the acca i'm not familiar with that acronym maybe some of the other members are okay um so let's get into uh today's speaking members this is a speaking and i rarely do speaking part one classes with you so i thought this time i do a speaking part one with you just so i can give you more attention and more feedback for this part of the test okay uh welcome rajvir all right um so let's just warm up many of you are familiar with the format of the speaking it's a 12 to 15 minute interview roughly uh composed of uh five six part one questions a longer part to cue card question and then about another five or so part three questions okay all right yeah i kind of thought it was some kind of certified chartered accountant i'm not sure what the first day is for the abhishek um all right so uh here we go everyone let's do this so you walk into your speaking interview we're going to do lots of practice today i'll give you lots of feedback today members so you walk into your speaking interview you feel confident you feel good about yourself and of course they will meet and greet you and then say may i see your identification i mean i see your identification while you answer that question i'll get you back on camera here okay and show fluency right away i've said this a thousand times and i'm sure i will say it a thousand times more show fluency and lexical resource and complex grammar right away right away okay so as soon as possible show that you are able to speak fluently okay all right carolina says yes of course here's my passport that i used to register for this exam very nice carolina nice grammar and again speak speak right this is a speaking everyone so speak and repeat okay speak and repeat all right kyber says yes here's my passport which i use for registration please have a look that's great abhishek says yes of course here's my passport which i used for registration for this exam please have a look yeah those are all great you're using your english you're showing fluency and that's exactly what you want to do so definitely here is my id that i used to register for the exam a few weeks ago please have a look okay so lots of different ways and i'm always trying to find a little bit of uniqueness that you might not have seen before okay so here's another way definitely here is my id that i used to register for the exam a few weeks ago please have a look okay repeat me repeat my intonation repeat my speed especially show that nice fluency now while they have your id or your passport they will ask you the next question what is your full name so they're looking at your id they're looking at you this is where you want to really kind of focus on your breathing as well rashika rajvir this is where you want to kind of just be like you know just take it calm remember to keep that inner peace with you throughout the interview that confidence you're there you paid for this you deserve to be there you are no worse than the examiner that you're speaking to hey the examiner might not know any other languages they might only know english right so who knows you're maybe even one step ahead by being multilingual okay so be confident you're smart you deserve to be confident okay uh nick hill says my full name is nick hill past please just call me nick hill okay nick hill good uh honey says my family name is minjal and my first name is honey please call me honey one of my favorite foods in the world by the way honey i love honey i've tasted honey from all over the world so it's a great name um all right very good okay and honey just one time okay one time everyone there's only members in the class right so uh my given names are uh [Music] muhammad ahmed and whoops i didn't mean to do that okay muhammad ahmed and my family name is zam zami please just call me moe for short okay so i'm going with an arabic name today uh repeat after me so what is your full name my given names are muhammad ahmed and my family name is zamzami please just call me mo for short all right mo is your passport back now for part one i will ask you a couple of questions to get to know you better and some questions on a general topic where do you work or go to school okay hi esra nice to see you in the class esther says my full name is esra dennis please call me ezra okay ezra welcome next question get on it rashika and ezra here we go where do you work or go to school it's a rare question it's location all right uh carolina says these days as a result of the elephant in the room the pandemic i'm working at home but on normal days i go to a 12-story building in downtown buenos aires i work on the eighth floor with my colleagues at a design company right carolina so you want to finish with where you're actually working what's the name of the place or at least what type of job it is right but otherwise killing it that's fantastic you remembered um almost verbatim the use of the idiom from my previous example elephant in the room comma the pandemic comma very good carolina good studying okay good studying well done all right so where do you work or go to school and it's probably a good idea to tell them your actual workplace not just say while i'm working from home because most of us do have an office even if it's a virtual office right so okay give me a nice answer for this one i'm gonna look at some more answers so i'm waiting for those while i type up mine okay and so um i work either from home or from my downtown studio and budapest it depends on both the tasks that i need to complete and my mood when i have a video shoot i go to my studio and on days where i'm feeling a bit lazier i stay at home and do editing on my computer in my study okay so lots of visualization visual language here's my response please speak and repeat members and viewers and then i'll look at some more responses from our members for this one as well so where do you work or go to school notice my use of complex grammar correlative conjunctions so here we go i work either from home or from my downtown studio in budapest it depends on both the tasks that i need to complete and my mood when i have a video shoot i go to my studio and on days where i'm feeling a bit lazier i stay at home and do editing on my computer in my study okay in this case my study study as the object of the sentence refers to the room my office okay all right so one more time let's do this nice and fluently so i work either from home or from my downtown studio in budapest it depends on both the tasks that i need to complete and my mood when i have a video shoot i go to my studio and on days where i'm feeling a bit lazier i stay at home and do editing on my computer and my study okay let's see what you have so i see lots of other uh great answers here by the members okay uh rashika says i've been working since last year in a uh skilled nursing and rehabilitation center the name of the place is life care center uh in richland washington okay rashika if you're actually there you're not that far from my hometown relatively speaking um abhishek says well i work as a senior technician sorry one more time abhishek well i work as a senior technical consultant in software web solutions which it is about 20k away from my apartment and it takes 30 minutes to get there however due to the covet 19 uh pandemic right now i'm working from home abhishek progressive i'm working from home you're doing this continuously okay rajvir says i've been working from home since march due to covet 19 prior to that i used to work in a 14 floor building in cyber city gorgon as a software engineer very good rajvir okay nice answer nice use of quantitative language i really like how a lot of you are paying attention now to that quantitative language it's very nice to see nick hill says well i go to poon university which is five miles from my home to pursue an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering i often go there five days a week with my bike however due to the pandemic these days i attend online lectures from home okay very good nick hill nice answer a couple of corrections there but overall not bad all right pay attention to the corrections and members lots of uh feedback in this class so definitely go back review this video and maybe write out the corrections that i make uh in the in the lecture and then also say them again okay it's very important and try to copy my speed and intonation so here we go next question what do you like about your workplace or school okay so the examiner with these first couple questions just kind of easy step by step all right so what do you like about your workplace or your school um vikas i think that's for the previous that's what fine i'm going to read vikka's because he's answering the previous question vikas says while i'm a software developer and due to the pandemic i'm working from home prior to that i worked at the it hub in mumbai which is uh called bkc and it's about five kilometers from my home okay sure so what do you like about your workplace or school in reference to my previous response i like that my work is quite dynamic at times i'm working quietly in my office while at other times i'm shooting a film an educational video and i'm interacting with collaborators and clients from around the world this keeps my work both interesting and enjoyable okay so here's my answer again uh just repeat after me so what do you like about your work or school reference to my previous response i like that my work is quite dynamic at times i'm working quietly in my office while at other times i'm shooting a film an educational video and i'm interacting with collaborators and clients from around the world this keeps my work both interesting and enjoyable okay so notice how i'm really emphasizing the target of the question the questions asking like about your workplace so i'm saying i like that it's quite dynamic then i explain it and then i emphasize again this keeps my work both interesting and enjoyable but i do pay attention that i don't repeat the word like again at the end rather i choose the word enjoyable so it's a good strategy to respond to the exact question in your first sentence and then once you're done explaining and maybe giving a smooth example then you reiterate the target of the question using synonyms and paraphrasing okay all right so carolina says i'm amazed by the view through my window the crystal lets the natural light come in it's really bright i can work comfortably so my eyes don't feel fatigued not only that but also the furniture the chair is ergonomic so i don't feel pain in my back okay carolina that's a great explanation a very visual i like it um i think you should also directly answer what you're saying so you should say i like that my workplace is extremely comfortable okay i mean you do say i can work comfortably so my eyes don't feel fatigued so it's kind of there i'd be a little bit maybe a little bit more direct with it but it's a good answer okay so you like that your workplace is very comfortable uh now this is probably not your home office or is it your home office you should explain that as well carolina so because remember for your previous answer you explained that you work both in an office on normal days and now you're working from home and i'd be curious to know which place you're actually talking about here in this case your downtown office or your home office okay because it could be either one all right um kyber says well i believe that my co-workers are friendly kyber you don't believe that they are they are okay if you believe they are that's what they are for you so just be more direct so well my co-workers are friendly and intelligent and uh can do tasks um that i used to do so i don't have pressure while i'm working as this is one of my favorite parts of my and this is my favorite part of working at my office okay kyber that's that's great if your country has no covet that's fantastic yeah so you don't have to say there's covet if there's no code obviously all right hi lubna okay rashika says the management group including the nursing director and administrative staff are very flexible we can arrange paid leave very quickly the day before informing them by telephone in emergency situations this is a big positive for me in my workplace so rashika it's a good answer use the question in your answer so this is a big positive for me or i really enjoy this flexibility at my uh clinic or at my at the hospital okay so be very very direct all right everyone fantastic so you'll notice i'm not reading everybody's response every time because then we'd still be moving fairly slowly but i will get to all of yours so honey keep going nick he'll keep going you notice that i'm switching uh to different people at different times um esra your workplace is a hospital so there should be lots that you can say okay esra uh the first uh point that comes to my mind of what i would enjoy i worked in a in a hospital during my university for half a year and then after university i worked actually in a children's hospital for a year doing developmental research and what i liked about my job working at those places ezra is i got to meet some patients on a daily basis have a conversation with them and talk about the positive parts of life and i really enjoyed it when i was able to bring a smile to their faces that made me happy when i saw that people who had different kinds of ailments and pains were able to socialize and i was able to bring some happiness into their lives that was extremely positive for me and enjoyable for me in those workplaces okay esra so at a hospital where you're helping people definitely some points there that you can say about what makes your workplace uh enjoyable okay helping people heal and get better and be happy okay um so let's get to this question here here we go let's talk about uh daily routines what is the first thing you do after you wake up all right so what is the first thing you do after you wake up kyber says i drink two glasses of crystal clear water uh from this i feel both fresh and happy and confident to do well in the exam i see that pop up that's one of our new videos by the way where you can practice uh members if you haven't seen this video that just popped up on the screen you can kind of see it in the corner there that i'll speaking check that out it's a great practice video that is on our youtube channel boom there it goes all right um so yeah definitely check that out okay all right yeah it's very healthy kyber to uh have a glass of water right after waking up i have made that my habit as well the bodies generally dehydrated throughout the night so very good and good on you for watching the video all right carolina says my first act after waking up is to have a shower in order to freshen up and start my day with a lot of energy it takes me around 30 minutes okay good i'm happy you liked the video carolina that's great yeah we're gonna have more of these practice style videos in combination with high band interviews coming out for sure over the next uh few weeks and months as well okay nick hill says when i get up at 6 30 a.m in the morning the first thing that comes to my mind is to read the online news on my phone and eat some bread while reading all right nikhil i like your quantitative language naming when you wake up okay all right esra says first i say good morning to myself and i wash my face and i make sift myself i'm not sure what that is ezra the tifte it's i'm guessing it's some kind of food or drink but yeah okay be positive yeah they say you know saying good morning to yourself even giving yourself a big hug in the morning um is just a positive way uh to start the day love yourself absolutely ezra good for you um rashika says the first thing i do after waking up is making my bed and drinking a glass of water um ladies and gents the taking tea instead of drinking tea it's very british which is okay but for most english speakers native english speakers around the world we drink coffee we drink tea we drink water okay carolina i really liked how you avoided the word thing so even though the question has thing okay um it's good to avoid that you don't want to use thing so much all right uh vica says well the first thing i do is greet my parents and then brush my teeth later on i help my mom with breakfast while she cooks and checks my mail regarding my work all right because don't go off topic um it's just asking what is the first thing you do after uh you wake up all right now here the examiner has introduced routine behaviors okay so let's talk about daily routines really pay attention to that because you can use that in your response all right okay so initially right after i roll out of bed around at around 7am i had straight to the bathroom gargle with luke warm water for about 30 seconds then floss and then i brush my teeth for two minutes with my brawn electric toothbrush this gets my pearly whites nice and clean and my mouth fresh and ready for breakfast all right um now you know what i do uh luke luke maybe luke how do you spell lukewarm i think it's like that maybe like that i don't know lukewarm lukewarm means kind of warm or it's like that luke no anyway that's luck i think it's like that anyway uh pearly that's just a missing a okay so there's my answer and uh let's just uh do a repetition here pearly i think it's because it's an idiom okay um here we go so uh just repeat after me uh what is the first thing you do after you wake up initially right after i roll out of bed at around 7 00 a.m i head straight to the bathroom gargle with luke warm water for about 30 seconds then floss and then i brush my teeth for two minutes with my bron electric toothbrush this gets my pearly whites nice and clean and my mouth fresh and ready for breakfast all right and that's actually what i do i find that it works really well uh rajvir says it's lukewarm without the okay all right one word you're saying we'll fix that without the yeah there it is you're right bargera thank you okay um and pearly white's is uh an expression that means teeth okay so thanks for the fix rajvir okay i never write that word um so pearly whites uh your teeth okay all right because they're white like a pearl okay all right notice the quantitative language uh what is the first thing you do initially initially means the first thing okay initially right after i roll out of bed around 7 a.m time expression we don't need to end the sentence there i head straight to the bathroom it means i go there gargle with lukewarm water gargle is like you put a little bit of water in your mouth and you go and then you spit it out okay gargling with lukewarm water supposedly very very healthy and then i floss i hope everybody else does too flossing is when you have that string um okay all right um and then um just a lot of detail here braun electric toothbrush we're not sponsored by braun but everybody gets the right idea okay all right um kyber says sir how many topics should each one practice each day toward their exam kyber it really depends on your schedule your fluency how much you've practiced but i mean if you have the time you know eight hours a day is a good is a good amount of time to practice eight to ten hours a day use english as much as possible and focus on your areas of weakness it's a very general question qyburn the answer is more specific to each person's abilities and needs and capacities okay all right here we go so uh next question okay next question is uh where do you usually go for lunch okay where do you wear again it's a where it's a location so where do you usually go for lunch give me a nice full sentence answer for this one members where do you usually go for lunch answer explain and perhaps an example would be nice as well okay a smooth flowing example carolina nice fluency i'm not sure if you're practicing your answers before the class if you are that's great okay if you're coming up with these as i ask them that's great too you're practicing your fluency well done you're coming quick out of the gates carolina says nowadays due to the pandemic i prepare my lunch at home but on normal weekdays i go to a nearby restaurant from my workplace i go to a restaurant near my workplace where they serve traditional lunch with vegetables salad and juice do you miss it carolina how much does it cost okay cost me around 10 pesos or however much it costs i kind of miss it because it's really healthy and i don't have to clean after okay so good carolina always aim for more and more fluency all right a little bit of grammatical correction there uh carolina and simplification also so i go to a restaurant near my workplace okay just simple simple lubna says often i pack my lunch from home but sometimes when i fall short of time me and my friends head to a nice classy restaurant and try some newer cuisines okay what did you eat there lubna the last time that you were there give me a nice smooth example nick hill says as usually let's just start with usually nikhil usually i like to eat homemade food for lunch on weekdays but on weekends i suppose two to three times a month with my family i go to have lunch at a nearby restaurant to try some cuisines due to the pandemic however i'm staying at home mostly okay yeah good um it's okay to mention the pandemic a couple times members but i definitely wouldn't keep hammering it throughout the entire interview i bet you examiners are kind of tired these days of hearing the pandemic as part of the response so if you just mention it once that's fine don't keep hammering it they might actually give you a better score because you're being more uh original and kind of refreshing for them everybody catch that so if i sat the alts exam tomorrow i would probably after mentioning the pandemic maybe once maximum twice i'd stay away from that even if it's a part of it and try to come up with different answers just to you know make it a little bit more novel make it a little bit more fresh for the examiner as well they might actually give you a half a band more just appreciating you for not hammering that topic okay all right let's see some more answers for this one we've got a lot of great ones really nice fluency now members i can tell that you're starting to pick up um your thinking in english okay all right uh rashika says these days i don't go outside for lunch because of this pandemic however before i frequently went to a japanese restaurant uh fujiyama not far from my house just 10 minutes away okay fujiyama [Music] i think it's fujiyama like fuji's store yeah or fuji mountain maybe okay paula hi paula who says well frequently i make my own breakfast in my kitchen but sundays i usually go to a typical restaurant near the beach uh it takes about 10 minutes to get there and what do you eat there paul and remember paul it's not breakfast it's lunch okay so make sure you don't say breakfast if the question is asking lunch all right okay brad javier says these days i often find myself having lunch at home due to the pandemic before march 2020. i used to visit emel cafe which is in the close vicinity of my workplace to have delicious north and south indian cuisines okay rajveer good so okay where do you usually go for lunch most often i have lunch in my kitchen i just make a sandwich or nachos and then eat it quickly standing up at the kitchen counter because i'm often short on time however i do have lunch meetings about four to five times a month on these occasions i go for lunch to the oriental soup kitchen which serves very delicious vietnamese foe i just had an awesome duck foe there uh last tuesday which of course is not true uh because of the pandemic uh most restaurants are still uh closed you can only order food but hey you know what i'm gonna try to stay away from the elephant in the room and just be a little bit more fluent and a little bit more versatile with my answers here we go so repeat after me where do you usually go for lunch most often i have lunch in my kitchen i just make a sandwich or nachos and then eat it quickly standing up at the kitchen counter because i'm often short on time however i do have lunch meetings about four to five times a month on these occasions i go for lunch uh at the oriental soup kitchen which serves very delicious vietnamese faux i just had an awesome duck faux there last tuesday all right if you've ever tried faux and for our vietnamese students i'm sure they have then they'll say yes really delicious okay all right next question here we go who are people that you meet with each week okay so here we go give me a nice answer for this one be original think outside the box don't just think about meeting people physically in person who are people that you meet who are the people that you meet with each week okay all right paula never apologize for your english just work on improving it fixing it but don't apologize it takes too much energy and time and there's no need to be sorry for your use of english okay all right ever never never it's no need okay kyber says well uh they are my co-workers at my workplace and my university peers or mates that i meet every week of course i hang out also with my brother and my parents who live in the united states through viber very good kyber using viber and thinking outside the box sunny mandal welcome to our group of members and there you are welcome aboard join in okay better late than never it's fantastic still got a few more questions for this class so make the most of it okay nick hill says well uh in weekdays i often meet my best friend at a cafe which is about two three minutes from my home uh chit chatting and having some fun playing mobile games together however these days i meet them virtually or through video chat very good nick hill very nice okay rashika says i usually meet my co-workers my clients and some um strangers okay at my workplace occasionally i meet my lankan friends who live in my city okay my shri oh sri lankan i see rashika sri lankan friends who live in my city i couldn't yeah sri lanka one word kind of you're autocorrect okay lubna says mostly they are my colleagues and my boss my co-workers are really nice people to work with while my boss is a little bit of a tough one to deal with okay lubna i hope that boss softens up a bit for you um all right so from around 8 a.m to 5 p.m through friday i meet with a lot of students clients and colleagues in my business and outside of work hours in the evenings and on weekends i hang out with my wife and my daughter as well as my friends these days we tend to meet up through group chat mostly using whatsapp and messenger okay all right so here is my answer here we go repeat after me who are the people that you meet with each week from around 8 a.m to 5 p.m monday through friday i meet with a lot of students clients and colleagues in my business and outside of my work hours in the evenings and on weekends i hang out with my wife and my daughter as well as my friends these days we tend to meet up through group chat mostly uh using whatsapp and messenger of course aside from my wife and my daughter they get to meet me face to face that would be a little bit extreme hopefully we don't get to that okay good uh let's see some more answers rajvir says i meet my colleagues from monday to friday and my friends during the weekends i usually use whatsapp to video call and zoom to communicate with my co-workers and my friends from the comfort of my home good very nice reg veer regime make sure you're working on pronunciation fluency your lexical resource your grammatical range accuracy it's really really on on par now make sure that you're just focusing a lot on being able to express yourself fast and with a nice accent nice clear accent okay all right paula says well uh there are the people in my neighborhood walking around the park at the office i usually meet co-workers and my clients and um some retailers that have a small fruit stand in front of the office okay paula i made a few corrections there make sure to check for those okay kyber you're definitely improving better fluency more accurate use of language i'm it's a lot clearer what you're expressing so good good work okay honey says well due to the elephant in the room the pandemic i meet my office colleagues through ms teams uh call on weekend and meet my family members on the weekend on whatsapp vika says well i meet with my friends on my weekends and make plans for movies or just hang out with them having lunch or dinner due to the current situation we meet more on whatsapp okay very good whatsapp is definitely collecting a lot of data these days i'm sure about people around the world okay uh well done let's keep going a little bit more here let's jump to this last question okay let's just do this one together here we go this one here if you let's do a conditional it's always nice to do a conditional for a last question if you could change one part of your daily routine what would it be and i'm curious about your answer here okay so um if you could change one part of your daily routine would that be all right what would that be okay so what would it be so here we go i'll give you give you an answer while you give yours and then we'll compare so given the upper opportunity to adjust my you okay here we go so let's see what you have is your answers okay uh paula very nice nice and fast so paula says definitely it would be the time going to bed because i never get to sleep early so uh i'm often feeling tired the next morning okay paula very good paula add some quantitative information when do you usually go to bed when would you like to go to bed why do you not go to bed a little bit earlier i used to have that problem too paul and then i just decided you know what i didn't finish this today it can wait till tomorrow and it's actually a good idea go to bed early i mean at the end of the day we're humans we need seven eight hours of sleep either way we look at it so it doesn't matter if it's from ten till six or from twelve till eight but it's better to go to bed earlier okay illumina says well um if i had to make changes to my routine i would definitely love to eliminate the time i spend on my smartphone and rather make more time for my daughters very nice lubna okay good answer you can do it you can do it lubna you've identified the situation now just do it put down that phone nick hill says if i had to choose one part of my daily chores to adjust i'd like to change my diet since i'm eating a lot lately and sitting in one place for five to six hours constantly and my weights increased by two kilograms so i want to um plan more yoga and some exercise and eat less food yeah nick hill just get on it okay when you're thinking hey i'm gonna go get a snack between breakfast and lunch instead of going for that snack do a couple of nice big yoga stretches left to right touch your toes and drink a glass of water nick hill often when we think we're hungry we're actually thirsty it's an interesting little fact many people think oh i'm so hungry but they're not actually hungry they're thirsty drink a glass of water and wait a minute and your hunger will go away and then do some stretches okay all right that's a tip i i do that okay i i do that i'm feeling hungry no i don't think i'm hungry i'm probably just thirsty some water yeah that was just thirsty okay um honey says that's a very interesting question give me a minute well if i want to change a part of my daily routine it would be uh reading new books uh like think like a monk and others in place of wasting time on social network feeds yeah honey that's a good idea you know one trick honey for that is get an e-reader like the kindle from amazon um and then instead of picking up your phone which has all that social media and all that all those distracting apps um just pick up your e-reader and then that's one of the advantages of e-readers is you're not distracted by other functions because e-readers just have books and that's what i have on my desk um so if i'm like okay i should be reading not tapping one app after the other then i just leave my phone on mute and i pick up my e-reader and there's only one thing i can do with my e-reader and that's read a book okay so restrict yourself okay it's very good all right because says given the chance to change my daily routine it would be my gaming habit which consumes my whole weekend and spend most of my time with family and friends because yeah the sooner you start doing less gaming the better and you know i used to game when i was uh younger because quite a bit in my teens and that and then i slowly stopped and now if i play a video game i rarely do but sometimes i do then i find like after an hour i just can't play anymore it just it can't it doesn't hold my attention and it's a good feeling it's a good feeling to be more dynamic yeah very good okay uh rajiv says given a chance to alter my daily schedule for one activity i would definitely get some more time to spend on exercise these days i'm just spending only 10 minutes doing cardio yeah roger they say you want to do at least 20 20 minutes right so i think spending about 30 minutes more will help me gain more strength yeah definitely it will cardio cardio right um okay sunny says well due to this pandemic i would love to change my time that i spend on my laptop and smartphone and spend more of my time with my family yeah sunny i think that's a very common one for a lot of us no exception on my end here we go repeat after me if you could change one part of your daily routine what would it be given the opportunity to adjust my regular everyday schedule i would like to allocate more time to spend with my daughter currently i spend an average of two hours with her per day but i would prefer doubling this and really teaching her more about life and missing less of those special moments which are fleeting as she matures fleeting means they disappear and they don't come back and for me it's partly because i really enjoy my work and i sometimes a bit of a workaholic and you know members i think know this about me that i do love my work and that is where i'm going to stop for this class but not to worry everyone watching uh in 30 minutes i will be back with a an original task two question that was requested by one of our students so look forward to that class again coming up in half an hour so don't go too far welcome our new members sunny thank you so much to all of our members for joining in today i hope you enjoyed this speaking part one class today i think i'll do a few more
