Will it Run? Garage sale Honda outboard,

hey guys how's it going hey last summer I was going around yard sale and I came across a older property that had this Honda outboard on it four-stroke and there was a woman running the yard sale I think it might have been her parents house they were clearing out I just don't quite remember it was been in there for a long time she said and really knew nothing about it I opened up the gas cap it smelled real bad I asked what she wanted for I think she said 30 and I said 20 or I paid 30 somewhere between there 20 and 30 bucks got it as is don't know much more about it than that and of course when the time came along before I got to go through it I figured now would be as good a time as ever as it is springtime and that's when it's got the most value so let's get it out of this garage we'll bring it into the big garage and see if we can bring it back to life what do you say all right well at some point we got to put it in the water but until we get it functioning I'm not gonna worry about that we'll work a little bit more comfortably up in here you know I'm not sure what year it is you see that tag I'm guessing a DS has that kind of look to it four-stroke fuel shutoff sure it's kept you know LLL check on oil fill somewhere on it see if you see a horsepower reading on it too that's probably oil right there I don't see anything in it it's not sitting level let's go pop you in the stand and we'll get the cover off of it still looking for horsepower rating maybe on the inside hey where you think this tap right here mice come jumping out of it didn't do it just firmly attached to the pull start that see in the middle that might tell us right there glasses on I can't see no I don't see anything just how to start the engine yeah I'm all to get it get a better whiff see what's happening inside here nice it's got its own gas tank actually smells better than I remember let's go see what else I'm sure everything moves if Google lines pretty petrified feels like that hasn't turned in a while I'm almost tempted huh pop a little bit if you want us here we get let's get the plug out of it pull her over a couple of times pull you out of there it looks like new look Carboni have a large gap - looks like logs at sparks I guess it doesn't matter let's go see if we can figure out a way make that happen that's all plastic gonna get by the pull start maybe and we have an on/off switch that we have to have on yeah what a weir start is it's got a stop button it's a momentary switch too though so that should work for us let's see if we get it wrestle that pull start cover that is really slow carnot we are going to dump a little bit of oil down a cylinder and lubricate that that has no compression on it but yet is turning very hard I don't really see a way around that pull start so we're actually gonna go cut the knot and we do that when you put it all back together as long as I don't lose the pull start into the pull start right there yeah make us fight it list don't let go yeah it's good throw a loop in it we're gonna have to undo this one later but yeah that should hold it now let's go get some oil and shoot it in there it's just motor oil the piston all the way up you might have a funky combustion chamber there cuz that's better hey let's fight that's pretty good right spark now huh oh yeah good that's the most expensive parts we know work let's you want to dump a little bit of fuel on it actually you know what let's go check out the crankcase make sure we got oil in that yeah I leveled it I would think that that would be a site window for the oil dipstick on it see if you get anything could've been laying on its side to you and everything ran out of it yeah wipe that down and kind of a check but shut I'll wait in there how's that geek which part you to run it out anyway there is oil in it hold on one second let me get you there swim in it but it's looking kind of cloudy see I may be too much late for you what's that bright drain that out you see a dream we just want to tip it on its side and we'll just tip that on side and I think it's just what I say it was just 10:30 good that's nothing fancy yeah let's go dump that out and we'll refill it just so we know we got a good start plus we get a good idea what's in there fortunately I kind of like to run them a little bit to get the crap kicked up before you change it but it will do it twice what's a hold a piney let's see how much of a mess this is gonna make China hold it where is it actually not too bad it looked worse when I'm looking down the hole I wouldn't exactly say that's a ton of oil coming out of there though huh that's it little wha wonder why I was so hard to turn over bone-dry let's go put her back in the stand and put some fresh stuff in it okay you let me know what it gets halfway across there let's be springtime go turn the heat on trying to turn to you dot it's what do you nine degrees in here like perfect boating weather do you think it holds not exactly is love with me there is it go with that still not showing it's already three times the amount that came out yeah man watch it has nothing to do with it it's filled to the top already I do see little lines on it though I figure that's the window for it but it did have a dipstick let's go where did I say yeah all right well that must not be a cyclist oops [Laughter] yeah this has nothing to do with it huh I know what that would be I have an orange manual oh yeah thank you think of his uh deceit coolant going by you know like from the water getting sucked through yeah that ever just filled right up past it you guys didn't tell me what happened it's very like to see what the oil levels right there you can see it in that one hair over let's give a couple of tugs on it now that it's got the crank case it's the right level you will feet for a Honda that it wouldn't be a start and go what I mean by starting going doesn't have forward new trim reverse you started up and it's going we're just gonna it now it's direct mix it up a little bit less of a motor is can't start it up and warm it up and kind of stay still she was you give her she's going you know and for a reverse you just spin the motor around backwards on the transom uh I want to be able to get water in it but it is still kind of cool out we could probably take the prop off of it and run it maybe in the garage you know if you take the prop right off so it's not trying to push all the water out of it I don't think it aids in pushing the water through I think it just sucks it in through I think there they were there and I see oil or the bottom end I check that at some point - what if this was used in salt water maybe they may that's why it's got the the second fish only him up there let's get that that prop right off it I would think that Cotter key up and as you see over the pond split pin I'm still going to say car key over here though it's a plastic problem let's get that out of the way but you got stainless that chirping is been raised a break well it's not gonna fall out of there we'll leave it alone for now there is a spear up top I saw it was a little right here is this Bercow to Keeton a spear pin hopefully show you right I think I kicked out a spider out of his no hiding spot his friends are coming a rude awakening do you ever get the strange feeling that you're gonna be washing the garage for today yeah I'd say we go maybe shoot a little bit of fuel down the plughole give her a couple of fires and see if she fires over see we can go from there ask if this is shot two-stroke fuel started up started knocking away like crazy so I would think this is probably a kicker actually and I'm starting to bring it up I think they said it was on a sailboat generally sail both are what's called a long shaft go down the water deeper no that's the case with this don't you beat one size to it are you far enough yeah there's a joke there hey wherever that is I need to talk to you later I think we are good enough we stand back a little bit you get the bucket in everything and see what we get no joke we'll give it we'll put the starter where it says start yeah water pump pumps to what I think we have a little bit of a problem having that water go back down into that bucket we're gonna put another one next to it we'll catch it you know how that's gonna work out for it run yeah you think that'll work yeah the pea trajectory going into there I don't know how long we're gonna get out of that bucket running where it sucks out of water - I'm tossed between just maybe opening the top of the carb and looking down inside of it or if it was run out of fuel I want to just leave it alone all together maybe we just put some fuel in it and see what we get that's probably the thought process I'm going for it's not really gonna hurt too much if you know hope we just make stuff wet right so yeah we don't we put some fuel in it keeping it at the prime up and get it to run on its own before we take a hole that we don't need to take if it runs an idols and does everything it should and we'll just deal with that you know maybe service in the the bottom end and cleaning up the top and call it a win and I think we're getting ahead of ourselves though it's uh put some gas in it and this is some premix so if it's most little that's fine but am i doing that for the first run of stuff don't mind the CD container as long as the scene doesn't go inside we're good and they will call that I don't know if we can just to have a primer button I don't see one it's just on you just want to give her a couple of Yanks and see if that'll work for us if not we'll put a little bit of fuel in it in the plug hole again and give it a fire and that should be enough to suck it through hell they has a fuel pump but back you up again I'll get the full full pee effect right thing let's go just give her a couple Yanks how's that [Applause] and then it died it died I guess is on let's give it another shot right good dog well [Music] kill button work yeehaw yeah I love Honda stuff yeah they must have ran it out of fuel I see what a swore that I smelled when I was there I kind of smelled like bad gas is that not he's not the case so I'm not gonna bother over you and opening up that carb I turned the ultrasonic cleaner on for nothing that's me a leak saw anything yeehaw it's a four-stroke - the waters not getting all kind of contaminated cuz it's really not pushing anything out of the exhaust that's nasty you know nice little motor yes it's a motor not an engine it's actually both right all right let me regroup and figure out what I want to do why say we take a minute and spray down some WD lean off the crap it's on it make it look pretty I think I'll look like how it runs right I think what we'll do is we'll take the bottom in your oil and we'll deal with that we'll check that what they have on the bottom where the prop is I'll show you in a minute is a UH a fill because it's the gearbox you know changes direction down below so there's the gearbox that's down there and sometimes especially if the motor sits in water this will probably didn't but they'll have a tendency to draw water in so what you do is you can take your oil out the water is sits on top of the oil that's the way it works so you push it in from the bottom just there's a fill in the dream but it's opposite what you think you actually the drain in the fill is the same the same hole you drained it out and then you put a bottle in the bottom and you push it till it comes out of the top hole and what that does it gets any trapped air because you're filling it from the bottom up not from the top down and just like any gearbox once it runs out of the top hole then it's that's the fill level and again with this one I'm guessing that it might have been running salt water just has that kind of look to it a little bit more corrosion and you would see on something I was in fresh water I think where I got it we're it's only ten miles from the ocean we've got a bunch of ponds around us too and lakes so if it was on a sailboat unless it was up on like Lake Winnipesaukee there's generally you don't find sailboats on the small lakes here it's just not enough room for him all right that's enough screwing around that I say we get it out of the bucket now get the it out of the way this oughta be funny good think that lever on the seat will work of course not boy dump that whole hangar lift the motor off of that and get that bucket out of there this is the bottom man this is two plugs I was talking about hit the drain pan clear and a deal we got should have to take the top one out it's for it to get to run can I hold you can you hold your thumb over struck yeah it's a looking a little milky a [Applause] little a little more credit in it should so it's good that we're doing it it's a little bit of moisture or water get in there not enough where I would feel that we would need to change the seal because usually water would come in through here a little tiny tear right there maybe we have to change the seal after all you see it I'm gonna get some glasses on take a better look at that know if it's focus on what's behind it or hard to tell if this camera give her back drop I'll let that run for a few minutes baby poo now that's like a little hair hanging off a little hair of plastic hanging off the face of the seal it wasn't a phrase that got Tory out of the middle but it's not I'm not gonna worry about that one up the back of the prop is gonna rubbed up against that I don't see anything looks like it stays away from the seal pretty far right yeah okay that pin touches there don't worry about I wouldn't see it's terrible you can tell this a little bit of water that got in there a bunch of air pumped in it too from running it you know yeah it got kind of blended up we'll let that sit so now I got to get a gear oil bottle and I'm gonna put that like oh sorry about earlier for the euro a bottle in there you squeeze it till it starts coming out of the top so that kind of it fills up the whole gear case if you dry pouring it in from the top sometimes air will get trapped in it and you get a false reading that it's full so that's why you fill it from the bottom and I think it might push any contaminants out to I'm not quite positive with that though let me go see what I can find and we'll get that done yeah this is gonna work for us those verbally without a piece of grass stuck to it let's see if that tip is yeah see the air bubbles coming out of it yeah we're gonna go it's got a little bit of positive pressure on it and like I said sake holding your finger over a straw you take it out of you drink it wants to stay put that in get that out of there and you can get that one in that's it pretty simple it's probably the first time this has been Dunning I don't know we're gonna call this an 80s machine so 90s to 2000s and then the 19th right 30 years he's probably about 30 years old one of you guys probably already looked it up and I already know what it is I don't I think I'm gonna leave that bench here pin in there it already has a spare up in top I guess we have a grease fitting let's go get you understand we've got a grease fitting here we'll give that a shot that's just for the coupler and this is drag this is more or less tension so that when you're turning the outboard it stays in position you can get you lock it to where you want or if you want less drag on it you want to be able to turn it easier you just back that often it should be easier to spin we're gonna go hit that with a grease gun and it's probably the last point it doesn't have an air filter outboards John we do not have air filters because they run em clean that's got a bold ring we should probably pop that bold ring out - why not I'll show you what I'm looking at right it's gonna bold ring or anything we can get - they don't run air filters just like us no snowblowers don't run air filters - they're just you're running out on the lake the airs generally a clean environment doesn't have much of an issue with you know how much dust is on elite so let me go grab a grease gun let me get that bowl out of the way before I knock that on the floor probably should have marine lube but it's getting what I got right now let's go pushed out of it yeah that was a Marine lube anyway that was in there just regular grease soon they fuel shutoff off get that bulging out of it I get it I told you I put two-stroke gas in it so it's gonna be dark in color I don't see if you get a lot crap with it too though Honda not be ten millimeter yeah it is catching the cup I got some derp I think I got the dirt just from the the crap that was on the screw when washing out of the socket Shane what it means a little bit of dirt that's floating around in here let's go dump that out we'll turn a few on we'll let it go flush its way through again and see if it just kind of comes through a clean that's pretty clean let's go see you want a peek yeah that's looking pretty good yeah clean enough where I don't feel like tearing up for us yeah a little hint of something they do one more time you see a little little fine particles Corinne set out on one more time people take some car clean and clean the glass that might have been just some stuff that was washed off the outside of it you know speckles yeah I'd like to take the titik to the camp and run it on the pond but I just got off the pond not that long ago I don't know how well I feel about going out on it can you I have a friend I think just looking for one of these some party he's probably gonna buy it off me probably be good on the back of the the beaver but I think for the beaver I want to get an electric motor beavers that Lavoie in Phoebe's vehicle I did last year for those who don't know yeah yeah I think we're funny I think we're gonna leave well enough alone which if that drain plug back in and clean that plug looks fine and good getting anyone but there's nowhere on that at all I thought that was at first back in it goes the other other damages he's a small crack in the plastic mission here and right here apart from getting you know take it off the back and thrown into a truck and if it looks like there's a piece missing here doesn't have any issues with its functionality it's got the spirit pins like I'm worried about changing them is then you won't have a spare nicely put the bent one back into I have a feeling if I try straight in that bit one I'll probably end up breaking it yes I'll leave that alone didn't even need the choke to start started without the choke we want to do anything else to it I think it's pretty good it would probably undo that pull start we'll put that cover back on and we'll put the buckets under it one more time we'll fire it up and the gas on then we'll turn the gas off and let it just run out of gas and I could just dump what's in the tank back out of it but I think it's gonna be going to a new home fairly shortly again I wish it was a little bit warmer we'd uh bring it down to the pond and running around but I'm too cold for that right now just spray that car down a little bit before you put it back on that's the exhaust side that's the exhaust side do you think that's where it's at when not used during the gas out of it and it leaked and took the paint off I probably know what it is because the exhaust goes down below right so you need another Ray yeah quite fun for the Honda step on the snow blowers it's a Honda tractor device I'll have any Honda cars but we never did now or tear out a fan even even the old stuff once again call childhood youth will call it youth my childhood it's when you're 19 and 20th you're not a child although sometimes I'm queued to being a child now but I have a a 73 Toyota Celica st but a fun little car that was it was the I think that the two for disease Toyota's version of a sports car essentially exactly with a fancy crawler he had an 18 r18 RC worked on plenty Honda stuff on two cars at the time at that pull star through there and hit that back at home speak at Honda got done you brake shoes for that I can do a video on it but trying to do some brake shoes is last thing that's kind of missing see if you do that pull start without losing it just start on me well safety me and knots don't get along very well case you don't know we need to not use wire cutters and do it so you can get a little bit of pair of pliers at tighten itself right up you might use wire cutters that pull-start it's officially to reach a shorter yeah that next about cover go back in time not then we gotta hit it a little bit of heat he kind of melts them out a little bit locks it down give her a little bit at which time me cruson gas around it I keep that from getting undone why not took the gas cap off to get it off I'm not sure if it needs to or not let's see if we can I just got a tether in the front I think that is it now that's it good guess so let's go through that water back underneath it we'll fire it up one more time we need our receiver pail well fire it up and we'll turn the gas off let her run out of gas we'll try it no Chuck no choke in the start position see we get [Music] now [Applause] [Music] [Applause] dad day that was too easy the next so the last two were really easy that was the bus motor that fired right up and this guy - I was hoping for actually got a hoping for a better fight be careful what I
