Today on The Stay At Home Chef I'm showing you how to make the best homemade sloppy joes. Skip that canned stuff and try this one. It's totally easy and totally delicious. Heat a heavy skillet over medium-high heat and add in 1 pound of ground beef and get it cooking. Use a spatula to break it up a bit and add in 1 diced onion. Saute this for about 5 minute. I'm using a nice lean ground beef for this because I feel like it works better for sloppy joes. Keep on cooking until that ground beef is nice and browned. Once the meat is browned drain off the excess fat and liquid. Now it's time to make this ground beef sloppy!. Add in an 8 ounce can of tomato sauce a 6 ounce can of tomato paste - celery ribs that I've diced up, 2 large carrots that I've diced up, and a green bell pepper that I've also diced up, 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, four cloves of crushed garlic, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1teaspoon of ground mustard and a 1/2 teaspoon of red pepper flakes. Mix this all in. Alright reduce the heat to medium-low. We're going to let this simmer for 15 to 30 minutes. If you like your vegetables to be a little crisp and have some texture to your sloppy joe then keep it towards the 15-minute side but if you like yours a little more mushy that's fine too. You'll want to stay towards the 30-minute end of that range. I'm going to cover it with a little aluminum foil to trap the heat in and help it cook a little faster.
