Mudlarking In The Cornish Sun A Return To Hayle

hello hiya back out again in cornwall on our favorite one of our favorite mud liking beaches hail and it's a gorgeous day look at this you've just come down here and there's already a mud locker down it had a chat earlier yeah this is that beach that is absolutely littered with crockery and broken glass and other bits so hopefully we'll have some good finds for you today nice pretty piece of packing glass down here it would have been nice whatever that was yes letter a there very nice okay as per usual looking to top up my blue and white nice little bit down there that's quite big in my shadow as usual brilliant keep looking and see if we can find anything spectacular fingers crossed and this bit of glass let's see goals over there i'm going to go at each other this little glass it's got wep written on it and i'm wondering if it's an old schweppes bottle not brilliant fine but interesting um some of you might have wondered where we've been lately um jackie had an operation on her shoulder and the operation was not that much of a success they did say it was a chance that it couldn't work so she was in a lot of pain for quite a while afterwards and we couldn't really get out and then when she did start improving she caught covered so but now she's over that she is feeling better so we're getting out and about again and what an absolutely gorgeous september day to be doing this so you've got jackie over there um my sister who's mudlarking with us the other mad larker that was on the beach when we got here and a local talking to her seems to have quite a bit of knowledge about this particular dump so yeah my sister's just found a glass bottle stopper which is it's got printed on it gartens who were a source company and they changed their name to hp you know who we all know now hp being named after the houses of parliament because they started supplying the houses of parliament and the politicians with hp sources so they changed their name to hp so yeah i'm just having a scout around really not looking for anything in particular at the moment just seeing what's about because you this beach is one of those ones that changes every time there's a storm or you know windy conditions yeah hopefully we do find something nice today look at all these rolled bottle tops what you got there big blue and white or not yeah no it's cool i don't have that it's my sister-in-law with us today she's already found a bottle stop yeah show us your box look at that it's got um garten on it yeah i wonder what this is let's have a look would have been a button keep that because i can use that in my crafts bits of older paste jar here hoping i'll find something a bit more complete nice little piece of pattern powder either not blue and white black and white i'll keep that one for jackie for a craft that's just so much to look at it's a bit of a poison bottle down there see the ridges on it nice little handle with a pool sand cup i just found this bit of glass and i quite like this it's a pulse lane on the back glass on the front see the laser this is quite nice okay cassie's just found this look at those markings i might try not that but i'm not going to take it home it's got seaweed all over it but we'll see if we can look that one up later cool i'm loving this isn't that pretty can you see that big old glass lid would have been a nice thing to find hole it's like down there that looks interesting nice old piece of green glazed porry would have been the handle for something i should imagine a nice bit of chunky blue and white there there's some really interesting bits here it's quite concentrated so i'll have a really good mooch around here and hopefully find something there's another bit of bloom right there but hopefully find something lovely nice big piece of bloom right there we're not seeing a lot of blue and white now and we think there's been a lot of mud lockers come down here now collecting the blue and white okay nice to find that look at that an old mixing bowl shame that wasn't hull use that [Laughter] chatting with this uh local gentleman who comes down here and has a wander around um yeah and he's had some nice finds of there's a bit more history to this place than than we thought um he's actually had a bronze age pot down there um lots of roman beads so yeah you see we need to keep our eye out for the finer stuff i think it's always good to talk to locals you can always get a nice bit of knowledge of them he's also giving us a tip of somewhere to go nearby which produces whole bottles and that as well so we'll check that out another day really nice of him though yeah interesting i'm gonna go for a wander around the corner because there's a bank on the road there which produces stuff as is eroding and i've only ever wandered up there twice so come with me see what we can find isn't that gorgeous would have been a nice old pot of some sort wouldn't that still looking for the whole one i've just found a little piece of blue and white i'm quite liking this bit of a patterned brown glass very nice i might keep that and see a bit of a cod bottle there in the crease in the neck i did see another piece of copper it looked like it had writing on it's another big bit of cobalt there i can't find it now it was a shame because it looked like it had um local writing on might have been a local cod bowl oh there is e-l-l yeah it's not anywhere i know around here nice bit of pep and pottery there as well see some bone over there it's quite a beer let's have a wander around here see what we can find lovely i like that i'm going to keep that i'm going to root round collect what i can i find anything spectacular i will show you just found this little button on the surface i think it's probably around about edwardian periods but it has some detail on there some writing so she'll clean that up at home and we'll see what we can find out about it i always like to find metal buttons oh there's a really nice piece of glass there unusual shape would have been an oval dish of some kind that's nice i'll keep that and see if jackie wants there's a nice bit blue white there oh look at that wow lovely plate that would have been it's just littered everywhere there's a piece of local beer bottle h a y who would have now the hell oh i'd love to find a whole one just don't think it's going to be tapping down here everything's smashed all right this is what i came down for this part it's red and white pottery last time i was down here there was lots of it but not now a lot of it's gone particularly muddy bit at the moment see what pops up here nice bit of a pond's jar there oh well a cream jar face cream lots of other makers and ponds teapot big old neck on that ball ah there we go red and white red and white red and white red and white all this is red and white red and white tons of it that's a particularly nice piece i'm going to pick some of this up i've just found this a bit red and white in the back of the plate and it's gwi which is the great work great restaurant great western railway and it says restaurant car that's kind of cool i like that and down in this area finding a lot of cod bottle remnants maybe if i'm really lucky i'll find the marble as if they've already been smashed and taken by kiddies there's just so much here everywhere bits of pottery glass and you can see it sold by its thickness there's no way to look first really fingers crossed i still haven't found anything spectacular left but you never know that's a big marmalade pot what a shame i wonder if all the bits are there i don't think they are another bit that's from a separate pot that is ridgeway i don't know what's in this mud then a few secrets under there there's another part of a local uh cod bowl there and just see rdru th red roof yes another nice local ball well that's something a bit different knocking a mobile phone not a particularly ancient pedigree one we just supposed to take that and dispose of it properly don't want it in the water oh i found a phone i found a phone i found a bit of blue and white yay there's nice bit blue there i don't like blue glass yeah there's quite a lot of that here the light blue stuff and it's quite sharp so yeah i just can't believe that we can't find any bottle stoppers there's so many bottle heads here i know mad whole bottle with a cork still in it incidentally if you do come to this spot right this river that flows out and then flows around the bay if you come walking in it um make sure you don't eat anything or you know put your fingers near your mouth or anything afterwards because it's a runoff from the old arsenic works and it can can be contaminated with arsenic make sure you always wash your hands and just be careful with that another nice piece of blue and white there we are starting to make our way back now um still no stubble popper at this point even though there's absolutely hundreds of bottlenecks down there just sitting in the mud they've been lifting them no stopper boppers today's not my day just pick this up and it's got 17 5813 on it so we'll be able to research that and we can see part of the name it may be brand or it looks like rand and looks like chutney but it's a glass bottle so we'll have to see it might have been a jar yeah so we'll have a look at that when we get home bottom of a ridgeway pot here would normally walk on by but it's got an emblem on it and it's an imperial eagle nothing else on there anybody know what maker that would be let us know in the comments below that would have been an ornate handle on something wouldn't it i like that i'm going to show doug that really pretty saw this rim of pottery there poking out i was pleasantly surprised when i turned it over look at that that's nice i'll take that one and show that to jackie i wasn't expecting that when i turned that over no trip is complete without finding the ground a bit cheese nice i think they can stay there i don't know if i've found this one before or not i found a couple of these but they're let's get around to the light so you can see that not genuine unless bearing wmp hartley's label so there's been jam or marmalade again shame is not hulk um we're going to head back now the nearest place we could park and he gave us three hours parking but we are out again tomorrow we're going over the other side of the um the marsh the sands over there because that local fella gave us the tip there's bottles in there over on that side as well so that'll be in a
