Mudlarking For Pottery & Sea Glass

[Music] walk [Music] with me let's leave the past behind walk with me there's something else we need to find say you'll go don't make me wait there's [Music] let's make miracles come hold my hand let's find something new me and you hello again hello we're back out today at the beach beachside beachside dump which is all the way down there so what we've done we've come in from the charmer then this time because when i walked a bit away at the beach it was just littered with glass and cockery and today that's what we're out looking for mainly blue and white um crockery pieces but we're going to pick up sea glass along the way and see what the beach gives up all the way around here so we've got quite a bit of a way to walk down there um there's a bit of a windy day but still it's not cold it's a lovely day it's a great day for this hopefully we have some nice finds come and join us i was still miles away from the dump site but already i'm starting to pick up some nice bits there's a little bit of patterned crockery there uh that has writing on both sides it actually looks like crab trees might be part of a electrical system it feels like pulsar lane there's plenty of sea glass here though i didn't realize this beach was so good for sea glass there's lots of it which is particularly good because jackie uses a lot of it in her craft so yeah it's good that we can top up on that while we're down here as well still trying to walk along to get to where we're going keep getting stopped by loads of glass just spotted this on the shore very well worn would have been a thick old potter one time looks like a panini isn't it i don't think i'll be eating that one though okay look just down here beautiful that's definitely coming home with me i'm finding the odd plane bit oh no that's got writing on it blur i think that says glass look at this bit no that's just plain so yeah i haven't filmed everything i've picked up otherwise you'll just see me picking up loads of glass which isn't very exciting anyhow see what else we can find it's just way too good sea glass down here look at that most of it's just nicely smoothed off by the sea the action of the sea i just saw another nice bit hiding down there really good for sea glass in the bag we're letting it distract us from getting down the end of the beach so we're gonna get a bit of a spirit on and walk down towards the dump site this bit of sea glass i thought it was actually something covered in bright green seaweed i've got colorings in it must have been in a fire at some point i suppose that's a lovely piece of c-class yep keeper it's always a bit special when you find one that's multi-colored look at that lovely when you're on a space as big as this that you find things as small as this look at that a bead it's not a beautiful color turquoise keeping that all right i promise i'm not going to show you that much more sea glass but look at this that piece that piece that piece that piece that piece a little brown don't have to go very far even little bits in here as well oh i feel like it had a red ginger it's probably brown another piece another piece another piece you see this is a mixture of bricks and glass that looks like a piece of it is milk gloss milk glass sea glass how cool is that that's a lovely piece of driftwood i could really do something with that do you think i could get jackie to put that in her bag it's that put it in context jackie's over there yeah quite like that it's a keeper look nestled in here there's a little fossil what's this i see little springy thing i might keep that that's kind of cool this lovely aqua nugget i've just found my favorite color of sea glass perfect for jewelry making that pendant smoothed off it's got a bubble in it as well cool hey look at that nice big chunk of blue i can see another one over here liking that a lot well not usually one for picking up rocks but another pattern on there the veins going through it that's a cool looking stone i'm not gonna pick it up though because um your bag quickly becomes heavy picking up stones i'm gonna have to rush jackie past this bit but look at this sea glass everywhere all different colors that's amazing i see that i can only imagine that's because we're getting nearer to the dump site it's just everywhere jackie sees this i'm gonna have a job to pull her away blue tiny little piece of blue must stop picking up sea glass right down here what we're looking for okay just down here look there's a chunky bit there probably a rim or something on the bottom of something maybe near the lid maybe who knows i've disciplined myself i'm not going to pick up glass now unless it's blue blue or red or maybe a little bit of that quite like that oh nice color that's a lovely color i couldn't couldn't leave that one could i yeah i can stick to blue and red although i haven't found red so just bloom red and green and white and brown and amber starting to spot loads of fossils now as well look at that one there as well i suppose that hasn't been taken by somebody yeah hopefully hopefully today we find some more ammonites as well with that uh goldy brassy color to them they were amazing i know nicola white adored hers and jackie found a couple as well i never found any i found one ammonite which was quite plain so yeah i'll be happy if i find one of them today one of them one of those a lovely bit i just found nice bit of blue and white a few bits of milk glass there i'm collecting that though getting nearer to the dump site now but the tides still coming in so we need to get down there there's a there's like a cove there we'll be safe from the incoming tide there so we're going to hurry on a little bit you'll probably be safe up here but if you get a couple of freak waves because the wind will get wet and you can't go up there because that is all bogs up there you'll sink so we need to get along to that cove down there very close to the water here it comes right by the water is that beauty lovely well look at that for a fossil put my foot there big one that is that won't be going in the bag there's an interesting piece of pot looks like dameth or damie one point it looks like a tile but it was obviously from the pot that is one point that's interesting i'm just scouting around on the edge waiting for the the tides and it's at its peak now i think i'm waiting for the tide to uh drop back down i'll just pick this up turned it over and it's got a little royal crown on there it's the queen's crown so that would probably denote victoria yeah interesting look at this i think that is top of the lid maybe a can or something i kind of like it though might be able to use that proper headstone created by little sea creatures that is living in the rock and they burrow into it crustaceans i found a bit of an old bone toothbrush look first time i found something like that that's good yeah i like that around in these low areas i'm looking for um patent pieces of pottery that's how i found this toothbrush as well just a minute ago just found these in that little bit there now jackie's been making a sea glass and that was close and pottery coasters um she makes them out with shards of blue and white like that and like that so been getting a bit low on it so that's what we mainly came out today for i put a picture up of jackie's coasters now they look amazing just having a little straight round here and look at this oh that's nice i could think oh look you can see a head on it that's cool i like that yeah me too scraping around in this bit here and i found a bit of pattern glass and the pattern on it caught my eye it made me see a fossil next to it as well similar patterns still scraping around there's a nice little piece of bloom right there that's what i'm after that's always perfect and as i was walking along look what i found it's a bit damaged but it's still a glass bottle stopper you look at that just laying on the surface it's broken there's a bottle stopper last one i'll take it nice big piece of blue white peeking at me there it's quite thick i'll take it anyway bit over fuel glass or multi glass lovely this is not my spot i've been i've been looking for little bits of color jackie just spotted this that's a bottle stopper and a half start writing on it as well looks like it says the feel easy i can't make out the bottom word that's rubber vulcanized rubber that's a huge bottle stopper well spotted thank you very much just found this it looks like somebody's here made out of sea glass that way that way i see glass here i think that's probably done the marmalade i've found like that before good old scrape around look at that that would have been beautiful when it was whole another fossil there was both sides i'm going to chuck that up on the path so there you know you get those people down here fossil hunting they'll let them out but so they'll find it on the path just uh spotted this in the sand sorry the seas a bit now we're right next to it but nice goldy color doesn't feel soft enough to be gold though more like a rose gold i'm guessing it's grass i'm going to take it home test it anyway nice little thing just see if bit blue might poking out oh that's nice i don't know if we can use that though can we use that for anything [Applause] we'll put it in the bag anyway we're on our way back now temperatures dropping like that pretty isn't it like gray i don't know whether it would have been originally that color i think it might be but you never know and i'm filming wobbly again i do apologize found another crown there and another nice little bit of blue and white i think we're gonna head back soon the tights up um and it's getting cold now so nearly seven o'clock at night we still got like an hour and ten minutes to drive home as well so as if i can drag jackie off the beach we will see right this is a little roundup of what we found yesterday um like i said we weren't really there to search for amazing artifacts from the dump we were there mainly for this the blue and white and the blue glass but we did end up picking up a lot more so we've got some lovely bits of blue there's a few nice nugget shaped ones as well um i'll pick these up because i like these it's glass that's been in a fire and they just have so much character i really like them i really think i can do something with them what i don't know we shall see um lots of greens and browns a few few pieces of little yellow and uranium glass in there as well and i particularly like this aqua colored glass so i picked up quite a bit of that and there's some nice pieces in there as well um yeah some various different colored pieces of pot there's a couple of fossils that were picked up as well plenty of blue and white which is what we're after because jackie's been making um mosaic pictures and the coasters the coaster mats as well she's been using sea glass and the blue and white pottery so we started getting a bit low on that believe it or not but we also found lots of other different pieces of pottery as well some of them are really nice so jackie found this which i think is absolutely lovely a little person there who's a hat um i found this which when my initial thoughts were it's gold but now it's kind of drying out it's discoloring it's made of brass but jackie wants to use that in the project i think it's quite nice actually jackie found this metal plate as well no idea what it would have been off but she quite likes that and she found a bead a nice table shaped bead i think it's porcelain it's over pulled lane of glass it feels like porcelain to me a few little bits of red glass which is not not easy to find as you know this one was nice it's red glass in the middle with a coating on the outside as well the bottle stoppers um i found this little glass stopper and we think it's not that broken we think that is actually the bottom tip so whether that was from a small perfume bottle because it's a lot smaller than normal glass bottle stoppers one of the gross type porcelain stoppers would have had a wire cage to clip it down i know these go back quite far jackie found this bottle stopper now this is from a victorian era baby feeding bottle we would have a tea that goes over that um and one of our viewers uh they identified it on instagram i put a picture up on instagram and they said yeah that's a baby feeding bottle stopper and apparently um they were cause of many infant deaths because they were hard to clean and they used to give the babies sickness and diarrhoea which is kind of sad uh jackie's big bottle stopper it's got written on it the phil easy but we can't make out what the bottom word is it's just too warm it's a vulcanized rubber bottle stopper it's huge and on the sides it's got two holes you're getting the light seal one there one there so whether it would add a carrying handle or a wire handle so you could twist it on and off i initially thought it could be for one of those foot warmers but as i understand it i think their stoppers were made of stoneware as well anybody ever seen one of those before well i never have was the bone toothbrush that i found the remnants of it never found one of them before so i was quite pleased to find that there's a couple of pieces of multi-glass now some of them i'm pretty sure is where the glass is just fused in the bonfire as they used to have the brown and white green and white and green and white again but i i don't think that was fused together by a bonfire and i think that's part of something it wasn't that was made that way um various have a pattern bits of pottery some nice bits in there we're pretty sure these two came from the same pot and these bits there some writing on there we do like to find pottery with writing on this especially if it's identifiable it would have been a nice scene on there yeah i'll pick this bit up because it's got writing on it it says danny d-a-m-e-y and some sort of crest on there and yeah just a few other little bits oh and this bit i forget the name of this kind of probably my brain keeps saying samia wherever that's roman um yeah i forget there's a little face down there a little head and face a few pieces of patent glass forgot about that as well which was really weird because i found one of them next to a fossil actually right next to it it was like that just like the pattern was the same yeah but that's it it was quite a good hole um like i say it was a mainly a trip it's a bit pottery there in the glass it was mainly a trip to get um colored pieces of pottery for jackie's craft making and i think that's a good haul well thanks for watching if you enjoyed the video give it a thumbs up we are now
