a couple of days ago the latest version of Revit came out Revit 2024 and I have created a video about all of the new features and I'm going to link that video up in the cards above there I've asked the question what is some what is the newest feature that you would like me to create the first kind of dedicated tutorial where we talk more about it and overwhelmingly the answer was twin motion so if you don't know with the latest version of Revit or actually it came with the previous one but they've released it kind of mid-year we have now twin motion with Revit for free so in this video I'm just going to be showing you how to get twin motion for free how it's connected with Revit especially with Revit 2024 and I'm just going to be covering some of the basic features let's go foreign just quickly before we jump into Revit I would like to ask you to check out my website balkanarctic.com I'm going to link it up in the cards above and then also down in the description of this video if you're serious about learning Revit that's definitely the best place to be I've got over 140 hours of Revit courses where I take the extra time to go slowly step by step and explore numerous complicated and interesting Revit topics okay so now without any further Ado let's jump into the video so first I'm going to be talking about what is Twin motion and who should use it so twin motion is a real-time rendering software which kind of to explain it simply what you would get as a rendering in Revit twin motion shows you that all the time and you can walk up around this well rendered model now with the latest latest version of Revit it comes for free so you go to Autodesk website where you would download Revit and you just type in Twin motion and what you'll notice is you have a button there you click on that takes you to a different twin motion website where you can just download the software and install it now one of the main benefits of twin motion apart now for us Revit users being free is it actually really simple to use and easy to learn it has many outputs so you can output images panoramas videos shareable presentations and it even has VR integration which I think it's really cool I know before before Revit 2024 we had one click sync which was good now we have Live Sync so any changes that you make in Revit now they will be made in Twin motion parallel it also adds a lot of content so a lot of elements like trees Furniture stuff like that materials around fundings all of that is included in Twin motion and you can use it and it also has some smart assets which are kind of completely adjustable weather reactive and some of them even have sound which I think is really cool now finally the question is who should use it and who shouldn't I I think any architect should definitely used twin motion just because it's so simple to use and it gives you a large enhancement when it comes to your presentations without you having to do that much extra work I wouldn't recommend this for people that are kind of full-time visualization experts just because there are different programs that give you a lot more flexibility and a lot more options however those are a lot more difficult to learn and they don't come free with Revit okay so that kind of concludes a little overview of twin motion and now let's jump into Revit and see how twin motion is used used inside of delay latest Revit version Revit 2024 let's now jump into Revit and as you can see here we have rabbit 2024 this is my famous office building project that I'm going to use for this demonstration and now if I go here to the view tab what you'll notice is here we have the presentation panel and next to rendering and Cloud rendering now we have twin motion now you do have to have twin motion installed so as I've shown you in the beginning of the video and also something to keep in mind is install the latest version of twin motion you have to install twin motion 2023 to work with Revit 2024 so I earlier I had the 2022.2 version I think and it just didn't work with the latest version of rabbit so this is just something to keep in mind okay so once you have that installed you just go here to open in Twin motion and it's actually going to start twin motion for you so straight out of Revit and it's just going to start up here we have that famous new Revit project file and now here we have the direct link dialog now something that you'll notice here is we have multiple options the first one is is this an existing project or a new project now I'll talk about this a bit more later once we save the project but for now let's just leave it as a new project because we haven't opened up this Revit file in Twin motion or Revit project next here we have some options which might be collapsed the first one is collapse and you have three different options do you want to keep hierarchy Collapse by material or collapse all so what does this mean well when you export the geometry out of Revit into twin motion it's going to kind of divide it into different elements depending on this collapse so keep hierarchy basically means that any rabbit elements so any Revit family it can even be a nested family is going to be kind of a separate element Collapse by material might be even better because this is going to basically divide everything into materials so everything that's of one material again then it's just one element and then you can change the material so if you're using this for materials and for adjusting materials which you're probably going to be doing then I definitely recommend this option and then collapse all means it's just kind of one element so I'm just going to set it to keep hierarchy and I'm going to explain why I did that a little bit later on and then here we have the full Precision UVS it's kind of for material mapping I tend to leave it tracked on from what I understand it's not much different a difference having it on and off here we have the process so all mesh is light so I'm just going to keep it all lighting side things I'm just going to use the original one and here we have the substitution table this is something a bit more advanced and I'm going to be talking about this in my upcoming twin motion course but for now we're not going to cover this okay let's click then okay and that's going to start up twin motion and here we have our Revit model now out of the gate this is a little bit crowded now here I'm kind of zooming out and what I like about this new version of twin motion is you can actually clean this up quite a bit so you have your icons down below and depending on what's checked on over here with these icons you might get these panels so if I click here on materials it's going to even bring up materials here and then we're working with a really small window so if you just uncheck all of these here then you're going to have a much larger window and then you can work with your model which I think it's really cool now in terms of navigation you can and use your mouse so basically you use the right Mouse button to look around use the left Mouse button to orbit around and then use the scroll wheel to zoom in and out or to move forwards and back or in and out and then if you hold it you can kind of pan around and you move around basically by using the gamer keys so w is forward s is back A and D for left and right and then you can use q and E to go up and down so if you've been playing video games then you know all about these and you can also hold shift to move faster so those are the options now I'm just going to make one quick change here by selecting the the site that we have here and bringing it down just a little bit so we can see the original Revit site okay so now let's explore what's new with Revit 2024 and how it's actually connected in link up with twin motion so what I'm going to do is I'm just going to open up rabbit and then here in Revit if we go to the twin motion button and expand that drop menu you can see that here we have some options now previously we could synchronize this so we could uh essentially make a change so here in Revit I can go and I can place something so let's go here to component and I can just place this tree here hit the Escape key a few times so now if I go back to Twin motion essentially nothing has changed here and then if I go back into Revit and if I go to my view tab go to Twin motion and check sync or click on synchronize now once I go back to one motion you can see I we have this tree here however if I go back now into Revit and open up that drop menu again and use the new auto sync function as soon as you may any changes in Revit those changes are going to apply in Twin motion so if I take this tree and move it up here then you're going to see that in Twin motion that change has already been made so you don't have to think about it is the model synchronized is it not or it's always going to just make those changes okay so now for the next step I want to just show you how the how these twin motion files work and where do you save the twin motion file where they save the rabbit file and how are they connected uh so once you start your twin motion project you need to then obviously save it so I'm just going to go here to file save and then I'm just going to save it here in this folder and I'm just going to call this my test project okay so once we have that saved and now I can just come in here and close down twin motion and that's it uh now forever they can close down Revit I can continue working in Revit so when I want to continue working with twin motion and work on that same exact file which we have created previously what they need to do is go here to Twin motion go to open uh in Twin motion so that's going to start the twin motion again however now in the directly direct link settings I'm going to go to existing project instead of new project so we no longer have to make any changes to to the to the options because we're now just going to be basically defining an existing project so I'm just going to click OK and then find this test project we here which we have used before and it's going to open up that exact project and as you can see here we have that site or the twin motion desert in this case this was now moved uh okay so moving forward uh one more thing that I wanted to show you uh when it comes to working with twin motion is you can actually well obviously you can add elements so for example if you want to add trees you can just come in here drag a tree here and well now we have that tree here and you can drag more and there are infinite other tools which I'm going to explore in the future but for now I just want to show you one more little trick where you can kind of work both with twin motion uh and Revit elements so here we have this rabbit tree and let's say this was a project where this tree is important it's there on the project and it's an important tree we have to kind of work around it with the project and uh well obviously you want to mark it in Revit with a rabbit tree because if you just place it in Twin motion it's not going to appear in Revit so if I go here back into a rabbit you can see we have that original tree but we don't have the twin motion trees the those stay in Twin motion okay so let's now go back to Twin motion and say okay so we have this tree we have placed it in Revit because it's really important for us however we don't want to have this ugly kind of uh RPC tree uh just standing here so let's now replace it with something a bit more interesting so what I can do is I can just select this tree and as long as I have collapsed this by kind of keep hierarchy and not by material well I can simply select this tree it's going to find it here in the properties panel so you have to have that or not the property sorry the scene panel it's going to find that tree and then here we have these three dots I can click on that and now what I can do is I can replace this object okay let's see that should be in the properties yeah we need the properties panel for that so I can replace that and I can just drop any element here so I can come here to this particular tree drop it in there and start replacement so now here we have this new tree in Twin motion that's exactly in the same place as that rabbit tree and now if I go back into rabbit and I say okay well this tree turns out it should be a little bit to the left I was wrong with the original placement well now as long as we have our auto sync turned on it's actually going to move that tree in Twin motion however annoyingly it's going to change it back into that rabbit tree so if you want to make that change again you will have to go here and replace that object and do that again so I find this a little bit annoying however it is good that you can actually replace objects and probably once you replace them you're not going to be moving them so it shouldn't be too much of a problem so there you go that's the new workflow in terms of twin motion and Revit now it's for free which is really good I'm talking about twin motion rabbit definitely isn't free and we have that Live Sync option and we can start Revit from uh start twin motion for from Revit anything that's uh really good I think these options are going to make architectural visualization a lot better and they're going to bring these kind of uh enhanced visualization tools to a wider audience which I find really exciting so anyways please tell me in the comment section below do you have perhaps a particular topic when it comes to Twin motion what would you like me to explore next and I'll see you in my next video where we're going to be talking about the famous Topo solids inside of Revit so this is again a new Revit 2024 Tool uh and one more thing if you're interested in my Revit project files like this here office building that we have well you can find all of my Revit project files on my patreon page which I'm going to link up just below this video in the description and then also up in the cards above thank you for watching guys make sure to check out my website balkanarctic.com for more Revit courses there I have over 120 hours of content and I'm adding more each week make sure to subscribe and for more videos and also I've added a video over there that might interest you as well
