How We've ALWAYS Mispronounced Pokemon! | Gnoggin X Bird Keeper Toby

hey it's the show where we do things this fire keeper Toby hey Pokemon monsters all the way from the UK specifically for this video for this one thing that we hadn't planned none of the other things that we've done so far uh so this is just a casual sort of video yeah I'll probably tell I've bought my britishness with me to America because we're not from the same country people might not know they might not know that I don't know but I'm bringing my britishness and the way that I think a lot of people maybe assume when they watch videos where I'm in or even on your channel where I'm in and I'll say the name of a Pokemon and they'll go oh yeah he's just he says it like that wrongly because he's British but it's not it's just because I mispronounced Pokemon names all the time I mispronounce Pokemon names all the time do you get a lot of that comments um especially as a kid yes as a kid I was the worst because I never watched the anime until way later so as a kid I had only read the names but even even in the show they get it wrong sometimes like Mantine Mantine that's a whole debate that goes on so what I've prepared for you today and what you've prepared as well yeah are lists of Pokemon names that we think either we know we get wrong or that we think I assume that you might yeah the other might get wrong so we're just gonna go through that list and see just talk about our Journeys through Pokemon mispronunciation oh yeah and of course I'm sure you're gonna hate us all by the end of the video but you must have Pokemon names that you mispronounce figure out how to like type those fancy letters to make sure you get your pronunciation across yes yeah do it symbols with like write it how you pronounce it okay so do you want to go first or shall I do because I have the best story about this go for it the Pokemon I always pronounced the absolute worst as a kid whereas Rayquaza okay or Rayquaza both of them no that's a debatable Quasar but as a kid I always pronounced it rakazaya oh no rexane roxaya and so you're asking you know hey is anyone gonna wreck Zaya to trade or Pokemon emeralds just come out it's got rag desire on the boat I'm so excited Pokemon Emerald has Rax Zaya oh no and you can imagine that no one wanted to trade with you or talk to you as a result yeah oh my goodness I think for me the big one was uh suiku or no riko because I used to pronounce it right here [Music] [Music] wrong like Entei or anti I think I always got anti-right yeah um suicune was like the big one that I think loads of people like when they talk about Pokemon pronuncations like I see with sin yeah I've heard suicide before suicide like it's not that's too close to Suicide oh great it just got the video demonetized yeah yeah right there how do you pronounce the uh most recent Pokemon the Electric furry uh zero Aura zero Aura zero zero zeror zero zoror I see Zara Ora zero aura I always say Zora zaora okay cool because I have no idea how that one's done it's not even out yet so we can't even really verify with anything other than it looks like it looks like but I kind of Zora that kind of makes sense because Aura I guess I don't know it kind of has a Lucario Vibe it does it does you know I think it's like it's the cat to Lucario's dog I like that I like that that makes sense and it's kind of like buttons are a walk bye yeah but say goodbye to Zoroark um okay I have one how do you pronounce Ultra Beast that was introduced in Ultra sun and Ultra Moon that is the clown the clown yeah blasphalon or blasphalon oh blasphemian no how does this how does it spell I've been told by Joe of Joe American serebii.net but it's blycephaloncephalon oh I was putting the pH in the wrong spot yeah yeah but it's such a weird name that's how raxia came about uh you know just this dyslexia kind of gets here and you're just starting as well yeah me too that's good so is Josh yeah my main editor hey and we have the worst scripts and this is why you think all pokertubers just can't pronounce Pokemon names and it's so infuriating like suddenly there's this fictional word that like it's spelled weird because it's a combination of other words so like your mind just wants to put letters letters where they shouldn't go um and it's also I find that a lot of my list is Pokemon that would go much later in the Pokedex like the Pokemon that obviously I've had more time around like I don't think I would have done one Pokemon here I think the furthest back that I could go with any kind of mispronunciation is maybe uh toji kiss it's good it's a hard G but it's not tojicus um because people wait it's not tojapy is it and I felt like such an idiot so you always got Ekans wrong oh no no I didn't this is such a misconception right ah I was once in a Skype call with Pokemon Insider and we I said I was listening off Pokemon and Pokedex orders it orders and I got to Atkins and for no reason I said ecans as like uh I was saying it in a funky way and this is taken off into this was this was a go why are you bringing this up now this shouldn't be in the circuit of information so like I didn't even know what it was from all I remember is Toby pronounces Ekans wrong I don't I don't I know how to say Atkins it's just I said it weird and that you know and I apologize but it was too late it was done I've been branded ecans you can't welcome to Britain where we have e-cons and crumpets not at the same time obviously how did you always pronounce uh because of all the Gen 1 Pokemon the hardest one is Gyarados Gyarados did you ever pronounce it wrong before I don't think so although I think a lot of people pronounce it with like a Yara Gyarados uh but no I think I just always pronounce it Gyarados I don't think I've had many issues with Gen 1 Pokemon I'm sure I mean I'm sure I must have done but it's so far back then in my memory you know I discovered I had a problem with pronouncing Pokemon came about when I and I still can't say it the Pokemon that evolves from Muna from gem5 mushroom I think I said mashana and people if she's if I saw the word I could probably hang on um let me while you're doing that though um there's of course your recent uh dragon [Music] I can't even pronounce that dragon druidigon is that it is druidigon or gone I I've never made drug a dog drugged on I think I call it drug addiction or something drug Eaton hey more demonetization great uh see I can't even spell it I've spelled it m-a-r-s-h-r-u-n-a and of course that's not the name of a Pokemon but nothing's coming so I'm just going to type in Munna and then find the evolution to it because I don't know how to spell it yeah that's always been one of the Pokemon that's easy to forget also yeah uh hang on we've got uh it's musharna musharna baby I mean how long has that existed over a decade nearly a decade yeah but like it's still kind of forgettable looking it it is um no I'm not gonna remember that mushroom okay yeah mushrooms what are the root words um if you scroll all the way down oh right at the bottom go up a little bit uh it comes from that new meaning dream and Luna but it's not called maluna no it's not okay right we're done well anyway that's that Focus that's when I knew I had a problem um oh so the very first time I saw Totodile I thought Tata Deli toddelli I think have you heard that before I think I might have done that gold and silver were my first games yeah um and like at the time I had no idea what Pokemon was besides I knew my friends were playing it so I got it yeah Tada Dilly was cute so I got that one totally deadly no I didn't realize that you know it's a taught crocodile so like I didn't understand the root words because I'm sure six so you know it's weird because you've said that I didn't think I had any problems with those pronunciations but you said that and it's hit me with a weird Nostalgia wave toddler deadly I think I said that a lot I think I must have done yeah Tony Julie's the best starter of all of them oh yeah no uh um I like Torchic a lot I'm a big fan of torture anyway you can't but you can't beat Todd Dilly can't beat a ton of Dilly what about the uh the Kung Fu Stokes the wall the Kung Fu stoats I'm trying to say it in a way so you don't like Kung Fu stoves like weasels that know Kung Fu oh I was gonna ask you about this um me and Foo yeah so like I was in the middle of recording the fighting type video and I got to those Pokemon and I just stared at the name for like a minute realized I have absolutely no idea didn't you say it like mine food there's like me and so so I ran out of the recording room onto my computer I just started looking up how other people pronounce it I couldn't find a conclusive answer okay because even like the anime the um root words the Pokedex app on 3DS like there's just several different there's just no that's like akius and osseus that's a whole other thing that was one other one I wanted to mention all right um but it's like the animal is called a mine okay so it's mine not Mian or mean mine mine food and mine okay and if you wanted to be proper it's mine ciao mine ciao because it's Mandarin word and Mandarin is like a lot of the back of the Frog mind shall that's totally in Pokemon that's gotta be a mine shawl Smash Bros has entered the Battle Ring uh speaking of Arceus um yes I think that's the only Pokemon that's had an official pronunciation and then changed well I'm gonna go with no well no because mankind as well mankind it used to be Mount time now it's pronounced Mantine and I thought time because Brian but the argument goes the team because uh of the word but Mantine is apparently the proper one but I refuse to pronounce it that way I just remember I expected the anime and stuff would always say Arceus and then like arse is too close to ours right in the UK well no I think it is Arceus because Archangel yeah it's it's the root words are Arc meaning Archangel and Deus which is Latin for God yeah that makes sense also in alchemy there's a thing called the Arceus oh and it's pronounced you know it's like the holy boundary between realities there's a episode of the TV show house warehouse says something to the effect of uh or prey to Arceus and then everyone in this episode is like what are you talking about he's like yeah look it up and he's referring to Pokemon but if he says Arceus it's that that has to be it's got to be true it's Canon now uh okay what do I want to jump you away okay what is the the hmm okay the ultra beast from again performance that evolves from people yeah it's pretty close I think it's not gonna doubt but nagadao I could take that I could actually have that one written down for you yeah it said it's these you know I think because they're alien Pokemon they come with these weird names different combinations of letters well again for me it was just like it looking at the word it's nagana Dell but unless I'm looking at the word I always want to say like in my memory I just removed like two or three letters from it sure I don't know why okay that's a common one actually for the trio uh from Unova the dragon trio no no no no no The evolutionary line no no it has one head two heads three heads oh uh dino zavalis and hydeligen hydrigen it's German I mean I get you but isn't it hydragon uh it is high Dragon okay you just did a whole other funky thing with your mouth button like because like you know the English translation hi Dragon but like the root words is it comes from German which is to die okay so hydrogen do you wanna that's that's getting like more into root words as opposed to specialist stuff as opposed to official pronunciation oh yeah because you know the official ones always have to be oh you gotta take the all the English speakers into consideration for the English versions English kids don't know how to say yeah and that's the market okay cabelian or Kobe lion which is yeah totally totally and then Parisian okay Verizon can you hear me now Verizon that's all I think of when I see it at Verizon what about troublesh's Evolution but which one do you think is more official probably garboda but I say gabrador I always say garbadour also yeah but we're probably wrong if you have a feeling garbota is probably the right one okay um oh I'm not actually sure if this is right or not because I just this particular Pokemon I always say really fast okay but for you uh the pre-evolution of medicham uh meditite meditate yeah of course what else would it be I always say meditate why are you making it unnecessary the way I've always said it meditate meditate meditate I like it's a small and meditate meditate meditate metadatite meditate down adding a d that doesn't exist I'm just I'm I'm doing a hard T which is a d no it's not a different letters welcome to the English language okay I'm gonna just I wanna quickfire you on this right on on this list here and I want you to just say these names and I'm going to say them Mr drevis is how I would say actually a lot of these are the ones I would get wrong oh mysterious misdreavus duskanoir dusk Noir dusk yeah uh Superior Superior okay cool wait do it again Superior Superior so I I always just do different enunciation I always lean too much into just saying Superior yeah but but it's just like what's the difference is it just so period I think you were just putting different emphasis on different letters oh yeah she has a different accents uh um I always say for some reason mintino and chinchina I've heard that one for no reason because there is not a CH there it doesn't exist uh okay uh swapper yeah it's a pupa that spews yeah that makes total sense that's my least favorite sorry give me a moment here yeah it's an ugly looking box my number one least favorite vomitable abominable crab it's a crab [Music] that's another one that I always say really that could be a good tongue twister though you can crap an abominable crab crab I don't know that should take that to school it's a tongue twister there you go um this is like my favorite Pokemon as well um one of them glitter pod glycerol yeah it is yeah um but galicipond or Galicia Pond I mean a lot of these is like if you just look at the word and you didn't know the root words it looks like it would be golisopod yeah or glisio Bliss so popular or togonomaru together Mario hasn't been translated at all like it's it's the same in Japan oh okay umaru and I have no idea proper or not but I mean that sounds good that sounds good we've already or even or even took it amarodu you've rolled the r a little bit uh okay yes okay nearly as much okay um we've already done that one now I say incorrectly a low Lamona but it's not it's a mola right that's one of those Pokemon that like I don't know I know it's something along the way it's the palindrome if you have the name the other way around it smells the same it's one of the few palindrome names uh so I guess that makes sense because like you flip it around and it's the same yeah I think that's a palindrome right um you spelled it so wrong I just thought it but that's just because of my dyslexic typing that's got nothing to do with the pronunciation so yeah it's so it's a calendar is it a palindrome it's the same back to front but it's not upside down like so what's it called when it's the same upside that like swims if you literally flip the word up for now if you still spell swims okay that's not hunger okay yeah uh alola Mola Ponyo [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] even though it's a bishop it's not a bishop wait it is a bishop it is a bishop that's the point is it not Bishop or is it like but it's also by sharp because it's got two blades he's got two hands oh given that he should have two blades like that's not like I don't know about that one actually okay bishop or Bishop both of them work but I'm pioneered or how did you say it pawnyard Pony yard I mean maybe I'm wrong I don't know you're putting a different inflection on difference I think so um gotta wait for it yeah because he's a bishop yeah Bishop Bishop it's a sharp Bishop I found that this guy's been wrong before though I already oh well there you go then we tried we tried like he's right 99 of the time okay he has like two or three Pokemon he's done wrong like there's because there are official pronunciations have you got uh any more for me that you wanna see um did that one oh uh the pre-evolution of hariyama makuhita makuhita I always pronounce it yeah and now it definitely demonetized I'm just adding two letters yeah and I don't I have no idea why but like I see the Pokemon marcusita I have no idea why I do that it's just the way I always I really like that Pokemon when moving stuff I first came out I'm not fast anymore but when it first came out I just loved that Pokemon um oh the evolution of whirlippy uh I knew you can do this um Scolipede skolipede but I think I would have called it celosiope before so like Josh and I both have the issue of just adding a syllable a whole syllable to it we always go school isoped school isopedics yeah that's the kind of stuff that I do and I think I think I think there's no one watching who would be able to say that they don't also mispronounce mispronounce mispronounce mice pronounce mice pronounce it's because I'm British names in the Pokemon world should I just do the rest of the video in a British accent go for it let's see if we know just your default accent this is yeah I've been putting on a more casual accent for my videos this is how I actually speak oh yeah God Save the Queen let's go all right um the two aliens oh l l i can't do it in the accent elgie M and b-e-m love lgmob yeah lgm lgm yeah um stupid Barnacles uh um so forgettable um but it's just like barnacle and Barbara well that's Bionicle and Barbara Bionicle Bionicle because you buy it there's two of them yeah this is the same deal like I know I know that that's the right one it's Bionicle not Pinnacle yeah but I just feel like they they're they're terrible Pokemon they deserve to be thrown in the bin right so binacle binnacle I like it it's a nice little pun let's go with that um in the bin the blue gen six giant crab oh clotizer say that again clortizer clotizer I've literally just filmed a bit of audio with that Pokemon so if I need to change that let me know now let's call it sir go with sir because it's how it's all right you're so right German Cannon those giant cannons I'm just one second I'm just gonna make it you just recorded something with that yeah I just did uh re film adding a tourist to-do list claw it sir it's uh or it could be client sir audio how did you pronounce it again claw Tizer it's not cloth it's definitely not no I think you're right I still might be mispronouncing it but I know you're mispronouncing it oh I get some I get crazy I get a lot of comments and the great thing about doing a series like I am at the moment where I am going through almost every Pokemon is there's a good handful I'm getting wrong and the amount of comments you know yeah it's all good go on let's hear it um not tyrantom or tyrantum but the other dinosaur from that gen oh Aurora and Amorous oh cool you got it right yeah easy I always have the hardest time oh what would you say like I start the word and I just wanna and then you decide nah yeah different Pokemon Aurora Aurora and Amorous yeah I always have the hardest time with those two okay interesting um the Y Pokemon E Vault evil tall yeah because it's like evil but it's just gotta go away what about uh you pedal no uh because for me like it's the old English spelling of evil so you know evil is that how it would have been spelled in Old English yeah I didn't know um and then it's also based on a wyvern and a quetzel yeah so okay so people told or you pedal people I'm probably wrong I'm still feeling very comfortable with eval at all but evil Health yeah evil tall it's a total evil thing it's all evil it's all evil uh if only all Pokemon could be named that way um the second popplio uh brione Brion uh brioche uh Brian you can go and look at it um Brian uh Brian Brian because it's Brian I want to see I want to say briony but I know that's probably wrong because it's like it is actually brine I think it's brione brione I'm not positive on that but I think it's Brianne yeah yeah sure I don't care I don't care enough as one of those very figurative Pokemon because it's a starter yeah uh all right now that was the last one on my list okay what is the worst way you could think of pronouncing Pikachu oh man um Pikachu Pikachu uh Pikachu pikachow um which is like how it sounds when it's eaten good job um uh pikachow I think would be the weirdest way I could possibly say it um I've got one actually no I have one more um How do you this oh come on man all right so it's that's always it actually is controversial yeah how do you pronounce this Pokemon well there's because you have to take the Japanese name into consideration okay because like it is a Japanese name like Japan is just a name right but then like when they brought it to the West they sort of like westernized it a little bit okay uh yeah Yoshi or Yoshi you got a clear choice to make here buddy and it's Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi nah that's not who he says when he's in Smash Bros Yoshi that's a great one to end that's uh yeah no that's my favorite messing with me Jenny cool well I think that's a great way to wrap up this video just a fun little casual
