dave mine's not great the only reason i got to three fours was i picked up two fours on my last two skips dave take a point all right four ten now just a pair of fours oh we had it no he didn't have it he needed a pair of force oh i don't like that i don't like that i really don't like that i really don't like it what are you taking no not that one oh wait that's a 2-7 i gotta oh wait i can't scout and show anyway uh we've all scouted and showed yeah it's just straight scouting at this point i'll take this this one oh yeah all right make it so you just have to beat a three if you don't the round's over so yes oh and your hand counts against you what can i get more out of i want more out of my hand i can't do it more out of life one two well that sucked uh wow do you have a one two yes oh um oh wow that's amazing none of those will work no none of those are a three that's the problem right oh wow yeah well i'm going to get stuck so here you go p i will take wow this is like the most scouting ever no this is fantastic i'll take that one all right you must be able to beat a one nope no um i have three ones um i'm trying to decide what to do obviously i'm trying to fight what is actually a smart thing to do here because it's hard when you get down to one card it can get hard to play that one card yeah you kind of want to be able to end on like a well straight or something get get the most cards you can out of your hand yeah this will be a plus you barely have any minuses there's definitely the other thing is you don't want to have you if you play something high enough maybe i can't play yeah and that's because it turns out it didn't matter but yeah that's it it can get tough and get low into yeah it doesn't matter there's only one card to you unless she beats it right that's a good point you're getting out your 1-2 regardless i guess i have to buy something i don't want to it's going to count against me it might not you might get another turn the way this game's going get another decision lincoln's not going out no i don't take a point okay you saw what i bought yeah i'll do those two yeah big old pair of twos pair twos carrot twos scout no no which one of these is this this is so exciting okay i'm going to play this 10. all right nikki you have to be to 10. if you have a three card hand you should play it did you build a three card in last time no no i didn't take that all right this could this could work take a put we're gonna run out of scout even my last two cards were not playable at least i had a straight 10 11 12 13. how much like 13 13 yeah yeah he only got 12 you still beat me that went out well you guys kept buying for me okay i got nine nine times there's ten can you give me one give it five oh yeah i need to buy another card i know it truly was a bad hand for everybody yeah it's all but then i got down to like a pretty disjointed hand and i couldn't get rid of it and then that that was just like oh man i just can't get rid of this hand well i was definitely hoping when you had low numbers to just be able to play a pair yeah right just see anything right like those to their positive side rough so you early on played a three card straight like on your second or first play and i went oh man we're in trouble because you know that usually indicates it's very strong it was just i didn't want to buy anything it makes sense we all had the same problem we all had like one or two really good chunks in our hand and then the rest was just garbage yeah how it goes i needed a i could not believe it was a one and a two though um like if she just played any like high card it would have been great that's true i needed a three out of you i'd have scouted a three from you and then by the time you put a three down i had abandoned that yeah right you're like you had a whole different hand at that point yeah i guessed here this is ten right yeah that one two came from me like pulling two you know i mean it was just the worst yeah and it was the other cards i decided to go against were a bunch of low numbers right and i and it would have been some sort of straights maybe but you know i mean it was like it felt like it was a little better yeah it could get real tough yeah that was me the first round i was running 20 link i was like this uh there's a 20. there are 11. positive though the ones are over here oh sorry don't worry about it it's not a big deal all right oh man that was great that was a good hand for you nick you know weird that was good we were the best oh yeah that's why i was like at least i'm going to make up some ground here but i thought for sure you had a better hand there too like because it would seem like you were well that's the pessimism part you look at how bad your hand is and then of course your brain thinks well everybody's hand's gotta be better than mine well there's a lot of times where like someone would have like like a two card straight but it was like one number higher or the same number that i had so i was like darn i can't quite beat these things or like i put out a someone put up here you had a pair of sevens and i also had a pair of seven so i was like well if this comes back around to me or whatever it's like there's there's certain situations like that right i couldn't quite get my stuff played even though i actually had a pretty decent hand to start off with well almost nothing i play is ever going to come back around yeah that's true maybe it might have been leaking but there was a couple times there where like i was like i can't all right right to beat this this is very close to being too but i couldn't so i had got down to a low amount of cards early and then couldn't get them out of my hand wow once again okay um let's see what the other side looks like alert alert this is a foot it's all bad whoa you know what i hate is interleaved pairs that just drives me up the wall like six two six two six two there's like nothing you can do about it okay so dave's got six two i don't i use different numbers just to fool you that's good to know okay cool uh that's even worse yep it's gotta be this side it's gotta be this side one more shot and i do not like it but that's what it is turning it is not gonna help sometimes it does this one's not i don't think okay will that work it's hardly any better yep they feel like they're about the same that might have been the most scout tokens i've ever seen around we almost run out of them my hand could be good if i not scout tokens but the the dollars right you know the scout pool yeah you know what i mean when you are ready mr damer yeah yeah i'm looking at the horrors here trying to figure out what to do okay i'm gonna just start with that hey get a card over here a 10. oh wow it's all ready it's already happening it is something full something got hidden here this is gonna be bad two ones that's not the worst i'm going to scout and take this one done thank you you're welcome so i just have to beat a one yep can't say that i like it but yes well let's get these out of here right yeah sure yeah yeah that's kind of where i play my pair of wands the old ones to beat one's trick why not threes to be twos i'll take four something all right i'll now play since i scattered this nine from you last round i'll play it two nines done ugh you're the worst you are the worst thanks okay take a point i'll take it that way i don't know i assume you're not showing correct no no no just checking one eight nine eight right it's fine like two pairs of fours i was hoping to get them all together but this wasn't gonna happen it's dave nikki five six seven i gave you plenty of crap last round where i didn't have anything to play well there's the take this take a point are you gonna show uh what do i gotta beat now you only have to beat a five six you don't have to i'm just asking oh i certainly might want to save it okay i'm gonna wait lincoln will take that two fours okay two sixes i finally can't beat anybody here you go tickets not nice don't beat them i'll take this please hammer don't hurt them done six can you beat a six i don't know here's a chance to get stuff out of the way you can't do that it would be nice to get that out of the way but i can't beat it nick and i don't have a lot of cards terrible i know i'm trying to get rid of the most cards uh let's this will be a little bit more not not that i've got anything fantastic over here four cards nice much better than that that's excellent freeze okay so i probably get a point out of i that like that well i can handle this better now and show or just scout just scout okay nice oh morty another trip three twos huh yep it's good that trip three came right after you so because i wouldn't have beaten it so take one point that's one of your twos scouting show or just scout yeah okay whoops grabbing too many just oh nice there 99. okay well take another point by one card we'll beat that count chill um we're saving it no it's it's like you're saying so i'll do that it just depends it doesn't mean we're doesn't mean we're no on you at the very least you at least maybe also get a victory point out of it when when nick scouts right right and i will ask you scout show i'll do that nice tans what they finally got together right they were like they were in my hands from opposite corners they were made cross lovers destined to meet uh take a point okay yeah it's not a good number either way that goes um i'm gonna have to do it take a point dave okay nick you can play whatever you want i'm out all right all right yikes i got a total of four points wow i didn't actually play my scouting show as it turns out 10 11 for me i got 10. five so one five oh well that was all you got you said only one point yeah okay that's my that's how i've been oh doing the negative during the day i actually had one more point there uh i looked at it too you need that back you need that back you are the start player for this final round that's right here start player shuffle them up i got the buffalo i got faith in you hmm that was a bad hand too yeah that one actually mine was kind of disjointed i had a lot of pairs i was able to get the stuff in the middle out to bring them together so that's what dave did those tens yeah because at least it's strong yeah otherwise my last card was a two so i was like well this is gonna be hard to play but i was able to grab another two and then i had a pair and then luckily you had to scout so i was like well i can just play this gary on there and we're good to go any single one of us the round previous if you had if any of us had a good hand we would have cleaned up right because we all were just scouting at the end of scouting and playing like just garbage we all had just garbage hands i'm getting kind of winteny here where i want them in the order that they're if you you know you could if you truly went and you'd be playing your oldest card first that's all kinds of crazy it's kind of fun sometimes all right come on lucky hand i'm still shopping oh you've got to be all right that's fine that's fine okay wait that's not bad let's see what this side looks like this is weird oh no the other side's better for sure oh that's interesting both sides are sort of okay although i have those stupid interleaved pairs again sorta okay this is one of the situations if i can bring some stuff together this would be cool but i don't know if i'm gonna be able to do that yeah that's the problem isn't it okay am i gonna do this side yeah we'll go with this side i'm gonna do this side okay i'm i'm prepared the rounder end which that'll be that you could strategically want it okay this is getting annoying what okay i'm gonna scout and play there's that i'm gonna take this and i'm gonna play this six seven huh that's my scouting show sorry scout and show when i said skype that's a high three card too how many got left three no i don't like it i don't like it at all say right now it's gonna be hard to get these three cards played i think all right you better not be playing me they are weird in a bad order well i have to scout probably in show just to be able to get rid of this stuff um well no one's close to going out i mean man um okay i'll scout i'll show as well i'm gonna take this one and then i'll beat that with a pair a parrot oh whoa mister dave one eight nine and ten wow can you get back to him though you got a five of a kind there nikki yeah if you scout and show you only have to beat a four card hand so if you can do it you should that's gonna be i don't know what your hand is well you know that would have been maybe possible last sure of course right now because you've straight uh let's see there's fives and eights and a four can i make that do anything no because i have a card in the way that's how can i find the ends too yeah i'm gonna buy uh so here's what you should do yes you should buy if borrowing nothing else you should buy the highest card to make it easier for the other players to beat me if they can yep yeah because it gets back around to you that's it then i can make that did you scout and show already yes he did yeah yeah we can't beat him he might have oh no you only have two cardinals yeah enough right now well what would i take that would even be good um i'll take the four okay or six or whatever the heck it is it won't make any difference no can you beat it i don't think it matters which one i take no take this one all right these go away yep yep my hand goes away one two three four eight minus five i get three two i'm sorry i get two eight eight for nick two that was bad that was bad a clean thirty you have thirty 30 37 i thought i have uh 29. um negative two right negative two that's my hand yeah there you go [Music] oh that was a really i'm a very interesting round like i've never had that many low stuff you mean just weird groupings like i'm usually able to build something yes there was so little like stuff that i could actually um scout that was beneficial yeah i mean i didn't even half the time at least neither none of them really mattered right it was like well i mean i have to take something if i can't beat it but they weren't very good not even you know like nikki's restoration of stuff in the middle of not being able to take those yeah i didn't care most of the time it didn't matter they're like these are not what i have in my hands yeah um but i do love this game it's really awesome i think it's you know it's got a lot of little elements from other games that make it something like a little stronger for me i mean because i like crass career too but i love the flipping of the hand i agree i love all of that stuff i love i i want it to be more beneficial than it was in this game and it has been but um to me the building aspect is is the what really elevates it and um i think i had another point i was i think i was at 30. once again i'm not doing that the building aspect of it is what really makes it for me and the frustration of trying to figure out what you're dealt with right and and then that last round i just i was never building anything for most of the game really other than these pairs of kinds so i when i flipped it i'm like okay this is the side i had yes i had yeah if you build a strong straight you're out and you don't have to worry about the rest of your cards right right i had eight nine six seven ten i think or maybe whatever and i knew if i pulled out the six seven then i'd have this three card straight and ironically i could never play the six seven because you never played you never played anything that let me i mean you played a small card to start but i wanted to get rid of a single to do that and then for the rest of the game you never played like three four i had to end up playing the six seven with a scout and play by pulling an eight from him and playing it as a six seven eight right yeah but yeah there's you know the the only drag building has got risks you know you can build a really long straight and hope to do what i did which is to sort of end the game prematurely and get people negative cards but it's not playing a lot sure sometimes when you can play you have to sometimes not play if the card you need is up there right if it's close because five cards is hard to beat yeah right nikki will tell you how many times was it the middle card that you won yeah yeah often very often so often times even if someone plays i've seen people lead with like a four and i've seen someone scout it right away but having middling cards right and i had things broken up i had like two uh three a two four and two twos i'm like well should i try to take there was one time there was a two there and i thought i think in the end i ended up doing that just well you're better off getting a three right and maybe yeah but i mean there wasn't those numbers weren't necessarily available to me and most of the time they weren't there right when it was like when it was possible that that would happen i still had that two you know the four breaking up the two twos i think is what it was or the three twos you know there was two four two two right but two three i know i know and a pair of two i understand yeah i know yeah yeah it can be it's be tough we don't have it yeah and i messed up the first i the last hand i had right when you said you played the wrong card i did what did you do so i had two fours and then i had a two and then uh and then i had a four and then something else another four and i meant to play the two so then i would have three fours and i had another four that was separated by one card so it's like oh if i can get rid of that card they don't have a four of a kind which is really strong because you have to beat it with a five or a higher four of a kind which is very difficult if i play a better three card hand if you scout and show that's if you scout and show yeah but then i got rid of one of the fours and i was just like oh my gosh so then like my other four were separated by two cards and i was just like why did i play i just i guess i wasn't just wasn't paying attention i played the first card wrong i don't think it would have made that much of a difference in this particular round but i was just like oh i would have had a stronger hand if i had played the card i bet you still went out first that round right this last round not this one no the round prior yeah you played the wrong card no it was this last round when i when i started although i after the first round i had negative one point start with the wrong card yeah i literally i could have played anything and i just went like oh play this four and i was like nick you were trying to build something here but the first one had a negative one point and so i'm happy with how the i played the rest of the game but yeah i was that first round was rough couldn't do anything i actually really liked building stuff i mean i didn't really have i didn't feel it was productive most of the time it was a it was just be another pair or maybe if i was lucky three of a kind right but it was just it was not happening that was the that is the one thing i think is really fun about this game is to be able to go ah you know i can and it's okay i give that person a point and i didn't worry about it i actually gave nikki points most the time because it's like right when i did scout it was of course she's the one that just played but additionally also it was just like right it was a good one i'm like okay it's no big deal given nikki a point you know what'd you think nikki p um i i liked it i i like trick taking games i like the flipping of the hand like lincoln was saying um getting all the little points and paying people to take their cards to build something up is really interesting and different i think um the the being stuck with what you have i've always loved because i love bonanza in that sense of like you have to go in order of these beans well there is some flexibility though that you don't necessarily have in bonanza right you know that that well bonanza is an assembly line exactly your hand and bonanza disassembly line you're always dealing with the front and you get a preview of like what's coming up to you and help or really hurt you right right and this when you can if you buy something you can shuffle it in and you know that you got to use the other number that also yeah yeah that's right the whole other number thing is that's why it's galling when you have like four numbers to choose from and none of them are helpful yes exactly and i felt more often than not i was taking a card that really wasn't that beneficial yeah i mean if it makes a small straight or you know it's a two card pair or something like that that's fine but it was like you just wanted to convert it into something a little stronger every time and i i think my fir my best hands were like the first one maybe the very first round was like a pretty strong hand and i actually went out i didn't go out first and scored the same as you yeah yeah yeah and it's really not that more complicated than your average trick-taking game like trick taking games you can you can just add the extra rules on to that and it's it's okay yeah yeah and you don't have to be afraid of this one being so different it's exciting because you know this we really like oink games and this is the first time they've been nominated yeah and what's great is they so we played the original version of this game which it came out in like 2019 but i don't think i played until 2021 right oh no maybe he had 20 21. but it had you know different kinds of cards they're nice everything's nice has plastic cards um that scratch a little too easily we had a friend that um sleeved her plastic cards you're like oh that's kind of a bummer you have to sleep them but um this is more fun even though it's the lightest of themes i still appreciate the theme sure yeah it's colorful looking at the names and the cards are very colorful and they're very clear in terms of like which sides would like yeah they're well that's great so here's the biggest problem i was happy i remembered to keep saying scout end show yeah because scout and play was the other video yeah this is the bad thing about this game no car no values for lefties right like if you if you do your cards this way they're not there and and in the regular version the game doesn't do it either and it's kind of a disappointment right yeah why not just add it on both sides like correct yeah i'm not sure what maybe they make it small big or something like that just to keep it visually interesting but they are supposedly correcting it in the next version that's good yeah because it is a bummer like uh we're so we this was the jury nominated this in last a week we played it and they were talking about it and they had said every day at least a couple people say oh these cards are bad right because they're lefties and they fan their cards that specifically now i i mean i fan it like with my left hand so maybe they're doing it with their right hand right you know i i i don't it's so to me i'm like well i do with my left hand i fan either way like bonanza people would be like you're drawing from the wrong side i'm like no i fanned it this way i'm only drawing from this side instead of what people perceive as the front so interesting but it's a bummer i mean it's a bummer that both versions are the same i guess but it's exciting that oink i think oink got like the rice all over the place like english in germany right right just not in japan because this that's right yeah yeah it's very cool interesting were the i can't remember the original cards were also thinner right weren't they sort of more long and thinner no they're wider than these really yeah i think our copies in the house but um is that like wider as bridge size right probably yeah you know what they did also with this version that i like is if i remember correctly in the in the other version of it the alternate side number if i really quickly was slightly bigger than which is good for when people play cards to the table and you can see but it's sort of bad when it's in your hand i like how really obvious this is like these are just these or maybe i'm remembering it wrong but am i remembering it wrong i don't know i felt like these two numbers relative size were closer i like i i like how clear it is i think it's just done well the original game also you had to keep scoring a piece of paper so this is a very nice addition this is a nice little starburst and i love that they put the negatives on the back like that's very economical what is the one what does the one two look like it's just this but it has a little top uh no okay i think i had it this in this last hand in the yeah i was wondering what that was oh i see it's a little clearer i think in the original there it is the original game it actually says start yeah around yeah around there like a start player or start around it but that's always now that i know what it is but i was like what that is you don't i did that because it was sort of a throwback but you don't even need to do that in fact the the rules for this game state just pick someone's player pick a first player to be start player and then everyone start player once and then in parentheses it says if you want the player who gets the one two can be the start player so i mean they offer that as a matter yeah right i like doing it that way because then you don't have to worry about who's start playing right just and then it just goes clockwise yep everyone just his first player wants but the other thing that's nice about this game is it really can be crazy swingy you know i have played games of this where i had an absolutely amazing round and scored huge and i thought sweet and then like round two i had one of your rounds yeah all of a sudden i don't think i scored negative but i scored maybe like two points yeah while everybody else scored everything like all you need is one bad hand and for the person ahead of you to eve to either a not be able to play not play cards that are good for your hands right or b have a powerful enough hand so that they're always playing strong things yeah or even worse the both of those things yeah or just what nikki did she just played what i had she several times that's terrible right you want the player with a bad hand to be right before you yeah because that player is going to go well here's a six the player with the game they have the opportunity player with the good hand is going to be like pair threes next time it comes around there'll be pair of sevens and every time it comes around they're gonna be like two four five you're like what the yeah yeah where's where's the crappy one two that i can play on yeah it's got a pretty interesting two player variant i played um recently it's actually it actually works pretty i know some people i didn't really like it but i actually thought it was fine it's basically like normally you're playing it but every person if i remember he gets three scout tokens and whenever you scout you have to scout and show and if you can't scout and show to beat it you have to then scout again and i i believe it's either like you can go out by playing all your cards or if you uh run out of scout tokens that also ends it and so you have a certain amount of times that you can scout and actually i thought it worked pretty well on the two-player room because two-player with these kinds of games sometimes doesn't really work all that well that's kind of cool so you always have to scavenge yeah if i remember correctly if you scout you must count and jump yeah and then if you can't you have to scout again and then scout and then if you run out of scout tokens you i think it's the same thing where like you get the negatives in your hand and all that kind of stuff it was interesting yeah i like cool yeah i like why i love also i mean oink games we it's the one i mean i'm not really truly collecting all of them but i have a lot of them yeah but it's like they're all right here yeah right yeah you have no space why wouldn't you collect food and they're not even that expensive right no so they're not they're relatively affordable and they take up no space the biggest challenge is not all of them get released here in the states but they are now initially when we first started buying them because we i think we did deep sea adventure back in the day um that was one of the very first ones that we played that i really appreciated and i was like holy cow and and i think all of them we've played so far have been something interesting yes um what i said yes oh yeah for sure and they also the one thing i did buy that's a weird one is there they have a couple big box ones they have the one with the the guy with the gold coins which is thicker and then they had modern art they actually did in germany modern art and so it's a it's a link box it's a double wall it's almost a double white or is it double white oink oink i mean modern is just cards yeah well it has a little wood screens and a little wooden easel is what they they do but yeah it's that i really like their stuff and i think i love the design aesthetic the the the main guy who's one of them basically the main designer is also like the main artist and so i like their i like their the whole package it's all really neat looking stuff and it's only gotten better over time this one the cover we'll see it when we do the intro but is um is i like it it looks nice yeah really good colors and everything yeah it's very colorful i really dig it nikki actually picked colors to actually match yeah back side was sort of the gray but um it's cool yeah the first time so when i the first time i saw a deep sea adventure the actual game i had to laugh because the first time i ever played deep sea adventure was somebody made their own like right tricked out copy of it and it was in a plastic container like this with the little divers it had like yes yeah that was scott you know full yeah full-size divers a submarine that was about five to eight inches long yeah um and you know big thick whatever and i thought i knew it was a tricked out version of the game but it never occurred to me that game was gonna be i mean great at making sure the minis get painted and everything else but yeah it's really fun since we got close to it you are not uh you are not component limited if we could run out of scout tokens it's a real money yeah there you go you can use your own coins right it says it actually says in the rules to use your own design okay which means it obviously can happen yeah we got close remember it it plays fight you can play five players and that can be crazy right especially well you'd have a smaller hand of
