that power & psych at the end was SICK. he has been climbing super strong and he is such a nice guy (and cute especially in person).

i feel bad for colin. the last few times ive seen him at the gym he was strong as always especially coordination but his shoes fucked him at teams and he clearly wasnt feeling it here... i love his face when he gets mad at himself. i react the same way when im being weak as fuck lol. that "you suck try harder" mindset

i agree with other commenters though some of these routes are just getting smellier and smellier πŸ’© like at some point it's just going to become a completely different sport than the gym climbing of the first 30 years

natalia fucking killing it too she looked so happy

I also thought Stasa's commentating was some of the best from anyone in years.

She's thoughtful, funny, analytical, and projects good vibes.

I far prefer to see her in the finals-- she's a machine at the moment, and has such a powerful style. But I'd love to see her back in the commentating box any time she doesn't make finals.

The women's final was better, in my opinion, then the men's. It's awesome to see Oriane doing her thing, breaking beta-- pushing it right to the limit.

And Janja... is just on a different planet altogether. Holy shit. She looks like she's stoned/so goddamn relaxed... and cruising. I can't wait to see what she can do on rock when she finally gets around to it more seriously.

Finally, setting: Agree with other posters. Not my favorite. Ultimately it worked from a spectator's/watching tension/capture the final climbers and present a winner/differentiation. But most of the moves that mattered just felt too circusy/parkour (I've always been a bit grumpy about that). I love a slab. And I love one or two coordination moves. One crack, cool. But I'd prefer it was more like 80% physically hard, high-tension moves, and 20% trickery. Right now it feels like it's the opposite.

That said, most of the competitors are training for today's setting... so I can totally understand that that's what they expect-- and probably want.

Unrelated, but does anybody else think that mens finals M1 was a really bad problem?

Man I loved the finals idk why so many are hating on it.

Things are far from all coordination now they've made it more interesting, to me. coordination dynos are just another move and they're not always the stopper-crux of the problem anymore (like M2). There's always going to be a coordination element in the comp (either accept it or stop watching and complaining, seriously its not going to change and there's no point in being so negative) but theyre requring more than just pure coordination, there's more power and commitment to it. M1 dyno needed some serious strength as well as timing. M3 dyno was super commiting because it was high up which i appreciated, as yeah it didn't need the most strength.

M2 was the necessary tricky slab which only the winner rightfully topped. M4 was just pure burl, and the difficulty of it led to the amazing momentd of both Nathaniel topping it and Adam winning the final with it.

It gets super exciting when its so close with a couple tops per boulder and this final hit that sweet spot for me.

Womens is always going to be trickier to be close because of the janja factor, but the fake crack was a brilliant joke from the setters, and the difficulty of the problems bred the amazing moments with oriane. It was brilliant and ill defend it endlessly
