I Played Palworld - Is It As Good As They Say?

let's talk about power world let's give my first impression review and sort of what I think about the game now one of the first things you're going to hear about the game is that this is Pokemon with guns and that is because yep there is a handgun I have a desert ego that is correct and I can in fact throw what basically looks like a Pokemon now if just calling it Pokemon would not actually be doing Justice to the game itself because believe it or not in my opinion it is better than most of the newer Pokemon games now I'm going to break down what exactly this game is targeted to accomplish what games it is like as well as the problems with the game so let's get started the first one is going to be the most noticeable is it reminds me a lot of breath of the wild both because of the audio like when you pick up these statues it almost sounds like they just literally blatantly ripped off the audio for this for instance as well as some of the environments can sort of sound like Zelda they literally even have when you go into certain dungeons there'll be like a chest and the light will hit it and you'll go up to the chest it doesn't but you know everything else sort of looks like it so if you like breath of the wild that's actually one of the things I've noticed it is very much like now obviously it is sort of like Pokémon because there are balls that you put these creatures in and you capture them by throwing these pokeballs at the people uh and you have to get them lower HP increase your capture rate so basically your knowledge will transfer from Pokemon and it will transfer from breath of the wild the reason I say your knowledge would transfer is there are very similar mechanics in the game for instance if you go here and you're climbing some you see there's a stamina bar and you can actually increase your stamina by going to enhance St when you level up Etc however the game is also like Arc survival but not as difficult to understand so if you've played survival games there are survival elements in that there are Hunger so you do have to feed yourself as well as your companions but the food is never really been a major issue you seem to get food at a decent rate you can literally just pick berries off the ground and eat them and yes it does expire over time if you actually look at this here you'll see there are time slots to how long long these berries will last before they expire but honestly in most survival games dealing with your food and your cold and your heat and all that really just pisses me off whereas in this game it's actually not really an issue now there is a code and heat indicator as well which it shows up on your bottom left there you can see right here that I have a code and I have a heat indicator and you can wear equipment depending on where you're at so I have some clothes that will make it where I am not as cold for instance at night and at at certain places like if you go the ice wind Island for instance where we were really starting this is my server and yes it is multiplayer or single player your pick you can even have a dedicated server um this is where it gets cold at night so I had to have some sort of warmer equipment now that is sort of the fundamental mechanics heat food and HP these are the things that are effectively going to keep you alive now I did say it was sort of like a survival game and this is where it reminds me a bit of Arc there's a technology tree as you level and you level by basically doing anything everything from cutting wood to mining to collecting Pokemon which really seems a big one and you get a huge boost of experience for the first 10 Pokemon you catch of each type and you can actually later in the game crunch those Pokemon up to make them like Star them up and rank them up almost like a gsha system for instance and you can see there's all kinds of things to unlock everything from Cosmetics to actual functional things to chest to store stuff to cooking pots to cook better types of food to more efficient equipment and even you'll notice there are items here for your Pokémon or house as they're called in the game different items will allow your creatures to do different things all the way up until you get for instance like sadow even and I'm not extremely far in the game but I have enough where I can even fly so check that out that is pretty cool this game is absolutely gorgeous so if you're wondering from the beginning can I ride Pokemon can my Pokemon themselves have guns uh can I craft things can I build a base basically the answer to all of those things is yes it and you can probably do even more in it than you were originally expecting now when it comes to catching your actual creatures it sort of looks like this they have a HP bar you're going to lower the HP bar and then you're going to throw basically a Pokeball at it of which I am out of them at the moment one second here and this is actually a great example of the multiplayer I was walking here uh one of the guys in my guild you can have a guild of up to 20 people as a matter of fact and then you can actually like do raids against other people that in other guilds Etc um but they I asked d man I was like hey you got any you know palir or pokeballs basically he's like yeah here you go and then hands me some of those so you can even trade with people there's social interactions you can do in the game Etc but let's go back so like here we go so here you got a Pokemon right and now he has very low HP you can see the capture rate's 100 and even if I hit him from behind I'll get a bonus for the capture rate too for doing like a backstab technique with it you capture you get some experience on the right there and you can see I have seven out of 10 so when I hit 10 I'll get get some bonus XP and then all of the Poke pows or Pals or whatever you want to call them here in my party are also going to be giving you a significant amount of experience for the captures as well you can see there's all kinds of Secrets around like look this water looks gorgeous but on top of it if I go over here there is it looks like a chest no one's seen yet so I need a copper key don't have a copper key and I can find the copper key in the chest that unlocked and then there's a journal too which is sort of like the story journals explains the world and what's going on as well now I I'll talk about a couple of the things you might notice every now and then you might notice a little glitching a little rubber banding I think this is the server basically um I'm using a dedicated server and honestly I've had only one crash in my entire time playing the game I think I've got about 15 hours into the game or so and I've only crashed one time I don't experience many bugs sometimes the pokeon or the PS can be a little bit glitchy where they kind of bounce around it is an early access but for the most part everything just works and to be honest all of the visuals there's not a lot of clipping or anything really going on all of these uh you know pal there they have their own animations too for whenever they're actually doing an activity because you can build a base and I'll show you that in just a second you can build a base and then they can start carrying stuff in your base Etc I just really want to emphasize that the things you're seeing in the world you can actually go to so it's like Elden ring where when you see things you can go there that mountain you can go there you see here's another chest okay you see that Tower over there that right there not only can you go to but I've actually already been there that is sort of what they call E syndicate to and it has an instant boss there are dungeons in this game in fact I'll show you also just because I'm having to do this to get to the dungeon you see this right here this Mark that is a fast travel Mark I'm trying to get to you can find these fast travel portal sort of like Zelda so what I'm going to do is I'm going to walk over there get the portal so way I can teleport to a dungeon and show you how that works but also you can see on the the uh the map here these different locations have these bosses you can discover which is sort of like the Giga pal or Giga Pokémon from that area so I'm going to walk by the mammoth rest and show you that as well this is perfect it says there's a raid also your bases can literally be raided and you can have a ton of dudes show up and start attacking your base so I'm nowhere near the base but if I can get there in time I'll show you that as well this is perfect they're attacking the home base this is a Teleport right there you can see somebody was building a base over there as well you can actually build bases around here and if you don't log in for a week basically your base gets removed if you're on a server that has that setting on I'm going to fast travel back to home base you're about to see a whole bunch of stuff here cuz this is our home base in which you're going to see there's a lot of Pals around here and we got a whole crew here building out the base there's everything pow condensers there's incubators you can put eggs in to hatch you can see I'm slowly hatching some eggs in here Etc so there's even more to explain to you in just a moment but this is where it is saying we are getting raided which is why we have walls to help us stop getting raided let me go out the front door here and we're going to see exactly what this raid looks like go right out the front door here open and oh open see this is what I'm talking about can be a little glitchy sometimes that's about the biggest glitch to it and then you can see here yep here come here comes the raid there is some Big Boys these are relaxasaurus which are actually one of my favorite Pals in the game in general and there they go they're attacking the base he's level 28 uh these are actually these are actually some pretty strong dudes I'm not going to lie they're they're a little bit beyond what we have so what I can do is I can need to pull my handgun which I have limited ammo and I had to build this thing it took us like an hour to build this thing you can't just get a gun right at the start you actually start with basically a club but just like that you can send your you can send and command your guys out to attack I can take him and I can throw him at him over there or I could even ride the guy himself I could ride them and then I can use the attacks that he himself has you can see the D Man there next to me has one as well and they have their own attacks Etc so there there's just there's a lot okay there's a lot to this game which is what is surprising to me cuz I thought I was going to l in it was going to be a janky Early Access these guys are you can see the AI sometimes you get an occasional AI issue where it's like they're trying to attack the base but they don't know how to get in there so they're just kind of running away oh also there's basically the Team Rocket which are these Syndicate thugs there's the mammoth that I was telling you about earlier and these Syndicate thugs are all trying to attack the mammoth now what I could do is I could let The Syndicate thugs basically sit there and attack this Mammoth and I could try to claim the mammoth which is probably what I'm going to try to do here and if I can get the mammoth that would be a huge upgrade for me I don't have anything that that's that strong left and you can see he's got like a little horn icon next to him next to his name there they have a gender there and then they also have the boss icon which means it's a boss variant if you actually look at your uh party here this guy right here you can see he has one as well he's a boss version I got him right here it's this Nightwing that was able to capture so that's a boss variant of him as well so you I have a special move like this which I can throw it out and I can Dash and attack so you have multiple moves for your mounted style guys here and uh what we're going to try to do here is let's see if we can actually get this ra oh one of our guys has a one of the mammoths already I didn't realize we Advanced that far and then just like this this is just something we stumbled upon the world so I haven't got one of these yet you can see the capture rates at 0.13% okay oh no he's targeting me because we got to get him lower HP so we can lower the HP like this and then we can try to capture him and this is a good example of trying to get one of the bosses down at least man someone is doing a lot of damage looks like some players have been while I was sleeping they were busy leveling up see he's attacking him from up there I mean everything works like at a level that you kind of wouldn't expect to be quite honest with you which is pretty encouraging what's the capture rate here 0.3% so that's still pretty low uh let me try to throw at anyway let's give it a shot so there you go capture rate got the bonus for hitting him from the back 5% okay still pretty low going to go ahead and do some more damage going to try to capture him you can hit him with element so he's on fire now I'm going to try capturing him again here 7% rate maybe nope not yet just keep lowering his HP we don't want to kill him oh someone's trying to capture him there maybe he'll get him nope he didn't get him it's my turn I'm going to take a shot at him M oh my ball went flying someone else tried to get him okay my turn see if I can get him here at this point we're all just trying to get him he's a highle guy so this is more difficult than you know obviously the other ones where you can just oh wait hold we got 30% chance here wait let's go and just like that we got ourselves a brand new guy and now if you're wondering where he's at and why he's not in my inventory I got to run back and go get him back at the base I'll show you so now I'm back at the base here I can go to the pow management box and you can see I've got a whole bunch of them here and there he is right there I can trade them out for somebody that I'm not interested in using at the moment let's say her so it trade them out I got him there you're also going to notice at the bottom of this management menu this is sort of like our base our main headquarters you're going to notice that there's all these guys working each of them have something different so you need miners which is basically this Bowser looking fella he's mining away at the stone you have the more Forest type of creatures which harvest the wood for you and they'll actually carry the wood back and forth the dudes uh will actually carry the stuff that's being harvested and put it away in the boxes you notice people are working there you got people that create wool that are in the ranches you can build and you have people that water that water the plants and look at the names some of these guys depresso this is where we start getting into he just drag stuff unenthusiastically this is where we start getting into the part that you might seem MD upon or it being somewhat controversial this game is a little controversial you can use your your pokus ofir here and not only use them on creatures but you literally those Syndicate thugs I showed you earlier you can capture them and use them sort of as slave labor there's also a butcher me Cleaver and you can butcher up your poke Pals and actually eat them um to dispose of them as well as get a food source Etc so the game is is very in- depth you can also enhance your player stats you go out and you capture these Effigies which is which you find throughout the map and you can use that to upgrade your capture power make you better at capturing you can also choose to upgrade with uh these pal Souls you find around the map you can choose to use these to upgrade uh different points based upon which person you happen to like the best here the the game is indepth but everything works pretty much like you would expect it to work honestly it's really not that complicated to get into you can play it single player and have a good time I think it's the best played with a couple friends maybe not a huge server but a couple friends is sort of a great experience overall uh for an early access game that you know kind of seems like a mix of basically breath of the wild uh Pokémon as well as Ark survival they nailed it you see a little bit of buggy stuff like every now and then you see some rubber banding or there will be some pathing issues that's about as far as the bugs go that I have experienced I even want to show you a dungeon I was going to show you one second now it's sort of dark but the dungeon's right here so what I could do is I could build I could get wood for instance I could build a primitive workbench so I could go here I could pull out my axe I get ourselves a couple pieces of wood I can build a primitive workbench and use that to build I'm just showing you sort of how the crafting side of this works real quick I can then use that that's how you sort of start the game you start by building a crafting bench and then you kind of Advance your technology from there and you can see handheld torch I just need a couple Stones so I could run around and pick up Stone off the ground or I could find a big Stone deposit and grab stone that way so now I have some ston so I can go here I can make a handheld torch and this is sort of how the production Works side of it I can start building it but also if I didn't want to build it myself I can take one of the the pals here and assign him to the bench and he can craft that and then I can go like fight these guys or go gather more resources or do what I want so this is kind of where it gets like super interesting you you can assign people to do different things each person sort of has their own thing they're doing it says he's produced you know he produced a handheld torch there there's the torch I can acquire the torch now so now I have the torch I can take that put that in my inventory let's say instead of the crossbow or something and now I can see that and then if you go over here there is the dungeon and it says level 13 dungeon if I enter the dungeon there will be a loading screen with an instance and when we go into the dungeon there's going to be different types of Pals we can get there's going to be different types of and resources in which we can mine and acquire there will be a boss at the end of it and there will be some chests to get and the chest will have like schematics of more technology we get that's how I got the handgun is I got it through that type of mostic uh schematic and you can see here this is sort of where it is there'll be you know Ghost Pokemon or whatever you say in here that's right there's different typing of it you can see he's got a typing there next to the level 9 and I could try to capture him which he's only going to spawn of these and you know the environment no matter where you go is actually pretty good I mean I I personally I think it's it's quite good and you can go through here there might be some syndicates in here there'll be a big area there will be a you know a boss fight at the end which more times than not is just sort of a souped up version of one of the pals I'm sure there'll add probably some more bosses or something uh towards you know when the game gets more uh further developed it's early access I really like using the Early Access as an excuse for things for bugs maybe but in terms of uh you know how I feel about the game its direction and that is one other thing to mention is that I have seen there seems to be some conversation around you know the games developers have dropped previous projects there's some nft talk about some of the previous projects this game doesn't have any of that in it just so you know but there is some controversy around the previous things I don't know too much about it I didn't look into it it's pretty much as simple as I heard about this game everyone seems to be asking me about it I downloaded and started playing it and I was like wow this game is super fun here's sort of the tree at the end there's more places to discover but I sort of Boss rushed right to the end here I'll throw out my strong strongest pal here Adam and then used G him gigachad asaurus to finish him out there he's got an AOE and I could pull out my handgun for instance pow 836 to the Dome cuz we're a little bit overleveled for this area and the Hand gun's a little too strong for this probably but just like that there we go and dungeon clear yeah you can see there's a little couple glitches with the corpses sometimes that's about as far as I've gotten with the bugs and then we go over here and there's a chest reward at the end of it so a little bit of a speed run through this one not all the dungeons are 100% the same but it seems like a couple of the ones around here sort of are and you can see that an attack pendant crossbow schematic you can see like I was saying there's different schematics so I could discard for instance these Berry seeds wheat seeds that we don't need I could pick up the crossbow schematic just like that and now we have a recipe for a better crossbow and uh we got I'm not sure what the other schematic was we got something else here I think a handgun schematic or tropical schematic I'm not sure I'll have to oh an attack pendant that's what it said I got yep there it is okay and that's it and then after that leave the dungeon and I move on with my life so here's what I would say if you're wondering about if you should get the game or not if you like Pokemon if you like the simple OG designs of the Pokemon if you like breath of the wild or Ark survival or like valheim like these types of survival games you'll probably like this one it is an early access there's a few bugs you saw already on the screen but to be honest everything works a lot better than I was thinking it was going to be I thought this was going to be sort of a janky Pokemon ripoff and while it is sort of you know a blatant Pokemon Zelda you know Arc sort of ripoff these types of games they do it in their own way that's so well that you don't really think of that the whole time you're just like this is awesome like I wish we had more of these style games it's very well done there's a lot to do there's instance bosses and tutorials and all kinds of stuff I haven't even showed you in this video but this is sort of my first impression and review of the game I would give this like a like a nine out of 10 and I mean there's a point taken for the bugs and because there probably needs to be more content at some point but like I I guarantee you I could get a minimum of 100 Out hours out of this and I haven't even mentioned the price yet which is uh I believe $26.99 right now and I
