Replacing the mounts on a bulldozer blade

[Applause] all right the project at hand right now is doing a little bit of work to this bulldozer so we got a few things going on here one it needs to be washed to do the work uh second thing is we got an issue with this blade actually welded this before you can see the welds i made a few years ago where i added these bars and they didn't break but it's still you can see this thing is still ripping off of there and it's not really a problem with like the welds being not good enough that's more of a design issue where this just isn't strong enough so let's revisit this and do something better than it has a piece of cutting edge i have it it's gonna bolt that back on issue over here it's got a hose that's a little wet so let's see if we can figure out what's going on in here i think it's one of these guys all right well let's get this thing washed up and then bring it in the garage and fix it up so [Music] [Music] so [Music] so so [Music] all right i had a little more pressure washing i wanted to do here just like that but this was weak the whole time and then it just stopped i thought something was happening to this so then i realized my well pump went bad down in my well i just went and pulled that out [Music] um all right so got the d4 in here it needs a few repairs so the blade has a ton of slop on it that ball thing on the bottom is a ton of play and everything about the blade is sloppy plus we got a hydraulic leak right here i think it's one of these hoses all right so here's all the new parts so luckily all these weld on components were available you know right from uh cat so this this is the top mount right here this was completely that's completely blown out in the machine this is wrecked on the machine and then here is the bottom thing brand new got some shims my cutting edge got me both these bolts i got a little they're either way too big or way too small [Music] [Music] so [Applause] [Music] [Applause] all right we want to do next i'll pull that blade off [Music] [Music] that's easy there's a bolt to fix [Music] [Music] okay [Music] [Music] that's gonna break so mark the outside one oh ah so okay i don't think this hose is this in this channel that way easy all right see i see the prop one of those spacers got seized to this pin [Music] so that's the guy that was stuck right [Music] there [Music] definitely let's pin hole in the side of that [Music] so [Music] there's two options here one option is replace this with metal like it's got the other is just throw a rubber hose in here which is way easier and the rubber won't rust out either like you know even though that's not leaking i don't want to put that back in there like that we're actually going to change all the hoses on this thing so we don't get confused here a little bit of color coat stuff so let's make purple our bad hose right there we're gonna bring a purple zip tie to the store to label okay [Music] okay that's fine i think someone already did this job and changed these to rubber all right so we got orange right there wait right there which is this one this is orange [Music] [Music] uh all right see now i wasn't gonna bother with stuff like this but you know what look look at that actually here even better look at that one right there let's just change everything i got all the hoses off now this cylinder here had been leaking you can when these seals are out like that they're usually leaking [Music] uh [Music] i get those two cylinders rebuilt and new hoses all right i just got back from the parts store i got all new hoses let's get this blade off of here so man that's all over the place moving look at that uh [Applause] i guess you gotta loosen these a little bit at a time [Music] oh you know i'm sure if i spent another 45 minutes on this i'd get it apart but it's a waste of time [Music] [Music] oh [Applause] [Music] [Music] so [Music] look at the difference on that [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Music] that one bump right there [Applause] so [Music] all right i feel that looks straight [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] wow [Music] okay that is fixed fix that one all right as far as positioning goes so that just needs to be centered with this one needs to be let's go from right there bent let's measure it from here all right since this whole thing is bowed out let's cut this pretty aggressively here [Music] wow [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] i'm noticing here see how this is is making contact with that we get to this side [Music] and it's not i think it's gonna that's bent right there [Music] um that worked look at that [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] 22 and 5 8. [Applause] okay the old plate was quarter inch this is 3 8. [Music] i was going to put this just like that while that new plate on there and call it but you know what that's going to do that's going to move this plate up 3 8 of an inch which you'd probably foreign [Music] here we take this right there [Music] [Music] so all right there so now the back of the blade is welded to the face of the blade to keep it from separating again plus this plate is let's deal with these bolts that are broken off like that all right now i find it best to wait for it to cool oh man i felt like it was going to [Music] wow so oh oh so [Music] these threads [Applause] it's just gonna break you know if you didn't care you could just put i mean all that holds is this thing you could just stick that thing thing on there weld it and it's fine and then cut these shims that go in here and actually to make up for wear what you do is you take them out you take out shims um but you don't want this isn't supposed to clamp this ball so tight it's supposed to it's you know this is solid rock here we're blasted hey buddy what do you think should we rip this would be cool the dozer had a ripper on it all right well that's fixed so you know that was a little bit of a project but everything seems nice and tight now i want to dig out this corner more for a little more space so i just uh put a deposit on a cat 988 that's that thing would pick this up it's big so this is going in the garage next that doesn't need that much work though and if anyone wants some of these old bulldozer parts so i'm going to do this as three different listings so there are the things that mounted the blade frame there's the lower blade mount and then there's all the hardware that was broken doing this all the nuts that were welded it's the old bearings i just got these memorial plates for levi too so i'll put the link in the description for these things i'll also put the link in the description for the video last time this was welded and in that video i also welded the frame back together on this and people always curious how things hold up in the long run so let's take a look at this all right and this is what i did right here so that still looks fine i haven't run this in a while but i've certainly run it since i've welded it and that's fine this was the second time this has been welded it's the previous owner welded it before me so it was there and it was that side and this side too which there's no cracks in that all right well we're all done here i'm confident this repair is fixed so let's uh let me line up another job for this to do a better demonstration of it operating
