thank you [Music] Angelic engineer supplies [Music] thank you hey y'all tonight we're playing Wonderland's War Lincoln Nikki and Dave myself we're gonna play a little tea party time from one to five players uh published by Druid City games and skybound tabletop and designed by the brother eiseners uh and also Ian moss in art by Manny Tremblay so if you guys want some tea let's head to the table hey James hey Lincoln will you teach us Wonderland's War I'd love to all right welcome to a mad tea party okay okay um this game is broken up into two major phases so that's that's one thing to really start to wrap your head around right like we're gonna be at the Tea Party we're going to be going around collecting things and getting resources and adding supporters but then we're gonna go to war and that's going to be in the regions around Wonderland right there's some familiar places with sand and I can't say this correctly it's just not in my Southern dialect it's the tolki woods these people say tolki some people some people say tolgi I don't know I don't know I've never heard it said so I wouldn't know well there we go just go go with it with confidence okay right uh and so in this game we're going to be doing a lot of bag building all right so a lot of these different chips with the different abilities are going to come into our bag we're going to be using those in the war to increase our strength on the strength track here to try to out maneuver everybody else at the table uh this is a heavy conflict game so hope you like a little but in that first phase is we're going around the Tea Party it has a very rondale kind of vibe to it so you're going to be choosing you can go as far as you want and get whatever you want but as soon as you hit the head of the table you're going to have to roll the madness die and that's going to give you some shards of Madness that are have negative effects you do not want those so generally that's what's happening in the two phases and we're gonna play for three rounds total and then at the end of three rounds we're gonna see who has the most points obviously there's a little bit more going on than that but I just wanted to give you the overview the top down okay all right so now we can dive in let's talk about phase one which will be the tea party so in the first round we're gonna have uh these cards and you want to give those a nice little shuffle all of these places at the table are going to be available for you to take um in a four player game uh we'll have 12 cards I believe it is and you just put a little reminder token here if you're playing with less than five or four players [Music] if you want to turn those around yep thank you all right so oh these are neat little Contraptions I like these things nice uh and so what we're going to be doing is at the head of the table whoever goes first you'll go as far as you want around the table and you'll choose the card that you want um so if I if Mad Hatter came here they would take this card and they'll get all the stuff that's on the card uh so if you want to take a look at this sweet card here this is going to tell you how many supporters that you get to put out into one into a single region unless you are the Red Queen she has a special power but we'll get the special powers in a minute if it shows The Shard die here in the top right hand corner you're going to have to roll The Shard die because this is a really powerful card and you're taking a little bit of Madness and then if there are items in here you're going to get those so in this case this is a forged symbol so you get to add a forged token to your back and this is a sort and this would increase your leader string okay so that would be what this card would reward whoever gets that one but again you can go as far to anything that suits your fancy or your strategy what you've got going on but like I said when you get back to here you're going to roll this madness die and then it also has a benefit so you're going to be taking on some Madness but any empty slots that doesn't have a leader occupying that area you're going to get to refill with new cards so that's how you're going to get more options uh so you just have to balance that like how many shards am I going to be taking versus what are my options is there anything out there that I do or don't want so let's just go over um I've covered a couple things but you'll see let's make sure there's not any icons that don't look wonky to you so any of these that are out here in our companions supporters they have a different name allies there it is there's a lot of different things there our allies here are creatures Fred Rooks roses flamingos card soldiers and then lastly are the forge tokens now we are playing with side a there are four different sides to these so you can Shuffle those out you can even mix and match them if you want to but they are not play tested mix and match so play at your own risk that way okay I'm sure they'll work they're just not balanced at all so let me know if you get something crazy that happens uh we can talk about what these do real quick so the creatures you've got every chip except Forge has a weak and a strong that'll be you'll see the Dots here underneath the numbers uh the creatures uh when this chip is exhausted return it to the supply and gain the other value creature chip in your from your exhaustive pool so essentially you're going to start with ones after you use it it's going to come to your exhaust when it's time to go back in it'll turn into a five neat nice but then vice versa once you've used the five it goes backpack they see salt your red Rook they're just strong cannot be affected by other chip abilities but their base powers are three and six so you can't boost them you can't augment them at all they're just big old chunks of power roses you gain one VP at the end of battle or you gain 2v or and you gain two VP when you forge this chip so if they're in your active chips then you're going to get a VP and then if you choose to use them to forge again we'll talk about forging in a minute you'll get more VP so there's the nice way to get extra VP flamingos you're going to double the strength of the next chip you place on your active track now on top of our player boards you'll see this active chip track so that'll make kind of tracking those things a little easier now what stinks is if you get a flamingo and then you pull that red Rook because they can't be augmented by other things so you kind of waste it so you have to when you're building your bag you have to think about these things okay then you got card soldiers when played uh returned one exhausted chip to your bag or double the chip strength so uh as as we go through the different regions in battle our chips from that battle are going to become exhausted so the colored soldiers are nice because you've got a really powerful chip down there that you'd like to get back into your bag you can pull those out and then you can kind of refresh your bag outside of the normal refreshing mechanic and then lastly you've got Forge and so after battle you may Forge one active chip so however many of those that you have up here you'll be able to take any chip from your active row and then Forge them down here onto your player board including the forge chip right including the forge chip yeah that's cool so what's cool is down here you'll see whichever row you decide to forge you'll start on the leftmost side and you'll place that anytime you cover um when you forge you get that item so on this top row this is how you can discard some extra Madness chips oh yeah this is probably better to share you can discard some Madness shards on the second row you're gonna it's a great way to increase your leader strength uh down here this is how you get extra supporters see over here on our boards we have uh these supporters all stacked up and then lastly this is how you increase the value of your castles that are out on the board so anytime you win battles again we'll get to that in a minute uh you'll get to put castles out and those can be there they have a base VP of three at the end of the game but you can increase that and then you'll see on our player boards over here on the table that if you complete a whole row you'll unlock more of your specialty chips for your character to put into your bag and there are a couple spots even here that once you've done both you hit that connector you get that additive bonus a little bit almost like a rolling round right oh I see uh if they're connected and you cover them both you get the thing in the middle as well okay so that's forging and something that's really important to remember and I try to bring a lot of attention to this when I'm explaining for someone who hasn't played before only get to forge if you don't bust if you bust everything from your active chip automatically goes down to your exhausted and you don't get to do any of the fun stuff so when you're in battle and you're like I only have one supporter left I could bust and there's a lot of things that you want to do Post battle you should take that into consideration okay well there might be some tears there could be some tears okay uh and so that's going to be our typical we're gonna go around until we've all gotten four cards unless you're the Mad Hatter and you've unlocked his it's I believe it's always Teton yes then he could take a fifth and he doesn't go into any of the regions uh at the end of the tea party we will assess who has the most Madness Whoever has the most madness has to take we're all going to get one each time the tea party ends we're all going to get one of these to add to our bag but whoever has the most Madness the most Madness shorts is gonna have to take an extra one okay now consolation prize they do lose half of those shards so their their amount of Madness is reduced okay and or transformed into one of these however you want to look at that um so you're gonna again it's a little bit of a balance of how Much Madness do I want to have and you can look around the board and go oh Lincoln's got seven I've only got five I don't really want to have to take an extra Madness chip so maybe I don't want to go to the head of the table and roll that Madness though but there is a one uh result on three sides so 50 chance of only getting one but then there's uh two twos and a three so okay yeah you're coming through yeah if the dice hate you that's your friend but mathematically yeah some of the other icons you're going to care about on these cards ah yes Quest cards so our Quest cards over here uh and this is a great time to explain quests so on our Quest cards it's fancy I like this so uh you've got feats and you've got objectives so it's a two a two-part uh Quest Card the top part is giving you something that you can do in battle and it'll tell you where it wants you to have this happen so this card call the clams in a battle with exactly two or six Active chips in tolki woods so if you're here if you're in battle and you have exactly two or six Active chips in your active row and you choose to stop then you will complete this feat and you'll be able to place it down and they'll be worth three VP at the end of the game so the bottom half of the card you're going to notice is a is a in-game objective so this is typically things that you're going to be building toward during the tea party so during the fight up here usually during the tea party down here uh so three or more different forged Allied chips so on our player boards if we can get three different types of chips on the forge we will complete that objective in the case that you get both of these done you'll get a bonus 3bp and you'll see that here feet plus objective it gets a bonus so three plus three plus three so one Quest Card could be worth nine points wow when I forged ships down here are then those permanently on my board for the rest of the game they are and I never use them again they don't go back in your bag great it's also a great way to to thin the deck get rid of stuff to get rid of things out of your bag the ones the little wonky ones that you don't like anymore okay and you're really trying to cultivate that bag to be a Powerhouse okay the challenge I think is the uh is the like having it happen where you have either two or six chips I mean that it's all it doesn't always work out two should be easy but what do you do when you get into five the problem is if you think you're gonna win right you're like well do I care about winning or do I care about completing this uh this card well you have three terms to make that Quest right sure you do you do but if you get multiple quests in your hand now you've got multiple things you're like okay well this one's what's in and this one's over here at the meadow living flowers which one do I write there's a there's a good bit to consider okay um that was just get really short that is remove a Shard from your board um here the Wonder Landing cars let's talk about those obviously if you see a slash you're going to choose one or the other you don't get both okay if no slash then you get all of it but the wonderlandians up here at the top of the deck you'll see we've got three for the market that is that are currently set out there are two different types you're either going to have a figure in our case we we're laying those flat for a camera but that would normally be on the standee and you'd get to send them out to a region or you're going to get uh chips that will go into your bag and they have a power as you can see here we've got the caterpillar so he for the first draw each player draws two chips you choose one that they play and one they have to return their bag so the cat the caterpillar he can be like you know draw two and oh oh you've got a Madness chip I want you to play that one okay nice okay the walrus is monocle when played you may permanently discard this chip if you do search your bag for any chip and play it nice I mean it but it's a zero power so if you're really using it to right get exactly what you want wow search your bag though that's pretty exciting yeah and then the Griffin at the start of the battle move up to two of your supporters from another region to the Griffins region so he can call in support he can swoop in pick people up and then any of the the figures they have a power that they'll give you a essentially a starting power so if the Griffin will say here in the red keep and he was under my control then before we even draw chips I would already be in a two battle strength so your leaders and your wonderlands can give you almost a starting amount of power before you even get going okay but to win you have to at least pull one chip from your bag that has to happen Okay can't just be there so you could have say one supporter or just one leader there but you do have to at least risk a little bit in battle to be okay okay so that's one of the landings and uh anytime that we take one of those they'll be instantly replaced from the deck and then we'll bring in uh whatever the piece and at the end of each round we'll wipe the three that's there uh bring out three new ones and they'll get shuffled back in so there's always a fresh market of uh okay Landings to recruit to your team Wild One wild one that that's exactly right a wild of uh of a weak a weak chip so could it be the three so it could be the three absolutely okay that's essentially look at it as the pill the guy's there oh I see right one got it yep exactly okay uh the other one to explain would be this corrupted card uh the corrupted card is just saying uh it's got a lot of Madness in it you're gonna get the top thing but if you want the bottom thing you've got to roll the dice okay uh and there'll be some other symbols that will definitely come out but we'll just cover those you can just be like James what is that in a long time is it because there's as we get into round two and round three they really ramp up in power and there's some really cool stuff in there okay so we'll just we'll dive into those as you see them so at the end after we've all gotten four cards or Mad Hatter's got his fifth uh in player order we will send our leaders out into the one of the regions that we want them to go their leader strength will be applied when we start battle so if you ramp your Leader's strength all the way up to six you can start with a power of six on the battle track they also count as um essentially supporters when we are battling so let's it's probably a good time to talk about that let's go let's go to our home here okay um and then let's pretend that I have two supporters uh they can say that me and you are fighting here fighting you just have that and let's say grab the Griffin let's say you've got the Griffin okay so here we've got the three different types of units that can be into a fight we've got a leader we've got a wonderlandian and we've got supporters so essentially right now it's three to three we're gonna go one at a time pulling our chips out and revealing them if we have Madness that we can't block we have to take then we lose a supporter ah so and as soon as you are out of support in an area you have you've busted you are no longer in the fight you've been wiped out so as we pull those we're either going to keep adding to our strength or we'll lose support and now you can choose however you want to kind of pull these back but typically it's best to probably leave your leader in last because they have you know or an ability from a wonderlandian so these are going to come off come off and let's say I'm just I'm just trouncing you here all right um and you get completely wiped out then I would win by default but in the case that we're still fighting out or you decide that you want to stop because this is as you go in you can you pull out and you pull out nothing oh you're saying I'm happy with my let's say I'm at 11. I'm happy with my level strength but you're at eight you can still keep pulling chips out to see if you can surpass me but as soon as you pass me then you have to stop nobody wants to sit here and watch you pull chips out of your back wow uh you've already won the best so she has to stop even if one more chip would get her a quest yes okay exactly okay but that's until she's in the lead right I understand okay yes they're they're again more tears about the quest like I really wanted to be able to pull that sixth chip out you made me stop at five well Dennis the brakes okay but that's generally how this that's going to work with the three different types and uh the leaders and the wonderlandians so as you'll see here on our battle track um there is an end of 25 so the first person to 25 strength we won't pull chips forever uh whoever gets there first will win um but anytime you want to stop you're welcome to stop again you may have a quest but you'll also see there's some Forge symbols on the track if you end the battle and don't bust uh on a forged track then that's an extra Forge ability that you're gonna get nice from your active but you have to be on that space specifically at the end of the battle yes okay great so again you're gonna like if you're on that you know you're here and you're like do I want to keep going and all right Lincoln Lincoln I think Lincoln's going to keep going he really wants to win this area there's a lot of little mental games that are happening in your head as you're trying to make your decision even on if you want to pull and if you've passed it boy you've got a long way to go if you can even keep pulling chips right so that's right and then if you reach 25 no forging so can't forge and win the battle Yeah there's that one last uh tease yeah and so that's how that'll work and if there's ever any ties um what you know what if you win a region let's talk about what you get each round round one two and three their reward values are here in each of the different regions and these are randomized each game so if we're in the first round if you win red keep you'd win four points if you're second place you'll win half of whatever the current rounds total is So I would win two points but if you win you get the points and you get to place a castle in that region and castles give you a starting strength of two in future battles there okay and they're also worth 3vp at the end of the game unless you upgrade them and they could be worth four five or six depending on how much of the forging you get done so if you're doing heavy battle uh strategy you want to win a lot of battles you want to get all your castles out then you probably want to forge that bottom track right and make those castles worth as much as they could possibly be but they're a nice way to also get starting strength uh if we were to tie Dave and I were to fight here later and we were to we were to tie uh for first place then we have to choose do I want the four points or do I want to put out a castle we each get that choice though okay yeah and you can't have more than one Castle in a region and you cannot have more than one Castle okay so you got you gotta diversify your portfolio sure sure you know makes sense no stacking up there's no stacking up for uh castles in in the red Queens red keeps she's so you won't have that okay what makes you think I was trying to do that no oh you're playing oh the Red Queen She's So Mean um Wagers so if you're not in a battle you've got your wager cards here so what you're able to do instead of sitting around being bored while other people duke it out you get to play a little uh gambling game and you're gonna choose who you think is going to be the winner so you're going to assess oh okay Lincoln and Nicki are fighting in the living Meadow uh Nikki's got seven supporters Lincoln's only got two so I feel like she's gonna win so I'm gonna pick you know uh Cheshire Cat you just put that face down and if you're right then you get a level one or a level one chip at the end if you're wrong though you get a shark yeah okay and that's optional wig it is 100 optional okay but it is also a very very good way if some of your quest cards are going to have things like you need seven or more uh red rook and flamingos to complete this so if you just want to fill up your bag so it's a great way to work toward a lot of those things that you need in your quest we'll forward chips count for that yes so just at the end of the game you just look at all your chips exactly okay exactly forged exhausted in the bag doesn't matter but wagering is a lot of fun uh and it keeps you involved and makes it fun for weight different ways that you can be involved when you're not actually fighting and you can also like cheer on your teammate area that's right you can also be frustrated when they when they drop out early yeah so Nikki had seven there but she only really wanted to get those six chips out to complete a quest and you're like why did you quit you could have crushed Lincoln yep so there's it's not always perfect science on uh on the math of course let's talk about Madness chips and busting okay so anytime you pull those Madness chips like I was giving in the example with me and Nikki over here you're going to lose a supporter unless you want to use your Shield you can use your Shield it'll break your Shield flip it over and then you'll put that Madness chip back into your bag and on the next turn you just get to draw again so essentially it puts a Timeout on that one Pole right but it does go back into the bag so you know just Shuffle it really good right come yeah or you'll be like me and you're like the only thing I don't need to pull out of this bag is the double madness don't pull the double back right and you pull it twice in a row like there's 15 chips in this bag how is that um so anytime that happens then you'll also Place Madness chips never go on the active chip row they go here on our Madness chip row okay so as this fills up uh when we have a fourth Madness chip that's when we get to refresh our bag now this is very also again very important depending on where we're at in the battle let's say uh our starting battle marker here is in red keep and you get your fourth Madness on the Second Battle but you've got more battles that you wanna that you're currently lined up to be in you only get to refresh your Madness chips and everything that's exhausted if you have stuff that's currently that you're a lot of good chips up here in your active row they don't get refreshed so you want to time it if you can best you can um when you've got a lot of all of your good stuff's down here and you're exhausted so you get it back into your bag for future battles but maybe you're toward the end of the round and you don't care because at the end of the war phase everything goes back into our bag for the next round the entire face yes the entire phase so if I'm at a battle here and I pull say three or four chips and I stop and I have a second battle coming up these chips that were inactive phase go to the exhaust exactly and they stay there exactly they don't go back in my bag no not until you got bust on essentially the madness makes you refresh your bag okay so there's a little bit of timing there that you're going to be you're going to try to manipulate it right to your advantage a very important question is how do I refresh my shield because I'm going to want that ability sure uh you anytime you actually bust in a battle after that you'll get to refresh your Shield but then also later on in rounds two and three there'll be some cards that will allow you to refresh your Shield if you need to cool and I'm sorry to ask this busting in a battle means so essentially you've lost all your supporters you've lost all your supporters okay yep so let's you get so if you if you quit in the middle of a battle you don't and your Shield is broken it stays broken yeah absolutely okay yeah Shields are hard to get back so like this is a this is very powerful to be able to put that back into your bag sure but it's not easy you're not going to get a ton of that it makes sense but that's a great question and all those supporters from the previous round they stay in that region so maybe you want you you in round one you just want to try to complete a quest there you're not really trying to win the battle right but that's good because if I can leave two or three supporters here I don't have to re-deploy them in the next rounds I can leave them there and I'll automatically be in that battle but you have to draw at least one chip you do you do have to at least draw one if you don't draw a chip then you don't participate but your supporters still stay there correct well if you're in the battle Yeah again you have to at least no matter what so if I'm in the battle I'm required to judge it at least one okay great then from there got it whatever and worst worst case scenario we all start with a double Madness chip right so the worst case if you've got at least more than two your worst case scenario would be the too I I've definitely had that happen there's a double Madness chip only take up one space it does okay it does and there's again there's only one of them in your bag and you you can never remove that chip from your bag there are some symbols that we'll see on cards later on that will allow us to remove Madness from our bag but it's only these singles it never the double okay there's always the threat okay going wonky explain these Powers sure are they one time only do I get them back how do those work it's a great question so um I don't see any cards out here that's going to allow us to do it yet but there's a symbol and as it comes up maybe I'll just find it for us so we can see it couldn't there we go so here you'll see this upgrade symbol with from Manny's beautiful art looks like there's a rabbit in there pretty cool oh that's that Arrow that's here in here yes exactly okay that would have been easier to show you that's okay but you'll see here you've got four every character has four different abilities and you'll see the top two pertain to your unique artifact chips which are these threes that are like very important to you you've got the teacup the battle ax Cheshire smile and then my claw and no there's no Alice in the game today sorry Alice she goes backwards though that's cool yeah her uh every every character has a tea party ability that'll be right here at the top and then these abilities that typically kind of mix and match mostly in the battle phase so in my case I've got a fearsome Maw at the start of my turn on the t-phase if there are no poison ships in Play Place one on any card if another player takes that card they gain the poison so I have poison ships that act like Madness and I'm gonna be putting those into your bags so I'm gonna try to seed your bag with bad stuff okay he's a Jabberwocky look at that guy he's not happy you brought him out of his his uh his wooded area um so and everybody has that the uh if you want to go over yours real quick you want to read them out loud that'd probably be good sure once per tea party I can refill unoccupied tease party spaces and take any card without moving it's very good well I am the Mad Hatter it is your tea party uh Red Queen what you got I am the Red Army I'm uh May Place supporters in into multiple regions so it's not just one region one America exactly so typically like if you were if you were to take this card and you're gonna Place three supporters you have to pick a single region to place all three of those supporters okay not the Red Queen she can split those up however she wants to okay nice um I am during a tea party when you roll a two or a three on The Shard die you may give one Shard to any other player sharing a Madness he likes to Dole it out nice but on your player boards here you're going to have these four distinct powers and again these two are really tied to chip pulls from your artifacts and the bottom two are more like passive powers and so you got to decide how you kind of want to build out your Synergy um you may want to say I'm going to unlock all four of those they all sound awesome or just this one and this one will kind of lean into the strategy that I'm going for uh I don't think we need to read all those that might take a little bit but as you maybe as you activate those just read them to the everybody watching at home okay yep but I have these four am I only gonna use them once for the entire game no that's it is unlocking uh essentially ongoing Powers so like in the case of I'll just read you one of mine uh my Maxim foe when played claw chips now gain two strength if you are not in the lead in the battle track so let's go to augment every time I pull a claw out of my bag in your case you've got piping hot so your T your teacup is going to get Juiced up okay and then is this to remind me I've used it or not used let's remind you that it is now unlocked so you'll just if as you unlock these you'll just remove those and now it's it is active all of your chips no matter if they're an active or exhausted we'll go back into your bag at the end we will um return the strength trackers back down we'll refresh our wonderlandians uh and then we'll we'll clean up any of the cards put out the next phases cards and return all of our leaders back to the Tea Party and then we'll do another round of tea party and do this three times so round one round two round three at the end of round three we'll count up our let's talk about in-game scoring so any obviously any points that you've accumulated during the game um we'll then uh take a account of our all of the castles that are out on the board that you've put out and then how much they're worth and then I have that to your score and then we will see how many quests that you have completed so again if you've got question in hand this is something that can trip people up sometimes when you complete a feat you have to announce that to the table right otherwise we would have to take your word for it right so Dave could be like uh in the battle with a faction or artifact shipped as my final active chip in tilty woods I just did that so they don't know come down it's that's done this is still active you can still you're still working toward this you're always working toward the in-game objectives of cards of quest cards that you have in hand okay um so you know it it being in your hand doesn't matter uh it only matters for the top half of claiming in battle hey I did this thing and then the objectives will put those scores together and see how many you have points from those and that'll add to it and then lastly any Madness shards that you have left over minus one point so it again it's a it's a it's a give or take you know if you have the most sometimes you're like hmm I have eight Lincoln has nine if I was to get to ten sure I've got to take an extra Madness chip but I'm going to lose half of those so that's essentially like gaining Five Points that's pretty good but just remember that when you keep pulling those Madness chips out of your bag during battle people tend to forget that they're like oh there's just too many Madness chips you you wove your path okay foreign [Music] okay so to get started what we need to do is I'm gonna now that you kind of have a general idea of what's Happening everybody's going to get two Quest cards okay and you're gonna choose one to keep and the other will be discarded okay so what's great about these Quest cards especially for the first time we play Dave is that bottom end objective kind of gives you something sure to start working toward right from the beginning and a place that you might want to go have a battle in maybe you can complete a quest very early wow oh and something that we need to do to start the game also is so uh the starting battle marker here is in red keep we roll the dice and you see how far it moves so one two three so our first battle when we get to the battle phase we'll start in pool of tears and go clockwise okay so battle one will be pool tears and then we'll go clockwise till we get to the meadow of living flowers okay okay who is the last person who had had tea you mean the most recent person sure I don't know I had coffee uh probably Nikki oh yeah because you have iced tea all the time yeah I did have tea yesterday then you're more racist I didn't want to be first I have to take three shards all right three shorts for the first player two shards two shards one Shard so you get started with a little bit the madness uh all right I think we're ready to go sure all right Off to the Races so I will go first and I can go as far as I want let's see I think from the beginning we want to be really really rude let's go here rude I'm gonna take two um number threes two number threes see this bag and then I will also put out two supporters into a region uh-huh right here yep yeah yeah and these will go in my bag straight away if I don't dump the bag upside down way to go and unfortunately though I have to roll uh probably looked at that more closely yeah okay a few shards oh I have the five shards depends on your leader strength so we all started with one I see the leader strength is whatever we got it yeah so you can you can get real buff so if you're going to take that ability you probably don't want to spend a lot of energy increasing your leader strength because you're never going to put them out there anyway because you have the extra card just depends on how you want to build the case this is what I was talking about earlier like a lot of good stuff would not go back in the bag because it's in the active so I needed to end a battle with exactly two or six Active chips Nikki you get a castle so mad did you get a castle I'm mad she's mad together I didn't get this that's fine you're going to be three four oh you get the 50 Mark six seven eight Lincoln gets four though plus fifty three four cool and that's it I I actually I I uh I get to forge which I need to do and for the record I would have bet on you Lincoln and lost that that was a fun one two of those yeah that's nice okay so first up let's do our castles look at this oh I need to forge that's amazing two points wait a minute yeah I got three I mean that was the goal I was trying to that was before wait this one for another two oh that's right these aren't filled yet yeah yeah I'm looking at the guys thinking another four there but I just couldn't do it you kind of can't I've put a lot of effort into forging too and it was only so successful okay I lost nine points nice but you got eight so I see what you're saying so let's uh calculate your castles so in my case I have uh three castles out for Four Points each so 12 12 points you're going around the corner yes around my car I'm so proud of you it might get another one Nikki has three castles at what Nikki Six nice eighteen eighteen so she's at twenty and then I have five at six so that's Thirty yeah so put him at one two plus Twenty Eight put him at 28 and a thing underneath who knows um castles great so now we're going to add up our VP so now you can do your calculations from your quest cards okay you have the completed well I get I've got all three of all three aspects of mine well all two aspects of each of them done so it was nine points per card yeah three four jellies chips are the same type and then three Forge tracks that was so I have no wonder that makes sense all right Lincoln gets 18. he'll figure it out okay where'd you get Nick P one I got um three three and then the three nine yeah so nine add nine there go to uh 29. what about the other one I have to dig through my bag for this one yeah me too so I get three for the top half um and then I get it's seven or more card soldiers of either one of either one it's the um cut these gray guys or the the Rooks Okay so do you have any of them their Forge though you do have one that you have two you have several that are forged I'm gonna I'm gonna pull them so there's one two three four five hey I'm okay that's a good deal that's not embarrassing 27 30. I have 30. okay so that takes me to 37 nice that's good yep I didn't have it I thought I had a one uh Rook oh he took it off I guess so dang it could have sworn I had a rook your face is there yeah I need the thing anymore yeah no I don't have it I only have five I thought I had a rook so you get three yeah okay is there anything you left in your bag maybe maybe in the corner just check it yeah I know double check it double check double check it okay dang it and then we lose points oh that's right so I lose three six seven eight I lose eight take me back hey I had 50. back to 40. this isn't like that anymore and does Nikki have any shards no nice okay well there it is what is it you came in second I meant uh 93 and you're at 82 30 82. and I'm at 80 79 79 99. so now there's there's the asterisk that we discovered right that that's minus six right no because it changes it you can't do that right it also adds two points to all battles and oh that's true it's my own fault it's not a big deal and I don't think it would I don't think it would have changed anything right I think you were well I mean I got a castle there quicker than I thought right you were kind of crazy you can see I was trying to get them all on the board I I think that that's a pretty I mean to get 30 points at the end of the game is pretty pretty fast I almost got 30 points I got 30 points in cards yeah it's crazy you know it's fun too to see I got this exactly what I needed yep which was I needed seven and seven in those combos I think I've seen uh in the mid 50s somebody cashing in quests at the end of a game so I mean they're depending on what you lean into you know yeah quests are great I I had a heck of a time I mean I finished them but it took all of my effort for the first one and I didn't get it till I finished it that one earlier with the six that was all in the final round yep oh no that was the previous round oh no it was this round both of them are in the final round that I actually completed them and I was trying at the same time to try to do these let me make sure I understand this correctly so I did both of these right so these are each worth nine yeah exactly but I did the bottom half of this so that's still worth three exactly okay still okay what's the matter now I need to add that up still oh your tokens on the bottom of this these two quests if you finished it right no no she can still just do the bottom half the bottom half okay do you have any quests left over that you didn't we only had two total right I finished them okay yeah see I didn't do the top half of this Quest but I still get three points for the bottom yeah so you got both of them nobody that would be six more points I didn't because I I didn't I messed up I thought I had some of these guys and I didn't but this one I probably have because it's flamingo's it's the same as this but it's flamingos and yes it can be both of them well couldn't you imagine yeah any comments that one couldn't do it I didn't have the red key oh the keeps okay I'm sorry um you got that one so that's three more points for nice yeah cool so that's just for the bottom half it's actually a pretty close second yeah if you think of it if you think about like any any of this one of these other questions if you would have been able to do the top half or that would have that again one two three four five six oh it would have been so close yeah foreign [Music] I like this game I like it a lot I want to keep playing it I like playing the Chester cat the second time we played I still want to play the Cheshire Cat because I just wanted well James was saying you give it a couple plays for each yeah I want to get it better I want to because I felt like I couldn't do it but I felt like I didn't unlock the um smiley scary things and I didn't use the rolling the die and giving other people shards as much um you didn't really come on that last round though when you were getting to add your strength you got to do that several times right that was really fun the game we played before I definitely did more rolling in the Dyson handing out shards to people but this game I I don't think I I started until the second round or the end of the second round right um but yeah I mean there's so much going on but it's not overwhelming there's a lot of choices but I don't feel like I'm my head's going to explode really right right and there's all and all of the choices are always at least for me do I do this that's good do I do this that's good too what one do I want to choose to do it's not like this is totally not even worth it right right um they're all worth it to me in my two games that I've played so it's always a hard decision because it's always there's a lot of games where it's just it's easy to know like this isn't even don't even think about it but this one I always am feeling like oh what do I do right so it's always I like that a lot Dave this is your first go so this is in a way sort of not my kind of game and I loved this yeah I mean I kind of figured you would appreciate asking so Kuda he doesn't like battle games I I and I think these battles are great all the battles in here are really cool the take that aspect of the game is perfectly in line with right where the where my line is sure as far as this is too much and this I can handle sure right um the funny part was because of Mad Hatter and obviously I wasn't sure what I was doing but it was very easy for the first three rounds especially to just have no shards and I thought well this charge thing and then I ended up of course losing eight the other game which which cost me second place sure right right so that part was really interesting now granted I took a lot of I did what you were talking about part of the reason I got charged was I needed to do this yeah so I made up for those eight over here or probably broke even right but even if Nikki gives this here to Lincoln instead of me it doesn't do anything it doesn't change the it doesn't change to whatever uh the scores at all it was really cool yeah you're right the the battles are really neat the wagering part is cool although it's really cool half my shards were from wagering right like my bets were just wrong every time for the most part yep I love that aspect I love the I love the wagering it's actually one of the good things about not being involved well the wagering was key to me at the beginning of the game because I had all these get seven of these tokens so wagering was important to me that was one more token towards making three of these cards right I mean these cards actually had great Synergy with each other so I don't know that those are on camera if you wanted to show those but yeah sure I could put them over here too if you want here so I needed seven tokens in these combos but it's like the same three right these two had flamingos and these two had the red Rooks and these two had the whatever oh yeah yeah you got that was a nice yeah and what was and these were all good tokens yep I mean they're all good tokens but like you know you saw me I ended up with four of these five all four of these in my bag were fives nice and that's one of the reasons why I wasn't sure if I should have chickened out on that fight like I wanted these to win that sure to win the the red keep battle so I can plant a castle then maybe I don't know the problem is if I it's one of those that's the other great thing that's a cool risk which is you think oh I don't wanna I don't wanna max out my madness unless you have something like a lot of stuff that's what I'm saying maxing out your Madness track is not the same thing as busting it's hard to not think of this as busting the first time you played yep but once you realize well this isn't busting there's almost something to be said for putting five or six in a thing and not worrying about your Madness track right you know I think I think a lot of players in your position right who don't really like a lot of Confrontation can like this game because there are a lot of Euro mechanics in the game the rondale and the car Drafting and building up and and the covering and kind of getting resources and managing all that right like there is a lot that's not just the area control part of the game right and the area control part I think is there is those technicalities right like we missed a few things here and it's going to happen because there's like oh I forgot to I forgot to use my power here yeah whatever right um I've heard a lot of people call it battle quacks right you know battleflex um I've heard a mix of of quacks versus and blood rage because you know with the figures having powers and that sort of thing but with the bag drawing I knew from the get-go we were all at a slight disadvantage to Lincoln yeah he's like don't I mean actually you I felt like you drew pretty normally this game this wasn't like a quacks game where you just seem to always get the exact thing right I did hang in there for you yeah exactly I mean well usually for me I I can avoid like the white tokens I don't know it's not always but no it's a lot of times it's amazing selective memory right it just feels that way but it seems to happen more than but I was really excited about the forging I I you could see I was trying to do two things in the game well you obviously had a forge card that was a quest and once I saw that at the end I'm like oh no wonder he's free but this was the one I this is the second one that I got I only got two of these cards the entire game but and I was like okay you know I drew from four to see what I could get and I was excited to be able to you know because I I like to try to focus on the forging I I mean I maxed out my castles at the beginning and the goal was just to get them all on the board and you know heck take more madness if it gets me a free Castle I mean you did that too it's although yours might have been a free free one I think mine actually had to roll I think I had to roll yeah I feel like I rolled up well one of your castles also came with the poison from him right I think yeah oh yeah yeah absolutely yes yeah I mean I took it but those I mean those are stronger I still have one in the bag those are stronger than anything come out oh yeah it seems like the cast of cards are are great they are they are they're really nice especially uh even that car that I took where it was allowed me to complete a quest right so that's one whole thing I don't have to think about on that last round I don't have to try to it's six points and you don't have to get into a fight yep yep if you Max it out I must have drawn them you know it's funny I know I had a lot of bad draws but I was you know you could rewind the tape right and be like remember when James said he's just gonna lean into the madness yeah right I mean I'm the one who seated my bag with all those extra Madness chips right so like because of the shards because of the shards right and so like dang it you know I was I was really leaning into the risky side of the back pools yeah and uh it did not um even with your Shield use I got to use my shield a lot because I busted a lot right but you did the thing you were talking about which was you drew the double and then you drew it again right yeah yep but um that's the thing for at least for me when we were designing the game we felt like the fun really kind of overrided the bad feels that you get from the RNG and so like in this game random number generator random yes the randomness of the game it it it doesn't at least for me and I know it's not that's not going to work for everybody and so if you're watching this and you're like oh gosh I would hate that then don't you know yeah don't don't lean into this game but if you don't mind a little uh wonky fun yeah then it's highly interactive um and there's not gonna eat you know it took us like two hours probably to play the game maybe a little bit more but it doesn't feel like no not at all because you're constantly I mean as soon as you this is always exciting watching what's coming out seeing what people take and then you immediately jump into the the battles which actually aren't that terrible they could take a little while right um but it's fun it's fun that you don't have to win battles to actually succeed right that to get what you're hoping to get right right part of the time was I specifically just wanted to last enough to to trigger this one right you know it's like I just need to last long enough trigger and I think it was I had to have an active chip with a base strength of one and I didn't draw that like yeah I did draw a forge token to let me do that but like um yeah like when I missed that 910 yeah yeah I thought well I have have three I have big numbers in my bag but all I needed was a one or a two it was worth trying right right and when we were designing the game this was everything we want to do is like how do we give a carrots on a stick to make people want to stop yeah right like forging forging the 4G mechanic came out of that yeah quests kind of came out of that of like we're gonna dangle all these little shinies in front of you to be like do I want to stop no that's pretty great because it it it allows you to sort of think is my opponent trying to win or are they just trying to achieve something and it also makes the wagering interesting I love this too this was exciting the the flipping thing that was awesome did you ever do it yeah I mean because once your bag once it goes back into your bag you know you switch it back to the other side yeah yeah I know well there will be one's the next round there is no next round and there's several of the combos from the ABCD yeah that I was looking at some really fun combos I was looking at the B so that's cool that each of these allies actually has four different abilities when you are they do you have to play with them all like can you play an A and A B so that's what he was saying to being in the game you can but we've we've play tested and balanced the sets together so you know and there's so much variability between uh your your player powers and the different ways that the Wonder Landings are gonna come out with those that we felt like that's that's enough variables for everybody to test but yes it's totally fine if you're like I really love the a castles mixed with this mixed with this you may get some really wonky combos in there but uh it could be fun I'd love to hear about them yeah I it's a real James it's really a great game I mean we had heard good things about it and we finally had an opportunity to try it out at the BGG spring and it is really really neat I have to keep bragging on Manny I mean yeah and it's gorgeous yeah yeah it's really really gorgeous uh and and just it's really all of it yeah the castles are you know just the they're so cool the deluxe version of the game they're all different too which is cool yeah oh really yeah there's figures for the for these things and all that I mean it's it was the kickstarter thing there's not sure good luck I've seen lots of um painted pictures of people just putting washes on these they're really good and adding you know all the environment you know you're like yeah over silver for the parts that are wow so this is just basically put out six yeah into in two threes basically and two threes and for us people who aren't the Red Queen we could do three here and three here so it's our our opportunities and I can mix it all up I don't have to do three and three that would be insane if you got that card if you had six though you know what's interesting is better round three you lost a lot of battles I wasn't doing this right I I it was like I wanted to do that but this seemed important to me and then then just finishing two tracks was the other thing you know I mean to be to have three I only did this because I wanted I I already decided the beginning I was going to do the see if I can do as many quests as I could especially since I didn't know the rule you can only do one per region that would have only that would have gotten me three more points that's all and it's not a big deal right um but yeah I mean even even those even those quests sort of just kept me in it more than anything for sure it was still you still have to do all the other things so if people were watching like what did James even do my strategy was this oh yeah it was to get a lot of quests and I wanted to spread out I wasn't going to try to win and I was gonna try to use my claw to just anytime the claw came out I was going to be passing out poison tokens to all the opponents and then I was just going to drop out of fights to complete quests but I just wasn't getting uh in the battles well enough and then I was like okay well that's now I just need to win so then I started like lumping things together uh so well that was the other reason I didn't try to stay around for this battle even though it probably would have been my best move was partly because I thought James needs to win a battle oh I got the sympathy vote it wasn't sympathy I mean I was second at that point Nikki I don't think had caught up to me yet and I thought well second might be good enough true right yeah and you did have all those like you said all those fives you had 20 points worth of I think I pulled at least one okay I think I pulled at least one or two I think I pulled two in this one okay because I was up to 20 or whatever in this battle this was the one I wanted to win the most because I needed a castle there as well sure that was 16 points for winning yeah yeah that's a funny thing too where you don't you realize it's good to win but I don't necessarily need to win because my goal right it's neat at the end I didn't care because I took that one free Castle the castle gives you a plus two yeah so it helps you win again but you don't get to keep planting a castle there right I think it's a nice little there's a lot of nice little touches gems it's really really cool yeah uh Tim Ben Eisner Ian Moss they really did a great job like balancing everything out and all the play testers it was it was good the game has no lemon though no lemon lemon that's ridiculous butter that's more like that's a really good maybe I got those switched it doesn't matter the good thing is the other way or the other way I can't believe I had it doesn't have the yellow hat or one it doesn't have yellow for you uh as well too your color your color I was like hey there's no yellow in the game yeah it's true it's true yeah you're right well thanks for teaching us James you're welcome thanks for
