[Music] [Music] all right mud lovers how you doing i'm out today mud locking with a good mate nick hello and uh we're going to go mud lucky for me he's looking for anything old and interesting on the foreshore of the river thames when the tide goes out so i've got high expectations because he's an expert at mud like he's been doing it a number of years had some amazing finds so our hopes are higher let's get some luck in the muck [Music] you want me yeah you wanted somebody today yeah be good looking forward to it i love audio discovery look you see that in there oh clay pipe yeah look at that nice it's like concrete in there in there i wonder if that was done deliberately placed there there's a light little joke or something that's heavy on london it does feel concrete or might be rusty concrete well just look there and i can see something round or just a button let's have a quick yep just a regular little one i say i found a little bit of lead type apprentice type yeah it's got a little that's probably a d even though it's like a b print backwards a huge chunk of river wool has popped out right beneath where we might like him but been there a while but thank god we weren't underneath that when it fell out that would have hurt i just found a little bit of paste paste stone would have gone in a cufflink or a stud beautiful color isn't it it's like a little little ethanoid sort of style it's really cool maybe i'll find the coupling to go in here one day i've got a little collection of these nails without going with that they're beautiful oh what was that we got neat little commonwealth coinage see the shields on there i do two on that side oliver cromwell and then one on that side it's a lovely little fire not really all hammered yeah not exactly the most common hammers you can find either it's in really good condition that is great well found yeah i was looking around here i've spotted another button see if it's any good oh that's nice very nice art nouveau button that's that victorian 1880 i guess that's lovely [Music] i just found this i don't know if it is anything good probably not but i've been rubbing it and rubbing it just to see if i can get the dirt off not sure if he's a possibly aroma or just a bit of junk it's definitely not iron though because i'll just test it with the magnet so maybe there'll be some on there so i think giving it a little rub and a little face appears i'll let you know so i've just been rubbing this gently in between my fingers and i reckon there's a header now looks like it could be a roman dinari so the other side's a bit blank but there might be something on there so i'll put that back in my pocket and uh give it a gentle clean when i get home and see if i'm getting more detail in there so yeah chuffed to bits of that you can just make out i reckon there's a nose there in the head very worn but still is what it is pretty sure it's a roman coin happy days what was that poking through oh looks good looks corny coin8 looks the right size what we're after it is you're looking at a 17th century token yeah we can definitely make out letters i can read the word brewer in the something house limehouse outside of london this has come a bit of a way oh zachary zachary frank how cool is that what i need [Music] a couple pieces of lid for you first one is a little bag seal and these are from the post office so not that old probably like turn of the century and a little musket ball nice that's nice yeah big old lace changing in there bait rolled um as well as a fashion accessory aglets were used to stop the ends of laces from fraying and to help them be pushed through holes on clothing just like laces of today oh there we have a nice little garnet in its natural beauty quite chunky as well and they're lovely well look at that i found a little gem earlier a little paystone and this would been this would have been the original item how cool is that that is a georgian cufflink with a paystone in it ah well happy with that there must be more round here i reckon very nice i think it's a little rose farthing that's very sweet we do a lot of rose farthing i just found this some sort of seal i think it's got the word gin on it it might be modern all right looks like it's got a bit of vase to it considering the condition might say uh some right around the edge which we might be able to work out butters so i'll do a research and see if this is anything rather interesting which i think it probably will be well you see there a nice little glass speed that's got to be those two i reckon a bit bigger than my normal ones beautiful little bead spotted with my bdi [Music] i'm just poking around down here i found that it's a little lead horse with the soldier on top encrusted in a piece of rusty junk i wonder how that ended up like that i think i'll leave him in there and it's cold there's a bit of bone at the bottom as well all chucked out probably gonna be heap or maybe burn no won't be burnt because in the lid wouldn't have survived so maybe just a build up of pressure over the years that's got encrusted in there and he's got no head as usual so he's got his front foot on that horse though unbelievably you see his sword there how cool is that just add this up interesting piece of bronze or copper this rock is a foot off of a uh planter i've got one i'm in fact i'm missing one that's what i think it is yeah a little bit of furniture a furniture mount i've got a planter at home and uh there are four little feet but one of them went missing so maybe this will be the replacement for that should be a little cat's foot that's what i think is a bit of a old jewelry that's pretty nice yeah setting lid computer all right oh i've got a little mystery item for you now it's only modern only been the river a few months if not a year but a nice little detail there i wonder if it was a hold a plant part or something i just just curious really i might take it and do something with it just like that little tail kind of design there nice isn't it just if you know comment below well i have a little scrape here and it looks like a nice little coin or is it a button oh do you know what i think it's a button what a little tease it looks so much like a coin what a tease what a tease [Music] well next has had a lovely little lead trailer no was it a lead bag seal things a bag sealed cloth or something like that nice beauty you can see a date on that i think that's 18 18 on the bottom yeah sweet [Music] never seen one of that before i should be able to do some research on this and find out who what where and why it's like an r maybe a jr sr don't know [Music] well it's a little scraping i think i might have uncovered a little rice farthing i reckon so i will give that one a little clean up give it a zap and see if i can get a detail of it that should clean up really nicely i can just see the crown at the top there and the rows below that child's first row race father in mid 17th century excellent well having a little scrape around and this miniature abundance has come up we've got a feeling it could be a a royal navy button might looks like it could possibly be an anchor there but again same as the royal fire then i have to put it through the electrolysis give it a clean up stick around to the end and uh we'll see what it reveals so some of you may know that nick is an author as well as jason sandy they've co-written an amazing new book called thames mud larkin i've got a few of my fines featured in there as well and it's a great book and it's going to tell you a bit more about it now there's the lovely book in your hand i can see it is that's the one that's awesome and so that's a collection of all different mud lockers isn't it around london it is um and a history chronologically i understand in order from going back from prehistoric that's what we've written chronologically beginning with with prehistory fossils early man so flint tools and so the introduction to mud liking in the beginning and then and then we go straight into it megalodon's woolly rhinos and flint tools so from very early prehistory early man into your celtic roman fines all the way up medieval post medieval georgian victorian first and second world war it's got everything it's got over 160 images with contributions from over 50 mud locks that's it a car written by myself and jason sandy available on amazon and all good online book retailers fantastic it's such a good read as well it's so so well written and i think the photography just makes it absolutely yeah a really easy read and you can just learn so much from that or that one book is that not in your pages and uh yeah jam packed full of amazing finds and little stories to go with it yeah loads of little stories and yeah cool finds and it's good to see finds from from other people other mudlax in the community it's got uh simon's lovely hands in the front cover there there we go bracelet yeah i can see it there we go there you go there's my hands there it's a pleasure to be part of that really was i think it's fantastic and anybody who's got any interest in mud larkin should go and buy a book it's very cheap it's only about eight quid something like that from amazon so uh go out and get it now but also we have a little giveaway don't we nick this is my last signed copy by both me and jason we managed to get together uh for a couple of hours to both sign the book so this is the last one i've got left for now so i'm going to be giving this away on simon's what we found all right so me and nick put our fines out so a little uh butcher's out now we're finished i'll go through my bits first a really cool little lead soldier still stuck in the crud a few pipes unusual black type there it's quite unusual like that um so yeah other bits include crossfire things nice bit of paste jewelry georgian stud little bead there this is hopefully a roman coin i can sort of see ahead on it so i'll clean out when i get home and see if i can idea hopefully i will so here is the mystery coin i've cleaned it as far as i doubt i can confirm it is silver and i've sent photos to a few experts but sadly they don't know what it is they tell me it's too heavy for a roman denarius so i'm going to show it to the museum of london to the flow that's the fines liaison officer and see if they can work out what it is so what's your space subscribe because i'll be giving updates as soon as it's id'd um nice little nouveau button there and some other buttons and also a little button there to clean up probably a military button might be a marine navy button [Music] [Music] i will excuse the dirty fingers but i think that's as clean as i'm going to get it happy with that considering the condition it was in to start with and clearly see yanker and we can clearly see the failed anchor royal navy button mid 1800s i thought some ships nails garnets and pins and lead seal and buttons and other bits and bobs so yeah good little mud light today happy that little selection and uh i think the best find of the day i personally think goes to your lovely tradies oh yeah yeah and the welsh got minutes uh domino oh that's the number one i think yeah it's unusual what's that made from do you think uh but whether it would be ivory or not i don't know possibly ivory looking at the color of it little lace tape yeah yeah staffordshire slipware love those little bits a bit of a printing block looks like a v-r-i-l maybe maybe could be that 10p what's the bus for home this is a bit of a rubbishy ring yeah it might look like this somewhere too yeah there's something on there might might clean up all right oh if you do clean up when you find some words on it send us a picture yeah uh commonwealth penny that was quite [Music] great condition one there better than mine as the traders token from zachary that's awesome if you're a regular viewer you will know that we love finding these trading tokens because stamped on them has the vendor's name location and what their trade was these are like a post-medieval business card if you like this token belonged to zachary francis it actually says zakacy on the token which is a typo because many people even the token makers weren't very good at spelling and he was a brewer from limehouse which is in east london on the reverse would have been an image of a wheat sheath which was the grain which was used to make beer and whiskey for example this coin dates to the mid 1600s oh a little bit of a jewelry there yeah but it's like a quarter thing yes it looks like a looks like a almost like a ball head sixpence that kind of thing snapped maybe a bit big for that i don't know but forgery maybe i don't know it feels more coin like the ned like but i don't know little thumbs up oh yeah a little bit of your paste there yeah another little stud or button yeah a little paste stone in there georgian and you've got your lovely lead bag silk your cloth seal yeah we can find out a bit more about that hopefully yeah little bits nice yeah lovely day out mud liking so this is my old victorian copper planter very nice it is and you can see how the base look the little feet that hold it up just like the one i found on the thames and as it happens if i turn this around it's actually missing one just there so i can use this one fix it underneath there with a couple of screws and a bit of glue and it will complete the set thanks for watching my lovers and don't forget to subscribe and hit that notification
