NO OIL CHANGES? Servicing A Broken Yard Sale Lawn Mower,

[Music] hey guys how's it going yeah grab this mower at a yard sale about two weeks ago three weeks ago now and we're just getting time to go play with it I haven't done anything with it other than throw it in the back of the truck from when I picked it up so we are going to hold on to that you know a little your phone's just stuck on there we're gonna go through it the owner said it was not performing very well so I'm not quite sure what that means I think he was in reference to it just wasn't cutting the grass nicely so let's go see what is happening with it and see if we can bring it back to life one thing it was weird is that the guy still had the box with it which is a first for me so it does have some kind of information on it some things that do find it's kind of weird is that right there I guess I don't know if that's something new they want to go try that you never change the oil you just add the oil and that's kind of funky I don't know if they run into a lot of problems where people just maybe overfill them and cause damage and they think that maybe they just get longer life out of it that way but we're gonna see what we can do maybe to get around that and actually change oil in it and see what they changed to have this be like it is you know what they modified on the motor who got rid of the drain plug and yes so let's get set up and take a peek and see what we have this even got I believe the owner's manuals - that's the first - usually that stuff doesn't have to come with it and I guess a little discharge chute I think it was 30 bucks a PA for think they're asking 40 off for 30 and actually doesn't not look terrible I'm surprised but then again we may not have that much that much hours on so that part looks normal as far as the dipstick and everything let's get rid of found you phones oh geez an extra set of those laying around for buy one of the grinder hmm let's go spin you around to the other side it'll pop that air cleaner off of there looks like it's seen some nasties I noticed on the other side it's dated and that's wet inside there should be gas kind of foul gas it showed that you can kind of tip it either direction and I usually like to tip it so the carburetor is up and the exhaust is down so a lot of times there is a crankcase breather coming from the crankcase and I usually push it to the air cleaner if you flip it up on that side it has a tendency to want to put oil up inside the air cleaner and that may be what this is the issue with this right now so we can get a block we're gonna go flip it up and we'll see what the deck side of it looks like I grab the jack stand so we go flip it up on its I see what's wrong with it already let me put a new blade on it your bleep on it you see what the issue is now what now how about now yeah that's the cutting edge and that's the mulching edge the cutting edge is supposed to be with mulching edges and the mulching edge is supposed to be where the cutting edge is the blade is on upside down that would do it that would make it so it just tears your grass out because you're trying to cut with the blunt end of tear with this so that's first part that we notice that being an issue dream plug is no longer I don't see like they capped it off or anything they just it's not in the casting at all by for the most part really don't use them anyway I generally tip the mower on its side and I dreamed it out through where the dipstick hole is just for these teams to work pretty good too so we'll still be able to change the oil and I believe but that that's your problem you know never know what you're trying when you bring something home from a yard sale but I'm glad to find that because then it makes some finding what our issues is much easier let's go get me Peck gonna get that blade off we'll get that flipped over and continue on with the rest of servicing it's any more luck at some point we're going to bring it back to my house and we'll go cut some grass with it see how it does just a good buzz I've been in universal male to come see worst I was gonna show up it says grass side I said that's been doing all the work cut all right sure it's probably been plenty of machine I've run into that that's better as you can get that oil out of it yeah well that crazy about that anyway I'm not changing either it just seems like a very odd try and do that run for a few minutes and maybe what we'll do while that's draining out we'll pop that air cleaner off I'd like to get to the bottom of the flow pole at least put a float ball off and inspect how dirty the carb is let's go get into that corset two different sizes I wouldn't they be yeah iced up breather I was talking about so this comes from the crankcase and any blow by will feed its way into their two screws get under here I probably ought to grab those with a quarter inch ratchet before I open it up I'm gonna take an air gun and blow some of the crack out that is a stuck inside here there's a bunch of debris nerd alert probably should hit with pressure washer first but no well you treat size with you yeah I don't have any lower at home please are not generally kind of giving them away as fall approaches just say I don't hold on to them over the winter time at the time is due to lack of space the whole moment I'm able to find them really easy just like this one yeah is I in our area yeah if you hit them more well-to-do towns a lot of times they end up at the curb with a freestyle on them cuz they left gas in them and they won't run them up here well maybe they put the blade on backwards and that doesn't cut well and this guy said he had a service coming he decided to have a lower service take care of it so they're fairly easy to come by around here I would guess that this mower is ten years old like missing one quick mirror it's all plastic hardware so I'm trying to take it easy on its own smooshy nothing now the only thing I see is a allen head drain on the bottom of the bowl I don't think that's holding it on just give it we're in you know back you up let me take a quick peep it on the bench and see we got go dump that in a white Cup and see if it's pretty yellow a little bit of Turpan not anything to be that concerned about I would guess the one thing it's good about the plastic bowls is that when they corrode they don't start rotting the ball and putting debris in it I mean I'm not gonna pull that carb it actually looks fairly clean I'll show you looks pretty clean inside so I'm not gonna mess with it I'm gonna leave it alone all the regret that later but for now we're gonna bring what we brung this looking fairly clean other than that the old fuel that's in it we'll give it a quick shot the Aragon I'm just gonna hold the float which way was it that way or the other way you guys gotta move so I could see actually the needle falling out the pin was falling out you look pretty good looks pretty clean you can do my best to whittle that back in there without pulling that car ball but it may be just faster this to pop it off I will say it looks like it only goes one way to see worth at the bottom of the jet protrudes and I believe that just falls into that little cavity so it's only gonna be able to go on that direction like that what was it like like that let's go pop the air clean a base back on if it was really dirty I would have gone through the effort the extra effort [Music] we figure the ones that have metal threads should go with the metal goes and I would think the ones with the plastic get rid of plastic gears and tighten up jebra one is on the socket first the economic filter we have to get one of those but for now we're just gonna blow out the one I got we're just running with it I think the oil is pretty much done whatever it's gonna do you can go not paying pitch what I'm doing flip that get whatever we can last out of it and we'll fill that back up well the one that guess you know for that not being able to change the oil but the only thing I found is people over filling them not so much not changing them that's pretty crazy I had one more why smoking like a bathroom and I brought it home looked at it the dipstick was you know they filled it they filled it fill it to the top this didn't see any dipstick what it used for oil generally it's like a 10:30 or a straight thirty ten 30s was takes like couple of things they show pictures he doesn't see anything about it which just gives you an illustration on the motor what to go do and they have you changing the oil by tilting the mower back I tilt it to the side essentially you want to get to this corner and have a per draw the handle it gets to be a little bit in a way to try to do what they want you to do here and also the air filter is missing the foam that goes around it so somebody was in there like I said they probably flipped it up on the carburetor side got oil soaked into all this threw that away just put the air cleaner back on it and went with it so let's go pop that plug out of there stand it a little too close never change the oil just don't understand is that supposed to be a selling point look out she's a fuel soaked a little fuel soaked so hopefully that neither one seat is working and I have it coming out it's already like that but we're gonna go find out when we go to fire it up I didn't go clean that up in a sandblaster we'll put it back in mmm that's a little better after we hit it with the sandblaster I go back when here again I kind of blow out around it cuz you don't want any of that abrasive in there if that will definitely chop up your top in scratch up the top and the hood SEC as I'm sitting here looking at it just notice right now so you had a problem with it cutting not cutting well now I'm looking at this lever and this lever are not in the same place that one is - from the top one from the top one from the top and then when it's too so they are not on the same playing field now they are down a level let's go check the rear put a week I'll we in the middle right now yeah we're in the middle rung in the back yeah we're fine here in the middle on both sides so one we goes kiddy Wampus I don't know maybe he was trying to compensate or the way it was cutting me he tried kicking it on an angle like I do see is some nesting material so it's not uncommon to have mice in our area let's take a second pop that shroud off the top of it and see you can get any debris out of here it's air-cooled engine air sucks in from the top exits out at the bottom well if it gets clogged up it will overheating and its demise fairly quick there and take an air gun will blow out those holes see what the hazard screws get that one that one she's just sitting on there or if we need to take this off first so the camera shut off on the last clip while I was taking that cover off and it said memory card error unfortunately fortunately I didn't lose the rest of them but that last clip was gone you didn't miss too much just pop that plastic off there was some debris in there not terrible you can kind of see I'm still poking pulling some material out I don't think it's mouse NASA I just think it's debris from running it and where it got sucked in but I'm gonna go bring it over by the door gonna blow it off with the air gun and possibly fire it up hit it with the pressure washer you're a little bit of a bad see the oil bubbling up out of it that's what happened to it and put some of the good stuff in it that good stuff looks like premix you get a little bit of smoke that's why I'll call that could well hurry I wouldn't run a long time on that cuz that'll carving up the the exhaust but push for a period of time machine bother it let's back you up and see if you fire up might be a good idea to move that air hose that's blowing a little bit of smoke you can see it that maybe just from oil either got over on who knows you can see it pissing out and there was a big dirt stain there before so whatever it was was doing that earlier I'm gonna go grab a clamp for the handlebars fire it up and let it run just let it run for a little while the other thing too is if you just overfilled the oil it would cause all those same issues to we all let that run for about ten minutes that's fine it's been about 10 or 15 minutes I don't see any issues with it doesn't smoke just when I first started it was bubbling out a little bit of crud out of the muffler it seems fine I say we go put the covers back on it and throw him crusty you bring home a cuddle a bit of grass one thing I forgot to do blade off I don't suspect it's gonna be an issue because usually the more vibrator go bad I just want to check well fast before when the blade comes around its gonna put my finger here to plug wires off and I'm gonna just spin it and make sure that blade is on the same plateau which it is just looking for their pent blade or been crankshaft I'll see that being an issue with either of them you gotta undo that pull start handle has to go through that cover sometimes just a slot cut you know you don't have to do it yeah that fish through the cover first he just snaps on on the drive then just two screws in the rear put our pull-start back on now I see you go find something for underprivileged grass I need some cutting die okay so it's gonna pick that up and brown foraging [Music] and homeward bound she goes I want to tell you that down so I have a rider but the rider doesn't get into the little nooks and crannies that well so it's always good to have a push mower to get into you know the little different spots and it's nice to have the rear bag or set aside bag or just because that same reason you get close up each side so let's go fire up there you go she's a cut nice and level I think she'll be just fine 30 bucks fine hours worth of work nice machine let's get me air filter forward but other than that she's good to go so one thing call you for hanging out with Mina do a bit of wrenching on some cheap junk and bring them back to life until the next one I'll see you later and make sure you put your blade right side up that's much better that way [Music] you're going the wrong way we'll find a spot and future exhaust system got a cool look to it
