Magician FOOLS Penn & Teller w SWORD + PHONE BOOKS!!

I'm West Barker and I'm a stunt magician stunt magician is just a really cool term I made up just so I didn't sound like every other comedy magician I used to work on a road crew filling potholes they eventually offered me a promotion and I just had this flash of 30 years in the future me still being there and I quit on the spot and I said I'm gonna be a magician my stuff isn't like firefighter Doug that's not that kind of thing it's more like weird things like gymnastics and stunts and party tricks basically please welcome Wes baka hi I'm Wes you only use a big strong guy for this trick but at digging I knew if I come to Vegas something would happen with this that is a phone book it's a bone book they're super irrelevant you guys are clapping for phone book phone thank you phone books are super irrelevant but I made a magic trick out of it cuz why not have a look at this one make it make sure it's like all normal phone book it's a normal phone book check to make sure all the pages are different that's me very important the old gift phone is cause I can see something go go go yep yep yep all right give me the phone book and you're gonna grab the pen and paper what's gonna happen is I'm gonna roll through the phone book like this slip through you're gonna say stop wherever you want okay and then you're gonna write down the page number okay so whenever you want I'm not gonna looks whenever you want to stay stop stop right there you happy you want to go more I'm good a pen right write it down I'll try and hold it for you okay got it you got it okay good look way down put it down there yep okay now I need to rip this in half okay but but don't do it this way don't be like the spine okay that's not the way and a lot of funny guys like to do it like will they open it up in the middle and they go like and they go like that don't do that way there that's not good I want you to rip it top to bottom twine with your top savonia really I feel bad doing this in funnier I mean it's kind of easy come on you know well here's the thing you're a vegan aren't you can I've weakened it for you oh yeah oh yeah I just want to make sure that you know that this is fair right I can't do that there's been super fair so far and you can't do it I can't do it so it's a real phone book I'm gonna give it a go here please this is the part we need I'm scared of your wife I'm gonna gonna throw them around this sir I need my thing hang on e my thing huh I'm gonna do uh sir held us yeah so like I'm gonna and then I'm gonna okay you're gonna throw them and I'm gonna stab your page okay right so yeah I'm this guy like I knew that guy like that dream short I'm really good at flour you'll get so uh yeah basically I'm that you're gonna go like that I'm gonna like the Hat they're standing over here while it's the first time I've ever seen the photo book lifting off a Cuban man this is our last try take those you did you did good with the you know it was wrong director trying awesome today one night okay with a Penn & Teller talk about what they just saw I know they do anybody much when they know who did it that was incredible now here's the thing I know you had some early days you only days that were working hard days for you as a magician oh yeah oh yeah man this is a far cry from the $50 gigs they stood old-age homes well not that fondness for somebody cousin a young girl either would you think wouldn't do this act in an older fellow people yeah well oh so you would get an old man in an old people someone asked him to rip her phone book and I would ridicule him when he couldn't do it I've been the guys who ready now so I'm gonna go to pen and hear his verdict on what you just perform for us well I'll tell you that was amazing it has been a very very long time since we've seen a phone book I know kinetically that you are hung a little lantern on that said it was irrelevant but still it's a hard time for strong men now during a phone book in half because carrying a iPhone in half is much more difficult a lot more energy and in your phone book you know I don't know what city that was at a Vegas phone book no I think it's from the variety Bank Hoover Vancouver oh so you wouldn't have Luke Skywalker's number not full book would you think but that would have helped you do the trick a lot what would it be so when you say Luke Skywalker are you are you suggesting that he's famous for something in particular yes I am okay did that thing in particular feature in this at the end there oh I'm sorry I'm to me rather ah no no no did not ladies gentlemen we'll explain some of these in a minute once they explain it to me okay I was missing what you're saying but I told him on your page now and no no this could be I think while the remarkably one of those moments where Penn & Teller well would quite know how it's done well they're saying is awesome you totally do the trick that way is just not how I did it but if you're saying it's absolutely not a force right then there had to be a holding a break and a peek afterwards yes and maybe you would have to have write some sort of index there after you did it after you held the break and did a peek um no index don't it's not the second phonebook is boom boom enjoy that moment too much but man okay we have taken this is just ridiculous we've taken two runs at this almost seems like we're about to cross into unfair and almost seems like we're cheating magicians are supposed to cheat you have cheated better than us you sir there you go I I don't know I got nowhere this is amazing Wow thankful the Roku how long ago seemed to start emerging of eight years eight years ago from the road cool a German working out there imitating Springs to fooling Penn and Teller here on the big stage in Las Vegas where's Barca Wow that was pretty good one

Cutting away right before Wes grabs the sword for a second time, is a PRIME example of how this shows editing has hindered it slightly. It's not necessary a camera trick, but it does hide something a smart eye could catch.

I know were not supposed to talk about the way he did it but can we talk about the way he didn't do it? What did they mean by mentioning "Luke Skywalker"? Were they inciting that he was using a fake phone book?

I am not a magician.

But it felt like Penn was basically giving up in the sense of "We're not going to be assholes and insist that you didn't fool us, and we're wasting time on TV, so we'll give in." this is just a purely intuitive response, I have no evidence.

Are we confident that they really fooled P&T?

I just watched this episode and read the comments above. I believe Wes marked the page Jonathan selected by creasing it. Then when Wes was demonstrating to Jonathan how not to tear the book by opening it and "going to the middle" he opened it to the creased page and looked at the page number that he had creased earlier. At the end of the trick he never shows the stabbed page and just states the two page numbers. One additional thing I noticed is that Wes somehow put a page on the sword before he stabs, but due to editing cuts it is hard to see when. I used my dvr to freeze and step through frame by frame the stabbing part and it is very clear that the stabbed piece of paper is already on the sword and hidden behind Wes as he stands with his back to the camera. This I believe is to guarantee a page is actually stabbed, but he already knows what page number he will give and does not allow inspection/verification. And I agree with a coiple of comments that Wes would have given in or was about to give in, but Jonathan did that goofy boom boom bang thing. So it wasn't a force, but it was a break and peek. No index because one is not needed.

Can someone PM me even so much as a hint how he did it? He didn't force him to pick a certain page but he was aware of what page he picked. Still doesn't explain how he did the darn trick lol

520 isn't on the same page as 521. Odds are lower. Page 1 and 2, 3 and 4... Etc. the non-confirmation was key.
